- BowcrossX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Good lineup...but I really just want Super Mario RPG
- Rockmaninoff, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Super Smash Bros. 64 please.
- Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5Quest 64 please! I have a memory card this time!
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4props for finally getting metroid out, but super metroid is the one i want...
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13am I missing something? some of those games are dated(for release mind you) for 2006. Isn't that, well, impossible?
- macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Accept American Express please.
- gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9Why can't Nintendo just release a pack of games for a good price of maybe 19.99?
Current prices are a rip off
It doesn't cost them a dime to 'produce' these games and would sell a lot more if they offered them anywhere from $0.99 - 2.99 - aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15How about some N64 games?
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I demand Kirby titles! >:O
- TomFrost, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3ok, wait.
Line Rider?
Yeah, yeah, I remember it being announced that it would be released for certain platforms.. but actually seeing it on this list is just insane. However cool it may be, it's a flash-based software physics demo. - HOTM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@zippo
Did you miss "Kirby's Adventure"? - docdoak, on 10/12/2007, -19/+4NINTENDO: YOUR VIRTUAL CONSOLE PRICES ARE A RIPOFF. PLEASE FIX THIS. I HOPE FOR SOME REASON YOU READ ALL CAPS BETTER THAN MIXED!
- JohnH, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Okay, here's my question: why?
What is really that great about Mario RPG? Is it because it's like a lost 16-bit Square RPG, with a cameo from Final Fantasy built in? That is what I have come to suspect about some folk's admiring of it.
In my mind, Paper Mario is a superior game because its combat takes actual skill; attempting to fight all enemies using the same tactics (the infamous "tap X to win" phenomenon) will result in failure. And it has a better sense of humor (which, let's face it, a Mario role-playing game had better have or it'll fail).
I'm not asking this in an attempt to cut you down, I'm really curious. - elisabethjw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ John:
There's just something amazing about Super Mario RPG, especially for people (like me) who aren't heavy into RPGs or gaming. I couldn't tell you if the gameplay or graphics are technically "good" because I don't play other RPGs but I adore the game. - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's screens of all the January VC titles:
http://wiinintendo.net/2007/01/13/january-07-virtual-console-lineup/ - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Duck Hunt is the only NES rom that cannot be properly emulated, due to the lack of the Zapper. Even for those who primarly use roms and emulators, this might make a worthwhile purchase.
- waffledad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you can put them on SD card AND if you delete them, you can still download them again for free, this is the reason for the Wii console unique number.
Once you put them on the SD card, you can delete it off the Wii and then re load it later if you wish. - JustinPM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Elranzer
I'm pretty sure that Gyromite and Stack-up probably would have hardware emulation problems. That and not too many have R.O.B. hanging around these days. - TheTjalian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@gxcdesign
Server Fees, which include Bandwith and Space, Liscencing Fees and Manual Labour Fees for writing and maintaining these emulators all come into the total cost. - al3x24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@gxcdesign
I said the same thing about the prices for the virtual console prices but Nintendo is working hard to give us all free online play. I just hope that Nintendo lets us communicate with everyone I'm playing the game with and not just my friends.
- VGLegends, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Super Metroid please
- ShadowMarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Second! Was about to say the same. It's confirmed, but TBA 2007 is the only date...
- ErifNeerg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1ill only second/3rd it if you can save rather that password system. Honestly, with the way nintendo has been treating these games as just emulators/ports, i doubt it.
I'd been nice to have more then 3 slots to save... but Zelda:TP doesn't even have that... - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"ill only second/3rd it if you can save rather that password system."
What the hell are you talking about? Super Metroid *did* have a save system - with three slots. - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Oh dear God yes. Super Metroid is still my most favourite game of all time. I would pay 1000 points for it even. Err.. please don't tell Nintendo that, though. :/ I have a feeling they'll be charging a premium for the more popular games (check Japan if you don't believe me).
- phort99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ErifNeerg:
First of all, it's Metroid you're thinking of: Super Metroid is for SNES. Second, if you've played any virtual console games you'd know already that the Wii has the ability to suspend play at any time on all games besides N64 ones, where if you press Home during play and then go to the Wii menu, it will save the state of play and pick up exactly where you were next time you start the game. This is documented in the user guide for each VC game, of course. Regarding Twilight princess only having 3 saves: Copy your TP save to an SD card. - ErifNeerg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea, i miss read what VGLegends wrote and assume i missed read the article. but suspend play is not an replacement for saved spots.
the TP/SD ideas is too much work for everyday people to get more slots. The whole save system for TP just doesn't work well.I leave such a sour/soft spot. it's open to save on top of another spot (which I've done).
- ChrisRX, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Ok I know basically nothing about business, so can some-one like a business student or just someone with a good knowledge, explain what the advantage of launching all these games one by one is, as opposed to launching every single game all at once
- TheVtHokie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21If they release everything on Day 1 you will download everything you want then and never go back. If you check back once a week looking for sweet new titles you *might* buy something you wouldn't have bought the first go around. Also, this way they can release blockbuster titles when the Wii forecast looks weak to keep money flowing in. Unlike something like iTunes where music can get popular again through its use in moves or advertising, video games dont really get a second chance to get popular; this way Nintendo can get you to look at old games without being blinded by Zelda or Mario Kart.
- CBanga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It gives focus toward one game at a time. People might buy one game weekly, but not 10 games in a week.
If you release the good titles all at once, many of the titles would be ignored. - miggz06, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2@Cbanga
its not like the titles will go away, ppl can view and buy them whenever, they wont be ignored
im still hoping for super mario brothers 2 - gungaroo22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@miggz
The point is:
If you get all the ones you want on day one, why would you even come back?
This way, you check every week for the ones you want, and might end up buying gems you never played. - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -23/+2It's to annoy people like me who don't give a flying crap about games made 10 years ago.
- Four20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I too want super mario 2. it may have been the franchise's ugly cousin, but that was a classic game
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"It's to annoy people like me who don't give a flying crap about games made 10 years ago. Now shut up so I can go back to playing Halo. MOM! Where's my ***** chocolate milk?!"
*Fixed. - SeppukuBLUE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ miggz06
Doki Doki Panic!, right? - andreo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"video games dont really get a second chance to get popular"
Except when they get used in movies (Silent Hill, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, etc) and TV commercials (WOW partnered with Coke).
/Just pulling your chain a bit VT. I knew where you were going with your post. - MajinZero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ SeppukuBLUE, Plus digg for the uber geek knowledge.
However I think I saw on wiki that "the lost levels" are also being released.
- homerj14, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5perfect dark Please
- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It wouldn't be my first choice for a game from Rare... Dinkey Kong 64 OH YEAH!
jk. I wiiiiiiiiiiily want Goldeneye.
- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It wouldn't be my first choice for a game from Rare... Dinkey Kong 64 OH YEAH!
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17how are those "Amazing" ? Yes, the Wii does play NES/SNES/SEGA games, this is no real upgrade. I'm sure they're fun though.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Dugg down for having "Amazing" in the title.
Its getting old, guys.- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3ok I was being a little facetious when I had "Amazing" in the title and an exclamation mark.. Yes they are all old, but a few of these games are ones that I always see being asked for in any thread with virtual console in the title (super mario world, kid icarus, metroid etc).
- crazypantsbone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15"Amazing New" recycled games!
- ErifNeerg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1like may have said before... if there was some worth while change, I wouldn't mind the $5 for an NES game... but come on!
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1pilot wings better have some wiimote support
- Flummoxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why would it?
- soot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No thanks, I'd like Super Metroid instead. :D
- RiemannLebesgue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Notice the last one on the list... GoldenEye!
- saucedmike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nintendo doesn't own Rare or have the Bond License anymore. So I am wondering what they are basing that guess off of?
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Click the link, they are basing it off the article where Nintendo said they were going to try their best to get GoldenEye on VC.
- hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ah the good old days. man i love that game
- kryx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why do some of those release dates say January 2006 for the virtual console? Mistake?
- saucedmike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, I am wondering why Pilot Wings was on the Virtual Console a year ago. But isn't now.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1well since there was no virtual console a year ago, I'm assuming it's just a mistake and then meant 2007
- DTJunkie07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Duck Hunt with the wiimote. I will buy that.
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if a cursor will be an option or not.
- thealliedhacker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Just play the flash version.
- tcwood00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1ummm y would you....just go and get that trial version of the Opera Browser.....then go to this website while on your wii and play it for free....referring to duck hunt of course...
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/games/wii/ - jayswain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good idea tcwood.... I just tried it out. works decently, but game physics are not the same, and I think that game is made for a mouse (faster)....
- JustinPM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wii Play also has a spiritual successor to Duck Hunt as a mini game as well. Though i haven't seen the damn dog yet.
- mike17032, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some of these have a Date of 2009!
- donnydarko319, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I would pay fifty bucks for Duckhunt if they would allow me to shoot the stupid dog. Damn that dog was annoying.
- Karted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sweet, More old games to overcharge people for!!!!
- uberdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Punch-Out? Maybe Mike Tyson will be able to pay his bills now.
- TimeForGuinness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ahhh...my long time nemesis, Glass Joe.
- JustinPM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It probably won't have Tyson in it. It's called Punch-Out, not Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.
- ewoookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It probably won't have Tyson in it. It's called Punch-Out, not Mike Tyson's Punch-Out."
It IS called Mike Tyson's Punch Out. There was a Mike Tyson's Punch-Out and a Punch-Out...two different games. I suspect that the game will never be released because of Mike Tyson's rep these days, but man, Nintendo will sure miss out on what i'm sure would be the highest selling game...
my vote is for the first Metroid
- Sashwan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Duck Hunt!!!
- ZenPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hooray!!
- TheRealM3D, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, I'm 100% stoked for Duck Hunt. It'll totally be worth the $5 to play that again with the Wiimote.
- TheBlackNinja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3***** the Virtual Console, that's one hell of a list for the games!
And apperently Line Rider is going to be on the Wii...
And check out the TBA games, Super Metroid and others are coming. - HOTM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Comix Zone! The awesome side scrolling adventure in a comic!
Props nintendo, mad props.- buddylee415, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Man, I loved this game. It was a cool concept that not many people played. Too bad if you tried to cheat and use the code the game would always freeze up late in the game.
- theamazingboo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm beginning to worry that NOA has forgotten Donkey Kong Country completely...
Ahh well some nice games there, Super Metroid :D - hoginthefog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0oh god,
"bob ross- the joy of painting" - ExtraLifeNG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I demand Earthbound!
- tcwood00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1hmmmm....so i can
1.) virtually paint
2.)wrestle (with my wii remote??wtf??)
3.)play line rider (SWEET!!!!)
4.)play Shrek the third...without a third movie to base it off of
and finnally
5.)own ocarina of time on three different consoles
...all within the next year!!!- EbenieRosa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, you're serious? Shrek the third is infact a movie upcoming...announced far before any game ever was.
- CROWMST311, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whoa, some stuff is coming out so soon..that its coming out last year!
- systemlayers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm still waiting for some good shmups. I have r-type, which is of course a given, but where's thunderforce? or taiden, or gairies? i can think of countless great shmups for sega genesis alone. Still, streets of rage should be a good one.
- Theory557, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Woohoo! Super Mario World, Punch-Out! and Duck Hunt. :)
- caselogic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2was I the only one mezmorized by Tetrisphere on the 64...
on a side note my girlfriend just bowled a 256..wtf. ...my top 204..ugh.- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2dude, I loved that game!!!! It was the only other good launch game for N64. I should write a letter and bribe them to release it.
Yes, my GF kicks my ass at bowling as well.
/me sighs, because he doesn't really have a girlfriend.
/me sighs, because he just made a joke about not having a girlfriend.
/me sighs, because she really would kick his ass at bowling.
- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2dude, I loved that game!!!! It was the only other good launch game for N64. I should write a letter and bribe them to release it.
- Portside, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1One word: Emulator
- al3x24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I want more zelda. Perfect dark would be awesome...
- johnstez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd love to see Punchout using a similar control to Boxing in Wii sports. Probably have to wait for a proper sequel though.
- Redchannel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1WTF ?! Why do they have Virtual Console game dates for 2006 ? I'm burying this for being inaccurate.
- stevejanes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's some great Nintendo-made and Genesis titles coming. I'm surprised they have Goldeneye listed, that would be great if they managed to get the title out this year!
I'm wondering when we will hear third parties announce more titles. I want Capcom and Konami to release some of their SNES and NES titles. What would be really cool is Konami would be able to release their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles titles for the Virtual Console, only problem is that I think Ubi Soft has the license right now (well at least for the new movie.) - Jezmund, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ok this is a nice live up here. But now with duck hunt coming out on VC and Wiiplay having the throw-back style duck hunt shooting gallery, has anyone heard anymore on that new zapper attachment they reveled at E3. If you don't remember here it is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wii_zapper.jpg
- Epyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tetris Attack, Secret of Mana, Super Metroid.
- EVOLJAKE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0These games are not "Amazing." These games are not "New."
Check out the new & improved
