- doctorfungi, on 10/25/2007, -2/+95One day you'll sit down with your grandkids and say "when I was your age games were $60", as you watch them play Duke Nukem: Forever.
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/22/2007, -7/+78Sixty bucks is nuts.
- taxman, on 10/21/2007, -9/+6160$ for a game is peanuts if you consider Cost Vs Time spent on various entertainment products. A DVD costs 15~20$ and you on an averages watch it 3~4 times. Thats less than 10 hours.Compare it with amount of time spent on RPGs,Sports,Multiplayer games, then you can easily validate a 60$ purchase.
Add to that, game prices have remained stagnant over the years, thanks to more people buying them. So even though 60$ to some may seem steep, its less than a lot of other things we blow our money on. - altodarknight, on 10/22/2007, -2/+45US$60 is nothing. Here in Australia we pay AU$120, which at the current exchange rate is US$108!!!!
I would love for games to be $60! Any game I want that is region free I automatically order it online from the US, even with postage it is still around 40% cheaper. - Divals, on 10/21/2007, -1/+40This is why I wait a few months and get them used. They're only $60 if you're impatient.
- smacksaw, on 10/21/2007, -0/+38That'll teach him not to live near a Costco!
- keozen, on 10/21/2007, -4/+36We pay £40 for new titles in the UK, £35 if they're on offer. That's $80 and $70 respectively.
Think you're being ripped off? - RxDaniel, on 10/21/2007, -2/+29Wow you are getting dugg down for not living near a costco.
- greevar, on 10/20/2007, -2/+27You mean great grandchildren right?
- PiGuy, on 10/22/2007, -3/+26This is not a new thing, games have been $60 for a long time. I recall buying Mortal Kombat 3 for my Sega for $60 in 1995.
- bib4tuna, on 10/20/2007, -1/+21isnt...that what kills the pc gaming market?
- doctorfungi, on 10/27/2007, -2/+21An even better example would be a hooker.
- imikedaman, on 10/22/2007, -4/+22I'm sorry, but games like Cooking Mama, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and all the ports shouldn't be selling for $50. The Wii is a lot worse than the Xbox 360 in that regard.
What *all* the consoles should have is variable pricing, where the AAA titles sell for the full $60, the standard fare sells for $40 or $50 depending on the production values, the ports sell for $30, and the mini-game compilations can go for $20. - inactive, on 10/21/2007, -1/+18I didn't know Costco had a law school. Damn, do you buy it in bulk?
- chris9902, on 10/21/2007, -5/+22Not really. If you were to take into account inflation since the 80s when games also costed $50-$60 (even more at some points) then games would be more like $130. I think we get a VERY good deal at $60. The only thing keeping the price down is the fact more people buy games now.
- smokestack, on 10/21/2007, -1/+18yeah! take that!
I went to law school there... - RxDaniel, on 10/19/2007, -1/+17Microsoft and Sony sell their consoles at a loss already. Wii is the only system that makes a profit.
- SwissCamel, on 10/22/2007, -5/+20$60? So £30? You American's have, once again, had it easy. Back in the days of PS1, new games would cross the £40 mark. If anything here in the U.K the prices have remained stationary, if not lowered slightly.
- Snuff99, on 10/22/2007, -11/+26Part of the reason I bought a Wii. I love me some games but I ain't about payin' $60. Call me cheap but fonk that, $10-$20 saved matters to me.
- jggr, on 10/19/2007, -2/+16While I know this isn't a popular opinion, but we shouldn't be stealing from those who entertain us. If you like the game, buy it. If you don't, then why play it at all? Stealing only means that those of us who actually pay for the entertainment we like will eventual pay more to cover your theft.
- MikeD606, on 10/20/2007, -0/+13Yea and I remember super mario 3 being $65
- lordtyros, on 10/21/2007, -1/+14*****, I don't buy DVDs for that very reason.
- VoiceofPower, on 10/22/2007, -6/+18I've been paying 60 EUROS (equals 85 dollars) for games for quite a while. Some games rise up to 70 euros even.
60 dollars is nothing. Cheap even. If nothing else, consider yourselfs lucky, US citizens - silence7, on 10/19/2007, -0/+11You want to see prices, there's an upcoming story with videogame ad scans With prices........

Check the SNES games, ALL $59.99, except Final Fantasy II, $69.99
Now Complain!! - Nobi-Wan, on 10/20/2007, -0/+11Blame the idiots that buy Madden for $60 every single year.
- inactive, on 10/21/2007, -0/+10Our economy is "nicer"? Since when? I didn't get the memo.
- alvinrod, on 10/22/2007, -4/+14At the rate the American dollar is declining in value, I wouldn't be surprised if the next generation of consoles have games that cost $70 or more.
- Feener, on 10/19/2007, -1/+11His point is that game are also ridiculously priced here, they average, brand new, at about £50 so about $100. Stop complaining about things being expensive, petrol etc when they aren't. It's all dirt cheap in America. Also, don't the UK Europe.
- altodarknight, on 10/20/2007, -1/+11just under $50, 000
pretty much identical to the US - LeviticusKrain, on 10/19/2007, -0/+10Sonic & Knuckles back in the day was $60. Games in the early 90s were always 50-60 bucks. Why is this a surprise? If anything we're paying less.
- MrSteamTank, on 10/21/2007, -1/+10Because the "free" cow ends up demanding attention and commitment.
Remember you're not paying the hooker for sex. You're paying her to leave afterwards. - Disjunto, on 10/19/2007, -1/+10worse in the UK, RRP is $100 at current exchange rate, and a lot of retailers sell at that price
- brstilson, on 10/19/2007, -0/+9I remember when new Super Nintendo cartridges were $70 (that's $94.21 in today's dollars) or more.
- reed311, on 10/20/2007, -0/+9Digg is obsessed with Costco (among other things) and any perceived negativity towards it will be Dugg down.
- MiDri, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8CD/DVD are considerably cheaper then the proprietary cartridges that Nintendo and Sega sold...
- happytedium, on 10/19/2007, -2/+10$60??? We pay $110 AUD.
$60 USD = 67.11 AUD.
Cry more! - Scrappy1850, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8you can get great new PC games for $20 or $30. just check out Steam. TF2 is $30.
- smackafiyah, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7Yeah, the old gen games like SNES and Genesis used to cost around $60-$70, if you were lucky enough to own a Neo-Geo, you get a nice pirice tag of $200 per game. How time changes
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7... except on cracked servers, of course. But then again, cracked servers are usually plagued with cheaters who use their hacks without fear of punkbuster or admins.
- ReXorcist, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7Sadly this price deal only holds up in the USA, here in Canada Costco sells Halo 3 for 67.99, when even Best Buy sells for 59.99 like everywhere else. What a great deal we get...
- piratearggghhh, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7For those who don't want to pay there are alternatives: wait a few months for the price drop or rent them. For the amount of hours of entertainment it's way more worth it than watching a movie at the theaters - now that's a ripoff.
- gommle, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7In Norway, Xbox 360 games are 110 USD :P
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7Join Costco.com or use someone's membership number when ordering something online...that should work.
- inactive, on 10/20/2007, -1/+8In europ we always pay $ 64.26 for a new video game (PC Game), thats € 45,-.
But we also have € 60,- games (New consol games), Where talking about $ 85.67,- here. - inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7Umm...what the *****? Is PiGuy a game industry executive? No? Then how does he affect the price?
- CeeJayDK, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7Or on LAN games .. played over the internet on virtual LAN's
- fLUx1337, on 10/19/2007, -1/+8Yep, as many have said, 360 games range from $80-120 USD in Europe, so stop moaning. I would love to pay just $60 for a game, I would even settle for $65!
- ChildeRoland420, on 10/20/2007, -1/+7The mean income in the USA in 2005 was $35,500 and the median was under $25,000. Sorry, your comparison fails, please try again.
- MrSteamTank, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6Unfortunately, your country charges a 40% vax tax. That tax pays for those nifty U.K benefits you guys get. So although the prices are jacked up a bit the majority of it can be blamed to your overtaxed society. 8P
- GMorgan, on 10/19/2007, -1/+7Frankly, given how bad most games are, I'd pay £100 for a game like Oblivion before I'd spend a penny on most titles that ship at around £50 here in the UK. $60 is nothing though, that's the price our games used to ship at 10 years ago.
