- pathouston22, on 06/15/2009, -13/+50***** that *****. I'm already paying 40, 50, 60 bucks for a game. Now you want more?
Charge me for that *****, I'll pirate your game. And I paid for COD4. - Digibull, on 06/15/2009, -0/+30Look up Planetside... bit dated now but that game proved that FPS MMOs work very well.
- Squigy, on 06/15/2009, -0/+30I could play a WoW like MMO with guns and grenades I would start paying right now.
- bigp3rm, on 06/15/2009, -2/+29I pvp in rl.
- quaunaut, on 06/15/2009, -1/+26Some people masturbate in the weirdest ways.
- Brak710101, on 06/15/2009, -3/+26Its very hard to pirate a subscription based game and play on the real servers, so have fun with that.
And I have no issues with subscriptions to good games, if they are good enough, they end up saving you more money because of all the other games you end up not buying. - Krakerjax, on 06/15/2009, -0/+20Dear Activision,
Planetside. That is all. - CasinoJack, on 06/15/2009, -0/+20Planetside was several shades of awesome, mainly because it actually felt like your individual actions affected the outcome of the war. Such a shame that they never made a sequel :(
- jake1337, on 06/16/2009, -0/+16***** you, I already have to pay for xbox live, I'm not going to pay you extra to get the full experience of a game I already payed $60 ***** dollars for.

- CoD4, on 06/15/2009, -1/+17I no pay!
- Lyndoman, on 06/15/2009, -0/+15It's not how games used to be, I remember spending hours playing with a painted stick.
- slyzxx, on 06/15/2009, -0/+14That`ll be the end of call of duty, We`re already paying for GOLD and i`m broke from that
- pinoylife, on 06/15/2009, -0/+14pew pew pew
- DriXiLB, on 06/15/2009, -3/+16Just to make it clear to you guys, MMO means "Massive Multiplayer Online", and in my world that means games like WoW, GW, etc. And that is because it is MASSIVE; so many people online at the same time.
And that is where BFH falls apart, it is just a shooter like so many others. And it's free. You can have levels which unlocks abilities, but you can do that in CoD4 as well.
Just pointing out that FPS games with 10-64 players in a map is not "MMO". - inactive, on 06/15/2009, -1/+14I hope it isn't WoW like. I want to be able to aim and use skill.
And I enjoy WoW. - cJw314, on 06/15/2009, -0/+11So long as I don't have to buy the client as well, I'd have no problem paying a subscription.
Try to charge me $60 up front, and you can stick your game UP YER ASS. - inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+9irl
- kahoona1, on 06/15/2009, -1/+10I hate Bobby Kotick so damn much.
- JoeHague, on 06/15/2009, -0/+8“What would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively-multiplayer environment and how do you monetize that?”
You know it's going to be a failure when he uses a word like "monetize"/ - feezus, on 06/15/2009, -1/+8and do what with that pirated game...play it online?
- RegalBegal, on 06/15/2009, -0/+7I think at one point I thought micro transactions were cool. As more and more games are taking advantage, I'm increasingly weary. Didn't RE5 offer you multiplayer with a price attached? (on the 360 anyways) Paying for extra features in game is cool (Extra cars for racing games, extra maps) but when they give you less and less for those 60 bucks, it's getting a bit ridiculous. I don't think the console gaming general public would enjoy an FPSMMO as they are a more casual crowd. What do I know? I'm not the one writing video game opinion blogs.
- Otnehs, on 06/15/2009, -0/+6There's a new game coming out later this year that's currently in closed beta called "Huxley: The Dystopia". I've played it myself and the PvP is hugely unbalanced. The PvE in this game is just like playing Halo in an open world, it's not turn based you just point and shoot. you do missions starting from inside cities and zone out into the "wild" but I believe it's instanced or at least I haven't been to a open world questing area. The PvP however is just like playing Quake, the max players I've seen versus each other was 8 on 8. The arenas are small making sniping (the entire class of Phantom) useless. (I have to stop here or else I'll go off ranting about how bad it is even more)
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+5Bobby Kotick: "what me worry? milk this *****!"
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+5Exactly. Although I contend that Guild Wars is not an MMO either. Everything is instanced, except for the towns or hubs. That's not really much different than being in the bnet chatroom and starting up a game of Diablo 2 with players online. You just happen to be in a 3D chatroom with your characters.
- ivan423, on 06/15/2009, -5/+10Call of duty 4 kicks ass. I play every day. Like this: bang bang bang boooooom, and with silencer ping ping ping.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5You're assuming that a CoD MMO would even HAVE a single player component. If it's an actual MMO, I doubt you could play offline.
Sure, there would be private servers, but just like the WoW private servers, they will suck. - Vosem, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4True. If they announce this it will save me $80. The $60 game and the two $10 map packs.
I won't buy it. - mattyboy555, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5NOOOOOO!
16 player online isn't MMO Activision. The very least then can offer with a paid subscription is dedicated servers. - wrestlingnrj, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4Screw paying every month. I hate subscriptions for individual games.
- CoreyHalliwell, on 06/15/2009, -3/+7After getting into and playing the Huxley beta, i found that their definition of an FPSMMO and mine were worlds apart... I expected it to be like, go waste a boss with friends, with AK's or Future guns or something, and explore and collect loot and build a soldier; basically a WOW with guns, but of course not JUST like wow and hopefully with a less dickish community ;).. I mean imagine mowing down enemies like in say Left 4 Dead and collecting loot and slowly learning to do it more efficiently and just decking out your character! It would have the speef of guns but the worlds and challenges of an MMO. A perfect balance for me
Huxley, offered nothing but Unreal 3 gameplay (get a rocket launcher and go nuts) which has been going on for like 12 years already (see Quake 3, Unreal etc..) with an items screen. Now to me, adding items to a game does NOT make it an MMO. If you want to go with that definition, i mean its so stripped down that Counter-Strike can be considered an "MMO". Definitions are open to debate, but what i find with a lot of people who do FPS MMO's, that they just arent imaginative enough. Maybe the new Blizz MMO will be FPS, that'd be rad.
If COD wants to try an MMO they can go for it but i just hope they dont go doing anything that's completely unnecessary and mix 2 genres in a way that causes an imbalance in catering to each community (FPS and MMO) - mehtheinfernal, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4I'll believe Huxley when I see it. I got my hopes up years ago and it's been dragging it's feet ever since. Not to mention the small 8 on 8 just doesn't compare to the possiblity of epic battles with 100 people involved. Might as well just be a FPS with a social chat room to meet other players. =\
- dogstylee, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4"Would you be willing to pay a small fee to have early or exclusive access to game maps, special modes, and advanced tracking tools? That seems to be what they are banking on."
Sure I'll pay £40 per month to access ***** that is already in the game. How about I throw in an extra £13 for every gun I unlock? Sounds good! - Cloned, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4So we're paying for the game, XBL, and a subscription? (Not to mention the cost of internet)
Even if the extra content is great, we'd still pretty much be paying two different fees just to play online. - stryderjzw, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4SW:TOR
- quantum459, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5Paying for extra game content after paying 60 bucks for the game is f'in ridiculous. What am I paying 60 bucks for in the first place? micro transactions for ANY game is the worst thing you could do. It just proves that game companies are getting greedy.
- KingFog, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4For this to work it would have to be a separate game... Not an "add-on" for a normal CoD game (MW series or not).
- krusheasy, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3MMOFPS sounds interesting. Know alot of folks gonna be upset if they have to pay to play tho.
- harrisbradley, on 06/15/2009, -4/+7I am always amazed by the many different perspectives of entitlement.
- Cloned, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3Did anyone ever play Joint Operations? It was made by Novalogic, the same guys who did the Delta Force games.
That has to be one of my all time favorite online FPS games. I don't remember how many people could be in a room, but the maps were massive. It felt like you could have a full scale invasion. You were able to drive humvees with .50cals, fly chinooks and smaller helicopters, even landing crafts. I have yet to play an online game as great as that. - Misinformant, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3Planetside had so much potential it fell short of. It was a slightly-better-than-decent game that could have been an absolutely amazing game but it was under-developed and over-simplified. I've hoped someone would revisit the concept and do it right.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3@Cloned:
I LOVED Joint Ops. Max players was 150. That game was so freakin awesome. I wish they would make a sequel or something. - inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3Well Planetside was an MMOFPS, so I don't see why the term MMO should be off limits to games of that nature.
- ai52487963, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3A MW2 MMO would either be really good or really bad. I see no middle ground here.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3Wow, Huxley is 8 on 8? I'll pass on that. What a complete letdown.
Why is that even considered an MMOFPS? Or did they just drop the MMO part? - haikuFU, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3I've often thought a complete WWII MMO simulator would be awesome. Sell it as separate discs if it won't fit on one, and break it down like Axis/Allies, or Army/Navy/Marines.
It's still an FPS, but adds sub/warship/flight simulation, and as you advance in rank you get to do cooler things like even develop strategy. Put some spies and intelligence into the mix also. But, it's still an MMO, so the state of the war continues to evolve even when you're not playing. It could be going quite well for the Germans one month, and someone could make a series of mistakes regarding strategy, and the US could be winning a month later. Introduce a budget system for each country which can be spent on weaponry or research/dev.
There are a lot of possibilities with it. But being able to run around shooting things, driving jeeps, flying planes, or operating sonar and launching torpedoes on a sub would be awesome. The strategy component decided by higher ranking players would bring it all together, even though it would probably require some kind of elaborate voting scheme. - uberduger, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Well, duh. Why would CoD4 pay for a game that could potentially steal it's huge audience? Don't worry, CoD4, I'm not going anywhere. There, there, that's a good game... *Pats head*
- alsazen, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Yes, Planetside was excellent - was brilliant fun whether you were in a 8 man squad trying to take some enemy towers (stealthy like.. =) ), or part of a large scale offence/defence, it felt like a real war was going on.
MMOs don't really need sequels, they need maintained and expanded, but I suppose there is only so much you can do if you don't get enough subscribers. A sequel would be good about now though. Maybe Huxley will manage to be a worthy successor? - alsazen, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2If Activision had made that stick, I'm sure they'd try and charge you every time you tried to poke something with it! ;)
- Otnehs, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2@PhoenixReborn: You're not supposed to, but it doesn't really matter since I'm not "in" the beta. ;)
@iSeven: I don't really consider Battlefield Heroes a MMOFPS because really it's just a browser based version of their other Battlefield series unless of course you consider those MMOFPS.
Also like I said, it is a closed beta, and the 8v8 sucks but that doesn't mean there won't be bigger battlefield where maybe the Phantom class isn't as useless. My only hopes are that there would be huge open-world cities that have PvP enabled for certain levels characters because I don't see it being a great game otherwise, it'd just be like having a combined game of Fallout 3 and Quake where the battles in one effect the gameplay of the other but you can only play one or the other at a time. Even turning the PvP into a Battlefield or Planetside type gameplay would make it fun. - MacHarborGuy, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2yeeeaaahhhh, Neocron says hello, from 4 years ago
