- gDubz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+98What's being 'high on marijuana' have to do with this story? It's like saying, "A guy on Tylonol 3 robbed a store last night".
Smart thinking though, to hit up people waiting in line to buy a $700+ item. :P - robustyoungsoul, on 10/12/2007, -5/+98If they think they feel violated now, just wait until they bring the PS3 home.
- FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+93"50 People Get Robbed Waiting for PS3 in New York"
"theres only about 10-12 of us. Some people threw him there wallet..."
/then there's the whole spelling issue... - piper999, on 10/12/2007, -5/+94Most people in line for a PS3 won't get robbed until they actually have to hand over their $600 to buy the thing.
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -21/+79How hard is it to snatch a gun from someone high on pot? Heck, I'm surprised the guy was even motivated enough to get off his couch, much less pull off a robbery.
- Steelfox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+52Trust me, it's a totally different mindstate when you're going through it then when you think about it sitting on your computer.
- Clevinger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43Yeah, I agree. For anybody who actually smokes marijuana, it really is equivalent to being on like two shots of liquor or something else minor. It does not turn the user into an unstable, gun touting idiot so there is no need to act like marijuana use is somehow connected to this man's decision to rob people.
- dexbot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+45Hey nerds! Give me your lunch money!
- datagod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37Robbed for your cash while in line = $45 in the hole
Wait in line and pay using credit card for a PS3 bundle = $700 in the hole plus interest.
Either way you get robbed. - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -11/+44I call *****. No high person is going to be violent. This isn't Reefer Madness.
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34I'm hoping for so many funny outcomes from this:
1. These people find a reason to blame Sony and sue them
2. These people have the chance to buy a PS3, but don't have enough money because they were robbed while waiting for a PS3.
3. The police make everyone waiting in line, that were just robbed, leave and not allow any more line campers causing more problems for everyone involved.
4. And finally, I hope the guy who stole their money gets a PS3 with the money he stole. Then turn around and sell it for more to a person whose money he stole. - raabco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34Buried for the sensationalist 'high on marijuana' angle of submitter
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35i smell *****.
reported as inaccurate. - Soapdish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26"Geez, who knew waiting in line could be dangerous!?!?"
Apparently you did! - Daolohua, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Marijuana induced robbery?
Does not compute. - Tyr86, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24You don't buy stuff at launch because you have a fear that some pot head is going to get high and pull a gun on you in line?
How many product launches have you waited in line for? - Soapdish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23"Hey nerds! Give me your launch money! "
You mispelled "launch" so I fixed it for you. - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19his getaway took 45 minutes.
- ThinkFr33ly, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Ya, I'm sure the pot had a lot to do with him robbing these people.
Pot doesn't make you violent, it makes you want to learn how to play the banjo and eat Cheetos.
This guy would have robbed these people whether he had smoked pot or not. His reasons had nothing to due with the drug.
If he had been drinking, on the other hand, it would be a lot more plausible. Alcohol is clearly linked with increased aggression and a lack of inhibition. Funny how that's legal and pot isn't. - BuffalOBisoN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20"Before i say anything else i want to say, this story is 100% TRUE. I dont need to lie for attention"
yeah right. - aurrea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15What an idiot. He should have waited until they got there PS3s and THEN robbed them.
Much better profit margin that way. - briantech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I love the "Guy high on marijuana" bit. Like smoking the blunt is what made him decide to rob the people.
- pianomahnn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18It's very important to note that this person was high on pot. It's a well known fact that only those who are high commit crimes.
- ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Going price on ebay = $3000 dollars.
- saeche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14look man, i smoke pot but just because it calms down most people doesn't mean it's impossible to be violent while high
- tommyhat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Seriously, 50 v 1? AND the guy was stoned?
When I'm stoned I can barely muster up the dextarity to navigate my living room let alone pull off a successful heist. - ELCid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@TheNik
Agreed. Crack or Meth sure, but not pot. He'd just want Doritos ;) - dmoney22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13That's crazy, I wonder how bad it would've been if he wasn't high!
- maxx77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I misread it at first too. Sounds like he went to get a 360. Read it more closely, though. He says that he went to the same Best Buy that he bought his 360 from. He didn't say he went to get another 360. He went to get a PS3 even though he never makes that explicit.
On a side note, if the rumors are true that only the major retailers are getting PS3 shipments, and if this particular story is actually true, then I find it hilarious that not only did these poor people get robbed, but they're about to get robbed again when they find out that BJ's (seriously, there's a store called BJ's???) doesn't actually have any PS3's to sell. - kyrandian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13A lot of propagandists here on digg.. Barely anyone even noticed the tacit implication that being high on weed is what made the guy commit the robbery. Let me clue you in-- countless crimes and accidents are attributed annually to americas favorite drug, alcohol, but ZERO people have ever died as a result of marijuana consumption. People who die in accidents etc while high on weed died because of STUPIDITY, not from being high. This robber's being high had absolutely nothing to do with the crime-- thats really simple minded to say otherwise
- mortigon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9dude.... PS3
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11From the http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/11/16/ps3campers_driveby_shooting/ article,
Best line ever:
"According to WKYT, some of the campers are now afraid for their lives and have left the line."
LOL
"OMG, what if they come back with an air rifle? I'm outta here!"
I guess sometimes campers really do get what's coming to them... - marsrover21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@ musical genius. You are uninformed and inaccurate.
- Daolohua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8OMG, that was lame, omgthatwaslame.
- kinesis8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8He already had the mindset to rob the people. He was just using the weed to calm himself down before he pulled out the gun.
- elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Shows you how 'tough' ps3 fanboys are when they're NOT on the internet.
"TAKE MY MONEY! JUST DONT HURT ME! OYY GLEYVEN!" - mandolinsrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7First of all, the story says absolutely nothing about marijuana. It says he had a blunt, which *can* be filled with tobacco. The guy is speculating that he wanted to "get a little high" before he actually did it.
Another thing, marijuana does *not* come anywhere close to impairing you as much as alcohol, even in higher doses. - sokz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Yeah, brilliant, I'm sure a shootout in a big lineup would go over well.
- fatalfury, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10What the heck does being high on marijuana have to do with that???
- Fracture98, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Luckily, they all survived with their virginity intact.
- CaptainRotundo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8BJ's is a chain of warehouse stores in the vein of Sam's Club and Costco.
http://www.bjs.com/ - bobcrotch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11How in the hell can anyone reasonably think that potheads are actually attacking people? I could maybe remotely understand over a new game console, but this story is just ***** stupid.
Watch out guys don't wait in line at starbucks anymore a crazed pothead might come rob your snobby ass! - raabco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Oh, and pot IS a violent drug, as this clearly shows."
Please cite references, as this anecdotal 'reference' does not count.
Don't have any? I thought not, thanks for playing. - ulyssesyt, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16tell you what. i'll send the robber over with a loaded fun after he's smoked a few joints, and you can try and wrestle him for it.
duh. - Wilf55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7And 87.945% of stats are made up to prove a point...
- Captj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7So why the need to mention he was high? That probably, really, plays no part.
How much does/would it affect you? Enough to make you rob people? No. - RiemannLebesgue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Please tell me that you're not so naive as to think that any sort of gun ban makes such situations impossible.
- skytimelapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Mr Thompson? Is that you?
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dude, I was so going to eBay those PS3s but.. you know.. the ***** government man!
- squison, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I think he means he's going to the same one that he got his 360. Ya know, familiarity with the pavement or something.
