- mywhitenoise, on 05/30/2008, -1/+82More than anything they're screwing you with overpriced DLC.
- shadeOfGrey, on 05/30/2008, -7/+69Innovative way to increase website ad revenue: Split lists across multiple pages.
- kingmanic, on 05/31/2008, -6/+63Wii: They convinced me to buy 3 extra controllers and it's requisite peripheral for a console I never use. Convinced me that the passing interest my GF and my family had in it might make them gamers. Wrong on all counts.
PS3: Persuaded me that $600 for a console is okay, and I use it as a very nice PS2. Made me buy a 3rd controller to get rumble.
360: Convinced you that a 33% failure rate was okay and made you commit hours of free labor packing it, returning it, retrieving it, rinsing and repeating. I am on #2 (got money back later), My friend who bought a launch one is on #5 and he payed to have it fixed the 1st and 2nd time because at that point they were denying it was a hardware defect. On the 4th time he sold the old one to a friend to return and bought an elite, which then RROD'd recently. - mentallyinhell, on 05/30/2008, -4/+50It really just seems like the whole industry is slacking off and taking bribes. Too many industries and systems fall into this behavior once they're comfortable.
- SpectralSounds, on 05/30/2008, -3/+466: Release a buggy game and then patch it after the fact.
- Ubergoober3, on 05/31/2008, -1/+23Honestly, it's two pages and adblock plus is free. Cracked is a great site and deserves the money. Is it that hard to click one more time, or do you have a terrible connection and it takes too long to load the next page.
- Falldog, on 05/30/2008, -5/+27This is the ***** which passes for "innovative" these days? No wonder things are in a slump.
- YourTechSupport, on 05/31/2008, -0/+17If there's one industry that proves you CAN polish a turd and pretend it's cocaine....
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -0/+13They left out one of the worst: Product Activation.
- doshindude, on 05/30/2008, -2/+14cracked>you.
- KingWilson, on 05/30/2008, -1/+13easily forgivable
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -2/+14Nintendo 'convinced' you to buy wii and it's peripherals? Did they employ false advertising, or did you just make a stupid decision yourself? What a lame example.
I was also convinced, but i still play my wii, because it is fun to me. If we could go around blaming companies for selling us things we no longer find fun or interesting, then that would be idiotic wouldn't it? - Evolutuon, on 05/31/2008, -0/+11Then what exactly are you paying more for when you buy the Gold Edition?
- DeFex, on 05/31/2008, -1/+12#3 happens in real life every day, havent you ever bought a frozen pizza, fast food, gone on holiday in mexico, windows vista, american beer, and so on.
- LegacyR, on 05/30/2008, -1/+12I agree with the EA Sports part. As a PC gamer only gamer for years, I've been screwed with their monopolistic approach to sports titles. After their NFL deal, MLB signed with companies that no longer make PC titles. I played MVP Baseball 2005 until I bought my PS3.
- digitalarcanum, on 05/31/2008, -0/+10anyone remember the old days of gaming? where the entire game was contained on the cartridge or optical disk? a time before "online gaming" meant "let's make them pay more for the entire game!" those were the days. There's still free DLC to be had, but a huge variety of games have you buy parts of the game that you had bought already... Double dipping blows balls, which is why unless the game is a console exclusive, I won't buy it for a console.
- shadeOfGrey, on 05/31/2008, -1/+11I have a rare index finger cancer and it's incredibly painful to click.
- Paroparo, on 05/30/2008, -1/+10I'd digg you up and bury this submission for most sites, but Cracked has yet to seriously disappoint me.
- spatty, on 05/31/2008, -6/+151 un-innovative way i am screwing the gaming industry.
1. i download my games. - Arramol, on 05/31/2008, -0/+8And don't forget the ludicrously draconian copy protection.
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -0/+76: In-game ads in games that you've paid for.
- psg188, on 05/31/2008, -1/+8I know I'm a fanboy, so you don't have to point that out.
Just thought I'd mention that Valve does none of these things. :-) - lordtyros, on 05/30/2008, -5/+12Overpriced? If by that, you mean costing > $0, then yes. I remember back in the olden days when developers would release extra content for free as a means of extending your entertainment experience. Now that games are just like movies, they feel that games don't need replay value. You're paying $60 for a 10 hour event. Well, ***** that. I've never paid for extra content and I never will. As long as consoles tout such chicanery as a feature, I'll stick to my PC, thank you very much.
- peoplerstoopid, on 05/31/2008, -1/+7PCs do it too
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+6If they were real writers, they wouldn't be writing for Cracked.com.
- TheSabre, on 05/31/2008, -0/+6FTA: "There are lots of people online, that have to use teamwork to get anything done. Oh, one minor thing. There's a regular version of the game, and a "gold" version that isn't made of gold, but does have some extra guns available."
What is with Cracked.com's obsession with unnecessary commas? They don't, have to be, scattered through, the entire sentence, for no reason. - Gregus1032, on 05/31/2008, -0/+6As much as I dislike EA, it's not their fault they're the only official NFL game around. The NFL put the license up for bid. As much as anyone might dislike EA, you can't be mad at them for wanting to make money.
- Hayaru, on 05/31/2008, -1/+7Not as bad as the top 10 lists spread across 15+ pages.
- G20NYK, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6Or, not patch them at all- MLB 2k8, case in point. Buggy gameplay, frame rate issues, and nearly impossible to play online.
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -2/+7... Yet we still pay for this *****...

Imagine if all games followed these guidelines.... - dsm88, on 05/30/2008, -0/+5Agreed. This is the way that things will go with the current-generation consoles. I think that rushing games out then releasing a patch will cause a major reduction in the quality of future console games. That and 'micro-payments' as well.
- Chainheart, on 05/31/2008, -0/+5The list missed out on the massive fraud known as DirectX10

- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -1/+5"So how could EA overcome their competitor? By working extra hard to make sure their game was superior? By cutting the price? Don't be ridiculous! They just signed a deal with the NFL that would forbid anyone else from making those games."
Classic. I love America. - Ymeg, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4Oh, ... the edit...
well that's no fun. - Haoie, on 05/31/2008, -1/+5Slacking off. No better example than the Madden series [and most other sports genres].
- Hetman, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4Did you read the article? They stated that you do not have to pay extra for the weapons. You can unlock them. What they got wrong is that there will be no advantage to having the weapons. It will be like having a different skin on a gun. But it is still an ***** way to gain more profits.
- Soriven, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4Innovation and creativity in a sports game? When did that happen?
- PeanutCheeseBar, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4"Gamespot.com is one of the most popular gaming sites on the web"
Buried as inaccurate. - ace429k, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3it was COD2. most businesses want personal information, whether to document certain aspects or to put ppl in statistics so they know what to market. call it information overload. they want it all!! like a fat lady at
McDonalds whose inhaling her whopper and mowing down her nuggets. - Hetman, on 05/31/2008, -2/+5Lets see you must be over 30. Anyways I am 25 graduated from college. Have a nice job and everyone I work with in my age group still plays games. Even the ones that are married. "***** probably even more because they are married." Anyways get over it the times they are changing.
- Typhoon2009, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3The lawsuit happened way after the Rock Band guitar controversy. Speaking of the lawsuit... WTF Gibson? They were fine with it in the first 3 GH games, yet they suddenly flip out.
- mizike, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3Although I generally agree with you, I have some issues with the achievement system they're using for TF2. Basically the hardcore players get new (and generally better) weapons, that the casual players will have no hope of unlocking. For example, to get all the new medic weapons, you need to unlock 36 achievements; a fair number of them are next to impossible to achieve without "achievement farming"; playing specifically to get the achievements with teammates who are also playing for that purpose alone. People who are willing to grind away for hours on end have an advantage over those who just play casually, regardless of skill, as of the three unlockable weapons, two of them are so much better than the original that no one in their right mind would ever use the original version given the option.
It also turned the servers into a medic-fest (the day after they were released I played on a server where 8/10 players on my team were medics this was typical not an exception) and IMO, took the medic out of balance as they can now largely defend themselves as opposed to relying on their teammates to do so. I'm dreading the day the demoman achievements are released as, IMO, the demo is already over powered (as can be seen by the sheer number of demomen in any pub game) and it's going to be brutal playing on servers with 95% demomen....
What i'm basically trying to say is that although the DLC is free; making it difficult to access skews the game in favour of those who are willing to grind, and although it's not too noticeable now; when all 9 classes have been unlocked, someone purchasing the game on that day will be at a SIGNIFICANT disadvantage to those who have been grinding out the upgraded weapons, regardless of their skill....Personally I'm hoping they unlock all the weapons after a certain amount of time....say unlocking all the medic ones by default once the next set of class achievements are released....The way it is now basically has the effect of paying for DLC, it's just you have to pay through time and drudgery as opposed to hard cash... - Evocati, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3How about special editions? First they were annoying (yet sometimes cool) in DVDs now games. You buy a game and think you're set. Then a special edition comes out with more stuff. Worse yet is when they advertise something that is only available in the special edition but don't make that clear. Looking at you EA.
- hakamanakus, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3More like a maid that tells you she'll work for $15 a month, as long as you just sign the agreement that you're OK with her peeking at your drawers.
EDIT: clothes drawers. The ones you put clothes in. - inactive, on 05/31/2008, -0/+2the shovelware/decent game ratio is actually one of the worst since the ps2, which has way more shovelware.
- wildmXranat, on 05/31/2008, -0/+2Yes, they do play 'Rob the Bank' with your pockets. Surprising that, there was no mention in the article about how to circumvent this.
How about; Just Don't Buy The Game. Support other developers that respect good business practices. - Dorian822, on 05/31/2008, -0/+2XBox and it's Microsoft Points are the biggest screwjob as well. Fifty dollars for 4000 pts. Seems to make sense in some disturbing numerical confusion where you believe that points are "goods" of some sort. In reality you're paying for something you can buy for $10 dollars on a multi-game pack. Its the equivalent in my mind to bleeding someone, catching as many drops as they can just before they run dry. Then, let them heal up, get more of their blood, and repeat. You too, Nintendo! I remember some rumor about how we'd all be able to access Nintendo's ENTIRE library of games, free. Made the Wii seem like the miracle machine. Ugh.
- RabidFurby, on 05/31/2008, -0/+2I find it hard to believe anyone thought Call of Duty for 360 was going to look THAT good, or thought it was actual gameplay footage. That's just ignorant if you ask me.
