- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -16/+130As an owner of an iphone, no. Just no.
- anaxa, on 12/13/2008, -17/+72Sure it's a gaming console...if Memory & Tic-Tac-Toe are your kind of games.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -14/+69Then its the ***** games console out there.
MY old piece of ***** nokia could play tetris too, that doesn't make a games console. - inactive, on 12/13/2008, -9/+55While I'm sure some folks are excited about this, I honestly can't remember the last time I played a game on my phone. A web browser is the only time killing feature I need.
- sylv3r, on 12/13/2008, -3/+46you seem to be forgetting about the price stand point, fanboy
- doshindude, on 12/13/2008, -14/+55It is NOT and will never be a gaming console. It was built to be a phone. Apple is retarded to think that since the iphone can play small flash-like games on it, it's considered a gaming console. bull. *****.
- teh_spazz, on 12/13/2008, -17/+55AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
There are no BUTTONS. You can only MOVE the phone or push something with no feedback. Silly Apple. - inactive, on 12/13/2008, -5/+35"The iPhone has better technology behind it than Sony's and Nintendo's offerings"
No it doesn't. The iphone's processor is only ~100 mhz faster than ONE of PSPs. PSP has 2, 333 MHz processors, plus 2 GPUs and another sound chip. Plus iphone has to run an OS.
"it has a superior software delivery model"
PSP has the exact same delivery model. It has a built in store as well
"in the short period it has been released it has already more games that are better in gameplay and innovation."
No it hasn't. NONE of iphone's games come close to PSP's, and using a touchscreen doesn't magically = innovative. Even the DS wasn't innovative cause of that, we had the Tapwave Zodiac before that - Po0py, on 12/13/2008, -2/+31Read: Apple has a marketing department.
- Frozo, on 12/13/2008, -5/+25Nintendo DS killer.... BWAHAHAHA!!
- dirtyhipster, on 12/13/2008, -1/+21Last time I checked, taking picture's wasn't an OSX feature, it was a camera feature...
- Daniel591992, on 12/13/2008, -3/+21Not to mention that it's a bit underpowered.
- Sabre24q7, on 12/13/2008, -13/+31Don't go where you don't belong Apple.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -2/+16They're claiming the iPhone is a "games console", so it would be more accurate to compare the iPhone to the PSP and DS lite in this regard, not a regular old cell phone.
The iPhone sucks balls compared to the PSP and DS lite for gaming. - TotalHalibut, on 12/13/2008, -2/+16Shame it doesn't have the calibre of games the Dreamcast did.
- ElBoss, on 12/13/2008, -3/+17Maybe they should try to make the mac a decent games platform first
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -1/+141. Bad price point.
2. Poor input controls. (touchscreen, although technically impressive, is not the way to go for most games), iphone tilt control is limited
3. Need to pay a monthly bill to own one.(Thats all the kids out of the picture).
4. Lack of real quality games. - Rain12913, on 12/13/2008, -3/+15See above post for proof that iPhone should stick to games like Memory and Tic-Tac-Toe...
- TotalHalibut, on 12/13/2008, -11/+22I suppose it's astonishing for casual gamers. Kinda like the Wii.
- tombbox, on 12/13/2008, -12/+23Personally, many games for the iPhone have astounded me. Many that properly utilize the multi-touch system are simple and extremely entertaining. Occasionally I find myself wishing console games utilized a similar method of interaction.
- bobdob, on 12/13/2008, -6/+17It is a gming console the same way a Mac is a gaming PC.
- TotalHalibut, on 12/13/2008, -2/+13Not even close. There are plenty of killer apps for both the PSP and DS. What's the Iphone got?
- BinaryFragger, on 12/13/2008, -0/+10Nintendo has managed to survive despite fierce competition from Sony, Microsoft and Sega. Apple won't be taking Nintendo down anytime soon.
- tonicboy, on 12/13/2008, -0/+10What? My PSP does something other than play games? Damn, I wish someone had told me sooner that my gaming experience was being convoluted on the PSP; I would have written an angry letter to someone, I'm sure.
- djpray2k, on 12/13/2008, -8/+18No buttons no sale.
- gllopc, on 12/13/2008, -1/+11@alanr19: I don't know if ball suckage is in full effect, but I would agree that it's not in the same league as PSP and the DS.
If anything, it's the cutting edge of cellphone gaming. - UKsHaDoW, on 12/13/2008, -5/+15@Tahiri
No it doesn't.

They are capable of 2 speeds, but not 2 cpu's.
The GPU of a iPhone is a powerVR with 3d accleration.
The iphone has a good gpu, and a good cpu. Its hardware is pretty impressive for something mobile. - newstart, on 12/13/2008, -2/+11Who said you have to be ashamed, fanboy?
- Jeepinator, on 12/13/2008, -0/+9iPod Touch 2nd Gen owner seconds this. The 2nd gen touch is the fastest thing out there atm and it still isn't amazing for games. It does simple puzzle games well, but games that require buttons are no good, simply because you don't get any feedback on what you are touching in terms of buttons.
- championchap, on 12/13/2008, -2/+10"flash-like"
As in like a Flash Game.
Not an actual Flash Game. - DelMonte, on 12/13/2008, -1/+9GarryBarker is a Troll, don't feed him...
- u8myfoood, on 12/13/2008, -1/+9Wait so my Ti-83+ and Ti-89 are both gaming consoles too?
Phoenix and tetris for Ti-83+ FTW! (and you can actually play with REAL buttons) - dustinl4m3, on 12/13/2008, -0/+8Fieldrunners!
- phamuraix, on 12/13/2008, -7/+14Apple freaks are hilarious.
- kezia1, on 12/13/2008, -1/+8Is there any Wario Ware-style game for Iphone yet? I think that would actually translate pretty well to the Iphone.
- Sabre24q7, on 12/13/2008, -1/+8It makes me stronger.
- Billions, on 12/13/2008, -0/+7Why so serious around here? Who minds if another platform can play games? A small convenient form-factor that's also your phone? I certainly carry my iPhone a lot more than I ever carry my DS or my PSP.
Shame that many of you have already decided you can't play games on the iPhone/Touch platform... Because you're missing out on some of the better mobile games I've played lately, with the convenience of leaving both my PSP and DS at home collecting dust. I can't be bothered to carry them anymore. I'd suggest FieldRunners, Jelly Car, Trace, Scrabble, a jillion Soduko games, several driving games... even that Soccer game is playable if you give it a chance.
I just see a lot of hateboys posting. Again, I ask - why do you mind if another platform can play games? You can still have your DS or your PSP bulging in your pockets. - yacinebouatrous, on 12/13/2008, -3/+10well... Apple claims a lot of things, so no big surprise there
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -2/+9In its ***** dreams it is.
[INSERT COMPLETE ***** STATEMENT ].......according to a story on Digg.
lol dude seriously you get your facts from Digg submissions? - Zap2, on 12/13/2008, -0/+7No one can kill Nintendo
(Other then maybe Nintendo) - inactive, on 12/13/2008, -3/+10"They are capable of 2 speeds, but not 2 cpu's. "
They are capable of many more than 2 speeds. Everything between 33 and 333 in increments of 33 MHz. There are indeed 2 processors. I am a PSP developer.

This is the line that sets the clock frequency (as should be evident from the function name). You may be wondering why there are three parameters, though. I mean, there's only one processor, right? Wrong. The PSP actually has three processors.

I've corrected wikipedia many times. Don't ever use it as your main source again - crashingechelon, on 12/13/2008, -0/+7That'd probably be the only iPhone game I would need if they made one.
- samiam0007, on 12/13/2008, -5/+12Apple also claims they make computers too...
psaw.... Computers..... - twig978, on 12/13/2008, -2/+9Its like saying the PSP is a full blown MP3 player.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -1/+7its like saying a cell phone is like a psp.
- championchap, on 12/13/2008, -1/+7The App Store actually has some pretty impressive games
and some pretty fun games too!
It's just about a new interface.. touch screen games have never been mass produced in a way that makes the touch screen a MUST USE feature. - Khast, on 12/13/2008, -3/+9Apple N-Gage 3.0?
C'mon, Nokia proved that the phone isn't exactly the most ideal place for a gaming console....for a few obvious reasons.
Granted the iPhone is more powerful than the N-Gage was...I only count a few buttons, including the touch screen...wow, that will make for some awesome gaming, if you like simple games, or games heavily dependent on a touch screen. - inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+6And nobody can even make a frame to snap the phone into that would provide buttons, because Apple idiotically prevents developers from using the USB port. This glaring problem means that the iPhone / Touch can't be a legitimate "gaming platform". There's only so much you can do with accelerometers, and there's not enough screen space to put a decent number of buttons on it while showing gameplay.
- Totz83, on 12/13/2008, -5/+11It also works well as a paperweight
