- MelekTawus, on 01/02/2009, -0/+34Hah! They got tricked by Household Hacker on #2! Anyone with basic electronic knowledge would know that there is no way Household Hacker's method would do anything. That's the same guy who made a joke video on how to charge an iPod with an onion and some Gatorade and how to cook a turkey with some DVD-Rs and a lightbulb.

Dancing pizza with a double neck guitar, there's no way that THAT isn't the best gh hack - doshindude, on 01/02/2009, -0/+22the double bass hack in RB is not even worth mentioning because it doesn't really help (you need to have the other pedal all the way up for the other to work). There's an accessory you can buy that's ~$30 that is a true stereo splitter that will allow one pedal down while the other is in use:
http://omegapedal.com/twinrocker/index.html - ThugThrasher, on 01/03/2009, -1/+12I assume you're playing on easy?
Although it's not perfect, these games usually will get it fairly close to the proper phrasing on the expert difficulty.
I also play guitar. And bass. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the GAME. My ability to play said instruments DOES help me play the game, but you have to understand that it's a rhythm game and the point is NOT to pretend to be playing exactly what you hear, the point is to play the rhythm the game tells you to WHEN it tells you to. - WhoDoneIt, on 01/03/2009, -1/+9I'd hate to see you playing a war simulation game. Cheater. Go out and kill some real people.
Get over the comments about it not being a real guitar. We get it. That is why it's called a game.
You know. I got all pissed up over New Years and hopped on Wii Ski really thinking that I was going to go downhill. When I fell off the board I really hurt myself because I thought I would be landing in a real fresh patch of snow.
/sarcasm - MelekTawus, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7It is, and Popular Mechanics fell for it. Awesome.
- WhoDoneIt, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6Do you suggest to your friends that they should go out and really steal cars and run people over when they play GTA games?
- Skishy101, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5I'll take a hack that ACTUALLY UNLOCKS all the songs from the beginning. I pre-ordered GH:WT and got the code to unlock all the songs, but it didn't. I got about 3/4 of the songs with a bunch still needing to be unlocked. For some reason they felt it necessary to omit songs that needed to be unlocked in gigs. Rather annoying >_>
- Hartley1942, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Household Hacker F T L.
But other than that, awesome. - mattyG, on 01/03/2009, -6/+10you guys are so annoying, seriously. Get over it.
- Ub3rg33k, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4The point isn't laziness, its to put together setlists using songs from GH3 and GH:WT. Since you can set up to 6 in a row, it makes head to head matches more fun with a wider variety of stuff to play. I understand that it isn't likely without some kind of serious hack, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I guess mocking and down voting are all I get for being curious.
- alfrednonimous, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4wait, I thought the house hold hacker thing was a joke, a parody
- Ub3rg33k, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4I would be more interesting to be able to import my GH3 songs to GH:WT. Both games are the Wii version. Anyone have a hack for that?
- , on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Why did you get buried? That was cooler than everything on that list combined.
- orenthal, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4forget hacks, i would just love for my drums to work like they are supposed to.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4This should be on the list

The guy is a really good drummer to boot. - eraofk00l, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2So this is how engineering majors spend their free time...?
- AirRaven, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2We don't actually *care*. =\
Let them spend their time however they like. The quality of articles on Digg's not really been all that impacted by "Power Diggers" in the slightest- people come to Digg to *read*- not for an egalitarian social structure.
The chief factor in Digg's decline over the past few years has been the tsunami of politicised firebrands desperate to plug their "RON PAUL R3VOLUTION"/"HANG BUSH FOR WAR CRIMES"/"CLINTON FTL/OBAMAJESUS FTW" drivel.
If you ignore the Politics Category, the same quality of stuff's still there.
Which begs the question, why do you care?
They Digg more, they submit more. Of course they're going to ***** get to the front page more.
They don't RTFA before submitting? Nor do at least half of the commenters on just about every article that's ever been submitted.
Title sounds good? Digg up!
Title contains "Obama", "iPhone", "McCain t3h sux0rz", and "The Dark Knight"? Instant Digg.
You're railing against an unsolvable problem. The rest of the internet got over it years ago- grow a pair. - MelekTawus, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2The problem is with fretting. You can make it so that fretting a string closes a circuit, but how are you going to distinguish which fret the string was pressed against? You could make each of the first five frets a different circuit, but then you have to have some hardware that interprets which switch was closed and translates that to the correct button press. We're talking a lot of wires and logic circuits before any input gets to the controller. Household Hacker is funny because he takes half of a possible working idea, waves his hands and makes tech-y sounds that convince the ignorant that he knows what he's doing, and cuts straight to a faked working model that would never work for logically obvious reasons.
- Spor, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2The Texas A&M version of the "robot" is pretty cool. Watch the "Cliffs of Dover" video.
http://slashbot.wordpress.com/ - jazzguitar18, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3wow your a presumptuous ass hole, I'm just a college kid who plays some guitar.
Anyways, I was just commenting on the fact that a lot of these ideas are people trying to make it more realistic. I'm just saying guitar hero isn't like playing a real guitar by any means and that it would be awesome if they had a game that actually taught people how to play while doing it.
I realize it's a lot harder to learn guitar but with a game like guitar hero it could definitely be a fun way for people to learn to play or practice.
dick - Shadic, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2I'd imagine #5 (The real drum set for a controller) would be the most handy. You're getting audio feedback with what you're playing that way in a manner that's much more real than anything the game could provide.
Then again, that's assuming that they transposed all the songs to notes correctly, which I bet they did pretty well. - Medicamusic, on 01/02/2009, -1/+3Doesnt seem like its too far off though. Seems it would only work for the strumming, but not for the fret-pressing.
- orenthal, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2i would just love for my drums to respond when i hit the damn things....
- Druid72, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Uber Pwnage Speed
- Cubine, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Well it kind of kills the game anyhow because there ARE no frets, the different strings act as the frets.
- paradox4190, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2http://www.instructables.com/id/Guitar-Hero-Killsw ...
- ExRe, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Well, you probably could cook a turkey with a light bulb provided it gets to at least 160ish F, it would just take a long time...
- gamben0, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2LOL @ the double bass drummer's TV
- FlimBlimmer, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2Just wondering, in the third video, why does dude have socks wrapped over the drums? Is that to muffle the rubber thud you hear when hitting the drum? Does it really help that much?
- CLShortFuse, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1http://tinyurl.com/72ggng
- rabidmonk, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2Sodering iron?
- johnroth, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2But wrapping tin foil around the pic? Really? Would that really work?
- sinembarg0, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1or you could have the string be ground and the frets each be the button signal, so when the string is pressed against the fret, the button signal is grounded and it registers a button press. This would work just fine for the ps2 SG guitars, as they use a common ground. The 360 explorer and Les Paul don't and instead use more wires (8 instead of 6 IIRC) and some form of multiplexing.
- utvolmiles, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Great article wish i knew how to apply some of these hacks
- JakeW, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1That's different, that'll get you put in jail. Playing guitar, granted this is considering -most- cases, will not.
- merreborn, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1In reality, guitar strings don't always come in contact with just one fret.
- alfrednonimous, on 01/03/2009, -1/+1It is possible though, I worked out how but I don't have the right stuff to make it (guitar, controller, Xbox 360, etc.
- corbinat, on 01/03/2009, -0/+0I was just about to mention the same thing. That thing was awesome. Even cooler is that, being an electrical engineer student at A&M myself, I actually got to play against it.
- Ultimatem, on 01/03/2009, -0/+0pffft.
I charge my Ipod with an onion with some Gatorade every day.
because its sooooo pratical. - ExRe, on 01/02/2009, -7/+6130 diggs and 5 comments?
Oh ya, another "power user" who has a bunch of people automatically digg their stories. - lolupissed, on 01/02/2009, -11/+9Sh0rtstak: Since joining on September 10th you have averaged 160 diggs per day and your submissions have a 42% popular ratio. I am burying you for being a power digger and urge others to do the same.
- anachronaut, on 01/03/2009, -5/+2What would be the point of that, really? It's not like the GH3 songs contain any of the data that would let you play the extra stuff available in GH:WT -- you'd be stuck playing the same old songs on the guitar only, just in a new interface. Ehhh, why bother? Just put the bag of Cheetos down, get off your butt and stick the GH3 disc back in. Pro tip: drench the rest of the Cheetos with nacho cheese sauce before eating them to compensate for any lost calories.
- jazzguitar18, on 01/03/2009, -8/+4As if just playing guitar hero wasn't cheating enough..
I can't wait till they perfect this idea and it's actually teaching people how to REALLY play an instrument.
I actually play guitar and the only times I've played guitar hero they say I'm WRONG because I'll strum it when I hear the guitar being strummed but the game only wants me to hit one note for each like measure rather than using the correct phrasing of the guitar lead.
rock bands a great start though, you can play real drums and record your part which is awesome, I just can't wait till it's like that for guitar as well. Keyboard would be really easy I'm not sure why they haven't jumped on that yet. - ExRe, on 01/03/2009, -5/+1We get it, you spent a few years practicing guitar and now your maybe a little good at it, right?
Good for you, I spent that time learning something that would be actually beneficial to me and allow me to more easily get a better and higher paid job. What do you get from being able to play a guitar? That help you get a better job? - SuperTonic, on 01/03/2009, -7/+2For the first vid, the concept is kinda cool. BUT... Just get a REAL ***** GUITAR!
