- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+177Forget it, Real Life is too expensive. The controls suck, there is no obvious objectives so you spend most of the game running around in circles wondering what to do, and you only get one life with no saves (unless you install the Jesus pack or one of the other brands).
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -6/+133but seriously, forget the Crysis engine, who's developing this "Real-Life" Engine? I want me some of that!
- haystacker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+62Crysis is going to be amazing, and this pic just furthers crytek's awesomeness.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+76And to think, unless you buy the most high-end computer hardware that currently exists, and spend over $5,000 acquiring said parts, even if the game comes out this year, you will not be seeing graphics like this in your home until about 2012.
It may be reality for some rich people with money to burn, but for the rest of us, this is a distant future. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+59another mirror, in case those go down

The grass is about the only thing there that looks not quite right.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42Sigh... Time to pony up for a DX10 card...
- DaWolfman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34And a copy of Vista to run it on.....
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33"is real-life an actual photo? or the name of some other engine?"
..are you serious?? - tormented, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Yeah and I hate all those rich parent hacks. They ruin it for the rest of us.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33The worst thing about RL is the forced sleep function. You have to put it in sleep mode once a day, for at least a few hours, or it gets fuzzy and slow.
- Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34When image shack exceeds the bandwidth:

- Nitescape, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Here are some Hi Res screenshots.
Some of you may have seen these already but for those who haven't...

These are XBOX 360 shots btw - 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29It's kinda like the uncanny valley. Even without the labels there is just something fishy about the Crysis stuff. Of course the grass is all screwed up on the shed one, but even without that, it's as if the generated one is trying too hard to be real. Then again, 20 years ago you were getting dots bouncing around, so this is nothing short of amazing.

- aurath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21My video card is afraid, so very afraid. Wait, I need a DX10 card don't I? And Vista? My wallet is afraid, so very afraid...
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24..we're comparing real-life to a real-time graphics engine, of course its not perfect.
- psylence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17It's exactly the uncanny valley... They're getting _really_ close though...
For those that modded him down, learn up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley - burke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Anyone else notice how they modelled the old shed as a little newer in the render? I think it's trickery to make us think it's even better than it is. Unnecessary trickery. That is FileSystem-ChecKing amazing.
- gmriggs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16you misspelled graphics. gaming has barely changed.
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21More mirrors:

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2096/comparison018mx4df1dl.jpg - kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13The grass looks like repeating textures on the second pic. On both pics the ambient lighting isn't turned up enough.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15A DX10 card? You'd need a set of two (or more?) to run the game at that quality.
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Say those words loud and slowly...... Large Robotic Spider................. That sounds ***** exciting to me.....
- limon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12The shadows are too sharp. There is much more diffuse light in real life. Still, rendering this in real time is breathtaking.
- jgreene777, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11hmm... a shack image on imageshack...
- TehSuper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Yeah that grass is pretty bad.
- Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13For the shack picture, there seems to be very slight bloom effect and the fence thing is far too perfect to be realistic. That's all I can hold against the Crysis image. Amazing!
P.S. That, and the grass as omen as already stated. For the water, the clouds aren't diverse enough to seem truly realistic. - maiku, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I found it quite profound. Maybe our 'real life' is somebody else's engine that they're trying to perfect to match their 'hyper-real life'. Hmm...
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Just in case it goes over its bandwidth limit.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v502/Einhanderkiller/comparison018mx4df.jpg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Ahahahaha, God that comment just made me laugh out in "real life" that was hilarious,
Good job, it's not everyday I laugh out loud after reading a comment on the internet. - matthall28, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Holy crap that looks amazaing... Too bad my computer could never handle those graphics.... go into corner and cries...
- poipoipoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8i don't see any jiggly boobies in these screenshots!
- agbullet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8When people comment that the Mona Lisa looks amazingly enigmatic and lifelike, you're one of those people who'd point out that she's totally 2D and missing legs.
Right? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I saw Crysis when I went to E3. It looked absolutely phenomenal. The large robotic spider creature looked thrilling and incredible. I can attest to it. I saw it in HD on a wonderful monitor.
- MFoody, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9*****, I'm not saying the graphics aren't close to real but these stills don't have anything to do with the uncanny valley. The uncanny valley applies to people. No one talked about the uncanny valley with regard to the Jurassic Park dinosaurs. The article linked even says as much. The uncanny valley does not apply to scenery.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12http://www.*****.com/
- LexisNexis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Odweaver, you correct him then go on and applaud the STEAM engine.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -8/+16THAT'S AMAZING!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I can tell, obviously, but man, that's pretty damn close. That E3 trailer was spectacular.
Now if only we could get some info on the DX10 cards... - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Given the likely required specs, those screen shots probably qualify as real time video on my computer.
- sunra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's amazing that I can read the link, read the summary and read the discussion and still have now clue what CRYSIS is, aside from the fact that it renders pretty pictures.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Correct me if I'm wrong tominator, but couldn't the old Xbox handle Doom 3 the same as a high end PC? I do agree that Xbox 360 games do have a tendency to appear too sharp but calling their graphics "crap" is ignorance pure and simple.
No one here cares to hear about you bragging about your computer and putting down other systems. There are other forums for that sort of self-congradulatory autofelatio, we're discussing the Crysis engine here. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6However, it will be a post-apocalyptic Earth with everything from cannibal zombies, cyborg mutants, alien invasions, pirates, and ninjas, to disco-dancing naked Elves with unnaturally large breasts.
Man finally achieves the power to create a virtual utopia, and this is what he comes up with. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Can your mum not read? :P
- reaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6hahah
crytek made farcry buddy. it was one of the best looking pc game around when hl2 came out. - Subcranium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm tired of the word "amazing." Everything is so "amazing" lately I'm out of breath.
