I am sure they did. - rald84, on 06/17/2008, -9/+92WILL IT RUN CRYSIS?!!!!!!
- SuckMyDigg, on 06/17/2008, -3/+79So where's the goddamn clip? God i hate blogs.
- elstevo, on 06/17/2008, -0/+71"The processor will be featured on a new graphics card from AMD called the ATI Radeon and will go on sale in a few weeks for $200."
ATI Radeon, huh? I'm glad they took the time to get the specifics down on this brand new line. - GregViers, on 06/17/2008, -4/+59Reality we can handle. Graphics cards that can run Crysis are still a few years away.
- Scynet, on 06/17/2008, -0/+51In other news, Samsung claims new TVs are the future, farmers claim eating food will be essential in few years.
- metaliq, on 06/17/2008, -2/+53A fight between graphics cards?! AMD vs Nvidia?!
What has this world come to. - spawnfree, on 06/17/2008, -0/+39dont forget the name of the new card.
Radeon.
cutting edge reporting right here. - Dumbledorito, on 06/17/2008, -3/+37Meh. Many JRPG fans believe games are already real.
- ShorD143, on 06/17/2008, -0/+33that seems real enough to me. i always see giant robots blow out the sides of buildings on a normal day
- ferrariman60, on 06/17/2008, -0/+27Well, gotta come back with something when your competitor launches a new generation of cards that blows yours out of the water, right?
Oh, and FTA: "The processor will be featured on a new graphics card from AMD called the ATI Radeon and will go on sale...." O Rly? - jcasebmw, on 06/17/2008, -0/+24http://mms.businesswire.com/bwapps/mediaserver/Vie ...
Big pic...best I could find. It looks pretty organic to me. - chaos7, on 06/17/2008, -1/+22that scorpion pic does look very real
- Chalks777, on 06/17/2008, -0/+19Saying "ATI Radeon" and leaving it at that is stupid. I'm assuming they mean the ATI Radeon 4800 series. Rumor is that the 4870 will have better performance than a 3870 X2 and still cost less than $300. Which is pretty sweet.
The most recent articles I could find:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ati-radeon-4800,5 ...
http://www.nordichardware.com/news,7356.html - Stormwern, on 06/17/2008, -3/+21Doubt this since they still have a hard time making pre-rendered seem real.
- Kingoftherings, on 06/17/2008, -1/+19Where can I get me one of these ATI Radeons?
I'm burying this article just because of that. - GruntboyX, on 06/17/2008, -6/+23Yes but how much power will this require? the newly released Nvidia GTX200 takes 600 watts at full load. Think about that 600 watts! you sli the cards and your up to 1200 Watts. That starts to add up real quickly and if you game or use interactive content reguraly that is big cost you see on your power bill.
For example.
you run your sweet gaming rig for 1 hour the video cards alone are 1200watts so that is 1.2Kwh or 1200watt hours. if you run folding at home in your off time and keep the computer running 24/7 at max power. Then 1.2KWh * 24 hrs * 30 days = 864KWh. Lets assume the average utility rate is 10cents per Kwh. then your total power consumption bill, just for your sweet computer is $86.40. Now lets say you just leave it on but not running full tilt and your hole system is idling at 600watts. then your power bill is still $43.20.
So i say all that to say. Cool graphics is great, but we need to pay attention to our power consumption. This is far more important than worrying about petty standby loads from tv's and game consoles.
So if you want to save the planet, when you are done fragging, turn off your computer! - t0x2c, on 06/17/2008, -0/+17The ATI Radeon? Oh my god!
- ferrariman60, on 06/17/2008, -1/+17Damn, they scooped that one! Radeon...... huh. Interesting name. I wonder if it will stick? :p
- t0x2c, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1642
- mttyd, on 06/17/2008, -0/+15I'm sticking to my original NES system... The advertisments told me it has "True to life graphics"... Can't be anything better than "true to life"....
- akilleen, on 06/17/2008, -0/+15Competition FTW!
- t0x2c, on 06/17/2008, -7/+21You dumbasses really don't understand computers if you think Crysis still won't play on today's equipment.
- pwnerofnoobs, on 06/17/2008, -2/+16Benchmarks or it didn't happen.
- enderklein, on 06/17/2008, -0/+14thanks! ... not it though
- ferrariman60, on 06/17/2008, -4/+18(With Angsty facial expression) I hate you! They ARE real.... You'd never understand!!! Just.... shut up! I'm putting my headphones back on now.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -9/+23Video clip: http://www.viddler.com/explore/engadget/videos/27/
- JasonCox, on 06/17/2008, -0/+14I love new graphics cards. They're the only thing that still costs more than filling up my car for a month.
- leerayIG88, on 06/17/2008, -8/+22Anime Porn games FTW!
- TacoHell, on 06/17/2008, -0/+13unfortunately, that's not the recommended way to use google.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -2/+14you sir are a genius
- Chebsi, on 06/17/2008, -4/+15Of course games are real. I just bought one last night.
- SobyOne, on 06/17/2008, -0/+11So how many graphics cards do I need to buy to make it that real?
- ophello, on 06/17/2008, -0/+10there: location: over there
their: possessive: stick to their asses - buba1243, on 06/17/2008, -1/+11Until they started their new pricing rules. Won't buy another till they go back to selling them like they used to.
- Jeremyz0r, on 06/17/2008, -1/+10It's just a rumor but.. I believe Nvidia will counter with a series called 'GeForce'. (Should be available in a few years)
- DemonSpawn77, on 06/17/2008, -1/+10You PLAYED Crysis, but you didn't EXPERIENCE it. I wonder how far away we are from the true, maxed out Crysis experience. Who am I kidding? We'll never get there.
- ERTW2011, on 06/17/2008, -1/+9The answer to life the universe and how to to play Crysis on max settings.
- BufordT, on 06/17/2008, -1/+9What will the video game makers put on their TV commercials when this technology becomes standard? Will they have to make the clips in the commercials look more real than real life? Like they do now by putting real looking footage that isn't even in the game. That would make a good Onion article.
- drmangrum, on 06/17/2008, -0/+8The chip can only do what the programmers tell it to do. Until the API's support all these new features in an easy to use manner, it amounts to nothing.
In any event, good graphics != good game. - relic180, on 06/17/2008, -0/+8While Intel is maintaining control of the processor industry, they're certainly not wiping the floor with AMD (and who the hell told you they were ***** and then whiping the floor??).
At the end of last year they held control of just under 15% of the microprocessor industry. Sure intel is a beast, but AMD has been between 15-20% of the market for almost 3 years now. If Intel was wiping the floor with them, they'd be long gone by now.
I have a sneaking suspicion though, that you just don't like AMD. That's why Intel 'whoops their ass', nVidia is 'way better' and ATI is 'completely doomed' because of the merger. Sounds like a solid, well grounded stance to me. - relic180, on 06/17/2008, -2/+10You know what I like about AMD.. they like to stick there asses into new industries and take the top dogs head on. Started with Intel, now they're heading for Nvidia.
Soon they'll have a new operating system to go with it, and a new automobile to follow shortly. - JayD16, on 06/17/2008, -0/+8Its a lot easier to make a still photo look real. I want to see it in action.
- stickstickly, on 06/17/2008, -1/+9There's a rumor goin' around there might be some Radeon out west. So i'm headed out Californee Way.
- swordedge, on 06/17/2008, -1/+8In other news, YOU are not here, you are a simulation of a fictional world that some idiot decided to call earth. This is enabled by the great 3D chip maker, AMD.
- GreyICE, on 06/17/2008, -5/+12That's odd. I have a 9800GTX with 4 gigabytes of RAM available, and Crysis still chunks up on the extreme settings.
I can run it on high settings, but not the most extreme. It's still too much for my card. - noerrorsfound, on 06/17/2008, -0/+6Your Nintendo Entertainment System system?
- t0x2c, on 06/17/2008, -0/+6Considering the XL was a slightly slower XT to save power...
- trollick, on 06/17/2008, -0/+6"Was it a video game? An interactive movie? AMD wouldn't say."
WTF??? What's the ***** point in showing it then??? - ErrOnReq, on 06/17/2008, -0/+6ATI has already gone after Nvidia. AMD just bought ATI.
