should have been rated KO - Koreans Only - lukegravitt, on 10/10/2008, -8/+74These aren't very funny.
- bdubatdi, on 10/10/2008, -0/+52ive got a strict policy -- if your voice is that of a child then you are muted
- brsteve88, on 10/10/2008, -4/+49It wasn't frat guys that destroyed the Halo experience. It was little middle school douchebags thinking that getting a headshot makes up for the fact that they have a backpack with the teletubbies on it and routinely get shoved into lockers.
- Drahkar, on 10/10/2008, -0/+23The author was under the impression that Starcraft was an MMO. Just another blogger trying to use a quick joke to spur traffic without properly researching the material. I like a good joke as much as the next person, but if you are going to make one, at least get your facts right.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2008, -0/+20"Mass Effect gets an M rating for fictional alien violence, but Call of Duty doesn't?"
Why would Call of Duty get an M rating for fictional alien violence? - inactive, on 10/10/2008, -1/+20They need one "CM"
Warning! crap made from a movie.
to go with the movie rating "CG"
Warning! crap made from a game. - sugarazor, on 10/10/2008, -1/+18I don't think a parent is stupid for buying their 13 year old Gears of War. Seriously, is Gears of War really THAT bad of a game? Yeah, it's violent, but isn't that what being a teenage boy is all about? Watching movies and playing video games loaded with blood and gore? Grand Theft Auto, I can see a case for - it's loaded with sexuality and other adult content, but Gears of War is just war against aliens, big deal.
- jfdolier, on 10/10/2008, -0/+16Buried for leaving out BMXXX from the list of games with a Pervert rating.
- Bitties, on 10/10/2008, -0/+12They need another one category, FUBA, Future Uwe Bowell Abortion
- rhinofinger, on 10/10/2008, -0/+12But... Goldeneye!
- namelessXsilent, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1250 cent gets his own rating? For 2 games? One of which has been canceled.
- Iggins, on 10/10/2008, -0/+11I give this article a "WI" for "waste of internet"
- jonshipman, on 10/10/2008, -0/+11Those are actually Frat Guys.
- Whaines, on 10/10/2008, -0/+9I take it a step further and hit "Avoid Player" with the disruptive voice option.
- WhiteMike87, on 10/10/2008, -1/+10There are always exceptions. Even though Perfect Dark was better.
- Scrappy1850, on 10/10/2008, -0/+8i know mature 15 year olds that can handle an M game.
- 2Bnor2B, on 10/10/2008, -0/+8How about a big standardized symbol for DRM on the front of game packages. Sort of like the surgeon general warning on cigarettes.
"WARNING: This package contains DRM that can intrusively integrate itself into your operating system. It can expose your system to external attacks, scan your files, report computer information to third parties and prevent the operation and functioning of various diagnostic tools. Parents are warned that if this is installed on your computer, these processes will continue to function even after the game is removed." - OMGNinjas, on 10/10/2008, -1/+8Haven't read an article quite so smug in its own douchbaggery for some time.
- gospe1337, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6If you buy either 50 cent game, you're a guaranteed failure.
- elie195, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6I don't know about the Halo "Frat Douchebag" rating.. I mean, have you ever played the game with a headset? It's all 12 year old kids screaming "i just pwnd ur ass faaaaag."
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -1/+6P - Pervert is for Japanese games. All of them. Screw Japanophile.
I also support Future Slut, that really needs to be there. - latova, on 10/10/2008, -0/+5Yeah I saw that too and I thought what an idiot. Having a 30 minute starcraft match against your friends every once in a while hardly constitutes as having no life. Playing WoW from dawn till dusk, now that's a totally different boat.
- BonsaiKitt3n, on 10/10/2008, -1/+6how's Delta Chi this year? Good parties?
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -3/+8No Digg. They talked ***** about Starcraft.
- aereaus, on 10/10/2008, -0/+5There shouldn't be ratings period! Or for that matter any form of censorship. If parents wish to censor then they should do it, it's not up to or should not be the right of any government to tell parents or society what they can or can't watch/see/play.
It's lazy parents and religious zealots that want this crap to continue. As a parent, I take the time to understand what my kids are doing. I don't want my government doing it for me. - Scrappy1850, on 10/10/2008, -1/+6go back to school
- buughost, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4Should have added a "BB" - Beware of Brazilians for games like Lineage 2, and free online games.
- Dauntless1, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4And if they can, great. But most can't, and the ratings are there so that moronic parents can't come back at the game companies later with "Well, you didn't warn me!".
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -1/+5He's probably Tri Lam.
- AdamMPkins, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4A retired person might say the same to anyone younger than them. Get off your high horse.
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -3/+7Back to the real world:
The name of the ratings are idiotic.
Teen, mature etc wtf.
12, 15, 18; much bloody simpler.
Also no censorship, ever. - graahBrains, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4"S" for shovelware
- gallito89, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3ESRB is such a useless body, their ratings can be so sporadic such as MMO's getting M for violence? Give me a break.
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4We're not interested in the fact that you're illiterate.
- Rogue7, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3I was just gonna say that. thank you
- jonshipman, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3Nazis are aliens.
duh. - Dauntless1, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2And it's ignorant parents who think that the rating system is there to protect anyone but the game company.
- gabbagabba, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2They shouldn't exist in the first place
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -1/+3Yeah, plus I bought Neverwinter Nights, I've played WoW, and have no desire to play either of them again.
- Checkerd, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2"C" for cookie.
That's good enough for me. - styromaniac, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1My game rating suggestion: R for Rad
The reason I'd strongly suggest this rating is that nobody says the word anymore, which would make it offensive to "badassers" and it would definitely stand for games that have mentally retarded violence like the Kill Bill movie series. Don't get me wrong though, I do like game violence and gore when they're in its right place, but I find it distracting when one enemy after another bleeds like a lawn sprinkler. The rating also smacks the badass-stereotype games in the face when they use the generic protagonist voice acting or overuse the color brown if there's any color in the game at all.
Anyone who hates the Mario games only because there's no weapons or violence is truly the right candidate to be offended and I hope that all such douche bags feel that way.
A few violent and gory games I've played and loved are RE4-heads exploding from head shots and a wide variety of enemies and ways that they can kill you are awesome, and Gears of War- too gray, but badass in every proper respect with humor on the side. - doshindude, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Guitar Hero is NOT a frat douchebag game...that's more like tony hawk.
- styromaniac, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Also, I was going to add Manhunt 2 as an example of a badass stereotype game because of its excesive violence without any substance to the game at all.
- zaferk, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1i play l2 and...this..is...too ..scary..and true
- JulyZerg, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Same. If it wasn't for that, I would've!
- BabyWookie, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Umm... I see nothing wrong with letting a 13 year old play Gears of War.
- zaferk, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1I'll drink to that
- zaferk, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1What is thise side-boob in mass effect they speak of? pics would be appreciated
- namelessXsilent, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1it doesn't matter what/who its against. these are probably the same parents that won't let there son/daughter watch a R rated movie. Parents are just not educated on video game ratings or just don't care and think its just a "game" and its not as bad as watching "real" people do the same things on film.
I have a 12 year old autistic cousin who plays GTA4 and asks me what i do in the game... that just shows that parents are not educated enough on this rating system which i think is garbage.
Forget parents knowing about the ratings.... make it as strict as buying beer or liquor, you don't see parents buying that for their 12 year old sons/daughter, because they know that's no good for them! -
