- kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20I suppose this is a response to the 5yr old and the sixaxis, the wiimote looks unnatural in comparison.
- jblade, on 10/12/2007, -19/+106I think he really was trying to say the wii mote was easier, being a counselor for several years, and around kids that age, none of them like anything "easy" if its "hard" its better. So I think what he meant was that it was easier to use is the bottom line. He just wanted to be proud that he could use such a "hard" tool.
- roar84, on 10/12/2007, -177/+13jblade: shut the hell up
- birkoph, on 10/12/2007, -75/+15Ask him if he like poo he'll most likely say yes.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -6/+58jblade, i got that impression too
roar84, quit being an ***** - roar84, on 10/12/2007, -83/+6i didnt mean to come off like that. But come on, "when a child says something is hard he really means it is easy?". Yeah and when a girl says no, she really means yes. Give me a break.
- Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35this is the review of the same 5 year old using the ps3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQDWNFJ7IhY&mode=related&search= - achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -8/+41Here's the vid of the same kid playing ps3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQDWNFJ7IhY
EDIT- I love you Nodren - elastikos, on 10/12/2007, -54/+8I thought all of the reviews for the Wii so far were done by 5 year olds, isn't that who it's made for?
- pwill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32@roar84:
You obviously never took a psychology or early development course in school. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24"this is the review of the same 5 year old using the ps3"
Ha, he didn't like it. - JesusFaction, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13this just raises more questions than answers
- aerospace, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18@jblade I think the kid was just overwhelmed by trying to play and having questions thrown at him at the same time. There he is, trying to win his game, that's where his mind was at. I also think his response that he liked the Wiimote because it was harder to use was actually him saying he liked the game he was playing at the time because it was harder than Ridge Racer [which he was playing earlier].
A 5 year old's brain can only handle so much input at one time, he's focused on trying to win, he's having fun, he hears a question about which one he likes better and why. When his first question and response don't make sense and the game he was playing earlier is mentioned to try to clarify, his brain is going to throw together the parts of the first question he understood, and the parts of the follow up question he understood, ie "which one [game] do you like better and why?" - ComputerSherpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Digg goes to Achoo for shorter URL.
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9FTV: "You like it because it's harder? Yes. You're crazy."
Wow, that "hardcore" mentality is developed at a young age. - dsmero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Shutup with all the stupid questions *****, and let me play.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Remember the turbo button" haha
Who else envies this kid right now?
I aggree, I think he was a little confused trying to play the game and answer at the same time. I know when I'm playing a game, my mind sort of goes on auto pilot when I'm talking to people. "Yes, no, whatever just shut up, i'm trying to concentrate here".
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -25/+58'Is this the PS3' ? That Kotaku editor should be ashamed of himself for having such an un-educated child. By that age he should be fervently defending his console/company of choice and slandering his father for liking a different one. :P
Anyway, pretty cool to watch, didn't really think of someone doing this . . Wii is almost out here in Aus, woot.- blofeld9999, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Is everyone's sarcasm / humor detector broken? estvir's first paragraph is clearly written in jest. Also note the happy face. :-)
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hmm, something's not quite right about one of these happy faces, an imposter I do detect.
- Leo55, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39Look at how hooked the boy is.
Cool.- Gunegune, on 10/12/2007, -3/+60And that's why the Wii will sell. "It's fun."
- roar84, on 10/12/2007, -73/+13of course he is hooked. The console was designed for 5 yr olds.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Yeah, "it's fun" is simple and to the point. That's all I want to know.
- nphp20, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15@ roar:
Dude, a five year old will have fun with anything so long as it's a video game. Have you ever seen little kids playing video games?
The Wii wasn't designed just for five year olds, it's a system for everyone. - Volatile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15nphp20:
Not to mention that there'll be a decent selection of M rated games for the Wii. It's not all for kids. - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3plus nintendo plans on spending 160 million dollars specifically targeting adults in the next 12 mounths. the ad campaign starts on wednesday.
theyd be wasting money if they didnt intend on catering to the mature demographic
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -9/+30You put the kid in front of a PS3 or 360 with the right game (you dont give a 5-year-old GoW or Resistance...) and he will say the same thing about that game.
Kids change their minds alot faster, they dont care what they play as long as they are playing it NOW.- Johnny1337h4x0r, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12If you listened to what the guy said, the kid played Ridge Racer with the Sixaxis controller. As far as I know from the available games, that's a very good comparison.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18and if you listened to what I said:
"Kids change their minds alot faster, they dont care what they play as long as they are playing it NOW." - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11But the kid said the SIXAXIS was easier.
- kennyonpar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I agree, kids dont really care just as long as they get it.
I also think Excite Truck is a little more kid friendly(also newbie friendly) than Ridge Racer. Come on, Ridge Racer is up to its seventh installment. The creators do not want to make the game too easy. - johnnintendofri, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3Ridge Racer?! What a LAME and pathetic game. Besides, its for the PSE! Scoff. I've got my copy of Wii Sports on pre order. It'll be better than Madden.
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Wii Sports on pre-order...how dumb are...sigh
- aaronnohalo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Scoff?
- Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This jackass does realize Wii Sports comes boxed, right?
And also, a scoff should always be implied, never written. An implied scoff is a work of literary majesty. A written scoff is a heavy-handed attempt to seem like an intellectual. - monkeymad2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@TheG2 johnnintendofri might be in japan where Wii sports isn't boxed.
That would make what he said make sense.. - PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When he was playing SIXAXIS, he said he liked the thumbsticks better.
- Dustyb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Funny kid.
- Cleanlyness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6to the poster, why is it "nice."?
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Leo55 is a NAMBLA member.
- Leo55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What else could i write in the desc area?
Its a video with a kid playing Wii for crying out loud. - Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol @ the closeted NAMBLA member.
- ZippidyDoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15What a noob
- madcow333, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Yea, a noob to life. Thats him!
This is noob advice.
- madcow333, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Yea, a noob to life. Thats him!
- datagod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Kid: I like this one because it is fun. Is this the PS3?
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Lucky kid.
- Sharkee, on 10/12/2007, -23/+7Finally, a review consistent with most of the Wii fanboy-dom here on Digg. Maybe you're not all fanboys, you're just 5 year olds.
- Volatile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Err...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadness_%28video_game%29 - bagboyrebel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://wii.ign.com/articles/701/701475p1.html
Nibris hopes to take full advantage of the Revolution controller. "Imagine driving away rats with a torch, throwing a rope (as a lasso) when you want to climb over the wall, or slitting the throat of a persecutor with a piece of glass... All of this with the help of the Revolution controller."
Yeah, slitting throats is for 5 year olds. - SpaceManSR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Volatile
Wow, that game sounds awesome. Black and white, visual Noir type style I'm assuming. It's awesome to know that developers are already jumping on board to try out new concepts for this new machine. Bring it on!
- Volatile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Err...
- insaneidiot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Haha, it just makes me wonder if the kid instinctively knew how to use the Wii controller, or if his dad (the editor) had to teach him how to use it. If he knew how without instruction, then Nintendo is definitely doing a good thing to gaming.
- swifty12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i bet he probably had to give him some instruction, but it was easier for him to grasp the concept. With last generation the controllers had a crap load of buttons with games where you have to press a lot of buttons to do different things, but especially with motion sensing controllers playing racing games there are two buttons, stop and go and then you move which way you want to go. That is why this kind of gaming will be appealing to young kids all the way up to your grandparents.
- JorgeGonzalez, on 10/12/2007, -36/+8I'd hit it.
- nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3CP
:O - MonoDede, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4PEDO.
LMFAO - blofeld9999, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Holy crap, Michael Jackson posts on digg.
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Michael?
- nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3CP
- Andrewc989, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24The fact that some of you diggers are arguing over whether this review is valid amazes me!
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I just want to know what the kid's affiliation is to either Nintendo or Sony, as he clearly shows a disdain for the 360. Hence, the validity of the review is called into question.
- solarisom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4That's a five-year-old who could make his parents proud. And yes, I won't lie, I am a Nintendo fanboy.
- ydt89, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4the way the description says "gave his 5 year-old son Wii to try out" makes it sound like the Wii is some sorta drug. haha.
- MonoDede, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3that was cute. especially when he said "because it's FUN"
- SniperAlf22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think it's interesting that we have a whole new generation of gamers who are the children of gamers. I've got two kids, and they're both very ardent gamers (a boy and a girl). I have no illusions that I am the inspiration for this behaviour. Now that the Nintendo Generation are having children who are old enough to play themselves, this will be a very interesting time we are now experiencing. Just a random thought.
- Jeifurie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I have wii envy from watchign a 5yo play with his wii :/
- colonelpanic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45 more days......
- ohgr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The bottom line to this video is: The Wii will be fun.
- Nikole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6omg that is the cutest thing ever....lucky kid
- stephenhope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He 's just a child
just for fun - Karted, on 10/12/2007, -21/+2This is exactly Wii's target audience 1-5 years. Lol @ ***** wii.
- Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5lol @ ***** comment
PS: No im not a nintendo fanboy. I game on all systems (except ps2/3)
- Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5lol @ ***** comment
- Zanneth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Sit a five-year-old in front of an Atari 2600 and he'll have hours of fun.
- F1234K, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Its a 5 year old playing a wii, what does that show us...nothing other then the wii is for kids.
this kid is not very smart either. - firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't know. Kids will say anything mindlessly. Would he say the same thing playing the PS3?
- Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Don't forget the turbo button"
Me: "Shut up, Dad! I'm trying to race here." - Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is a cute video. I know many of you think kids will have fun with anything electronic, but the truth is that things that are not both intuitive and engaging quickly loose their interest factor, not just for kids, but for adults as well. The Wii is the only console I've thought of gifting for family with kids and adults in mind because of this.
- magiic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't wait to test the Wii out on my five year old cousin. Mario Kart Double Dash was a debacle he just couldn't get the controls down. The true Wii test will come when I get the console and have him over.
- fabiolover2002, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't get enough of comments left on youtube:
"i feel sorry for all you newbs, acording to CNET and PC MAGAZINE, sony waS rated the wort company of 2006, you seem to forget that Microsoft dominates the computer OS industry, and it WILL dominate the console industry! Also, when the xboX portable comes out, thats doom spelled for Sony =)
BURN SONY, AND THEIR OVERPRICED $4,000 80' LCD's!"
These people remind me of a sticker on a truck I saw today that had Calvin peeing on a Chevy symbol. The subtitle was defending against little Ford boys, or something to that effect. It's like these fanboys would literally go to war for a certain company. (Except we all know Apple fanboys would win the war ;-) It just blows my mind that this is what matters in some people's lives. But I mean that's a good thing right? Who needs competition!? I trust companies like EA and Microsoft, to continually pump out quality products. Don't ya'll?- masterthiefster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"EA" and "quality" in the same sentence?
For every 1 good EA game there's 20 bad ones.
- masterthiefster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"EA" and "quality" in the same sentence?
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I thought the review was 5 year old. I was like... time travel?
- Unlimited, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Watched both videos without sound (no sound on this PC)
It looked like he had fun playing with both ^^.
... I would too if I had both ... - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Because it's fun"
This kid rocks. - LeafsScore, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1That seems just about right. What, that's the average demographic age for the wii anyway right?
- squirmalicious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry, I'm sure someone said it before, but... what, a STICK at Kotaku has a son???
Editing is your friend. :P - mrRB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love that because the kid liked the Wii, it's "kiddy", but because he didn't like the PS3, it's "too mature" for him. At least, that's what the commenters are saying.
- Sammy20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He looked bored...........must of been playing the xbox 360
- czartim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if you ask any 5 yer old if they like what they were doing and what they are doing better they'll say what they are doing =/
- EyeLike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Because It's Fun"... ... Nothing more to Say
- trek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh man... he almost got to 0!
too cute :D
