- drvelocity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Jawdropping stuff. I think Nintendo is going to be just fine with their new hardware.
- trollenlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23What I meant was: I've grown tired of FPS games. They are all "so alike" in a way. I've played literally thousands of hours worth a few combined. I've never really liked car games. There aren't too many adventure games (at least for PC/Windows platform). Simulators take so much time... MMORPGs I'm still into, but that has been for the last 2 years the only thing that has interested me.
Those games I see on DS Lite and that are coming for Wii.. They look refreshing to me. Actually fun. - WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Resident evil 4

- jonathanex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13matija - The Wii version will be widescreen, so you're probably right about it being Gamecube.
- mxpxpx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11i never got into zelda but this hype is getting me excited for it
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Good to see the inner gamer in more people awaken due to the Wii, even though you're being digged down for mistaking this for a computer game. =P
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I think there were plenty of amazing titles for the cube. at least 10 classics IMO.
- Toloran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8'and call of duty 2 doesn't have good landscapes? It has wonderful landscapes.
You can't tell how much fun a game is from screen shots.
Wouldn't you rather have a nice, hi-resolution, crystal clear photo of a beautiful sunset, than one that was taken off of, say, a camera phone""
Hi-rez =! beautiful. I would much rather a professionally done photo done on a camera phone then a high rez one done by an amature. Better tools do not always equate to better results.
First Point: Style
The graphics weren't intended to be photo realistic. The graphics were chosen (in the case of the stylized look and judicious amounts of light bloom) to convey a sense of surrealism. Remember, this is a FANTASY world, not a rendition of a real one. Yes, Call of Duty 2 has great graphics and it adds to the feel of the game (trying to get the player into the reality of WW2). LoZ:TP takes place in a fantasy world where one is playing as a hero to save the world/princess/etc and photo-realistic graphics would take away from that. In addition, if they switched the graphics style to photo-realistic, it wouldn't feel like a zelda game anymore.
Second Point: Graphics vs Hardware
The screen shots on the linked page are of a gamecube/wii game. So, be definition, the upper limit of the graphics quality will be less then on (for example) and XBox 360. Which would you prefer? A lower graphics detail but stylized look or a photo-realistic one that is super laggy because the system cannot handle it properly?
Second half of this point: Storage space. The higher the graphics level = the more space it takes to store it. CoD2 has a very high graphics level so it had to sacrifice its single player length to allow for it. Because of this, most of the game is just multiplayer (which doesn't take much). Zelda doesn't HAVE a multiplayer, because of this it has to focus on single player content. By not doing photo-realistic (or near that), it takes up FAR less space on the disk, which allows for more content. This point is more minor in modern gaming systems because of the copious amounts of storage space, but it is still an issue. - Mousse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@WeeklyGeek
How could you forget Super Smash Bros. Melee? - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Holy crap. This is what good graphics should mean. Not ever higher resolutions, better textures, or more special effects. What matters most is that it looks good and this is way more beautiful than anything I've seen on the other consoles.
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Eternal Darkness
Star Wars: Rogue Squardon
and call me crazy, but Super Mario Sunshine - prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8man... i don't see how you can use the term "underpowered" for those screenshots.
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Damn, and I thought Resident Evil 4 looked good.
- jonathanex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Same game, same release date.
Wii version has new controls and 16:9. - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. Best. MULTIPLAYER. EVER. And in a style that has yet to be replicated on any non-Nintendo system. Actually it went Player's Choice ($20) about a week ago.
- sfackler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes
- TekeeTakShak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yep, same date. I'd personally get the Wii version if I got the Wii.
- MFoody, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5See this is a perfect example of diminishing returns on graphics. Your criticism is based on THE FLOP OF A HAT. Anyone who wants too spend a couple hundred extra dollars that can flop a hat properly and have sweat fall off characters realistically has plenty of choices. People that are willing to give up on expertly flopped hats in exchange for a more immerse way of interacting with the game can save some money and buy a Wii.
- ptbw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5se1zure. You don't have to justify the purchase of your expensive xbox360. There aren't really many good games out yet, and I'm sure there will be, but basing a game on graphics alone is a silly thing to do. You must really hate tetris and mario brothers if you judge your games on how pretty it looks.
anyways, I think the graphics look sick because of the amount of creativity that goes into making a pure fantasy world. (go ahead and bring up Oblivion, thats a pretty game too) I checked out some gameplay footage, and it looks incredibly fun. - jonathanex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Many of these are from EGM, but these are direct feed and not scans.
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the blog still has them, but not the original site.. this is one of those rare cases where linking to the blog is better than linking to the original story
- tommarley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Check out the video of Zelda music composer Konji Kondo rocking the Wii Music Orchestrator at E3 this year: http://digg.com/gaming/Video_of_Zelda_composer_conducting_game_orchestra_using_the_Wiimote
- abiding99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There might be one new one in that mix... I'll digg it anyway because I'm eagerly waiting Twilight.
- LoveDove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4rushing the game?
Do you know how long this game has been in development?
The game looks very good for what the Gamecube is capable of. - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I might have exaggerated a bit, but I honestly like how Twilight Princess looks more than those very dark colored shooters. Of course this is largely a matter of taste. The technology on those games is more advanced, but I don't think that's what matters.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think you understand what people are saying here. Most of the statements are:
1. The graphics are impressive for a Gamecube game.
2. The game looks good.
Sure the Xbox 360 has more advanced hardware, but does that guarantee the games are superior in the visuals department? A lot of people, like you apparently, seem to think what matters most in the games appearance is how cutting edge the technology used to create the graphics is. I and a growing amount of people disagree and think it should be more about how good the game looks. There is a difference, I care more about how beautiful the landscape looks, than how sharp the textures are or whatever. - Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this just shows how powerful the little lunchbox really is...it's too bad this is most likely the last cube title to be released
- Pitfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Skies of Arcadia Legends

F-Zero GX - matthall28, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4drooling all over my laptop...
- Kazrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have to say, this just shows what good game design and good graphic design can do. I've seen a lot of next-gen stuff by now, and these screenshots from what is apparently the GameCube version totally slay most of the next-gen stuff I've seen graphically.
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The shots that are glowing simulate a new "Twilight Zone" environment. It's not an effect, it's the level.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Note that the images are scaled down, so they look better than they really are. But, I'd expect it to look that good on the Wii, if not better.
Older screens, but it will look more like this on GameCube:

Also, kudos to the OP. Your blog gets to content immediately and only has one ad block, rather than the four or five we usually see from others on Digg. - FutureSandwhich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"THESE ARE ALL CUTSCENES!
There are no onscreen options, like the health meter and whatnot.
They arent screenshots.... The camera follows from behind smarts, not from the side not from the front. Havent you seen the video of link riding the hores, it isn't from that angle. These are either cgi cutscenes, or polished rendered images... but most certainly not in game images.
Thats right, so even the cgi cutscenes and prerendered images have bad graphics."
It's something called consumer image, they don't want to clutter the screen with crap, they want to get the full potential of the image. For example, those Rainbow Six images, do they all have health bars and ammo gauges? No, then how do you presume their all ingame or not?
Considering the camera angles, lots of games have a free camera style, look at kingdom hearts, you can adjust the camera so that it's even in front of the the Characters (OH MY GOD WITCHERY), you can do the same thing in Shadow of the Colossus or Fable. It's an important aspect in many 3-D adventure games. Seriously have you ever used a camera? Think of using different angles to bring out different styles of imagery? Thats the exact same thing they are doing here. - DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5What's with all the game developers liberally using glow/bloom shaders all over the place. It makes it look like you're playing with cataracts. It's the 21st century lens flare.
- Determination, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4IDK, I AM ERROR was pretty hot.
- jonathanex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If his hat flopped down, his tunic would aswell and I don't think we want to see under that...
They've probably got a bit of metal in them. - joesmosax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fantastic.....can't wait. Incredible graphics for game cube. Should be a fantastic game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hooray! Error establishing a database connection
- zacharychaos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2really? I was playing Shadow just today and was thinking "I wish this was more like Zelda"
- toxicgonzo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Twilight Princess puts "next gen gaming" to shame. They're using a Gamecube and outputting better looking graphics than many of the games on next gen consoles. Way to go Nintendo
- jonathanex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're still on the britishgaming.co.uk server (sometimes slows down, I have a habit of killing it), but a duggmirror is up: http://www.duggmirror.com/gaming/Amazing_new_Zelda_Twilight_Princess_Screenshots/
- LoveDove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The developers said that they wanted to use the bloom effects for the twilight realm. It used to be black and white and now it's a world with a greenish-yellowish haze.
- ssj27gohan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dug. This is going to be awesome. Though I don't care if they downgrade the graphics a lot at this point, I just want to play the game.
