- brianjameskirk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+160Who wants to open a one-man Wii development studio with me? I'm not sure if I can do it myself.
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+137Our first title will be a game called "BitTorrent." It requires a special peripheral, called a "USB Mass Storage Device."
- fldash, on 10/12/2007, -13/+135Okay, who want to open a Wii development studio with me? I'm serious.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+74Is the game called "SERVICE UNAVAILABLE"?
If not, http://www.duggmirror.com - meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+65It's mainly the UK that gets screwed. We have a VAT of 17.5%
But then we do get completely free health care and we get free tea and scone deliveries to our castle homes, so i suppose it's worth it. - dirtyharry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+59Unfortunately they don't just hand out Dev Kits...
"An authorized developer must have demonstrated the ability to develop and program excellent software for Nintendo video game systems or for other video game or computer systems. In addition, an authorized developer must have a stable business organization with secure office facilities, equipment, personnel and financial resources in order to insure the security of Nintendo proprietary information and in order to ensure an effective environment for working with Nintendo and/or its licensees. Home offices do not meet this requirement. Nintendo provides authorized developers with highly proprietary information and many of Nintendo's licensees also rely on recommendations and referrals to authorized developers. For these reasons, Nintendo exercises a very high level of care in approving only a select number of authorized developers." - from warioworld.com
Oh well, I'll stick to PC games and maybe one of these days we'll win IGF. - loginname, on 10/12/2007, -4/+55I believe the Devel. kits were around $2k
- icantdrawanime, on 10/12/2007, -9/+52I call president!
seriously though... This has me excited. How much were those wii dev kits again? - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43This appears to be a pretty basic casual game, but costs as much as a normal game. Almost $50 for what should be a $5-$10 XBLA type game? Wow.
- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37steam on the wii.. sounds painful.
- magus91, on 11/03/2007, -2/+34In Ireland for example the minimum wage is 7 Euros or $9.3079. So at $5.25 minimum wage in the US it takes 9.52 hours to pay for a $50 game and for Ireland it would be 8.38 hours for $78 game.
- meatmcguffin, on 11/03/2007, -0/+32Went over to the US from the UK and saw your petrol prices were only slightly cheaper than ours. Then i realised that those prices were quoted in gallons and not litres
We pay roughly 4x more for petrol than the US, and yeah, we do complain :) - CGreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Zelda for Wii costs $88(usd) in Sweden.
if anyone cares(I know you dont!!!!) - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Holy crap, you guys in Europe get SCREWED!
- fldash, on 10/12/2007, -13/+39Can you read? This is UK pricing, not US. From the article:
Super Fruitfall sells for £24.99 ($48) compared to a full priced Wii title, which sells for £39.99 ($78).
It's priced at a 40% discount. - NICU, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29I don't think they should single the guy out for not being married... Its just rude ;-)
- mvanhorn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28I agree, this should be like a console download game it looks. Who would pay $50 for this? Cool idea, but not priced well enough.
- __J__, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25That's not what the article is about... it says
"not all Wii games are gong to have one man teams, but this suggests there still is a place for budget titles on the Wii" - HDhandyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Anyone (who owns a PC and a 360) who wants to give development a try can download the XNA C# overlay for free and try writing games for the 360. It costs $99.00 per year to write the games over to the 360 rather than PC, but you won't have to beg Nintendo for a Dev. kit, and there is a huge community of folks to help with support!
- paku, on 10/26/2007, -0/+21Whoa.. They pay $78 for a game in Europe?
- coheedcollapse, on 10/26/2007, -4/+2140 percent discount is still not worth it. XBLA has plenty of good games for a lot cheaper than that that probably have the same playtime and I just bought freaking Lemmings Full Version on the PS3 Online Shop for $3.00 yesterday (and the other games that have been released are all under $10).
- Ub3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16This is a bit deceptive. The game was originally made for mobile phones and was adapted to use the Wii controls.
http://www.nissimo.co.uk/index.php?id=PROJECTS - Repiv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Publishers generally press the CDs, not the developer.
- WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I would love to see more of these titles, especially in the US. But why not release them on the virtual console instead of having the extra expense of manufacturing? It would make sense for a one person developer to go the cheapest route possible.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@magnus
Thanks for clearing that up, I never thought about it that way. I guess you really can't compare direct conversions, but there will still be people who do it. - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think it's a pretty cool move on Microsoft's part. The cool thing is that the $99 a year obviously doesn't just let you run your own software, but anything anybody else releases, meaning we could see better media players ( Imagine a VLC port ) and such. Mame.. etc.
Assuming microsoft gains even modest traction with XNA, it should be a pretty good deal compared to buying games from XBLA (Which.. I've been mostly disappointed with lately) - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11You can find an official playable version of Fruitfall here:
http://www.sogoplay.com/fruitfall/ - hlidotbe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@meatmcguffin, ah! 17.5% VAT! Please come to Belgium and meet our 21% VAT
- pinky24, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13someone is slow...
- sparkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9steam on the wii... hope you're not from Cleveland.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Living conditions and average salaries change prices in other places. It's still proportional, though. Isn't gas like $7.00 over there? I don't hear them complaining...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7BUT our rent in the UK is HORRIBLE. I pay £500($1000) a month for one room...I always moan about this on Digg...
Need to move to mainland Europe. - strictnein, on 10/26/2007, -2/+8@fldash:
Yes, I read that. How, exactly is that a "discount". As I said, this is a $5-10 game. At most, it's a $20 game which is the standard price for casual games. I'm sorry if you don't understand the market. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6but looked like crap and were very poor, and played on pc's which not many people had in the 90's,
1 guy production team for a next gen console is pretty good going :-) - championchap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6hey, that website comment got me thinking
whos's up for making an open source Wii game?!
Community development on an officially launched title sounds cool to me
id love to be a part of something like that - triblinator, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10KILL WORDPRESS!!!!
- motagua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5well I just played the free online demo of the game, it's a pretty fun game, it's a good game for a budget title.
http://www.sogoplay.com/fruitfall/ - shakin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Flash-type games would be great on the Wii. They should provide a Wii channel where Flash programmers can upload their games for free, but allow paypal-type donations.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/A_Nintendo_Wii_game_is_made_by_a_SINGLE_person_and_it_is_released/
voila - mingistech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i heard the Wii had a 1.2Ghz CPU.
where did you get this 733Mhz from? - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.wiifii.net
- emosewami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Putting a link in your post is really lame.
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/A_Nintendo_Wii_game_is_made_by_a_SINGLE_person_and_it_is_released/#c4179098
Don't just SAY "kill wordpress!!!"
-_-! - AshTR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3One guy made that? Looks look an okay game...not too shabby.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6wow it only took 1 guy to make THAT...holy impressive! Welcome to 1990 where games like that were a dime a dozen and all made by 8 year olds in the basement and distributed as shareware via the internets tubes.
- gotmunchiez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I pay £500($1000) a month for one room"
You must either live down south or in a very upmarket area. Further north you can rent a 2-3 bedroom house in a half decent area for around £400 a month.
I visited to the US in August and I only noticed two things cheaper or the same price in the UK. Beer cost about the same in the US. Mobile phones were a LOT dearer over there, for technology that was common here a year or two ago. - scuzzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Congratulations! That just got you added to my "blocked" list!
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2..just wow.
Do you honestly think youTube has what.. a couple thousand server technicians?
One per server?
Haha, lets all go walk into a tech job at Google!! - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think Nintendo won't do it. Too many flash remakes of Nintendo classics. It'd directly cut into their bottom line and Nintendo don't play that.
- dep01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They SHOULD make the dev kits more readily accessible. Sortof an open-sourced gaming system. how great would THAT be?
