- dombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+51So you are saying Sony is using Apple's software, but they are only using the trial version so that Apple logo stays in the final product. That would be hilarious. :-D
- thenorwegian, on 10/12/2007, -8/+55you want a ***** cookie?
- CatfishJones, on 10/12/2007, -9/+55Ah, ya. *raises hand* I have a question. Why do you insist on spaming Digg? This article has nothing to do with the comparison between or preformance of the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Wii. This article has everything to do with Apple's involvement in the development of the Playstation 3. So unless you saw Steve Jobs troubleshooting the PS3 you played on, your comments are spam.
- Aleman360, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45http://web.mac.com/mouseh/streamvideo14.swf
Apparantly that is the background video obtained when someone decompiled the Flash file. - tumult, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39Actually, wait. Look at that smoke effect in the background. That might have been made with one of Apple's tools (like Motion or Shake) and the Apple logo was in the rendered footage for some reason. That might be why it only shows up for a second, and then fades out (as a lot of Apple software does.)
- Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35I captured me using swf capture to show that is in fact the same video file.
you can view it here.
http://www.johnbiank.com/apple_sony.swf - flobee, on 10/12/2007, -14/+48It's a fake. Here's the background: http://web.mac.com/mouseh/streamvideo14.swf
- Buckets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33For a company who's all about copyrights, Sony should actually buy the software they use.
- flobee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35Actually, I'm sorry, when I said "fake" I think I meant "fluke". The SWF is real, but the Sony employee who created it was using a trial version of the software that includes that background.
- Oktober, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35Skeptical / Nintendo Answer: Some web designer just stole an effect from the Apple site!
Moderate Answer: PS3 will probably have iTunes support in some fashion
Insane Answer: PS3 will be co-branded with apple, Mac Mini will be discontinued, streets will run red with the blood of the nonbelievers - flernk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Fluke indeed. Fire that guy. Using stock video for a world-wide advertising campaign? Boo.
- CatfishJones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Credit were credit is due: Aleman360 was the first to post the .swf link above. For those just showing up... basically Sony ripped off a video from Apple and didn't remove the Apple logo completely. No need to panic. ;)
- cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33What does this have to do with anything in the article?
- rainmanbk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31What the heck is this crap? I hate Sony, but I love Apple.
- CatfishJones, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28Please let it be just an adoring fan of a Flash designer... but I'm still worried. Apple has a huge thing for keeping its plans secret as well as precedence of punishing third party partners who leak any plans. I wouldn't be too surprised if they could hide something like this for a couple more months.
Apple does have a seat on the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) Board of Directors. No, it's just a bad dream. It has to be. *click click* There's no place like home... *click click* There's no place like home... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -16/+35d8cam, your comments are irrelevant to this discussion. - Aleman360, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27Thanks goes to DOGG on ps3forums.com for discovering this.
- actionscripted, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26Good for you. Glad you got to play. If you're done bragging, pull up your pants and move along. No one here is going to suck your dick for how cool you think you are.
- vatechtigger, on 10/12/2007, -17/+32"Ask me questions if you wish."
How gay are you? - bpwwhirl, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23Nor does it have anything to do with how awesome you are and how we should stare at you in awe, for you are one of the chosen to have played the Wii.
- cam2009, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20thats actually pretty interesting. but if they were really working with apple, you would think they would either not fade their logo after half a second, or not show it at all. either a stupid flash animator adding something in, or a smart flash animator hiding something. its under the playstation 3 lettering and above the controller if you can't see it, you may need to refresh.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Took me a little bit to work this out but the logo is on the defaut.html page, not on the specs or gallery page.
Someone on PS3forums captured this image of it:
http://www.team-md.com/upload/store/ps3.jpg - afeitarse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Well, I might be in the minority here, but I dugg you down because you're an arrogant prick.
- dombi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I made a picture of it as well. It can be found here:
http://flickr.com/photos/25791144@N00/184110121/
I also played around with PhotoShop and increased the image contrast so that it is easier to see:

Quite interesting... - rileyjt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Lol, they just stole the video and didn't get the Apple logo edited all the way out
- JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14digg isn't broken. The point of digg is for the people to allow the stories (and comments) that they feel (as a democracy) are relevant. Clearly the majority of people (myself included) feel your personal experience with the PS3 have no bearing on whether or not Apple and Sony are in bed together.
It is BECAUSE most of us think your comments are irrelevant, your comments will not be shown. This is a prime example of how digg is meant to work. Go away now. - refulgentis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Well, that settles it...trial version of Shake. How ridiculous.
- thenutty1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Why won't you go away.....
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Everything about this story screams "bull," except for the phantom logo. I don't know what to think anymore. What is the hell is going on? This seems like the very last thing Apple would ever do. This flies in the face of everything we know about Apple and Sony's relationship...
...then again, there were rumors about Apple working on a game console, and they have hired employees with video game backgrounds... - PiP4LyFe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/07/wtf-apple-cameos-on-ps3-website/

We called Sony's PR and, after a few tries, they finally saw it, too. They were as surprised as we are. After finally seeing it, their response: "that's f---king funny." The PR firm is looking into it. We'll keep you posted as the story develops. - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'm not seeing the smoke on the site. Has it been removed?
- killtherat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yeah it would be kind of stupid to miss the trail version watermark, but it's Sony we''re talking about here ;-)
But that seems to be the most logical theory. Corporate alliances are announced via subliminal flash animation, they're announced by press release. Besides, the PowerPC architecture is dead to Steve Jobs (he is a man that can carry a grudge).
Of course, working with Apple would be a little plausible given last year's MacWorld when Sony's CEO came out on stage and announced a partnership between Apple and Sony for high def television, calling it the 'year of high def'.
It was a rather stilted moment where everyone wondered what products they were specifically talking about, and why hadn't the Sony CEO been more prepared to speak (of course everyone look unprepared for a speech when compared to Steve jobs) - superalamar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10would also be hard for a decent web designer to miss....
- Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm not sure if "lazy web designer rips off Apple smoke effect" qualifies as HUGE NEWS!!!!, to be honest. :)
- m00nmaster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Aren't all of your backlash comments to d8cam just as bad? Why don't you just mod him down or block him and move on? You write to him, he gets a rise out of it and digg is now full of useless comments.
- thecosas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9That is insane if its true...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7lol can you say owned? Sony is simply using a trial version of shake and the apple background rendered on it. That is hilarious
- idiggpussy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is being blown out of all proportion..
Sony, like most companies will have outsourced the website design to a company. Obviously they either didnt get paid enough or they dont care much for Sony..
Its just a school-boy error on the flash designers part. If you save & import the SWF you can see the video of the smoke with the apple logoand it is the same one as posted right at the top of these comments.
They have that layer set at 15% alpha so the logo is just visable. They should have edited the video before importing.. - SenatorPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"You'd think the company that manufactures VAIO PCs and Laptops would use... oh I don't know, it's own computers for development?"
Sony probably hired a design studio or artist. Macs are generally better and more popular in the creative professional field. Remember when the corner of an iBook with the glowing powercord was shown to represent connection speed on Microsoft's website? Same deal, except this looks like an accident. - patnakajima, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Haha, sony and apple in the same article? The comments have reached digg equilibrium.
- M15anthrope, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9that's hilarious!
- idiggpussy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'd of thought that apple wont be happy if they find out about this *****-up..
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's funny that the logo happened to land in such a nice spot on the console...
- wyfflemunky, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"Sony and Apple strategies are very similar. Offer a premium product at a premium price."
Except that Apple also works off innovation, while Sony just pretties up existing products and sells them for more. - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6here is the answer to the 'huge news' - http://web.mac.com/mouseh/streamvideo14.swf - they just used a trial version of shake.
it's nothing, move along. - patm1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4you of course mean, "Please apple... don't get into the gaming wars again," right?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Pippin - patnakajima, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I think his point is that for now, that 77% market share is accessed by the computer, not on the television. To have the iTMS in the living room means to push it not just into the lives of people who are computer literate, but also those who are basic home electronics literate. That's a much bigger market.
edit: I just wanted to add my two cents as well - I really hope this isn't true, because apple is moving up, while sony just keeps tumbling. - jdavid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7i think this is another case of sony stealing ideas from other companies, my bet is that the smoke looked really cool on an apple video that sony saw and used it as an element in their flash video. the apple logo could just be a flash watermark from the flashmovie that was borrowed.
- Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10"You'd think the company that manufactures VAIO PCs and Laptops would use... oh I don't know, it's own computers for development?"
Ah but if you ever used a Sony Vaio, you would know why they don't use them. Way overprice for being underpowered, and lots of propeitary parts - knupso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No the jokes on you. The logo is a mistake they are using a trail version of shake.

What is Digg?
