It's $399.94 for the Core ($299.99 + $99.95), or $499.94 for the Premium.
I've hated Sony since they pwned my beloved DreamCast, and I'm Xbox all the way, but when people crunch numbers and features, why does everyone miss this bit=
Xbox 360 Premium, Wi-Fi adapter, HD-DVD = $700
PS3 (includes Wi-Fi and Blu-Ray) = $600
The issue with the PS3 isn't the price, it's that they included crap that most consumers don't want (Blu-Ray drive), whereas Microsoft jettisoned the HD-DVD drive for the vast majority of consumers who would rather not have one. For that, I thank them. - 1021, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9holycowaztm is bad. He did the same thing on all of his other comments: http://digg.com/users/holycowaztm/news/commented
ban/block him please. - ROFLance, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/12/img005kz8.jpg
It was a typo, and nobody can get a best buy to give them a price match. AKA bs. - jblade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Great job on not linking to the retailer
- womfalcs7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Modified
It's not just wifi, it's also 40 GB more in HDD storage, and HDMI capabilities. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You shouldn't have been dugg down.
- asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That price is over nine thousand... cents!!!
No digg until we can clear up whether or not this is BS. I'm guessing it's crap, but someone managed to dupe a manager at Best Buy into matching the price (it's not that hard). Besides, by the time I can easily rent HD-DVD movies and copy them to blank HD-DVDs, the player won't cost more than $99 anyway. - julian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I bought my Xbox 360 Premium $199.95 at MicroCenter in Tustin CA ($399.99 - $100.00 MIR - $100.00 Visa application Bonus = $199.99) AND did a pricematch at Best Buy for HD DVD drive for $99.95
Thats a total of $299.90 for Xbox 360 PREMIUM and HD DVD drive ...... I am soooo happy..... ;)
of course plus sales tax. - Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5i agree, you were right, I have a PS3 and love it, but I like to head over to my buddies house to play a little Halo 2 on 360!
and most people (except you who must live in the 90's) have wireless. i can drive down the road with my laptop and catch signals everywere - Dark_Lord, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You still don't understand, its a core ($300) + the HD DVD Addon for $99 = $398
And in case you can't do basic math, $399 is LESS then $500
And if you wanted to go further, the $399 bundle with hard drive + $ 99 making it the same at $498 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Buried as inaccurate
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's just you.
- doubleblack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Almost looks fake, and because it does the retailer will take a look at who's ad it is, see that it's for a SMALL LA store...and tell you to go back too your Mommy...
- mvanhorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"I didn't say ONE thing bias in my comment. Not one thing. If you want Ill take a pic of my 360 and a little sign with my handle and a big ***** you to the people digging me down." - Dominatus
I didn't know getting dugg down could make people so emotional. - Dominatus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you don't want to include the wifi, then you have to compare the 500 dollar PS3 with the 400 dollar xbox. If you want to use the 600 dollar number, then you need to factor in wifi, cause thats what it adds.
@ womfalcs, the 500 dollar PS3 has a HDMI - nicasso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best Buy on Maryland Pkwy in Las Vegas let me buy 3 without any problems. I was even congratulated on finding the good deal. Thanks Digg!
- PopeAmadeus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Comp USA totally price matched. I went in, told them it was a local retailer and they matched it. SWEEEt
- freonchill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i tried to get something price matched last week @ circuit city
they checked the webpage of best buy and said ok, as long as they have it in stock they will price match it
and then said they wouldnt b/c the webpage says its out of stock... even best buy employees say that their webpage is about 50% accurate for whats in stock and what isnt...
they said they would get in trouble if they "called to verify"
WTF is up w/ price matching these days?
best buy wont match "buy one get one free" or "buy two get one free"
and circuit city wont match if no stock, but wont allow to call to verify stock - underwearman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think this is real. damn i had gotten one of those flyers in placed in my car windown about a week ago and i tossed it. i live in LA

First off, 802.11b is 11mbps. 802.11g (which is what is in both the 360 & PS3) is capable of speeds up to 54mbps. The best internet connection most people can get is around 5mbps (unless you are one of the lucky ones who can get the Verizon FIOS) So 802.11b or g is fine for gaming since it is still faster than you Internet connection. And I have never seen any latency issues with wireless vs wired. The only reason you need wireless faster than your Internet connection is for accessing or streaming content between networked machines. I stream RSS Video Podcasts to my 360, which is connected through wireless, using TVersity.
And if you honestly think that flash media will be cheaper than optical, you are in for a surprise. Flash might be able to take over the hard drive market because of its faster read/write capabilities, but what do you WRITE to your movie? Not a damn thing.
Your comment was buried due to you being a dumbass - audioslavery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How did you guys print the ad? Full page?
- celeronxl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Come now, it's $99.95, which for most intents and purposes is $100, not $99. Don't play into the retailer's psychological marketing. It's not really less than $100.
The site also describes it as "$99.00," which is wrong on all accounts. - womfalcs7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ Dominatus
Sorry, I was thinking card reader. - disdain_se7en, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"If you don't want to include the wifi, then you have to compare the 500 dollar PS3 with the 400 dollar xbox. If you want to use the 600 dollar number, then you need to factor in wifi, cause thats what it adds."
Youre forgetting that the $500 model has a 20 gig hard drive while the $600 model has 60 gigs. Not to mention HDMI support on the $600 one. Im thinking there might be more than just that but I think for $100 thats a pretty damn good upgrade. Look at the 360, $100 is the difference between a hard drive or none at all.
Moving on...
I think all the fanboy nonsense is rediculous. Not accusing anybody of it. Who cares what people spend their money on as long as they enjoy their investment? I get made fun of a lot for playing Uno on my 360. I get a lot of satisfaction out of the 360, just as Im sure I will out of the Wii and the PS3 when I buy those.
Also, why compare the PS3 and the 360 at this point? Its useless! Think about how different the 360 was a year ago compared to now. I would have never dreamed of on demand movies and tv! I know that kind of service is not really gaming related, but its still a big step. Its all about having options these days. Im very confident that over time the PS3 will evolve into something much better than it is now. There are still plenty of games that havent even come out yet. Give these things time people.
Whoops, got a little carried away. I just see a lot of talk of how the PS3 is flopping and I think people need to be patient and give it a chance. Im not a "sony fanboy", I just find ways to enjoy all the systems. - mustafya, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2At every retail store I've worked at we would look at this and laugh in your face.
- dumpling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i wish i had seen this 4 hours ago. i JUUUUUUST bought the add-on for my 360 at best buy. piss.
- notninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1CompUsa will have them i work for them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Somebody needs to check if Walmart or Best Buy will possibly match this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well obviously - the retailer's only reason to price match is to stop you taking your custom elsewhere. If it's not in stock at the other store then you're not going to get it there either, so why should they sell it to you cheap?
Same goes for distance - if the retailer advertising it is quite far away then you're not likely to go there just to pick it up so the retailer you want to price match won't think they'll lose a sale. - audioslavery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anyone bothered to try this anywhere but Best Buy?
- Dominatus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Whats "to get" is that he was comparing the CORE xbox 360 with the PREMIUM PS3.
Now, your second comparison with the premium xbox being the same at 500 is correct. Except that's using this typo'd ad. Now use the real price and an equivalent system to a 500 dollar PS3 for both gaming and hd movies is MORE money.
I've said it before, Ill say it again. For just gaming, xbox is cheaper (which is why I own one) if you want gaming AND hd movies, and assuming you don't want the gimp'd xbox, PS3 is cheaper. - glalatdotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Circut Cuity told me it had to be a LOCAL competitor and they had to have the item in stock.
- audioslavery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does Wal Mart Price match?
I am going to try to doctor this photo accordingly and put it on some flimsy "ad-style" paper. - drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Video of Tzar bomba
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/313874/50_megaton_a_bomb/ - illustrick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1first off, wi-fi gaming= never going to happen. not until they can get like 3-4 mbps, so xbox wi-fi adapter= worthless
sony's included adapter = worthless, but they make you pay for it. the only thing it is good for, is like a firmware update, or sending messages. nothing else. why can't people just admit that micro$oft got it right this time, and didn't inclube everything in one bundle, true gamers know wifi is crap for online gaming, and who wants to buy a next gen dvdd drive, when in the next 10 years dvds will be gone, have any of you heard of flash drives? well that is where everything is going to end up going, cause its cheap and efficent. with the price dropping of drives everyday. solid state storage is where its at. - trouble916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like most of the stores were "out" of them when people called on them to pony up. I'm getting kind of sick of these "limit 3 per store" bait & switch scams... you're a Best Buy or Walmart in a major city and you only have 3 of something hundreds of people are going to want at that price.....
- anfzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Got Walmart to price match today...they said they needed to call and see if the sale was still going on, so I gave them my wife's cell phone number and she just answered as Game Play and said they had them for $99. Good luck.
http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/4388/hddvdwalmartqg0.jpg - Athens101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well I will end up buying the xbox HD-DVD drive for my Linux box the second we get a player. Hell, it was smart move on the part of MS to make these things (just work) with windows. 200+$ HD-DVD upgrade for media center and with some luck my MythTV box soon.
- shane, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Almost looks fake.
- Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3@ Lyph4
except this tread is about HD drives,so STFU looser - BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1@Raftysworld
It is probably the fact he said you need a hard drive to have an HD movie work on the 360. The only thing the hard drive would enable on the 360 is setting a bookmark in the movie. You can watch HD movies with a 360 and the attachment for 500 dollars people (300 core+200).
If we really want to do what he is doing we would all bring up the 360's RAM configuration and GPU being superior to the PS3's. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Exactly how many retail stores have you worked at?
- Dominatus, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4It says a lot about digg that my comment was dugg down. Bravo.
Btw, I own an xbox 360 and have no plans on buying a PS3. I said nothing inaccurate or bias in my post, merely facts. - RG13, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5Is it just me or is this still not exciting?
Even if i had the money for the X360, i wouldnt spend an additional 100$ (or 200$) for a HD-DVD adapter-i just dont watch that many movies to care that much about the quality - Dominatus, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5Even if you wanted to compare the core xbox 360 with HD-DVD it's STILL unfair to compare it to the 600 dollar PS3, you'd have to compare it with the 500 dollar PS3, and then they are the exact same price, and the PS3 comes with a harddrive in that case.
I AM NOT A PS3 FANBOY. I OWN A 360.
Jesus people. I didn't say ONE thing bias in my comment. Not one thing. If you want Ill take a pic of my 360 and a little sign with my handle and a big ***** you to the people digging me down. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+10Take that $600 Blu-Ray!! Xbox + HDDVD = $400!!
- modifiedbears, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I love you idiots that include the $100 for wifi. As if this was necessary when the majority of people have wired home networks.
