- drguerra, on 07/15/2008, -7/+49It looks so uninspired. I don't care if they want FPS on an RPG, I don't care if they changed the combat from turn based to real time. But what kills me is that it doesn't even have the same atmosphere anymore. If it wasn't for the Vault suit, it would look like any other generic FPS game. The Super Mutants have no personality, they look like something from a generic alien shooter.
Depressing really, because the first teaser trailer was kinda nice. - RKDN, on 07/15/2008, -18/+58This isn't Fallout 3. This is Oblivion with pretty face paint.
This was Fallout 3.

I want my game back. - SumguyTwentyOne, on 07/15/2008, -3/+39In after "Oblivion with guns".
- infernal6, on 07/15/2008, -1/+34I can't tell if he's being sarcastic or not...
- GateOpener, on 07/15/2008, -6/+37Where is the old 1950s art style the original two had? This really does just look like a crappy FPS. Very very dissappointed.
- rblancarte, on 07/14/2008, -22/+51Geez, Fallout Doom.
Fallout 1 & 2 were two of my favorite games ever. They had very solid RPG play. You had to decide, spend turns taking cover, or attacking, or healing.
This game OTOH looks like it is nothing more than just Doom, with a "turn-based" component thrown in at the end.
I am very worried about the franchise. - danmat06, on 07/14/2008, -11/+36The Fatman FTW.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -5/+30What? Doom is completely linear FPS, this is an RPG, and non-linear.
How you got the doom comparison baffles me. This game looks pretty good, I'm looking forward to it. I hope to see more videos soon too. - drguerra, on 07/15/2008, -4/+22Look at the cars, for instance. It's generic burned out car. You ever see the cars in Fallout 1 & 2? They were nice old style cars, they had personality. Look at the weapons in Fallout 3. They don't have the retro futuristic 1950s feel at all. The character models aren't very impressive. They are trying to over stylize stuff so it just looks generic. The art direction of the game isn't that great. While Oblivion was flawed, it had really great artwork, very nice modeling. This? This is just generic post apocalyptic. The flute music on the radio was pretty lame, too. It's just not Fallout-y enough. They've taken Fallout and dumbed it down for console gamers, and neglected to keep the style. Bioshock managed to pull off nice atmosphere. Why can't Fallout 3? Disappointing.
- TobiasParker, on 07/15/2008, -3/+18I love fallout 1 and 2 with a passion, i have a fallout tattoo for christ sakes, everyone just ignore the stupid fanboys. They will never be happy. This game looks good, times change, games change. I mean look at super mario galaxy, imagine if mario was still a side scroller just to please purists. Bah, i will buy it, it will be awesome, i honestly don't know that i could have fun in a turn based isometric rpg anymore...that is just so...90's.
To the haters:
That character was obviously enhanced to provide and action filled demo to the idiots at E3. That is why he just stood in front of the walker and threw grenades. In the actual game i imagine there will be strategy involved. I mean there is no way he could have withstood that. - amenic, on 07/15/2008, -8/+21First of all this game looks waaaay too bright to be doom. Secondly, I don't recall tactical nukes, perks, 3rd person view, pausable combat or character stats in Doom either.
Obviously Doom was a bit too dark for you. Perhaps to the point where you didn't notice the gameplay? Just because a game has an fps view and weapons, does not make it a Doom clone. - RoboB0b, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11You're confused. 2.5d is a 3D game with a 2D perspective. Think Smash Brothers. 3D models, but you can only move left/right and up/down. I think what you're looking for is whats called isometric. Like all of the Bioware and Black Isle games used to be. It's not top down and it's not side scrolling, but a bird's eye views. Isometric.
- sfury, on 07/15/2008, -4/+14I am so disappointed. I never bought the hype about this one, but still had some hopes that Bethesda would not ***** it up...
I've been playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the last few weeks, the game has tons of post-apocalyptic atmosphere, and though it is set in the near future I feel it has IT times and times more right than Fallout 3. So I'll probably be playing Clear Sky instead. Doesn't matter it doesn't bear the Fallout trademark, it just feels like the right successor. - ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/15/2008, -11/+20I knew they were gonna make Oblivion with a Fallout skin. What a crock of *****. I want a true sequel.
- Sharky35, on 07/15/2008, -5/+14Well the A.I. looks like crap.
The graphics look tight though.
Seems like the combat needs to be sped up a bit too.
Lets see what it looks like when it comes out. - SumguyTwentyOne, on 07/15/2008, -8/+17Okay. Don't play it? Fallout 1 and 2 will still be around for you to play anytime...
- tumbler360, on 07/15/2008, -1/+10Looks a lot like Oblivion.
I'm not feeling good about this game anymore. One of the things I disliked about oblivion was everything felt kind of dull and washed out, like too many low res textures were used. the combat seems interesting but the look of things seems to gray. Maybe a better demo of the game will give a better video quality. - deadbaby, on 07/15/2008, -2/+11Kinda disappointing it's shaping up to be yet another FPS style game. I was hoping for something either more innovative or more true to the original games. The guy in the video says "this never gets boring" but yeah, it really does. Once you go down the road of FPS style game play it starts getting really hard to stand out from the hundreds (thousands?) of other FPS we've all played in the last 10-15 years.
- sfury, on 07/15/2008, -1/+9sadly this war just changed
- p2im0, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8Couldn't agree more. Not at all what I expected.
First 30 seconds looked great, as soon as he lined up the sniper-rifle for the (auto)headshot I completely lost interest. - skunks, on 07/15/2008, -4/+11Not surprising it hews close to Oblivion. Bethesda bought the franchise and used the Oblivion framework for the game underpinnings, or it would never have come to market so soon. That said, I'm reaalllly looking forward to this game.
- oishiitoriniku, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7What does that even mean?
- zaptoman, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8Looks like we're getting a new definition of the word "amazing" here. Tacking a 3 on the end does not a Fallout game make.
- Nn010385, on 07/15/2008, -5/+11Quoted for ***** truth. Fallout 3 is just a re-skinned Oblivion.
- Lunarbunny, on 07/15/2008, -3/+9I will admit here and now that I have not played the originals. I'm sure I'll have a number of people replying telling me to, and I may, but I may not.
The game from what I have seen looks at least good, and I will almost certainly buy it. I will likely enjoy it. I apologize that I have no previous experience with the series to base my comparisons on, but I think dismissing the game outright from trailers and previews is simply dooming the game to failure for you no matter how good it is.
It may just be Oblivion with guns. But at the same time this is a chance that you were waiting for - a third installment in a series you thoroughly enjoyed. I'm sorry Black Isle went in the hole but business is business and money is king.
You have the option of not buying it. That is completely up to you and I cannot force you to change that. You can take the less than legitimate step of pirating it if you must. I suspect that the few dissatisfied fans that boycott will cause but an unnoticable ding in sales.
Maybe for a moment you should consider that this may be a pleasant surprise. Look for something wrong and you will most certainly find it. - otros, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6It kinda looked like the character was maxed out, also in the "tactical view (or whatever the Turn based combat was called)" I believe I saw a % to hit.
- Ignignokt01, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8I laughed when people threw that expression around, thinking it was going to be pretty amazing. But after watching this demo, I'm afraid to say that it does look pretty much like... 'oblivion with guns'. IMO it looks pretty crappy. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this is not what I've been expecting.
- seaniepants, on 07/15/2008, -7/+13Stop whining. The 50s style is still there.
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36202.html - Skab, on 07/15/2008, -5/+10did you ever try to play that alpha garbage?! ***** horrible
- lelux, on 07/15/2008, -3/+8"This is a game where you can play any kind of character you want. You can play a stealthy guy, combat guy or use speech to persuade people."
Seconds later he is blasting people with a sniper rifle just like in every other FPS game I've seen.
"I can hack this computer and take control of the turret if I want but I'm gonna switch to my laser rifle..."
I don't want to see 100% combat in the demo of a game that supposedly lets you play how you want. I want to see if the other facets are thought out and implemented well enough to distinguish this game from the thousands of other FPS clones out there. - DetpackJump, on 07/15/2008, -4/+9It's nice to see that members of the now defunct Lollipop Guild have found jobs as game developers.
- HorseloverFat8, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6The video's not very impressive, but then he didn't demonstrate any of the RPG elements, only combat. HOPEFULLY it turns out better than it looks.
- silence7, on 07/15/2008, -5/+10Ok, I've never played Fallout, and I've been gaming forever, (Owned a home pong system when it first came out, and almost every gaming system since, including Amigas and PCs) but I love first person shooters, and RPGs. So this looks great. Sorry your franchise got jacked and turned into something other than what you were hoping for but It looks like it's gonna be fun for me..
- Di0genes, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5The animations and AI seem very History Channel's Civil War-ish to me.
- mark076h, on 07/14/2008, -0/+4it will probably be pretty hard to find ammo for it
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Have you played the previous Fallouts?
It would be the same ***** if Blizzard made Diablo 3 a first-person shooter. Isometric turn-based tactical combat, that is what the original was and it should have stayed that way. - Evi1d33d, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4But sitting at distance the actual viewing area will probably be the same. Besides, PC monitor has higher resolution and cheaper. You probably still have the dusty old CRT.
I have a 42" HDTV and it definitely looks a lot smaller when I'm sitting on my couch. - NiGHTSChao, on 07/15/2008, -19/+23Amazing? Are you ***** serious?
I can already tell this game is going to suck ***** ***** compared to the previous legends that are Fallout and Fallout 2
I bet that this will not have storytelling on the levels that F1/F2 had, it will be like Oblivion, just some convoluted plot stuck together in some open ***** world
Sorry Bethesda, but I ***** hate you, this preview has completely killed my hopes for this game, and yes I am a stubborn Fallout fanboy, ***** Final Fantasy VII, ***** SuperMarioRPG, and ***** your Diablo *****
***** - sfury, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Right. All I see is disappointing in-game trailers and ever more disappointing snippets of info.
- welestgw, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Interplay/Black Isle Studios went bankrupt and they sold the license to Bethesda Softworks. They scrapped the original Fallout 3 code and redid it from scratch.
- jtbndy, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4I'm not as doom and gloom as some Fallout fans, but after seeing this demo... I would have rathered FO3 be made by Black Isles or even Troika games.
- Shabatoo, on 07/15/2008, -8/+12War... War never changes.
- aenegeling, on 07/15/2008, -9/+13noooooooooooo... =(
- noerrorsfound, on 07/15/2008, -1/+5*****!
- Flamekebab, on 07/15/2008, -2/+6Fallout was never about "intense" combat. Intense combat is what FPS games are about, not Fallout-series RPGs. In F1/2 one could face down big groups of enemies and plan out brilliant strategies to nail them all. Given a first person view one can only face down a few at best!
So yeah, they changed the perspective, it's a VERY big deal. It fundamentally changes how the game works. The environment as a whole, an overview, was a big part of how F1/2 worked. Confining the player's view to the first person plane screws over the whole shebang! - Coffeedemon, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4Tell that to the suits sitting in chairs at the conference. They probably don't want to see strategically picked dialogue, hacking of turrets and witty remarks... they want to see ***** get torn up.
- Evi1d33d, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3Exactly, take the money you spend on the computer and a console and you'll have enough money to build a decent gaming rig.
- cawfee, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4"Well the AI and gameplay are crap, but woah, look, those textures sure are lifelike!"
Sums up lots of modern games and remakes, sadly. - kraft2000, on 07/15/2008, -3/+6I think this game is going to suck. Turning fallout into a fps like this is not a good idea.
