You hop while turning around corners, if you do it right, you will skid. With each skid, the smoke coming out of your tailpipe will add a letter, spelling "V-R-O-O-M". If you can spell VROOM without missing a beat, you get a speed boost and noob opponent will yell "cheater" and throw their controler in disgust because they will never be able to beat you once you get good at it.
I can't believe I just pulled that info out of my ass. - EliGottlieb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm really surprised at the comments I'm reading? Diddy Kong Racing, too hard? Where in hell did anyone get that impression? Once you figure out how to steer properly and release the accelerator on boosts it's dead easy! I beat Wizpig on my 3rd try!
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Been on this site before. Never realised the amazing videos though. Very good!

Yes, because it is so mature and adult to choose your games and consoles based on whether or not they have ***** and blood and heavy metal, rather than whether the games are actually fun.
You're probably one of those people who would choose to see a Steven Seagal flick over a good Pixar movie wouldn't you? - sinfony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0None of these shortcuts took that much time to master back in the day. Once you know where the are, the execution isn't too difficult to master, although some of them could be pretty much a crapshoot.
- LtCarter47, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1what is that sliding thing he's using all the time?
- conto1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How do they always start off with mushrooms?
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Didn't know there were so many exploitable map glitches. I wonder how much time people spent learning these things.
- Wogna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Years lol
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@conto:
In time trial you start with three - brianmuse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0skidding...if you do it right it can give you a boost
- peorth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a must-learn if you want to succedd in all Mario Kart games :D
- AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They need to get to work on the mario kart ds vids.

Wow. - medieval, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does anyone know if the revolution will allow for online play of n64 games? that would be great for reviving some old high school kart rivalries...
- galfridus73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty impressive. Even though I've won over half of my online Mario Kart DS races, these videos show me I have a lot to learn.
- achoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pxtl
Wow, I was going to mention how difficult Diddy Kong Racing was, but I figured it would have been too obscure a reference. That game really was challenging! Thanks for the memories man! - Pxtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ achoi
I found Mario Kart Advance to be a pleasant midrange difficulty - harder than the 64 version, not as impossibly nasty as Diddy Kong Racing. - thi3f, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow!
I'm not even amazed with the videos. There's always someone that takes a game to the next level.
I'm amazed with Eschatonik's comment, because I never knew about the spelling V-R-O-O-M thing haha. - achoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mario kart 64 was by far the easiest of the mario kart series. MK Doubledash was almost as easy. Super mario kart for the SNES was the most challenging version. Mario Kart DS is like a combination of MK64, MKDD and Super Mario Kart - by far the most fun.
- rebz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0on that note, anyone got the coral link for this?
- 1337geek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh hell i used to this this stuff with friends, man we came up with all kinds of different ways to play that game. nothing new here.
- artemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what is that sliding thing he's using all the time?
It's called powersliding. Technically, you do it when you go around corners. When you do it on a straightaway it's called snaking. A lot of Mario Kart gamers think it is cheap because it nullifies the use of items. In a game where cheating is encouraged over good skills, this is discouraging, because it creates an imbalance in the system. - Quintessence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How was Diddy Kong Racing hard. For the most part it was fairly easy. The only one I had trouble with was the Dragon Boss. I was not good at flying, lol. Wizpig was relatively easy.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You should see the time attack videos at
http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/
especially the mario64 one, plus if you own the rom i would load it with the Mupen64 emulator and watch it through that. - DaveyDeadite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how bout they post some double dash videos?
- Pxtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ achoi
Diddy Kong Racing was the moment I realised I hated Rare. - CammyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha, I love that Wario Stadium shortcut
- mephitix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wario Stadium shortcut is crazy... DK's Jungle Parkway Shortcut is a bit more inventive... are these really shortcuts that development knew about? Or are they just glitches in the game itself?
- eaasness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My only question is were these done on emulators? If so the game play can be slowed down to make pulling off these amazing times easier.
- RMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Brings back some memories, that game still kicks ass.
- Twelve-60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holy crap thats awsome, rofl
- EpsilonPi118, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love Mario Cart!!! Yes these people have no lives, but they did impress me with their skills...
- achoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's been several years since I've last played Diddy Kong, but my memories of that game involve racing that last Clock dude (I totally forgot his name). I've unlocked him, but I distinctly remember that he was rather difficult i.e. took me a couple of tries to beat per race. Of course, I just looked him up at gamefaqs, so his name is T.T and found out therre was some kind of tap glitch? Too bad I don't have an n64 anymore to try some of these tricks out. The difficulty of mario kart was pretty much a joke compared to diddy kong (although MKDS is distinctly more difficult than it's predecessors, but it wasn't necessarily hard unlocking R.O.B.). And now that I'm off work, I took a look at some of those videos. Some of the snes time attack videos are pretty good too. I really like that mario circuit 1 video, he's corners are real tight.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0eh i used to rock that game.. and i knew the luigi shortcut
it is harder than it looks. and yeah people who couldnt boost hated playing me.
and they are using a gameshark but i think only for the shrooms - Aeplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People actually get paid to test video games, so it isn't surprising that people get this good. I remember working approximately 80 hours per week for several months, and the QA team pretty much kicked ass on the games we tested.
8 * 5 regular workday hours + 4 * 5 over time during standard work days + 8 * 2 weekend hours = 76 hours / week for months on a single title. - OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy crap...... the DK Jungle and Wario Stadium videos are insane!
Less than :20 for the whole race, lol! - rhyno2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Forget Mario Cart...
The Super Mario 64 video is truly amazing, especially beginning with the first "Big Star" level. How many *hundreds* of hours were spent perfecting this? Boggles the mind... - KyleGoetz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ artemus: You are only cheating if you break the rules. In a video game, you cannot break the rules as they are hard-coded in. It's like complaining that en passent in chess is cheating because it makes capturing pawns more difficult.
- KyleGoetz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ everyone who didn't know about the VROOM thing: read your manual next time you buy a game.
- colelt1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The VROOM thing isn't on Mario kart 64.
I remember how to skid on my N64, I could get up to 2-3 boost on some long turns.
Say you are coming up on a left hand turn, you turn left, hit (and hold) the shoulder (R) pad button and it makes you hop, now you are skidding pointing left, but you will go to far right, so you press left and may have to correct it by going from middle to left, you will keep your speed through the turn, after the turn you let go of the (R) button and continue. Practice this skidding for a while, when you are good at it, you can then build up boost. If you hold a direction for too long while skidding you will spin out just like running over a banana (also just FYI, if you hit a banana, don't press anything except tap your brake, just 1 tap, and you wont spin out).
To build boost, come up on a long turn, say a left hand turn, turn left, hit (R) and hold and hold the joystick to the right to continue your slide, then move the joystick to left then back to right quickly, if you hold left for any amount of time you are going to turn left very sharp and skid off the track, you will notice your smoke went from white to yellow, repeat, go left then back right, smoke turns darker, repeat, smoke turns red... red = ready for boost, when you let go of your (R) button you will get a boost.
I never saw "VROOM" on my N64... it may of been on another mariokart game. - PatBert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I suggest you guys check out this site:
www.mariokart64.com
This will anwser some more questions. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is no VROOM in mk64.
I know because I spent 3 years at university playing it every day.
The only method of boost is via the power slide, where you slide in one direction than tap the analog in the opposite direction then back. This changes the smoke colour from white to yellow to red, and then you get a boost.
Vroom bollocks. - ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do teh DS retro tracks have the same shortcuts?
- Dwebtron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this is lame, i did this all the time in 4th grade when this game was new
- agiletech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah, people that have way too much time on their hands. Guess if you play your cards right it might produce 15 minutes of fame (or less).
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0is this really worthy of the main page?
geez, i could post a video of a guy beating half-life in 45 minutes, or super mario brothers in 5 minutes... Sure they're impressive, but hardly news, or even new for that matter.
