- DirtyWorker, on 10/12/2007, -6/+288I've seen something like this before. I call hoax on this, as you can do that if you use an emulator and just slow down the game play. That's how many of the speed runs are done. Also seeing as no person is actually shown.
- Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+205Definately a fake, what kind of person takes the effort to make up some story about a girl becoming "autistic like", just to get youtube video views? I fail at understanding people.
- nathang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+160that deaf dumb blind kid sure plays a mean pinball
- sabster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+86yeah i'm thinking this is a hoax also. it sounds like a chain letter because at the end it says something along the lines of share this with as many people as you can.
- stewacide, on 10/12/2007, -3/+80fake
- runep, on 10/12/2007, -9/+67I agree, it's totally a hoax. I mean, a girl playing video games?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58that and it says "loaded Gradius 3.000" at the beginning was a big tip off LOL
- bromac, on 10/12/2007, -6/+63While I feel for the woman who made the video for her brain damage, it's not the same as autism.
No, Autists do not perform stupid human tricks on a daily basis like in Rainman. Yes, some portray some unique abilities, especially regarding data processing. My autistic brother is an expert at old TV's and can tell you if he met you for 30 seconds in 1985. The primary impairment of autism is the lack of social skills...basically the ability to relate to the real world. This is a spectrum, from minor social skill impairment to full on total non-communicative, which is very sad. It's frustrating to be behind a brick wall from the world. I know we thought my brother was deaf until he was 5, and that he'd hit me pretty much daily out of anger.
It doesn't mean you can beat Super Mario Bros 3 in 13 minutes or recite Pi to the 1000000000 decimal, although your brain may perform these tasks better if it's not worrying about social stimuli...different wiring essentially.
I'm guessing this video is submitted since we had that Genius girl on yesterday, who was not Autistic. Please stop falsely portraying this condition. I'll have to stop reading Digg for a while if we get a rash of Videos going "OMG He/She is Autistic!" and I have to make this same disambiguation. - Fhwqhgads, on 10/12/2007, -0/+54"the girls father refused that we show her in the video"
I can smell that ***** right through my computer monitor. - ZackScott, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46I think it is fake because girls don't play video games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46I call shenanigans, aka emulators and loads of save states, need I remind everyone of how everyone thought that one smb3 video was real and it turns out it was fake. this is the same I propose with the added "girl" to garner views
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43no it's fake because I can load an emulator and slow the framerate to 1/30 (one frame every 30 seconds) giving me loads of time to think EVERY move and then I make sure to have movie record function on beforehand, which plays back at full speed and eureka, I made a special no shoot dodge video myself and you are right, this is the Internet, don't be so gullible
- djruden, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44There was no girl in this video...
- Ganpachi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37rom hacks.
- MrFisty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34I think the person who wrote the title frames is the one who brained their damage.
As Homer says: "Ooo, he card reads good." - DarkStalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Fake, I remember seeing the original playthrough of the full video.
- Calypsoaf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Did she do it with Gradius 1 as well?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK0QD3yitxg - achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31how does she beat the bosses?
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Ha. The guy is trying to defend his story in the youtube comments section.
But he's only proving the fakeness of this video with this lame ass sob story: "I would like to tell Ashley (my friend's sister btw) that many people saw it, but she will ask for some numbers and ask to read the comments ... anyway" ....what kind of a loser makes up this stuff? - Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24@Misanthrope
It's not necessarily fake simply because it can be faked. But because it can be faked so easily it requires a little higher standard of proof for such an unusual claim.
Unfortunately there's a history of jackasses making up any old story just to get hits (who knows why) so people are pretty cynical. So if you want to overcome that cynicism and make a run-of-the-mill video extraordinary with an unusual backstory, then you need to present some support for the backstory, rather than just the run-of-the-mill video itself.
As of now, all the cynics (myself among them) have is a video that could be made by any one of us in an hour, and a remarkable story with no support at all. I'll be as excited as anyone once I know this isn't some 16-year-old jerking me around. - AdrianRice, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27Get this girl a Frogger catridge!
- Microdot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19jedi mind trick
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Brain damage does not make people autistic or autistic like.
That doesn't seem all that hard for someone that took the time to get good at that game. Getting through high levels in games like Tempest 2000 is far more impressive. - Blazekun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Actually I take this back, it's either an outdated TAS, or a custom TAS. Either was this is fake, and you can even see the emulators "Loaded Gradius 3.000"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I could edit this video with some text and say my pet Panda bear was playing while blindfolded and balancing on a unicycle.
- Shakermaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"A 6 year old girl has been brain damaged and made her autistic like."
Sounds like the submitter is all idiot like.
Learn to speak English...not Paris Hilton English. - GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I bet she's terrible at Operation.
- esaks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Give her Ikaruga. I want to see that!
- MidnightMartin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10LOL! Look what he says on YouTube when someone asks why the girl isn't in the video:
"Ashley's father refused that we show her in the video. For her age she's considered a genius. But don't expect her to do high level physics math soon. But I wouldn't be surprised to see her do some at age 10 or 11. Im pretty disapointed that not much people (35) saw this video... as I would like to tell Ashley (my friend's sister btw) that many people saw it, but she will ask for some numbers and ask to read the comments ... anyway"
Ahaha, sucker. Clearly lying his @$$ off... - bouche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9let's get this buried then folks. I've got my inaccurate vote in. how is this getting dugg anyway?
- hockeysk8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Anything on the internet that asks you to share with or send to everyone you know is 100% pure *****. Hasn't everybody who has an email account learnt that yet?
- zero5549, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9i wanna see her play gears of war without shooting ;)
- Rain-X, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Burried- Innacurate. I ain't we-todded.
- OmniMe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8FINALLY.. we have a worthy pilot to defeat Cats!
EVERY ZIG TAKE OFF !! - ostracize, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8OMG!
How the hell does this get 300+ diggs and make it to the front page?! Have all you diggers been sitting in a hole the last 5 years?! I wish I could bury this as inaccurate several times over! This is absolutely fake and was posted just to gain some youtube views. It's some guy cheating with an emulator wrapping the video in some BS story about a 6 year old girl who (by some amazing "miracle") gets "autistic-like". I should upload one of those Super Mario time attacks to youtube, claim it was done by a retarded spider monkey with no arms, and digg it just so I can make it to the front page. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7There is a 60/60 framerate readout in the lower left corner proving it was done on the Snes9x emulator. Holy ***** I can't imagine why nobody noticed it sooner.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Obviously a hoax -- not showing the girl is such a red flag. Game hoaxes should announce themselves as such in the headline, like this:
http://digg.com/videos_gaming/Cool_Hoax_from_the_Early_Days_of_LAN - jetjaguar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6#1. This game is Gradius 3, which is also made by Konami.
#2. The Gradius series began before Life Force (Salamander). - LilBoyLuver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well whoever made this was a master of deception and grammar.
- HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah, brain damage wouldn't suddenly make someone amazing with numbers, patterns, and reflexes. If it did, you see a lot more people hitting themselves with baseball bats. Autisim is caused during the development of the brain. It's just wired differently.
- trunk8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7So in theory, you just need to get in a car accident to be this good?
*speeds off into holiday traffic* - Fhwqhgads, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually that was level 5 with the fire and stuff. Each level has a space scene before it.
But yes the video can easily be faked with an emulator. - xigxag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So I was settling in for the night, thought I would check out the top-dugg stories of the day. To my surprise, I find a youtube video of someone recording gameplay from an emulator (which allows for slow-motion and save states) which some completely absurd storyline about an autistic-like 6 year old girl!
Although mostly every comment on this digg, speaks of how it's fake, or laughing at the ridiculousness of it all, it still has 1200+ diggs.
I ask, What has happened to the once glourious diggnation? - raid517, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10"Did she do it with Gradius 1 as well?"
Oh come on, that clearly was her sister playing the game with her teeth... - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Emulator or not anyone who's played Gradius 3 would know that in order to get the drones following the ship like that you would have to shoot. Not to mention at the end of the level you would definitely have o shoot the boss or you'd be there forever.
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah her parents set her up with an emulator and did a fraps on the screen giving that perfect top down view?
sounds completely believable... - CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5i think i will be calling shenanigans also
- mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No shooting? How did she score 197500 then?
- thedrizzle91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4so uh, if she doesn't shoot anybody how does she beat the bosses, and how is her score almost 200,000? gotta love fakes
- Iffrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yup ... i have seen people do these kind of things with emulators .. it just sucks because it takes you an hr to get 5 min worth of video..
