Another Benefit of Registering Your Wii
play-nintendo.com — All of us who've registered our Wiis are getting our VC games automatically registered on MyNintendo.com. And if the past is any indication, those of us burning through Virtual Console points may be getting a surprise gift in the mail as our collections grow.

- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8oh wow... yah I just checked my account and they DO automatically register VC games.
Well thats cool... But one would think they could also automatically register normal Wii games as well, because frankly I dont like having to key in those codes (course I do it anyway because of the benifits possible).
Meh, dono how likely it is, but I sure hope that we get something free eventually... heck I'd be happy with some kindof "get x amount of bonus points for every game you buy." or whatever... lol just a little something extra to make VC games more fun to get. heh- jrathert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing about them registering your actual Wii games. I guess it's not as easy since you could rent them or play them first on a friend's console, but still, it'd definitely be nice.
And yeah, I'm not gonna hold my breath on getting something free, but it definitely would be nice. Japan and Europe's systems are far superior to ours - they get actual points to put toward things, and apparently Europe can use the points as VC points. I really wish NOA would get their act together and make it to where we could have the same type of service. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"But one would think they could also automatically register normal Wii games as well, because frankly I dont like having to key in those codes (course I do it anyway because of the benifits possible)."
That doesn't work for two reasons. One, the key can't be embedded into the CD without each CD being slightly different (not going to happen with mass production). Two (as stated above, sorry, didn't catch it before I posted), it would allow any game you ever played on your Wii to be 'registered', including games you rented or borrowed from friends.
VC games work because they're DRM'd to your machine, so Nintendo knows they're yours and you paid for them. - bwishey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Adding to our subscription to Nintendo Power is all well and good (3 games = 3 magazines), but yeah, something else would be nice :)
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, Every game you buy new you get a few hundred points for the game store.
This would reward buying new games, and make buying used games for the typical narrow margins less attractive, as the points are probably already used up. I am surprised nintendo isn't already doing this, As we all know used games net nintendo absolutely zero profit, (or lost profits if you look at the possibility of a lost sale) but game stores make a huge margin on it.
It would be great if every three games you buy you get a free virtual console game. It's not like it costs nintendo anything to give away the file. - zeldafan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry for the comment spam, but if you link your MyNintendo account with your Wii, it'll register the games without having to register your Wii.

- deathhand, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Man I wish I got points for buying games on the 360 marketplace.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5Nintendo had us fill fill out a survey about how we feel about the controller, graphics, games, etc. I hope they publish the results, but they probably won't, unless they're glowingly positive (mine weren't, there's some things i don't like about it)
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4I did the same survey-- I'm really hoping they look at some of the Wii's failings. Such as lack of a DVD player, and the slow roll-out of features and VC games.
- opnickc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10". . . Wii's failings. Such as lack of a DVD player. . . "
Who the hell doesn't already have more DVD players than TVs? I guess it would've made a nice bullet point, but why on earth is the lack of DVD playback a 'failing'?
My only complaint with the Wii is a lack of online titles at launch. C'mon, Nintendo, I want to headshot some nubs with the Wii remote! ;)
- internetcoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How do I get my VC games registered. I have five and I registered my WII. They don't show up on there.
- CaptainEO, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Make sure your Wii is connected to the internet and linked to your account on nintendo.com. I think when I was going through the initial setup when I bought my console, it asked me if I would like them linked, and I put in my username/password.
- ZennZero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ditto. I suspect that you have to have to register on both the console and on the site. In the Wii shop channel's options page, there is a way to link to an preexisting my.nintendo.com account.
- mankyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've bought three. Two of them appear on the page (bought within the past 2 or 3 weeks.) The first one I bought does not (bought maybe 4 weeks ago?) Perhaps this is a feature they recently turned on.
- TheBlackNinja, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Damn, I really need to get a wii lan adapter or wireless internet connection soon! I got 2000 points that I can't even use now!
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1You mean they are gracious enough to actually keep a record of what you bought? Seems like PS3 is the only d/l service doing it right - keeping track of what you bought and allowing you do d/l everything you buy 5 times, even if it's onto another PS3.
- Orlex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+121. Nintendo does keep a record, you can redownload anything onto your console.
2. Letting you download to other consoles isn't always a good idea, because then only 1 in 5 people have to get anything.
3. There aren't even 5 Ps3's in existance, they missed their launch number - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"keeping track of what you bought and allowing you do d/l everything you buy 5 times, even if it's onto another PS3."
So let me get this straight - you can go to your friend's house, log on to their PS3 temporarily, re-download something you've bought from home, leave, and the item will still be available to your friend? I have a *real* hard time believing that.
- Orlex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+121. Nintendo does keep a record, you can redownload anything onto your console.
- skoles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wish they would roll out more games I'd want to play. I've only downloaded SM64 because the other ones feel like they're just tossed in (minus Ecco and Sonic). They really should've opened the gates with a collection of the staples from each system cause I'd love to play me some Earthworm Jim, VectorMan, GreenDog, Super Mario World, Castlevania and the ilk.
They're really dragging their ass w/the online stuff too. I'm so itching to play w/all the stuff but it's not ready yet.- billvasser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think I remember reading somewhere that they're trying to stretch out the old hits until they hit a dry period in producing new Wii games. That doesn't make me very happy because that means I'll have to wait years and years before I can have all of the great games I've been waiting to see on my Wii.
Where are my Final Fantasies, Chrono Trigger and Link to the Past? It's true that you can play them on emulation, but I want them back on the TV where they belong.

WTF? Rame!- Fatality, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I found that out when I bought my DS :(
The rest of the world is stuck with sub-standard sites that only promote the latest Pikachu games. - armo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah maybe nintendo-europe will get their act together at some point. just registered and there doesn't seem a lot there :(

- raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I wish Apple would take this idea to heart with iTunes.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1They do.
- armo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1oops
- Willeth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Nintendo Europe have a similar system. If you link your Wii to your account on nintendo.co.uk, any VC games you've bought will show up in your list. Not only that, but you can get Stars for them, which are a form of credit they've had since the Cube - 500 stars for a console and 250 for a game, with 20 added every time you log on to the site and 200 for completing surveys. You can then redeem them for stuff on the site - sort of like Club Nintendo but with worse products. At some point in the future Nintendo are claiming we'll be able to redeem them for Wii points, too. Here's hoping it's a 1:1 ratio.
If so, that'd mean you could buy two Wii games and get a NES VC game free. And the Stars you'd get for buying that game could also be converted into points, perptuating the cycle and being a huge money-spinner for Nintendo. - DonArmageddon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1^ That's a huge problem I have with Nintendo.com's registration system, in that every other region (like Nintendo VIP in Europe) has much better rewards.
I'll be going on a big rant on it in the next week's show. Be sure to catch it at www.play-nintendo.com/podcast - ZNemesis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To the Americans and the Europeans complaining that the other has something better:
At least you guys get something. Down here in Australia we get nothing. No rewards, no Club Nintendo-esque account. Nothing.
