- mrsneakypat, on 11/12/2007, -2/+65The system that refuses to die.
- HappyScrappy, on 11/12/2007, -1/+44Freaking amazing. Now the entire machine is in total only 40% larger than the Xbox 360 power supply.
- borninda818, on 11/12/2007, -2/+38Now just put a thin LCD on the front and make the controllers wireless and you got yourself a winner.
- patch6, on 11/12/2007, -5/+35How about making an official Playstation 2 handheld instead of revising the console past the point of absurdity?
- maverex, on 11/12/2007, -5/+33I completely agree with you. When the Xbox360 came out in November 2005, Microsoft Stopped Production of the Xbox a few months later, and maybe 5 more games came out. It is the most retarded thing Microsoft and Nintendo did when they cut support for their last-gen consoles. Heck, PS2 games are still coming out!!
- Lane, on 11/12/2007, -10/+35The ps2 still holds true today on it's projected 10 year life cycle. I can't even remember the last time I went over and saw someone playing a game cube or xbox. Say what you will about sony but at least when they get something right they don't screw you over by stopping it's support. Heck I just rented god of war 2.
- BHRecon, on 11/11/2007, -0/+17Did Yoda submit this title?
- Leomarth, on 11/12/2007, -5/+20I just bought a normal PS2 yesterday. I'm usually a generation behind the gaming consoles so I can pick them up cheap.
- gerrymac, on 11/12/2007, -2/+16lol, thats because its a dam good system.
I bought mine near release date back in the day, it remains one of the greatest gaming investments i've ever made. - themastersb, on 11/12/2007, -4/+18It's what's killing the PS3.
- Alexinator, on 11/12/2007, -6/+18Sony finally has a really big hitter, 7 years is a LONG time when you consider the fact that technology and the technology standard is constantly increasing.
- iofthestorm, on 11/12/2007, -2/+14Gamecube has its one exception with SSBM though, people still play that all the time. At least until Brawl comes out anyway. Although I think with the Gamecube it was dead way before Wii was launched, with the exception of SSBM.
- wiifm69, on 11/12/2007, -2/+131080p and 720p goodness, 5.1 channel surround, bluetooth, 802.11g, F@H, blu-ray... take your pick
- skyfire1, on 11/12/2007, -2/+11The same thing happened with the PS1. Everyone was saying how it will long outlive the PS2.
- ZenMojo, on 11/11/2007, -1/+10...Finally? They've had a really big hitter for 7 of the last 7 years.
- Killbot2015, on 11/12/2007, -1/+9First: Calm down.
Second: Actually the PS2 is still outselling the PS3 and there ARE still new games coming out for it. Also now that the PS3 isn't going ot be able to play PS2 games it's making more and more sense to stick with the previous gen playstation. It's still the most played console in the world and clearly Sony knows that. - epu2, on 11/11/2007, -1/+8holy *****, your comment was hard to read
freaking punctuate man!! - iofthestorm, on 11/11/2007, -1/+8Uhh, much less than that lol.
- acceleration, on 11/12/2007, -0/+6No, the investment was what he had made. The PS2 is what he bought.
- AshamedAmerican, on 11/12/2007, -3/+9"...and plans to outsell the PS3."
Hell, every other system has, this one might as well too.
But I do love the PS2 slim design, hopefully they'll tweak that a little too. - triplehelix, on 11/12/2007, -0/+6compare the number of good games for the PS2, with the number of good games for the PS3, the360 and the wii combined.
- inactive, on 11/12/2007, -0/+5So what? i only own a PSP but the way sony is going i dont mind getting a PS2 either. Kick ass console, completely modable and a huge game library.
- maiku00, on 11/12/2007, -1/+6a larger photo would be nice..
- therearenorules, on 11/12/2007, -3/+7the wii runs all the games that the gamecube did. there is no need for a gamecube anymore.
- staticneuron, on 11/12/2007, -0/+4What? Sony stopped production of the PS1 on march 23 2006. A full 11 years after the PS1's release. Sony just seems to keep true about the long life of their consoles.
- legendxx, on 11/11/2007, -2/+6while everyone on digg is going to digg you down
- Number23, on 11/12/2007, -1/+4The PS2 is such a fantastic console. The handful of games that support HD and/or 16:9 look pretty darn good on a HDTV. Tekken 5 in HD boarders on a 360 launch title.
- sowhat5828, on 11/11/2007, -1/+4@potp
Can you read? he said the wii runs all the gcube games... - Ashkc88, on 11/11/2007, -1/+4@potp
Forwards compatibility? - staticneuron, on 11/12/2007, -0/+3Maximum Resolution Supported
Tokyo Bus Guide 2 = 1080i
Tourist Trophy= 1080i
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom = 1080i
Madagascar = 720p
Gran Turismo 4 = 1080i
24: The Game = 1080i
Gran Turismo 4 = 1080i
And God of war 2 has an unlockable that puches the game above 480p but I hear it doesn't run to well. I know your a big fan of nintendo but how could you miss the news about gran turismo 4 running in 1080i? - Number23, on 11/12/2007, -1/+4Wrong! I have GT4 and Tourist Trophy, both run in 1080i 16:9 and on my Sony XBR2 40 they do not so bad doing it.

Please put down the Ninten-pipe - Elranzer, on 11/12/2007, -3/+6Isn't more than half the PSP's library already portable PS2 games?
- ZenMojo, on 11/11/2007, -0/+3This is what Nintendo wants to do with the Wii and why they want to "redefine the concept of system generations as obsolete." Of course, in doing so they'll want to ignore the PS2 still breaking a foot off in a few asses.
- Mejogid, on 11/11/2007, -0/+3Compared to the power supply?
- solid12345, on 11/12/2007, -0/+3Personally I wish I could get my hands on one of those Japanese Playstation 2's that had a DVR and DVD recorder built into it.
- CheeseburgerBro, on 11/11/2007, -1/+3You're a fool.
Is there some real reason why I *shouldn't* go out an buy an N64 today if I found one for a good price? It was/is a good system, with some pretty cool games. That doesn't change just because newer systems are out -- that doesn't act backward in time and make good games crappy.
You've got to stop trying to keep up with the Joneses, future-boy.
By the bye: I just got a PS2 six months ago for $40 with a buttload of games -- my family is very happy. And, contrary to your arse-speaking, the unit we've got has functioned flawlessly. - Alexinator, on 11/11/2007, -3/+5Well, like I commented on the blog, once production costs are cut, it will actually be more affordable for general gaming use.
- triplehelix, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2who said the PS3 isn't going to be able to play PS2 games? thats like saying because one model of car doesn't have air conditioning, none in the entire fleet is going to.
- solid12345, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2Correct, i've seen a few on Ebay before (try searching model number) but they want 600-800 dollars for it. Still though in the long run it is cheaper than a TIVO subscription.
- yorugua, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe not so. Maybe they think the competition for the PS3 is actually *only* the Xbox. Maybe they see the PS2 as a Wii contender, since it does not have HD output. They have much more games on the PS2, and the PS2 seems even cheaper than the Wii. In that way, they are opening two fronts:
a) PS2 to fight in the Wii front, "cheap" level console market
b) PS3 to fight in the HD front, expensive console market.
In that way, given they seem to understand that there are two diffrerents console markets our there, if that's right they plan to make that also clear to the consumer so that they see that the PS3 and Wii are on different championships.. - D4N747, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2I personally elected not to upgrade to any of the "new gen" systems, mainly because I really didn't see an incredible drastic improve in graphics/gameplay (PS > PS2) and because it just meets all my gaming requirements. I'll probably get a new console in two, maybe three years.
Also, I get all my games for less than 15 bucks now. - Elranzer, on 11/11/2007, -1/+3Well, you know those FF7 fanboys aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the drawer...
- staticneuron, on 11/12/2007, -1/+3And how many new games are coming out for the GC? Say what you want but the 10 year life cycle on consoles sony seems to live up to.
- CCmachined, on 11/12/2007, -1/+2you didn't figure it out by all the Windows people are using?
- CCmachined, on 11/11/2007, -2/+3built in multiplayer!!
- sowhat5828, on 11/11/2007, -3/+4except they're right about the PS2 considering the fact that its selling more than the PS3
- Elranzer, on 11/12/2007, -1/+2Thanks to the Wii's hardware similarity with the Gamecube, Gamecube games run natively on it, not in an emulation mode which is how PS1, PS2 and Xbox1 games ran on their successor systems. That doesn't explain why companies stopped making Gamecube *software* though. It's probably due to marketing, as the "casual gamer" probably doesn't realize a Gamecube game is a Wii game as well. I'll bet a lot of companies could make a lot of profit making GC games nowadays, if marketted as Wii games (and advertised as "requiring" the classic pad or GC pad).
- Corrosionx, on 11/11/2007, -0/+1I still play with my Xbox, but only with XBMC, and I never ever played a Xbox game on it since I bought it.
- Zalyster, on 11/11/2007, -0/+1That's pretty stupid...The PS2 has been out for like 7 years and the PS3 only 1.....No console would have that many good games after a year, dude...
