- ursername180, on 10/12/2007, -0/+52Instant messanger? Sorry, but it takes ages for me to type something in on the Wii's keyboard that appears on the screen. If, however they made a keyboard that you can sit on your lap and type stuff in with, then I'll be happy.
- coldfusion055, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40***** Aim. I want WiiGaim.
- dcmiltown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Pretty much everyone I know uses AIM. I think it's still a pretty popular platfrom. I use Meebo too, but ichat and AIM work great together.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"finally" ?
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Cool, now all I need is friends to chat with, oh and a Wii :(
- dtd00d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@corevette
1) AOL runs AIM (hence the acronym of an acronym).
Why would they steal your pw when they're the people you signed up to? - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Why would anyone want the password to my AIM? They going to make fun of my friends while pretending to be me? Honestly, if they do steal it what is the worst that could happen?
- Merrick178, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You forget about the WiiBoard. You can type on it in your WiiHouse on your WiiCouch through your WiiTv. Get with the program.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Lets hope that the USB in the back supports this. Maybe even Bluetooth. Well, either or, I hope we can rely on HomeBrew to allow such peripherals.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Speaking of which, who's up to the challenge of making an app for the PC that uses handwriting recognition. And I mean using accelerometer data, not the sensor bar data (as that wold be the same as using the mouse basically...)
- stosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Except it won't work well because you don't have a keyboard...
- Merrick178, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If they really want to claim right to me messaging my friend "Hey noob wut up lol jp" then let 'em.
- Megatog615, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6prgmctan: Huge memory usage for the ***** loss. Gaim for the supreme win.
- lazyrussian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5actually I have a kid sister and brother and their generation uses MSN...god knows why.....
Gaim or Google Talk is the way it's done. - Merrick178, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why would I want to AIM my Wii?
- soulpiercer7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6AIM and AOL aren't the same thing. AIM is a standalone instant messaging client, AOL is a pile of ***** that calls itself an Internet browser. big difference.
I use Trillian which connects to the AIM, MSN, ICQ, and Yahoo networks so I can talk to people on all 4. Almost everybody i know uses AIM though. It's a solid Instant messaging client.
I've never tried Meebo on the Wii but it's the first thing that came to mind when I saw this article. It's what I use whenever I'm away from home. It works great.
I dunno how useful this will be but I wish them luck. I'd still rather See it on the DS... - garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Good lord. Why ruin a Wii with AIM? :
- devnill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Meebo doesnt work on my wii; it cant even sign in
- thecheatah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is will as useful as my wii browser...
Primarily to show off to people... - slickrate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"finally coming to the Wii"?
Who was waiting for this? - evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4My thoughts too. I mean, wow, the headline says "finally"... it's like they've been waiting for it. I know I haven't been.
- Renton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5"3) People walking in the room can see your conversation"
Same with a computer. - muikano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2killer app would be a bluetooth microphone dongle
- Shaymus22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Finally? I'll be putting "finally" in the headline when I post the news that AOL has "finally" gone out of business
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Meebo dosnt work for me on the Wii either, the keyboard pops up for a second then falls away
Ive had limited success using others like messengerFX.com though.
Thought thats only for MSN, sorry AIM users! - calebrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.ebuddy.com/mobile/aim.php works just fine.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What's with all the AIM-hate?
It's not AOL's fault that you have no friends to talk to. - Mattman723, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't wait until my Wii has AIM; I'm sick of cleaning up the mess!
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wii-IRC?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2woot!! finally something to do on the wii after you finish zelda and wait a year for another good exclusive.
- sphetr2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1meebo doesn't work, use ebuddy.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1being powerpc based, the wii might benefit from an embedded adium
- elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Too bad AIM is a total piece of *****. They claim right to any content distributed over their chat network.
- DanielNielsen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just posrt Adium for god sake.
- ninephoenixes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm, when the Wii browser first came out, I tried AIM on PSP with it and it worked
So uh, am I missing something here? Is this just gonna be layout optimization?
IRC on Wii plz. I'd rather have that. - AlphaPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm betting Bluetooth support, why connect wires anymore when there are plenty of Bluetooth keyboards.
- BattousaiSSj4, on 02/28/2008, -0/+0You Can USE A Keyboard on the Wii :) USB keyboards Plug into the back *where there is USB ports* im Doing it With a Ps2 Controller/keyboard but usb keyboards are workable
- Xyc0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0lawlz
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"why connect wires anymore when there are plenty of Bluetooth keyboards."
There are? Have you actually looked for one? Most of them are fold-ups for PDAs, and the ones that aren't are giant aircraft-carrier-sized affairs that defeat the purpose of a tidy wireless desk by taking up most of it.
The only reasonably sized one is the Apple, which by all accounts is a piece of *****.
If anyone knows of an exception, please enlighten us. - primehifi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Sure to be used by 1, maybe 2 people.
- prgmctan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0ok, how about wiiTrillianAstra? I heard they patched up a lot of the leaks xD
- Megatog615, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2lazyrussian: Because it's the ***** that's preinstalled on the ***** OS called "Windows".
- Renton, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I've been using my wii to send messages to my friends on the message board since December, and now I can type about 30wpm. It has a learning curve just like a keyboard, you just need to use it a lot to get used to it.
- Samsong, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Really? Works well on mine...
- prgmctan, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7wiiTrillian ftw
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Buried as stupid and useless.
- Four20, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7but, what about meebo?
- corevette, on 10/12/2007, -13/+31) These guys can steal your password
-and AOL can't?
2) Typing will be slow
-better than no typing at all...can't be much slower than normal texting
3) People walking in the room can see your conversation
-and....when does this not happen? - Crimsonsoul343, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2my friend meebo doesnt work on the Wii, but im not sure if it works for anyone else
- DanBru, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1I wanted AIM for the DS, but once the homebrew came out, I used it for like 2 minutes.
A few things I see wrong
1) These guys can steal your password
2) Typing will be slow
3) People walking in the room can see your conversation -
