- Lowenfels, on 11/04/2009, -0/+29I thought a blister on my thumb was pretty extreme...I was wrong.
- JoeHague, on 11/05/2009, -2/+21Watching that made me totally disgusted.
His mother(if she can even be called that), is so absorbed in herself, that she must explain how inconvenienced she is to see her own son.
His friend(if she can even be called that), seems to want be the focal point of his life. Even though she has no interest in him, she needs to prove to herself that she has more to offer to a young man than video games, but without actually offering him anything.
His mother doesn't want to be his mother. His girlfriend doesn't want to be his girlfriend. Yet, neither has any qualms about questioning his sanity.
The most egregious part for me though, has to be the so called psychologist. He encourages Peter's friends and family to issue ultimatums and has the audacity to suggest spending time, isolated, with legitimate addict, in the wilderness , will help Peter get in touch with reality .
Peter needs to learn the lessons his father never did. He needs to stop allowing himself to be domineered by women. - Pmarcano24, on 11/04/2009, -1/+18Cortana or girlfriend??.......hmmmm
- mntnbkr7, on 11/05/2009, -0/+14Cortana.
- Sabz5150, on 11/05/2009, -0/+14Anyone who says "but it doesn't take a psychiatrist to know something is wrong when a guy screams and flips off a cartoon avatar" has *NEVER* played Duck Hunt.
- mkriss5681, on 11/04/2009, -1/+13You wish you were l33t as the first guy n00b.
- FaithclubDotNet, on 11/05/2009, -0/+12Didn't some dude drop out of highschool to become a professional Guitar Hero?
- thericeroket, on 11/05/2009, -1/+11my god. his best friend is so hot, how do you pass up boobies?!
- enronhubbard, on 11/05/2009, -1/+11Did the hot girl offer herself as a bribe for him to give up gaming?
I think that's what happened, but I still can't quite believe it. - dandaman0345, on 11/05/2009, -0/+9I feel very guilty, but I laughed my ass off as well.
- DaneGleesac, on 11/05/2009, -0/+9dugg for really hot best friend. questionable at first, could have been a chunky girl with nice face but was shocked when i saw the rest of her
- Hodor, on 11/04/2009, -2/+10there was a bit of this at the release day lineup for Dragon Age: Origins...
- danwallace, on 11/05/2009, -1/+8Totally agree. His family is probably half the reason he even needs a fantasy world to escape to in the first place.
- deathstryk, on 11/05/2009, -1/+8They forgot WOW freakout kid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YersIyzsOpc - Rikushix, on 11/05/2009, -0/+6Trick question, they're the same thing.
- r3m1x645, on 11/05/2009, -2/+7PHOTOBOMB SIGHTED!
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.asylum.com/media/2009/1 ... - Phoenix919, on 11/05/2009, -1/+6These aren't problems with video games. these are sick ppl. Kevin Rose described it best... it may just as well have been someone like this was making a sandwich, ran out of mustard, and killed someone over it. If you're far gone enough to do something terrible, you'll find an excuse.
- danwallace, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Well at least we don't have to worry about any of them breeding.
- danwallace, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Riiight. Hell of a life. The guy can't put the controller down to spend time with the girl he digs or get a job so his mom doesn't have to keep supporting him.
- TyrelVnne, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4I couldn't stop laughing at the first one.
- wondertwins, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4http://i1011.photobucket.com/albums/af233/0wondert ...
- danwallace, on 11/05/2009, -2/+6No, it seemed like she went to great lengths to avoid saying she'd date him if he stopped gaming.
- danwallace, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Sorry, but that chick wasn't interested in him. She was interested in the attention he gives her, but clearly went to lengths to avoid saying she would ever be date him, regardless of how much he played. I know that type. I bet a lot of people around here know that type. He is doomed to be her "just friends".
- dandaman0345, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3The guy in the intervention video wasn't as addicted to the video games themselves as he was addicted to escaping from his own reality. The video games definitely allowed him to do that with ease, though.
- danwallace, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Well, yes and no. Obviously they are sick people, but sick people shouldn't have access to addictive catalysts. Drugs, booze and yes, gaming can all fit that bill. Obviously there's really no way to stop some people if they don't have anyone who cares enough to do something about it, but there's no denying that gaming is addictive.
- dandaman0345, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Do you think I could develop an addiction to video games AND get pussy because of it?! Omg, I have to go dust off that old Runescape account!
- VinceIP, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Did you see the first dude's eyes? There is seriously something wrong with that guy. Don't blame the games, blame the psycho kid.
- wondertwins, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Cortana has bigger boobs that is why
- allisonV12, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2So hows the social life now?
I should have kept on gaming ,reality kinda has its downside.
I miss those 6pm to 2am game times, coming home from work and blasting stuff on WW2 online.
Spitfire or ME 109 pilot...jeez ...that was such a blast.
You don't appreciate being a slacker until its gone. - Knasty51, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2All I can say is... WoW
- dusthust, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3Just leave that Peter guy alone and let him play some games. He looked like he was having fun.
- Encephalon, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I remember when that episode of Intervention played on A&E and I couldn't help but thinking that he didn't have an addiction so much as he was kind of absent-minded. His best friend is a beautiful girl who was deeply concerned with him playing video games too much and she clearly had a hard on for him but, you know, gotta play Halo. But he still managed to go out and hang out with her once in a while and go to school during that time; he was still a functioning walking young man.
Name a single person anyone knows who played WoW who didn't disappear, literally without human contact with ANYONE, for months on end before claiming they "quit", but you secretly know that they still indulge it on the sneak. - hellotyler, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1man that kid has some real problems...
- mcphilip, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1They left out the case of the gamer who played counter strike to death, literally.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/08/28/counter_st ... - Shinpah, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I would digg this up for being a decent article, but I would bury it for using "begs the question" wrong :/
- danwallace, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2Nope. Blame the psycho parents.
- Encephalon, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1You might be right. I've known the type that genuinely liked the guys they were craving that attention from and WOULD date them. Not saying you're wrong but I genuinely believe if Peter had pulled his head out of his ass just a little while longer, he might have had a shot with her.
Then again, he may very well have been acting out with a "gaming addiction" just to play mind games with her in return, so I guess anything is possible. - mikebritton, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Holy *****, the article suggests they were spiking the water with drugs!
- lemur, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Anti-video game hysteria is a load of crap.
- fxu1989, on 11/05/2009, -4/+5When I was 13, I used to game from 3pm (the time I got out from school) till 2am... this habit of mine didn't end till my senior year (17) [my school grades didn't suffer at all, but my social life definitely did]
I would be holed up in my room for almost 12 hours just playing... eventually I got bored of gaming, the most I do now is 30-60 minutes per day, and even then I stop in between games, or I don't play for a few days.
I'm 20 now. I still love video games, but now I prefer to play them with real life friends (LANs) and not for long periods of time. Looking back at what I used to do and how I treated my family when I was with a game-face, it breaks my heart. - masterstghm, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1The real world sucks, he's found a better way to live. I wish I could feel that accomplished beating a game, or even have the determination to do that.
- thizzlebot, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Lol i was having trouble telling if the first one was a joke or not.
- Surbrus, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I laughed. First of all the first guy with the mom and girlfriend who emphasize how inconvenienced they are to meet the guy, make demands that he change his hobbies/interests using blackmail (no money, no sex). It didn't say anything about him being a jobless bum did it?
Also I laughed when the sorry excuse for an article claims it has "proof" when it cites a couple examples of murder. The authors aren't even pretending that they know anything about statistics. Also, the "anger towards the gaming companies"... yeah, whatever they are not drugging your kids for money, your kids were crazy to begin with. - masterstghm, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1I love Max Payne.
- Iceman21, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1While perhaps only a tenuous connection to video game addiction exists here, the murder of Susan Petric by her 17-year-old son Daniel after she denied him access to "Halo 3" is horrifying in its implications. Is the urge to game so strong in some people that they're willing to kill when it's taken away?
People murder over other insignificant things no no, i think this has nothing to do with games. - masterstghm, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Really, they pretty much threaten him to do it.
- phbohn2, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I think Fahey is going to get addicted to Dragon Age as well.
http://kotaku.com/5395966/lets-spy-on-fahey - McLumpy, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1or Counter-Strike
- ampdj89, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I thought staying up 3:00am was excessive.
- wondertwins, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1yeah, I felt sorry for the guy because if it weren't for his mother, he probably wouldn't have become what he is now
