- idandfei, on 10/12/2007, -3/+53Competitor for who? Live Arcade? MSN Games? PopCap games aren't exactly going to set the world on fire.
- Diggtatorship, on 10/12/2007, -13/+39I always have to chuckle a little bit when I see Apple and games in the same sentance :)
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32With my new iBox, there's no cords, no controllers, it's just..just a box.
I love my iBox. - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Never buy your iBox used.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26I can't wait to play bejeweled in HD!
- fifty50, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17World's most expensive Bejeweled console.
Edit: damn, beaten to it - XISUPERMANIX, on 10/12/2007, -11/+7It will let you play snake and solitaire. Apple fanboys will pay up to $100 for this.
- aggrazel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27can't wait to play Oregon Trail in 1080p
- rudy23, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Dont worry. Apple will make sure its a fun enoough experience to compel people to buy.
- CatalystDM, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@idfendel - RTFA, on the FIRST line it answers your question.
- daborg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@CatalystDM: Article? You mean Digg isn't just a discussion forum? Whoa!
- axel2k1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Apple fanboys galore on digg. Which is cool - about time we had something different in the market. But seriously, this thing can't be a serious gaming machine... no matter how good your rose colored glasses.
Next rumor on Digg: Apple TV gives head! - alteratti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think this is a marketing stunt by Apple against the GoogleTV hoax.
Apple stocks soar another $50. - idandfei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@CattleSystDM I did RTFA you jackass, how do you think I knew about the PopCap deal. Why don't you RBTFL (read between the ***** lines). My post was intended to point out that they can't possibly be competitors with MSN and Live Arcade. They both have content that the Apple TV won't support. They will not include a good UI for games as Pix869 pointed out.
- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hey! That means Apple can take over for Sony once they die out.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Pippin lives!
- rlg420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ Lukas88
You already can play Bejeweled in "HD" on XBLA. You won't believe how crisp the jewels look. I mean I though I was actually moving rubies and sapphires around.
- mattyice11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44Sorry for the comment abuse, but I'm actually curious how other Diggers feel about this. Does anyone else hate the fact that Engadget, Gizmodo and Lifehacker have added "Digg This" buttons to almost every story they post? I understand the exposure a front page story brings to any site, but it's starting to make the front page look like an RSS feed for just those three sites, as most of the stories they post are now hitting the Digg front page. Those sites are popular enough as it is and are already read by most Diggers. I don't know...it's just driving down the quality on the front page, imo.
//end rant- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I wouldn't like it IF they didn't have good things to say -- however it's quite obvious that there is worthwhile stuff to be dugg coming from those sites.
- broomett, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Good things to say like endless GUESSES (without any evidence to back it up) about what Apple is goingto do?
- Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think the "digg this" feature that some sites have actually undermines the social driven character of this site. While in the former days you could find interesting articles from a variety of sites, now -it seems- an obvious bias have been passed to certain sites making Digg.com their posting boy. Regardless of how interesting some -or most- of these articles are, the loss of the variety of sources that the frontpage had in the past is evident, this can only be bad for such a great idea of outsourcing the crowd
- axel2k1, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4First, you didn't abuse the comment system. Second, why the ***** do you apologize and then go ahead and do something? It's like saying "sorry for the rape here, but, eh, gotta do it."
You people make me sick. Go ***** your mom in her ass and then kill yourself. - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4axel2k1: "Second, why the ***** do you apologize and then go ahead and do something? "
Well, if he apologized for something he -didn't- do, that wouldn't make much sense would it?
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Just never got the feeling Jobs was interested in gaming. At. All. He blew thru the whole iPod game demo like he couldn't wait to get on to the next thing, and the whole GMA950 thing in the MacBook/Mac Mini just showed he wasn't that committed. Not sure why Apple TV would be any different.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Jobs is just playing to the market. Most Mac users don't care about playing computer games either, which is why you'll hear everyone *but owners of the computer* complaining about the GMA950 in the Mac mini and MacBook.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4drlha, ironically, i own both :p But, I too, prefer consoles for gaming anyways.
- broomett, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1If Jobs is just playing to the market, explain the iPhone, which no one cares about. Explain the touch screen aspect, which all polls show that people DON'T want (except on Dgg which is not indicative of the hman population.) Explain the iPod HiFi.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3broomett, ok, you win on the iPod HiFi thing.
- McGrude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@drlha, I own a mac for work and an XBox 360 for gaming. Don't generalize and say that Mac users aren't into gaming.
Ambrosia Software made some excellent Mac games back in the day. I just don't play games on a computer any more now that I've got an Xbox 360. - axel2k1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I find it ironic that Mac users take the limitations of the platform they choose and think of it as a feature or adopt an "I don't care" attitude. If they buy into a platform that doesn't support gaming, well, they don't play games or play on a console.
It was just like the G5 being so superior to Intel's offerings. And the G4, and the G3. But now, Apple uses Intel chips. Oh, well, they had to, and the computers are GREAT.
Come on, this cognitive dissonance, the "sour grapes" phenomenon is only present because you just dropped crapload of money on a computer and need/want to defend it. - McGrude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Interesting perspective axel2k1, but in my case it is entirely incorrect. I used to play some Mac games and many PC games.
I got tired of PC gaming for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I hate sitting at my desk to play games after sitting at a desk all day at the office. Sure I could have bought a HTPC, but at the time it didn't make sense and would have cost a fair amount. So instead I opted for an original XBox.
The other reason is that I was sick of having to upgrade or replace my PC every 12 to 18 months just to play the latest games. Although my PC was great for Half Life, GTA 3/Vice City, Morrowind, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein to name a few, it would never be able to handle the likes of Doom3, GTA San Andreas, Half Life 2, or Oblivion. So I made a choice. 500 - 800 dollars to upgrade my PC or buy a console.
I bought a console and have since replaced it with an Xbox 360 and I've never looked back.
So, no, I didn't give up gaming because my Mac couldn't handle it, nor did I buy a console because my Mac couldn't handle it. I bought a console so I could sit comfortably at my couch in front of my high def television and play great games on a platform that will last for 5 years or more.

- lolsmiff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Looks a little like the Wii with that Apple Remote.
- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Maybe it will play the Ipod games from the Itunes store.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It must play the Apple Logo puzzle game... and Warcraft. And Warcraft 2... and World of Warcraft... Oh, and Warcraft 3!
- Uranium118, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Rolf, exactly what I was thinking.
- XISUPERMANIX, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3You know what I can play games on? My Microsoft Xbox 360 and it will soon have tv too.
That outta shut you fanboys up.- bmartin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Seriously, can you please file your Apple fanboy stories under Apple so I don't have them on my front page?
- rudy23, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Its gonna play games with you. Not the other way around.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2In Soviet Russia, Apple plays you?
- XISUPERMANIX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@unloud enough with the lame Soviet Russia jokes, there is a time and a place but not every ***** story deserves a Soviet Russia joke.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Um, that's the first time I have ever ever done a soviet Russia joke. It just seemed like it fit their comment. You can digg me down as much as you want, but please just calm down. It's just the internet; don't bust a hernia over it.
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@Unloud:
But the Internet is serious ***** business. - actionjackson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@xisupermanix
It may be trite (about 20 years old), but its actually more of a Yakov Smirnoff joke than a "Soviet Russia" joke, per se. What's more, I can see how rudy23's comment was an irresistable seque for this classic pun. - XISUPERMANIX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Only do that type of joke when it actually relates to Russia, and I didn't digg you down someone else did.
- Zanwar000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It'll REVOLUTIONIZE how you play Tetris.
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And then after it has an eager following, it'll change it's name so that it's awkward to talk about with friends for awhile and creepy to ask store employees about.
- cruffenach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey, hey, hey. Let's just all take a deep breath and look at this from a functionality stand point. If Apple were to release small games that could be played through the Apple TV that would be great. They would be cheap, they would work well and they would be fun. Plus it would allow for all of this stuff to be shown in full HD res via HDMI. They aren't looking to take on Gears of War here, all they want to do is make some fun party games. I don't know why everyone is being all negative, I mean looking back 6 years Apple has a pretty stellar product release record, and if they want to develop some small low cost fun games to play on their new little Apple TV. Why not?
- hellotyler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just because a game doesn't have high specs doesn't mean it can't be really fun. I could see some small fun games.
- idandfei, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Edit: Sorry, meant to reply.
- raisputin2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Just because the AppleTV doesn't have a good game controller with it doesn't mean it cannot play games. IIRC the controller for the XBox 360 has a USB connector as does the PS3, so there is nothing to preclude a gaming experience from the AppleTV by merely using a XBox360 or PS3 controller or some other USB controller that Apple may be building.
- sonofalink, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"What we really want to know, though, is how they plan to get us to game with the impossibly minimal Apple remote bundled with the Apple TV."
They won't. Apple TV won't play games. - dcfox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Maybe they could do something along the lines of Scene It? with the video content on the apple tv.
- Zero2aHero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2and they'll want you to use the apple remote to play them....
- sarwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm very excited about the Apple TV, including the possibility that it will play games. I think they could become a real challenge to the 360 & PS3, especially at that price point. I hope they aren't delayed!
