Amazing Fallout 3 E3 2008 in-Game Live Demonstration
gametrailers.com — Bethesda demonstrated Fallout 3 during the Microsoft press conference at E3. Bethesda game director Todd Howard took us through a short gameplay session. The demonstration began with the Vault character leaving Vault 101. He first ran into an iBot, broadcasting patriotic music.

- mark076h, on 07/14/2008, -0/+4it will probably be pretty hard to find ammo for it
- mark076h, on 07/14/2008, -24/+17i think the game and the combat style looks perfect, i think this is going to be great, another classic that won't let the Fallout series and fans down and people will play for years, i cant wait to leave the Vault!
- dandonia, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1I had never heard of it before 3 was announced. - starting to wish I had
- mmijatov, on 07/14/2008, -14/+6Looks awesome . . . I don't have an X-BOX but this is definitely a compelling reason to get one now.
- petebot, on 07/14/2008, -4/+5psst...it's also coming out on PS3...
- JettaMan, on 07/15/2008, -5/+2Definitely XBox 360. No way I'm sitting in front of a small screen at a ratty computer desk. I want to play this on the big screen comfy living room chair.
- Evi1d33d, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4But sitting at distance the actual viewing area will probably be the same. Besides, PC monitor has higher resolution and cheaper. You probably still have the dusty old CRT.
I have a 42" HDTV and it definitely looks a lot smaller when I'm sitting on my couch. - stonedgeek, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2Do as I do. Hook your pc up to a 42" lcd. I play pc games on the same tv as the 360.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1And people like him is why our classic game series are being raped.
- JettaMan, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I got my laptop on my 52" too, same as Xbox 360. Just use it for browsing occasionally. I'd rather game on the 360. Less carpal tunnel.
- Evi1d33d, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4But sitting at distance the actual viewing area will probably be the same. Besides, PC monitor has higher resolution and cheaper. You probably still have the dusty old CRT.
- Koush, on 07/14/2008, -12/+12Yes! that looked awesome and not boring or crappy in any way!.
I regarded Fallout 2 as one of the best games of all time so i'm glad this game probably will do the title justice.- infernal6, on 07/15/2008, -1/+34I can't tell if he's being sarcastic or not...
- digglet08, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3this doesn't look like AN ENORMOUS PIECE OF WORTHLESS ***** after all! :D
- tRANIS, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1It looks pretty kick ass from where I'm sitting. Looks like they took some hints from STALKER, which is good. I felt that game was really just Fallout in Russia.
I am uber geeked about FO3. Now I just need a new computer
lol
- infernal6, on 07/15/2008, -1/+34I can't tell if he's being sarcastic or not...
- rblancarte, on 07/14/2008, -22/+51Geez, Fallout Doom.
Fallout 1 & 2 were two of my favorite games ever. They had very solid RPG play. You had to decide, spend turns taking cover, or attacking, or healing.
This game OTOH looks like it is nothing more than just Doom, with a "turn-based" component thrown in at the end.
I am very worried about the franchise.- mark076h, on 07/14/2008, -9/+8i think once you start playing as long as it has that great post apocalyptic feeling it will be great
- SumguyTwentyOne, on 07/15/2008, -8/+17Okay. Don't play it? Fallout 1 and 2 will still be around for you to play anytime...
- DarkReign16, on 07/15/2008, -5/+30What? Doom is completely linear FPS, this is an RPG, and non-linear.
How you got the doom comparison baffles me. This game looks pretty good, I'm looking forward to it. I hope to see more videos soon too.- BearinG, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3Did you think Oblivion looked like doom too?
- amenic, on 07/15/2008, -8/+21First of all this game looks waaaay too bright to be doom. Secondly, I don't recall tactical nukes, perks, 3rd person view, pausable combat or character stats in Doom either.
Obviously Doom was a bit too dark for you. Perhaps to the point where you didn't notice the gameplay? Just because a game has an fps view and weapons, does not make it a Doom clone. - morninglorii, on 07/15/2008, -8/+3It's too bad that a first-person perspective and a real-time option is enough to ruin an entry in one of your favorite franchises for you.
- IdanE, on 07/15/2008, -8/+9Dear Mr. Fanboy,
Let me guess, you're one of the people that cried that Diablo 3 is too colorful, right?
Fallout 1 and 2 were turn based, like most PC RPGs at the time, and was amazing. Now, all they did was add a real time component, which should be good, since it will bring more intensity into combat, and they changed the perspective - big whoop.
The atmosphere looks amazing, and the amount of shear options is mind boggling - I always love turning turrets against their owners :)
The only thing this has in common with doom is the perspective. Grow up- Flamekebab, on 07/15/2008, -2/+6Fallout was never about "intense" combat. Intense combat is what FPS games are about, not Fallout-series RPGs. In F1/2 one could face down big groups of enemies and plan out brilliant strategies to nail them all. Given a first person view one can only face down a few at best!
So yeah, they changed the perspective, it's a VERY big deal. It fundamentally changes how the game works. The environment as a whole, an overview, was a big part of how F1/2 worked. Confining the player's view to the first person plane screws over the whole shebang!
- Flamekebab, on 07/15/2008, -2/+6Fallout was never about "intense" combat. Intense combat is what FPS games are about, not Fallout-series RPGs. - RKDN, on 07/15/2008, -18/+58This isn't Fallout 3. This is Oblivion with pretty face paint.
This was Fallout 3.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-514846754 ...
I want my game back.- Skab, on 07/15/2008, -5/+10did you ever try to play that alpha garbage?! ***** horrible
- skunks, on 07/15/2008, -4/+11Not surprising it hews close to Oblivion. Bethesda bought the franchise and used the Oblivion framework for the game underpinnings, or it would never have come to market so soon. That said, I'm reaalllly looking forward to this game.
- JettaMan, on 07/15/2008, -6/+8Seeing as Oblivion rocked on the Xbox 360, I will be getting this game. That engine was pretty sweet.
- damnmonkey, on 07/15/2008, -4/+7That vid looks no better than fallout2.....I'm excited about this 3rd installment.
- HaMMeReD, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1The engine has improved considerably since oblivion was released for 360. Even the updates we got around the ps3 time boosted performance maybe 20-30% in parts. I'm sure the engine is even more kick ass now.
- Nn010385, on 07/15/2008, -5/+11Quoted for ***** truth. Fallout 3 is just a re-skinned Oblivion.
- AZRoboto, on 07/15/2008, -4/+6Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
That trailer on Google looked terrible and Oblivion was a great game. Like the three people above you, I'm excited for this.
- AZRoboto, on 07/15/2008, -4/+6Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
- HaMMeReD, on 07/15/2008, -6/+1I'll mod you up for historical accuracy but, there was a lesson in gaming.
2.5d games done in a 2d engine work, it's ***** awesome
2.5d games done in a 3d engine almost always suck
There was a lot of games that got ruined by that transition, I used to love x-com, but the later installments were just clunky and weird. If your using a 3d engine, make a 3d game, otherwise use a 2d engine for your 2.5d design style.- RoboB0b, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11You're confused. 2.5d is a 3D game with a 2D perspective. Think Smash Brothers. 3D models, but you can only move left/right and up/down. I think what you're looking for is whats called isometric. Like all of the Bioware and Black Isle games used to be. It's not top down and it's not side scrolling, but a bird's eye views. Isometric.
- mwalker05, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2diablo III is going to be isometric in a 3d engine. it looks badass. im just saying
- Seraph, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Well I never played either of the earlier Fallout titles. That said, regardless of whether this new game is the Fallout that you remember and love, the environments and gameplay that I saw in that vid looked amazing. It looked like a game I'd want to buy. Bottom line, while Bethesda may not have hit the nail on the head exactly like you wanted, it looks like they've made an awesome game.
- RKDN, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1The problem is that the game is simply good. I recommend you play one of the Fallout games. If they had the balls to stick with what fans of the original series wanted they would have pure gold with this game. They have turned what was an amazingly deep combat system into almost mindless point and shoot type gameplay in comparison. The Fallout series was the pinnacle of RPG gaming (I myself have yet to play anything that has came even close). There only hope for a fan like me would be that they retained the dark humor and atmosphere that was contained in the Fallout games. I will still buy it because I liked Oblivion and this will probably be just as good. I could be proven wrong because this is a rather short video but from what I can tell they don't have the right to call this game Fallout.
- MasterGrief, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2And the combat looks pretty crappy. Even though there are guns in use now, the enemies still react to weaponry in exactly the same way as in Oblivion when you're up close--you see the way the man hit with the shotgun flinched, or how the robot shuddered about when it got blasted? Me neither! Totally static. I'm not saying it's a game breaker, I just think it'll be a realism breaker. Bethesda seems to be more than capable of creating massive environments filled with interesting things to do and see.. It just seems like they can't ever "polish" it.
- notwizt, on 07/15/2008, -11/+6Ah sweet.
- aenegeling, on 07/15/2008, -9/+13noooooooooooo... =(
- pitabun, on 07/15/2008, -27/+7Amazing?
MGS4 is amazing, this looks like garbage - faizal5k, on 07/15/2008, -13/+7Pretty SWEET. A MUST buy for me :)
- SumguyTwentyOne, on 07/15/2008, -3/+39In after "Oblivion with guns".
- Ignignokt01, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8I laughed when people threw that expression around, thinking it was going to be pretty amazing. But after watching this demo, I'm afraid to say that it does look pretty much like... 'oblivion with guns'. IMO it looks pretty crappy. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this is not what I've been expecting.
- zetamilk, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4You -could- talk your way out of a situation.. you -could- hack that turret.. BUT lets use the laser gun instead!
Maybe if they actually showed some of the other ways to handle a situation it would be a little more interesting. - BearinG, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1Oblivion was incredible. If they made another Elder Scrolls with the same engine and a new story I'd get it.. now think different sotry, time period, characters, etc....
- DetpackJump, on 07/15/2008, -4/+9It's nice to see that members of the now defunct Lollipop Guild have found jobs as game developers.
- viper001, on 07/15/2008, -1/+0I thought the dev sounded more like Steve Carell
- Skab, on 07/15/2008, -3/+3And not a single shot will miss in the game like that too right! 1888-4vault-tec
- otros, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6It kinda looked like the character was maxed out, also in the "tactical view (or whatever the Turn based combat was called)" I believe I saw a % to hit.
- hellotyler, on 07/15/2008, -7/+5This looks amazing. Tons of fun to be had here. personally I would have preferred a fallout 3 like at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-514846754 ... but beggars can't be choosers. I'll be happy to see ANY reincarnation of Fallout hit the shelves.
- Shabatoo, on 07/15/2008, -8/+12War... War never changes.
- sfury, on 07/15/2008, -1/+9sadly this war just changed
- drguerra, on 07/15/2008, -7/+49It looks so uninspired. I don't care if they want FPS on an RPG, I don't care if they changed the combat from turn based to real time. But what kills me is that it doesn't even have the same atmosphere anymore. If it wasn't for the Vault suit, it would look like any other generic FPS game. The Super Mutants have no personality, they look like something from a generic alien shooter.
Depressing really, because the first teaser trailer was kinda nice.- gipp, on 07/15/2008, -11/+8You didn't see anything of the game except the combat. How in the world can you judge atmosphere or personality based on that?
- drguerra, on 07/15/2008, -4/+22Look at the cars, for instance. It's generic burned out car. You ever see the cars in Fallout 1 & 2? They were nice old style cars, they had personality. Look at the weapons in Fallout 3. They don't have the retro futuristic 1950s feel at all. The character models aren't very impressive. They are trying to over stylize stuff so it just looks generic. The art direction of the game isn't that great. While Oblivion was flawed, it had really great artwork, very nice modeling. This? This is just generic post apocalyptic. The flute music on the radio was pretty lame, too. It's just not Fallout-y enough. They've taken Fallout and dumbed it down for console gamers, and neglected to keep the style. Bioshock managed to pull off nice atmosphere. Why can't Fallout 3? Disappointing.
- gipp, on 07/15/2008, -11/+8You didn't see anything of the game except the combat. How in the world can you judge atmosphere or personality based on that?
- Sharky35, on 07/15/2008, -5/+14Well the A.I. looks like crap.
The graphics look tight though.
Seems like the combat needs to be sped up a bit too.
Lets see what it looks like when it comes out.- Alfonzo, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2I sure hope you can turn off the mid-shot spinning camera crap (otherwise I'm stoked)
- cawfee, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4"Well the AI and gameplay are crap, but woah, look, those textures sure are lifelike!"
Sums up lots of modern games and remakes, sadly.- BearinG, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2Yeah as if someone actually played it ...
- willywong, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I think they need to tighten up the graphics.
- Oztog, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4A Bloody Mess....oh how I missed thee.
- LunaticFringe, on 07/15/2008, -10/+12The people burying criticism are probably the same people who think the lifting of the ban on offshore drilling will mean some notable decrease in the price of petroleum in their lifetimes. I'm someone who actually supported Fallout 3 at one point, and I have to say the video leaves my expectations crushed via vast disappointment. I expected so much more than something that looks like it was made in Garry's Mod.
- MasterGrief, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Way to go. You compared a video game franchise about nuclear power gone awry to people drilling for oil at sea.
- seaniepants, on 07/15/2008, -12/+7I've waited ten years for this.
For all you worriers, I'd say the game is in very capable hands. - GateOpener, on 07/15/2008, -6/+37Where is the old 1950s art style the original two had? This really does just look like a crappy FPS. Very very dissappointed.
- p2im0, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8Couldn't agree more. Not at all what I expected.
First 30 seconds looked great, as soon as he lined up the sniper-rifle for the (auto)headshot I completely lost interest. - AZRoboto, on 07/15/2008, -8/+3It's weird how the comment below GateOpener's by nanosec says how the art made a nice transition and that it stays true to the original (on top of many others in this discussion).
Fallout fans are probably the most inconsistent bunch of fanboys I have ever seen.
- p2im0, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8Couldn't agree more. Not at all what I expected.
- nanosec, on 07/15/2008, -7/+7I'm glad to see Fallout 3. I have very fond memories of Fallout, with the 50's style art, and I see from the new Fallout 3 trailer that this art
has made the transition as well as the theme music.
I'm glad the new developers have at least attempted to stay true to the original.
I can't remember the entire details of why the original development was scrapped, but I assume it was buyouts and takeovers.
Either way, here's hoping for a great launch for a concept that has and still is refreshing from alot of other games out there.- welestgw, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Interplay/Black Isle Studios went bankrupt and they sold the license to Bethesda Softworks. They scrapped the original Fallout 3 code and redid it from scratch.
- Tyrghast, on 07/15/2008, -7/+2It looks cool, and all of the effects looked great except the explosions. You'd think since we'd have a mini-nuke, that the asploshunz would be epic.
- NiGHTSChao, on 07/15/2008, -19/+23Amazing? Are you ***** serious?
I can already tell this game is going to suck ***** ***** compared to the previous legends that are Fallout and Fallout 2
I bet that this will not have storytelling on the levels that F1/F2 had, it will be like Oblivion, just some convoluted plot stuck together in some open ***** world
Sorry Bethesda, but I ***** hate you, this preview has completely killed my hopes for this game, and yes I am a stubborn Fallout fanboy, ***** Final Fantasy VII, ***** SuperMarioRPG, and ***** your Diablo *****
*****- BraveRobot, on 07/15/2008, -7/+1you forgot a couple ***** at the end there
- noerrorsfound, on 07/15/2008, -1/+5*****!
- MasterGrief, on 07/16/2008, -2/+2It doesn't look very good... I agree with you there. However, you probably shouldn't use several minutes of crappy preview footage to form such an apparently intense hatred for a company that never actually did anything to you.
- ortucis, on 07/15/2008, -16/+3I thought Fallout sucked, just like Starcraft. But fanboys disagree, and I don't care enough to not post about it.
- seaniepants, on 07/15/2008, -7/+13Stop whining. The 50s style is still there.
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36202.html- drguerra, on 07/15/2008, -4/+6Yeah. The 50s style is in the commercials, sure. But ingame? Not really.
- Coffeedemon, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4how the hell would you know. You've seen about 2 minutes of the game in an area where any significant details of the style would have been destroyed by the bombs anyway.
- sfury, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4***** that *****, just take a look at the official Fallout 2 Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FLQQ_RgteQ
- damnmonkey, on 07/15/2008, -2/+3*****.....thanks for posting that.....ANYONE worried about the art style/direction should definitely watch that vid.
- drguerra, on 07/15/2008, -4/+6Yeah. The 50s style is in the commercials, sure. But ingame? Not really.
- fanclerks, on 07/15/2008, -4/+3I can't say I was particularly interested in this game prior to seeing this video. Now that I've seen it though, I'll definitely give it a chance. Aside from the amazing graphics and interaction, I'm curious to see how the whole good/bad thing works with it. Plus the apocalyptic look makes for a great look.
- sek52, on 07/15/2008, -10/+7War. War never changes.
- soulkitchen, on 07/15/2008, -6/+7I will pay for this game.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/15/2008, -11/+20I knew they were gonna make Oblivion with a Fallout skin. What a crock of *****. I want a true sequel.
- BearinG, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Its just using an engine.. why start from scratch (they would've had too anyway caus the old engines would be too crappy for "next-gen" anyway).. just cuts development time ..
Not like Oblivion was a crappy game..- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Have you played the previous Fallouts?
It would be the same ***** if Blizzard made Diablo 3 a first-person shooter. Isometric turn-based tactical combat, that is what the original was and it should have stayed that way.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Have you played the previous Fallouts?
- BearinG, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Its just using an engine.. why start from scratch (they would've had too anyway caus the old engines would be too crappy for "next-gen" anyway).. just cuts development time ..
- Proctor, on 07/15/2008, -11/+2Is this on PS3? If not, it probably wont run.
- oishiitoriniku, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7What does that even mean?
- HaMMeReD, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1when bethesda put oblivion on ps3, it required a year of optimizations to get it up to speed.
- deadbaby, on 07/15/2008, -2/+11Kinda disappointing it's shaping up to be yet another FPS style game. I was hoping for something either more innovative or more true to the original games. The guy in the video says "this never gets boring" but yeah, it really does. Once you go down the road of FPS style game play it starts getting really hard to stand out from the hundreds (thousands?) of other FPS we've all played in the last 10-15 years.
- sfury, on 07/15/2008, -4/+14I am so disappointed. I never bought the hype about this one, but still had some hopes that Bethesda would not ***** it up...
I've been playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the last few weeks, the game has tons of post-apocalyptic atmosphere, and though it is set in the near future I feel it has IT times and times more right than Fallout 3. So I'll probably be playing Clear Sky instead. Doesn't matter it doesn't bear the Fallout trademark, it just feels like the right successor.- damnmonkey, on 07/15/2008, -5/+3.....yet you haven't played fallout3 yet, right?
- sfury, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Right. All I see is disappointing in-game trailers and ever more disappointing snippets of info.
- ecaroth, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3I totally agree with you... STALKER was so reminiscent of fallout for me that I am looking forward to Clear Sky more as well... The first time I heard the other stalkers playing the acoustic guitar around the fireplace, while I recovered from radiation poisoning really brought me back. I will play fallout 3 out of principle, because I loved the first 2 so much, but it's got a lot to live up to...
- damnmonkey, on 07/15/2008, -5/+3.....yet you haven't played fallout3 yet, right?
- cawfee, on 07/15/2008, -3/+4Is it just me or do the graphics look like Hellgate London with a bit of a facelift?
- tumbler360, on 07/15/2008, -1/+10Looks a lot like Oblivion.
I'm not feeling good about this game anymore. One of the things I disliked about oblivion was everything felt kind of dull and washed out, like too many low res textures were used. the combat seems interesting but the look of things seems to gray. Maybe a better demo of the game will give a better video quality. - Di0genes, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5The animations and AI seem very History Channel's Civil War-ish to me.
- zaptoman, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8Looks like we're getting a new definition of the word "amazing" here. Tacking a 3 on the end does not a Fallout game make.
- Gizza, on 07/15/2008, -7/+2***** stupid piece of ***** Australian government.
Guess I'll pirate this game and blame on our government if I get caught.- HorseloverFat8, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Rather than complaining, why not try doing something about it? Write to a newspaper or start a petition to get an R rating for computer games.
- Gizza, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Vote already went through a few months ago, all but one Attorney-General was for an R rating. That was all that was required for it to not go through. Until this one guy retires or dies, it ain't gonna happen. He is like our Jack Thompson, except he actually has power.
- melkore, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1How about importing it for cheaper than buying it domestic like the rest of the Aussie gaming population?
- HorseloverFat8, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Rather than complaining, why not try doing something about it? Write to a newspaper or start a petition to get an R rating for computer games.
- oishiitoriniku, on 07/15/2008, -4/+3Excited, but very worried. The combat looks like *****, but then again, that was never the best part of the Fallout games to begin with.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3The combat in the first two was awesome, I don't know what you are talking about.
- lolupissed, on 07/15/2008, -7/+2gametrailers crashes my iphone
- oishiitoriniku, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1Listen to the main title music on the official web site. Now here's some of the original - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S755EwNbel0. This is really going to make it feel like a different series.
- silence7, on 07/15/2008, -5/+10Ok, I've never played Fallout, and I've been gaming forever, (Owned a home pong system when it first came out, and almost every gaming system since, including Amigas and PCs) but I love first person shooters, and RPGs. So this looks great. Sorry your franchise got jacked and turned into something other than what you were hoping for but It looks like it's gonna be fun for me..
- Coffeedemon, on 07/15/2008, -2/+4I was one of the people playing this series since the day it came out but I'm not like these clowns (I think we've been inflitrated by the "No Mutants Allowed" crowd who have a lasting hatred for all things not made 10 years ago). Its hard to say if they've fully captured the Fallout experience (need to see some dialogue options and watch something thats not 100% combat). The new trailer (with the black and white video) shows that Bethesda has a good idea about the game I think.
I think this could be a good direction. I don't know how anyone can look back too fondly on having to spend 45 minutes facing off against a hoard of mutants when they go one turn at a time or even worse a ***** of slow moving ants or rats.... only to have your teammate hit you in the back of the head 5 times with a SMG or end up shredding your friend (sorry Dogmeat) with a vindicator minigun because he didn't have the sense not to run right into the *****.
Jury is still out for me but I think they're on the right path to modernizing the franchise. Looks to be a lot of stuff to explore on the shelves, the setting is ok so far (needs more visible landmarks for effect) and it seems to have the options (even if the demonstrator opted to only show combat). Hopefully we can wander a fair bit around outside the city too. - BearinG, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3Couldn't they have a 3rd person view also.?
- silence7, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1You can play either First or Third person...
- Lunarbunny, on 07/15/2008, -3/+9I will admit here and now that I have not played the originals. I'm sure I'll have a number of people replying telling me to, and I may, but I may not.
The game from what I have seen looks at least good, and I will almost certainly buy it. I will likely enjoy it. I apologize that I have no previous experience with the series to base my comparisons on, but I think dismissing the game outright from trailers and previews is simply dooming the game to failure for you no matter how good it is.
It may just be Oblivion with guns. But at the same time this is a chance that you were waiting for - a third installment in a series you thoroughly enjoyed. I'm sorry Black Isle went in the hole but business is business and money is king.
You have the option of not buying it. That is completely up to you and I cannot force you to change that. You can take the less than legitimate step of pirating it if you must. I suspect that the few dissatisfied fans that boycott will cause but an unnoticable ding in sales.
Maybe for a moment you should consider that this may be a pleasant surprise. Look for something wrong and you will most certainly find it. - TobiasParker, on 07/15/2008, -3/+18I love fallout 1 and 2 with a passion, i have a fallout tattoo for christ sakes, everyone just ignore the stupid fanboys. They will never be happy. This game looks good, times change, games change. I mean look at super mario galaxy, imagine if mario was still a side scroller just to please purists. Bah, i will buy it, it will be awesome, i honestly don't know that i could have fun in a turn based isometric rpg anymore...that is just so...90's.
To the haters:
That character was obviously enhanced to provide and action filled demo to the idiots at E3. That is why he just stood in front of the walker and threw grenades. In the actual game i imagine there will be strategy involved. I mean there is no way he could have withstood that.- nanosec, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Dugg for Fallout Tatoo :)
I would love to see a pic of what it looks like! - flaran, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1Dugg again for Fallout tattoo. Pics?
- nanosec, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Dugg for Fallout Tatoo :)
- lelux, on 07/15/2008, -3/+8"This is a game where you can play any kind of character you want. You can play a stealthy guy, combat guy or use speech to persuade people."
Seconds later he is blasting people with a sniper rifle just like in every other FPS game I've seen.
"I can hack this computer and take control of the turret if I want but I'm gonna switch to my laser rifle..."
I don't want to see 100% combat in the demo of a game that supposedly lets you play how you want. I want to see if the other facets are thought out and implemented well enough to distinguish this game from the thousands of other FPS clones out there.- Coffeedemon, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4Tell that to the suits sitting in chairs at the conference. They probably don't want to see strategically picked dialogue, hacking of turrets and witty remarks... they want to see ***** get torn up.
- melkore, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1You forgot to mention that after that he was going to show the combat aspect in this demo. It showed of V.A.T.S which looks interesting at least. When he stunned the robot I really wished he would have said you could hack it and make it an AI ally.
- slyzxx, on 07/15/2008, -8/+2too slow and boring its like mass effect you gotta pause find buttons use diffrent combo`s then play idk may i liked half life 2 and ep`s due to the fact it was have the guns and just blast through instead of pausing, choosing, aiming.
- Lunarbunny, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3The period is used for more than the end of a train of thought. Just an FYI.
- HorseloverFat8, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6The video's not very impressive, but then he didn't demonstrate any of the RPG elements, only combat. HOPEFULLY it turns out better than it looks.
- Jaysunli, on 07/15/2008, -6/+2If it has a First Person view it obviously means its a First Person Shooter right?
I'm not sure what is wrong with you people. We've seen very little so far to even justify complaining about it being too FPSy. Complaining about the game because its not Fallout 2 with better graphics is ridiculous. And even if it was Fallout 2 with better graphics you would be complaining about that too.
Seriously it's ridiculous.
From what I saw it looked pretty good. The rag doll physics don't impress me but thats not a major gripe.
Just the fact that you pick up different radio stations that can lead you to different quests and people in the game seems like a very cool idea. The VAT seems very simmilar instyle to the original game. I'm just wondering how suped up these guys were for the demo. One shot kills probably don't happen as easily in the game as shown in the trailer. That's probably what gave people a bad taste in there mouth in the first place.
They don't understand how a demo works and conclude that everything they just saw is instantly what the game is all about. - kraft2000, on 07/15/2008, -3/+6I think this game is going to suck. Turning fallout into a fps like this is not a good idea.
- Blaatann, on 07/15/2008, -3/+0Sorry.. that looked like.. Something brown and stinky smeared over the screen. What is it with new games mistaking brown for realistic..? Hope this was a very early sneak peak at concept art and animations. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. looked ten times better even though that world was severely amputated. I wanted to love Oblivion, and I played it a great deal, but the magic of the old Morrowind series was gone. Even though I have never played the old Fallout games (I know of them though), I can see that the same thing is going to happen here.. For some reason it just won't feel like a real, living world. Seems much to artificial for some reason I just can't put my finger on.
*sigh*- Coffeedemon, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Wah, wah, wah.
They showed you what would be an approximately 1/4 mile walk at best. Do you seriously believe that in a "100 hr" game you're going to be in a area that small? Jesus... wait till there are areas shown outside the city or something.
Its pretty hard to assume the "magic" of Fallout is going to be lost if you didn't play the goddamn games in the first place (seriously, who over the age of 25 doesn't "know of" the series?). How would you know?
- Coffeedemon, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Wah, wah, wah.
