- nousemerk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28This is old news
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Agreed. And it's obvious, since MS has been the publisher ever since the game's first press release.
Now, what's not necessarily news, but not known to most, is that the PC version *requires* a dual-core processor. It's unfortunate that they don't optionally use the Ageia PhysX card as the second core, though... :/ - AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -25/+2Does this game look like a Resident Evil ripoff to anyone else?
- goosnargh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Some welcome news would be gameplay footage.
I still have no idea what the deal is with this game except that I want it because its made by Remedy. - GoodGod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6antbing - are you a retard?
- Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5More people probably have dual-core now over an Ageia card. Especially at the cost of it.
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@antbind: Wait, wait... "does this game look like a Resident Evil ripoff?" What in the hell are you talking about? The only thing this game has in common with Resident Evil is the general horror atmosphere, and in that vein, Resident Evil is a ripoff of just about everything from Edgar Allen Poe to the Twilight Zone. Do you actually KNOW anything at all about the game, or are you just in the habit of making an ass of yourself in public?
- a0me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4News travel fast, this was officially announced just before E3 2006, back in May last year...
Oh, and it's actually exclusive to Xbox 360 and Windows VISTA (Windows 2K/XP users you're SOL)
@Akaji
Do you have a source for the required specs? I only found this on Wikipedia:
"It was also claimed that the game is unlikely to run on single-core systems, but hyper-threading enabled Pentium 4 CPUs may be able to run it with significantly reduced detail." - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Does this game look like a Resident Evil ripoff to anyone else?"
No. Unless it uses pre-rendered static environments and bad game control.
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Agreed. And it's obvious, since MS has been the publisher ever since the game's first press release.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7If a game is a PC and [insert console here] "exclusive", for some reason it doesn't seem so exclusive. Not everyone will own a PS3 or 360, but most people at least own a computer. Even if it takes a few years for them to update to a computer that can play the games, they will eventually be able to play the game in question. I never owned an Xbox and was interested in a few of its "exclusives". But once Halo, KotoR, Fable, etc were released on the PC a few years later I was able to enjoy those exclusives without having to buy the console.
Even "PC exclusive" doesn't seem as harsh as [insert console here] exclusive, because most of us will own a computer in the future that will be able to play that game. Whereas with a console exclusive, if you don't own the console, you may never play the game (although virtual console, xbox live, etc may change this too).- ASSASSYN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Your thinking way to hard into this. It is the game biz way of saying it isn`t coming to the wii, PS3, and MAC. Now ponder on that simplicity.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5My point is, a game being exclusive is usually a reason to buy the console to play that game. But if the game is on the PC and since the majority of gamers either own a PC or will own a PC in the next decade, then why bother with the consoles at all? Consoles come and go, but most PCs are backwards compatible for a decade or more. Back in the day, if you owned an SNES and not a Genesis, then you missed out on all Sega exclusives. But if those exclusives, like the Sonic series, were also released on the PC, you could still play them to this day. Again, virtual console and Xbox live is changing this, but PC exclusivity diminishes the effect of console wars.
To make it simpler, why bother buying a 360 to play Alan Wake when I will own a PC capable of playing it sometime in the next five years? - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16"It is the game biz way of saying it isn`t coming to the wii, PS3, and MAC"
lol, Mac. - substrom, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2you have jam for brains
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@chocomag: Because the PC you'll own in 5 years will play the game in 5 years... long after the rest of us have enjoyed it. If you have no plans on being cool in the next 5 years, by all means, wait. On the other hand, if you have even the slightest desire to keep up to speed on the general gaming community, then you might want to consider buying a console NOW and play the game when it comes out. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a PC, even in 5 years (a low-end PC now is somewhere around $500... the 360 is $400), and you get to brag to your friends about how you were the first to play this really cool game. Girls will like you too.
- LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ chocobomog
"Majority of gamers" - HA! The majority of hardcore gamers perhaps, yes, but I can pretty safely say that consoles are the major gaming market these days. And it's usually the other way around. People own 360's and Ps2's and will eventually upgrade their PC.
I'm a PC gamer (or used to be) but I'll be damned if I'm going to upgrade my PC every goddam year to play the new releases. A KB/Mouse is very nice to have for some games but you get used to a controller very quickly and unless you are trying to be super-competitive, it's fine for 99% of casual gamers. - Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4And again with the tired old argument/whine that you have to 'upgrade every year, waugggh!'. First of all, this is patently UNTRUE, most computer builds become outdated after about 3 years. The issue there is what is meant by 'outdated' - if you're crying because you can't play every game on its highest resolution settings with every detail turned up high, then yes, you'll be upgrading quite frequently. But that'll have been because of your desire to be on the bleeding edge, a cool feature of PC gaming, not really offered by consoles, which live on the median edge instead. You can set a majority of your games on medium settings, which will still look as good if not better than any of the next-gen consoles (what an oxymoron THAT term is) and not have to upgrade for at least 2-3 years, maybe longer.
Secondly, upgrades are by far not that expensive if you're not shooting for the moon. You can get quality memory, cpu's, mobo's, and videocards for under $200 a piece, easily. And since you can upgrade a part at a time, that's a very reasonable cost, stretched out over time.
Hell, the extra $10 you pay per 'next-gen' game (there's that funny term again) could have gone towards new parts. Taking your fat a$$ to McDonald's one less time per week could pay for a new CPU after a few months. It all comes down to what you want to blow your money on, it has nothing to do with being 'too expensive'. So stop spreading that same tired old bull$h1t, get your facts straight. - unununium, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3omatsei: having the latest games and a fast computer doesn't make you cool.
- Moebaca, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2mmm alan 360
- mr.wizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Microsoft is publishing the game. What did you expect?
- zybch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I for one expected MS to announce that it would be a PS3 exclusive!!
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1On April 1, Microsoft should announce they're starting a new franchise exclusive to the PS3. It'll be called "***** Eaters", will require the PS3 camera, and will automatically post the videos of the best times on the Playstation Network for all to see.
- kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Alan Wake > Mario Brothers
- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Personally, I'd rather see a Max Payne 3, and have them actually work on it for a while instead of releasing it really quickly like the second game.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Agreed
I want another Max Payne
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Agreed
- crossmr, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2How awesome... at least they're giving us advanced warning they're going to make it a ***** console port.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ssssssssswwwwwwWWWWEEEEEEET!
Gimme Gimme - sampson123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I for one am glad they're working on something really new and interesting instead of Max Payne 3.
- riplikethat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think MaxPayne is best left with 2 games in the series. We've had enough (and best) of his universe for now and I am sure Remedy will give us something exciting with AW.
- riplikethat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh wow, it's like Remedy showing 'Microsoft Vista and Xbox 360' at the end of Alan Wake trailers since.. ever. That usually gives the 'interested' lot a hint.
- 64bprophet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I might be wrong, but when someone generally says, "Exclusive" I happen to think that means only 1. Like If a game is Exclusive to Nintendo, it means only Nintendo will have it. So when I read that this game will be "exclusive" to the PC AND 360 I find myself thinking that that really isn't exclusive. Because you could say that Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was "exclusive" to every platform (Wii, Gamecube, Xbox, 360, PS2, PS3, Gameboy, DS, PC), and the only thing that really it doesn't play on it your TI-83, and you all know someone is porting it right now.
Anyway, I say we keep the word "exclusive" to mean what it actually means. I'd say digg me up if you agree.
BTW: I would suggest maybe "Alan Wake to be Microsoft Exclusive" as a better title to this article and a little more truthful.
I'll take my soap-box back now.- unununium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exclusive means excluding others. So it's on the PC and XBOX360, excluding all other systems.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wake slipped to 2008 already. At the rate it's going, it'll be exclusive to Xbox 720.
- Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It would be a shame, though. that the game would be capped by XBOX 360. I mean modern DX10 PCs, especially after the release of AMD's R600,(will) have twice more graphical capabilities than the ol' ATI's 360 card. A game company of that talent would make miracles by fully utilizing the DX10 capabilities.
- crossmr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2of course it will and it will likely have a ***** control scheme because its being developed for consoles at the same time. If its released at the same time (i.e. they don't take 2 or 3 months to clean up the PC version) its going to suck. It does every single time.

- Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'd care about this announcement if they had showed anything good or interesting about this game other than some bland-looking environmental screens. Just not too interested in this title at all. YAWN!
- funkspiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You have over a year to get your computer prepared, so stop whining.
- Neobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmm, AW has is being published by Microsoft Game Studios and you post this story?
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This game looks great graphic-wise. Cant wait to play it on the 360.
- sityerotik55, on 10/03/2008, -1/+0Today with emule I have downloaded film Max Payne, quality bad, but a film wonderful, I advise.
