- dgcrazykid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38I think the PS3 will be what the PSP is today, a nice system, but not as popular as the other consoles.
- jessecollins, on 10/12/2007, -5/+353% for the Wii sounds pretty accurate. I finally stumbled upon a Wii last night at Costco. I am so pumped.
It was pretty funny because the girl that was ringing up everything said "what is this thing? Every other person is buying it." Meanwhile, a full pallet of PS3's sat in the corner. - Bikechess, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Can you please tell me which 3% have the Wii!
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30Let's get real here - the PS3 has been touted as most powerful gaming and entertainment center (by Sony).
Following this logic, these things SHOULD be getting ripped off shelves left and right.
They aren't. - imsoclever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23CHECK IF THEY HAVE KEYBOARDS ON WHICH YOU CAN WRITE IN LOWER CASE. I NEED ONE REALLY BAD, NO ONE TAKES ME SERIOUSLY ON THE INTERNET.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I wish the 58% of stores also had Wii's in stock.
I swear that system will be the only way to get my wife to game. - mazerrackham, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20It's worrisome because Sony has shipped less units than, for example, the Wii or the Xbox360 at this point in its lifecycle, but it isn't selling through like the 360 or Wii. Thus there is noticeably less demand for the PS3.
- seandfeeney, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Oh man so many impatient suckers paid thousands of dollars for the PS3 when it came out.
Patience is Virtue! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Uh, could it be *gasp* because it's ***** $600?!
No, that couldn't be it at all...
Actually, flat out, bottom line, that is the reason it's not selling. Period. - sikosmurf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"I bet half those in stock PS3's though are 20GB bundles."
"Springfield sucks! That's why we beat you in football half the time!" - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Will anybody care by then? (serious question)
If the PS3 sucks for two-three years then gamers and developers will both jump ship. Looking at past releases it seems like consoles get a year at most to prove themselves. After that, the inertia is almost impossible to overcome. I can see the PS3 selling 40 million units but I really doubt it can duplicate the success of the PS2. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+27Great, I bet half those in stock PS3's though are 20GB bundles.
- ScoobyG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15"The fact that there are PS3's in stores means that Sony is actually catching up with the demand from consumers."
Dibbz is absolutely right... Of course, you have to remember that right now demand is close to non-existent.
"I don't see how this is a bad thing at all."
Do you know? - Lazybones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They are not holding on to any, they are arriving weekly and selling off the shelf the same day. I have checked with stores I would say stores are getting MORE Wii in than PS3 but that also means they are selling WAY more of them.
- 8177, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Patience is "a" virtue
sorry to nitpick, but you clearly don't understand what you are saying. - thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13You know HATING the PS3 is just a big of a fanboy move than supporting a console people believe in.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@ Dibbz
You've obviously never taken a basic Economics class. Supply exceeding demand while still keeping an expensive retail price is never a good thing. - ThinkFr33ly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It may be the case that many of those in-stock PS3's are the 20GB bundle, but a quick look at eBay shows that the demand for the 60GB Bundle isn't particularly high. Most are selling at or below cost.
- xobecide, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16@ilyag
It implies that the current rate of next generation consoles are hard to keep in stock so soon after release. Xbox 360 is in every store because its been around for so long that the immediate rush of people that "needed" it already have it. PS2 has been around for years and the store is probably at full stock of PS2s, but still selling for that occasional person that just now wants it or wants a second or third. DS are another market.
This is just another story showing that the hype behind PS3 was empty and the hype behind Wii was real, because here we are 2 months after release and its still improbable that you could go to a store and pick up Wii accessories, much less the console. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12It could also have an expensive movie format that will be thrown out the window.
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+997% of Retailers sold out of Wii.
-notafanboy - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Your logic would make more sense if the consoles were competing all over the world. Sony hasn't even launched in Europe yet, and Nintendo is trying to keep up with demand there, which - like Japan and North America - is quite high.
- form3hide, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I CANNOT CONTROL THE TONE OF MY VOICE
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I have checked every futureshop store in pretty much Canada and everyone is out of stock.

"I swear that system will be the only way to get my wife to game."
NO JOKE... it's freaking me out how my wife actually LIKES to play video games now! Just the other day we were in Target and SHE wanted to purchase Warioware:SM and couldn't wait to get home to try it out. She says it's the most fun ( funnest ;) ) game we've purchased for the wii yet. - nytejade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's been said, but stories like this will be more relevant when blockbuster titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII are sitting on shelves.
Every console, at launch, has a rush of buyers, and the console is nearly impossible to find. On top of that rush, Zelda was pushing even MORE Wii's off shelves. Something like 90%+ of Wii's were sold with a copy of Zelda (unless I'm remembering incorrectly).
Now, imagine if the Wii had launched without Zelda. Do you think they'd still be hard to find? I certainly don't. Zelda is, and always has been, a key franchise in their console segment. They launched with a KEY 1st party franchise. That's quite a contrast to PS3's launch, which honestly didn't have one shining title.
Compare all you'd like, the playing field is nowhere near level, and these stories don't hold any merit. *shrugs*
For reference, I own a PS3 and a Wii. - StateofMind09, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9BREAKING NEWS: A $600 console is not sold out across the country a month after the holidays!
- everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Only way for PS3 to thrive is to drastically drop their console bundle prices. Even if it means losing more money in the next 3-4 quarters. They really must simply rely on the games to keep them going strong. No one wants to spend a ridiculous amount of money on something that has a competitor of equal value and gaming, but sells for far less...... Common sense Sony......use some of it.....you have plenty of HD space.....
- ImOscar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If the ones sitting in stock are indeed the 20GB bundles, why isn't Sony making many more 60GB bundles? I assume that the manufacturing difference is trivial, and the profit is greater.
- Khabi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"it just shows how people don't want the system becasue it is too much money"
It just shows that they have them in stock.. nothing more.
"If you buy all 3 systems you may need to do a reality check. GET A LIFE!!! spending $600 on a gaming system is insane. The system has no games. I have a Wii and have 6 great games. Everyone who comes over loves the thing. What PS3 owner can say that?"
I have a life a very good one in fact. Some people buy cars, some people collect baseball cards, I play video games. Spending $600 may be insane to you, to me its a hobby that I love and am willing to spend the money to enjoy it. My point never included wether or not "your friends" love "your console" or not, it simply said you will get whatever appealed to YOU. And I stand by my logic, and it still holds true.
"you sir need to take your own advice."
Let me go look at my collection here.. original Xbox... check Xbox360.. check Gamecube.. check PS2...check Ps3... check psp... check nintendo Ds... Check PC... check Wii.. On order
Yes.. my diverse collection of systems proves my fanboyism.
I beg you to re-read my post above your oh so delicatly crafted response to see where exectly I said I favor one system over another. - Khabi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No digg.. for a few reasons.
1) nobody really gives a crap about how much stock is out there anymore. Its not relevent anymore
2) Its not about the systems is about the games.. they system is only a gateway to those. If you're a real gamer you'll eventually have all 3 major consoles anyways. If you're a casual gamer, you'll get whatever has the most games that appeal to you. In either case, quantity of stock still doesn't mean anything.
3) Everyone needs to get over their 'fanboyism' bull crap and move on.
Go ahead and digg me down now. I know you want to :) - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Can I digg you down if I didn't (or if I'm just jealous)?
- MrFlesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5LOL!!! It's the new "bling bling" or "phat" Yo dude that's straight up bignorant!
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Exactly. As a fellow PS3/Wii owner I have to agree with you totally.
- Suspected, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I went with my twin to buy the WoW expansion at Target, but when we arrived, they just got a shipment of Wiis! So after constant calling and checking online for the systems with no luck of any sort, I was finally able to get it the one time I actually went to a store without the intent of purchasing a Wii. How's that for dumb luck? ^_^
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+942% of Retailers sold out of PS3.
- NoHandle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@ilyag:
Very limited supply and yet not enough demand for that limited supply means that there is a very low level of demand for the PS3. That is why people keep laughing at the fact that even inflated demand though limited supply cannot help the PS3. - ninefourchevo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7It's very easy to pick out the PS3 owners out of these comments.
- fredkreuger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4LOUD NOISES!
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I bought one, and not becuase of 1 game (resistance).
I bought it for all the future games that will be awesome. Plus the blu ray players 1080p output matches the rez on my new sony 1080p SXRD - michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have a PSWii.
Got them both @ Launch. At first I played the Wii more, Sports, Zelda.
I havn't touched it in a month. I play resistance a lot.
My kids play Wii and PS3 equally.
I'm going to get some PS2 titles this weekend. i heard Okami is good. - ScoobyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5(meant "now" - d'oh!)
- radison2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7KanosWRX,
I hope you get paid to be a shrill because I know it physically pained you to type that drivel. Enjoy your PS2 errr I mean PS3.....eh same thing really. - ScoobyG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Bignorant? I don't think this word is cromulent.
- sunchild, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Although this article proves next to nothing, I actually believe that Sony is suffering consequences from its consumer-unfriendly attitude. But maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15The article sounds about right, I don't see any positive or negative implications from this article. Yes stores have some, yes they are selling, and yes Sony is shipping more. Seems to me like PS3 isn't a runaway train like Wii (at $499/$599 I don't think it's expected), but it is selling.
On a side note I guess they didn't talk to Walmart. Mine has quote "plenty" instock but they aren't allowed to sell them to February. Why do retailers keep doing this with Wii? It's crap. - rewquio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Unless you want the flash card reader or maybe wireless network, there is no reason to buy the 60GB version. Since the PS3 hard drive is user upgradeable, buy the 20 GB version and use the $100 you have left over to buy a 120 or larger HDD and just upgrade it yourself. If you wanted, you could even buy a 250 GB external drive for that much which would work as well if you have the shelf space.
- FUElitists, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ah yes, i can see you now playing madden on the ps3 with your hat on crooked and eminem playing in the background. werd.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@lowlevel They aren't frozen they are in screensaver/standby mode. Just hold the Playstation button on the controller for 2-3 seconds to wake it up.
- jmaynardg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Buried as lame. Why? Because the article consists of a single paragraph, with no more information than what is in the link title. I expect more from an article than that.
