- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58Geeks shouldn't do narration... lol.
- mark_in_bc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37Maybe his name is Sam Ray.
- Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Video would be 10x better with morgan freeman narrarating
- jetblackstrat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31They kept saying "Sam" but the guy's jacket read "Ray".
- thegreenone, on 10/12/2007, -5/+34I wish somebody would do a side by side with a gamecube
- sphinx13, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28"He now removes the screws to take apart the case"
Wow, really worthwile naration. - Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Jigsaw puzzles are much more fun when taken apart than when they are put together.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Lab = basement.
Lab technician = Kid wearing "Ray's" lab-jacket.
But nice job. - FyberOptic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Having opened my GCN to put a modchip in, I can tell you the two consoles are nothing alike on the inside. Despite what people like to think, the Wii is not the same as the Gamecube, it's just similar/compatible technology.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9From what I've read, the PS3 is just as silent as the Wii. It seems the 360 is the 'loudest' console (though still barely audible in normal conditions).
- evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Argh, buy a tripod guys.
- thetestament, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That was easily one of the worst narrating jobs I've ever heard. They should get that guy that reviews those cheap knock off 5 color systems on youtube, I forgot his name at the moment though...
- Sandtiger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I went thru !@#$% to try and get one for the holidays and still failed...it made me cringe watching them take apart the controller...up until that it looked like they could put it back together again. Such a waste!
- whitesaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6While we don't know who is going to win of the next gen consoles, IBM is certainly winning in building the processors for all these consoles. ATI is doin a good job too.
- Trogdor420, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yes, Semiconductor Insights is located in Kanata, Ontario, Canada. And if you ask me, its you Yanks that talk funny!!
PS) You can keep Celine Dion, we don't want her back!!! - BrainRecall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ask and ye shall receive: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=287148722109597025&q=take+it+apart+gamecube&hl=en
Not side-by-side, but a general tear-down like this one. - Heatseeker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The PS3 is a very quiet system. And it's not a matter of opinion, it really is quiet. If you dont know what you're talking about, please don't say anything.
- hackmiester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Am I the only person around who would have rather seen this in pictures? With YouTube's ultra-super-***** video quality, it'd be a lot better if I just had a still at a decent resolution so I could see the boards, etc...
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm Canadian and I sure as hell don't say pro-cessor.
- phort99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+423r17i05o42n:
You can't reply to anything but the first post and half of your comments are insubstantial trolling in whatever Wii article happens to pass your glance. You haven't contributed anything to Digg besides your one line of Wii-bashing garbage per article (If you can call that a contribution). Play 20 minutes of Zelda, you might think a bit differently. The only inaccuracies in the controller are due to poor game programming, not poor tilt or acceleration sensing, as anyone working on the drivers for using Wii-motes with Bluetooth PCs could tell you. I hope more people can find their way to the block button beside your name, since you obviously have nothing worth saying, or hearing. - cr0y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3THIS JUST IN
Megabits do not equal megabytes
someone needs to teach these guys the difference - makihimego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Elpida,NEC,IBM,so many chips .
- GliTCH82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Then who should? I say no one, just put up big speech bubbles around the Wii like
"Ouch that hurt, you *****!" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Prooocessors
- Alt86, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5the ps3 teardown is pretty neat as well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg36QFaYbtU - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NEC just manufactures the ATi graphics processor. As for the rest, the chips Nintendo used were pretty self-contained and didn't need a lot of external patch logic, which keeps the prices down so it's a very good thing.
It's about as boring as tearing apart a calculator to see what's inside though... - avolant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"It seems the 360 is the 'loudest' console (though still barely audible in normal conditions)."
it is, however, nearly deafening in low gravity.
the more you know... - Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, I've opened up my 360, it's a lot simpler on the inside than this.
- curlednoodles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What an awful accent the narrator had! ive never heard someone stress the letter 'R' so strongly!!! was hard to understand him in places...
interesting video, nonetheless...... - FyberOptic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah it's funny how all home computers are going Intel-compatible (eg. Intel Macs), while consoles are all going IBM this time. I know past consoles have as well, but Microsoft doing so with the 360 was a bit of a surprise considering their previous choice.
- Dunadan, on 10/12/2007, -10/+11Why, so we can see once and for all they aren't the same thing like the Xbox 360 and PS3 fanboys want us to think?
- Boatpunc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Maybe that's how you say Ray in Canadian
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting teardown but a terrible commentary track. The guys on the audio sound like bad golf announcers
- fuzzboxer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow, that was nerdy. Super nerdy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@tizz: Yeah if your normal conditions don't include playing movies on it. One word: fans.
- spoonard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hate seeing this for the reason that I don't have a Wii yet and want one SO badly. Dr. Phil is giving them away to his audiences by the truckload, people are smashing them up on Youtube, and now they are dissecting them so they can explain the innards to people who could really care less. I'm just frustrated by this. Who the ***** cares what's inside of it. Besides we all know that's not whats really inside. It's really composed of rainbows and angels.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bender approves the tech pr0n.
- blayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Was he saying "die muther *****" at the end?
- Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My Xbox 360 is really loud. I'm beginning to think there's a loose fan or something because I can still hear it quite a bit even just in the dashboard. Playing a game makes it sound like a jet engine unfortunately.
Oh well, I'm still willing to deal with it because of the great games. - msgyrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Moderngeek:
The cell is a powerpc-capable chip, but it's not just a standard powerpc processor. Not being a Cell chip developer, my guess is that a Cell could run code written for the powerpc, but a powerpc couldn't run stuff written for the cell.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_(microprocessor) - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1popfrogs: I play movies on my 360, and yeah if I had the TV muted I'd just about be able to hear them, but in 'normal conditions' (i.e. with the TV on), it cannot be heard.
- imbiginjapan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Video would be 10x better with morgan freeman narrarating"
March of the Consoles?
'And the brave baby Wii begins the long, hard march across the ocean to the Target store shelf... only to be snatched up by the claws of a hungry gamer as soon as it reaches its destination.' - synace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Win a Nintendo Wii, no purchase necessary.

http://www.midnightbox.com/contest/wii20061218 - Mrstupid7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If it was pronounced pro cessor wouldn't you have to have some sort of verb to elongnate the vowel sound? It's been a long time since I've had any sort of grammar but I figured that pro cessor would be spelled proacessor or proicessor.
English has ***** up pronunciation rules anyway. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0these guys even sound like nerds. love it
- jmaynardg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0by Trogdor420: "PS) You can keep Celine Dion, we don't want her back!!!"
Yeah, we have plenty of prairie down here for her in USian land. - Genshiken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo seems to know what they're doing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Talk about simplicity. Compared to Xbox 360 and PlayStation, interface, exterior and interior design, and interaction are all cleaner and simpler overall.
- aminom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0All in all, the consumer wins. This generation wii seems to have the most fun concepts, at least that is what it seems _so far_. If the remote turns out to be something big and sustaining, the next generation will have such interactive controllers standard. And then one of the three (or maybe a new maker entirely) will make the next big leap. It could be any of them; don't try to predict the future, fanboys ;)
- aminom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have a The Wii but this video just screams nerdy fanboyism of the The Wii :(
