popularmechanics.com — We finally got our hands on some of the most anticipated titles that have showed up from E3 to E3 —Killzone 2, Spore, LittleBigPlanet and Too Human—to give them a hard look as they finally, probably make their way to stores.

- Xazos, on 07/17/2008, -4/+38Releases are never as good when they have been promised for months and even years. The gaming industry needs to make a more surprise attack on the market in regards to games and also hardware.
Still, the graphic quality of Killzone 2 rocks!- megamod, on 07/17/2008, -1/+12what??? MGS4 was great and it was in the oven for god knows how long!
But I think it was an exception. I'll digg you up bc I know what you mean. - jaytea90, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Well, without marketing, people would be unaware of the game. Without the anticipation buildup, I doubt as many people would buy the game at launch, thus earning the company less or allow them to calculate inflow of future economic benefits. (This is with the exception that the game is actually good)
- HumanRecalled, on 07/18/2008, -8/+5yeah rocked 4 yrs ago !!
If you ask me Killzone looks nothing like the hyped so called advancement of real time gaming that ended up being a pre-rendered lie !!
Sorry Killzone 2 looks like any other shooter game out there ! Nothing special here !
- megamod, on 07/17/2008, -1/+12what??? MGS4 was great and it was in the oven for god knows how long!
- spazzx625, on 07/17/2008, -2/+31LBP is probably going to take me by surprise. I have been reluctantly optimistic about it, but haven't been sure of its longevity.
Too Human never looked like it was something worthwhile...Maybe 9 years ago it would have been a killer franchise, but it kinda just looks like a cross between Mass Effect and God of War to me.- KingGoonie, on 07/17/2008, -3/+17I had to quit the demo... the game was so damn bad... usually I would try to finish out demo, but I coudlnt... I just was wondering to myself after 40minutes 'what if... OH GOD... what if this goes on for another 40 minutes!?1!?!"
- BedPost, on 07/18/2008, -3/+5Too human sucks.
- AdmiralAcbar, on 07/18/2008, -3/+8I dunno. I was let into a 45-minute preview of Too Human, and it seems pretty good to me. No load screens, good in-game mechanics... should be nice.
- Elranzer, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5LBP will probably be charming for the first hour I play it, then I'll probably never touch it again.
- Jasper710, on 07/17/2008, -7/+35Too Human is a complete joke. Play the demo. I dare you!
- KingGoonie, on 07/17/2008, -22/+5Dude, I went to gamefaqs just to judge how much more of that horrible demo there was to go, figured they might have a demo guide... nope so went to boards.... Would you believe people were rating the demo like a 10 out of 10... I swear. I thought I must be seeing things... So I went into a few different boards that had HOW DO YOU RATE THE DEMO subject headings... And thankfully did find a few that gave the game 5/10 (though even thats too much) and some that said the game sucked completely... but that was maybe 10%. I mean really... are 90% of the people playing that crappy demo actually liking it? The controls annoy the ***** out of me. Because I keep running then go to look around with R1... boom SCREECH put on the breaks and slice the air with my sword. I have played games where R1 is attacking, mostly on the live arcade, and they didn't feel weird because it fit... this... this control does not seem to fit. And the enemies are gay.
- spazzx625, on 07/17/2008, -2/+13360 has no R1 button...
And the enemies prefer their own sex? How strange... - mywhitenoise, on 07/17/2008, -4/+6GameFAQs said the same with that ***** Haze demo...rating it a 10/10.
I'm surprised so many people like Halo, I played Halo 3 the other day...how can people find shooting little midget aliens with high pitched voices appealing? - WhoIsMikeJones, on 07/17/2008, -3/+3Are you typing this on your playstation?
- Juntistik, on 07/18/2008, -2/+3All of halo is in the multiplayer, everyone knows that.
- spazzx625, on 07/17/2008, -2/+13360 has no R1 button...
- mywhitenoise, on 07/17/2008, -3/+17Yeah, i downloaded the demo. What a crock of *****!
You fight with the right stick, and you cant control the camera. Story and voice acting is generic and boring.
Go LittleBigPlanet!- thebza451, on 07/18/2008, -2/+3you said you didn't own a 360, only ps3..
- mywhitenoise, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2And I couldn't have boughten one in the months that followed that statement? Gamertag: mewhitenoise
I don't own a 360, but I'm borrowing one right now to see if I should buy one. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to buy it though. Thing is ***** LOUD, I mean ridiculously loud, I don't know how anyone can put up with that. The dashboard interface is a chaotic mess, and all those colors gives me a headache. The XBL store really doesnt have that big of an advantage over PSN, for me I only care about DLC and demos...which PSN has plenty of. Top that with the lack of real exclusives on 360, the RROD, and that I already own a PS3, I'm finding it very hard to want to buy this thing.
You can argue that XBL has its advantages over PSN, but I don't game online much (except Warhawk), that and achievements aren't enough for me to spend $300+.
- AngeloM3, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5I too was excited that it was coming out in a month...... but after playing the demo, I'll be $60 richer. It seemed like fighting would get very boring in this game. It's kinda like button mashing with a stick.
- Jenadae, on 07/18/2008, -3/+9I, for one, enjoyed the demo.
- metalhead87, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Ditto. I thought the game was going to be complete trash from what I was always hearing about it, but the demo was awesome. Played through it like 4 times. I really don't get all the complaints I keep hearing about the camera/aiming......I had no problems with any of it.
- PrometheusZero, on 07/17/2008, -2/+47Talk about a ***** title... LBP had a good showing as well.
- Managua8Green, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3yeah, they even admitted that they went from fans to zealots about LBP. The submitter, diggboss, is a BITCH *****.
- BuzzDiggity, on 07/17/2008, -4/+8if i owned all these games, i would never leave my house. ... which wouldn't be so bad.
- seshat6, on 07/17/2008, -7/+65What a misleading title! They say that little big planet deserves all the hype, and is a reason to buy a PS3!
- CollapseControl, on 07/17/2008, -35/+11I rather hold onto the $400+ and play with my own sack....
- badwithcomputer, on 07/17/2008, -6/+20Don't know why you're getting dugg down. That sounds like a good time to me.
- mywhitenoise, on 07/17/2008, -2/+18Probably because he's Digg's biggest troll.
- apena89, on 07/17/2008, -2/+8i feel bad for you.
no not really. - soundsofreason, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2You put "XBL>PSN" in the "name" field on your profile???
...you'll have to excuse me while I go barf from fanboy-itis into the nearest garbage can. - CollapseControl, on 07/18/2008, -2/+1@soundsofreason
Thanks for viewing my profile . . .
Does it really matter what I have as my "name"?
XBL is greater than PSN, why would it not be better when people are actually paying for access. If it was worse than the PSN, people would switch. And come this Fall, it will be 30x better than PSN after the update.
Now, take your PS3 fanboyism and don't forget to wipe your mouth. - apena89, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1@ CollapseControl
(divided) / by 30 because you have to pay.
anymore hidden costs anyone? - CollapseControl, on 07/18/2008, -3/+1@apena
You only have to pay to play online matches, there are thousands of gamers who don't game online and can have the access of XBL for free. Even with the free silver account XBL is far superior over PSN. Free XBL you can still play your games, unlock achievements, talk to friends, send messages, watch videos, listen to music, view photos, etc, etc, etc.
And when the next Dashboard comes it'll blow PSN away by far.
- IrvineKinneas50, on 07/17/2008, -2/+15Have you looked into LBP? It looks incredible. It's part of the reason I got a PS3.
- Varz, on 07/18/2008, -4/+2They also say:
"Forget Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Resistance franchise—if there's a reason to buy a PlayStation 3, this is it."
It looks ok if you're into platformers, but no way is it better then MGS4 judging by this:

- CollapseControl, on 07/17/2008, -35/+11I rather hold onto the $400+ and play with my own sack....
- YME1280, on 07/17/2008, -4/+23Played the demo for Too Human yesterday and its a rambling mess of wannabe Devil May Cry with ***** controls.
- 3sicasity, on 07/17/2008, -2/+7well, ign said otherwise.
- louiebaur, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5What laggers
- soundsofreason, on 07/17/2008, -9/+17I never understood why so many were bashing Killzone when it came out. It seemed to be viewed as Sony's answer to Halo (which it was never intended to be that). I for one was very glad it was nothing like Halo. I really enjoyed that game. Looking forward to the 2nd chapter.
Anyone who hasn't read the article yet, make sure to ignore the Digg submitted title and read the LBP section. It's VERY positive.
It just seems like there are so many miserable people out there right now that want to ***** on Sony whenever they get a chance.- maxsunset, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3Yup. It's getting annoying how so many digg users are so completely biased about this or that... so damn annoying. Talk about being closed minded, and pretending to be open minded at the same time.
- KeillRandor, on 07/18/2008, -1/+0Unfortunately it's just one of these things about most human beings: they like to look at things for what they think/wish them to be, rather than what they actually are...
re: subjective vs objective - (most people are subjective).

Enough said.
- Maverick0420, on 07/17/2008, -11/+3Killzone 2 is going to be awesome... in all actuality what shooter in recent years has really pushed anything huge and new in terms of the FPS besides graphics?
None.- Adonai, on 07/17/2008, -1/+18Portal? Although you can argue that's not a 'shooter', per se. Still, it uses classic FPS movement/controls and gives you a different spin on things.
- eyefone, on 07/17/2008, -14/+1Portal is a steaming pile of horse *****, I can't believe so many people like that game.
- AlxRymnd914, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4The future does not look good for eyefone.
- apena89, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3idk about you but portal was very fun!
- Acglaphotis, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4eyefone: May you be molested by a thousand monkeys.
- TheKitchenSinkX, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Including this one!
- Adonai, on 07/17/2008, -1/+18Portal? Although you can argue that's not a 'shooter', per se. Still, it uses classic FPS movement/controls and gives you a different spin on things.
- AwesomeMonster, on 07/17/2008, -3/+4The one thing sony did great at that conference was show off LBP. That (along with ratchet) is one of the only games that makes me truly jealous of ps3 owners.
- annjay, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Confused!
- jupaneanu, on 07/17/2008, -0/+12I would be disappointed if Killzone 2 wasn't awesome
- captmorgan555, on 07/17/2008, -3/+25Title is misleading. The only game the article really puts down is Too Human.
- Dracusis, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3No, the misleading part is that anyone thought what popularmechanics has to write about would actually be worth reading.
- Overmind12812, on 07/17/2008, -1/+7The truth is, most of these games are not even in the final stages yet in terms of tweaking gameplay. You can never be quite sure what a game will be like until launch day.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Too Human, which got the worst of it here, is due out next month. Obviously not very much can change between now and then if anything at all.
- RivalJr, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Wow and I was really excited for too human, the idea behind the combat system really got me all hyped up
- ronintetsuro, on 07/17/2008, -0/+41The "mother of all delayed games" is NOT Too Human.
Take 5 gamers and ask them that question. My next paycheck says 3 of them say Duke Nukem Forever.- svensko, on 07/17/2008, -0/+32 more gamers remain!
- Zarokima, on 07/17/2008, -0/+21"Delayed" implies the game will actually be released.
- PleaseJustDie, on 07/17/2008, -0/+17Duke Nukem isn't delayed, its right on time to be out in forever.
- SSCrow, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Also, Duke Nukem Forever has not been shown off at E3 constantly.
- ScarabLordCoral, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4Kameo for the 360 was developed for 4 different consoles since 1999, I think it might beat Too Human in that department. For anyone interested, those 4 consoles were: N64, GC, Xbox, Xbox 360.
- ldkronos, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4I don't know about Too Human, but DNF hasn't been delayed, as a release date was never set (it's always been "when it's done").
- Shogi, on 07/17/2008, -3/+20God does this year's E3 suck hard.
- ndnspongebob, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2i know right, all 4 games that article talks about were introduced a while ago.
- AparoidX, on 07/18/2008, -1/+10http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p236/fernando_r ...
- Evilblobs, on 07/17/2008, -0/+13The article is half decent, but the digg title is wrong.
- IrvineKinneas50, on 07/17/2008, -2/+11LittleBigPlanet is going to be epic win. When the game comes out, it'll have a lot of content and be lot of fun. But the game's going to get exponentially better as time goes on.
Hundreds of thousands of gamers with a physics environment to develop levels in and the opportunity to upload and rate levels + time = greatness. We'll be looking at full recreations of platformer levels, crazy physics games, and lots of unique stuff. I plan on making educational levels (yes, I'm a nerd). Just wait until you ride a rollercoaster through my "periodic table of the elements" level or take my programming tutorial levels.- otros, on 07/18/2008, -3/+2Oh! that DOES sound epic.

- otros, on 07/18/2008, -3/+2Oh! that DOES sound epic.
- Rosco, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4And another year goes by with a no-show of the game that I shall not name. Which, of course, should come as no surprise to anyone. (hint, company name starts with a "3"
- TheKitchenSinkX, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6I'm seriously drawing a blank.
Well actually not really I guess. I can think of only one developer that starts wit ha 3, being 3D Realms.
And if I remember correctly they're doing Duke Nukem Forever.
Which makes perfect sense in the scope of your comment.
Huh.- Rosco, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Correctamundo!
- TheKitchenSinkX, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6I'm seriously drawing a blank.
- YouRookies, on 07/17/2008, -1/+8Too Human feels like an old PSX game.
- johnroth, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I see what u did thar
- apena89, on 07/17/2008, -1/+9Who should I trust for a Killzone 2 hands-on review, IGN or Popular Mechanics? I think we all know the answer.
- AparoidX, on 07/18/2008, -0/+8Yeah, Popular Mechanics is the source of the "Death by iPhone? Why Spore Means the End of the PSP" article on Digg. I dare you to read it.
- kyrre, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Same author too.
- apena89, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2i put the exact same comment here, on that link, and the author never approved my comment. rofl.
- AparoidX, on 07/18/2008, -0/+8Yeah, Popular Mechanics is the source of the "Death by iPhone? Why Spore Means the End of the PSP" article on Digg. I dare you to read it.
- handler, on 07/17/2008, -1/+10Stop releasing more Guitar Heros, FFS.
- kingofthisnight, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Let me guess... you think Guitar Hero is lame because you play real guitar?
- LilBoyLuver, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5Take your time devs.
I would rather have a polished masterpiece of a game next year then a good idea, ruined, by a rushed release.- dzw120, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3Amen to that. Take a note from Blizzard and release a game "when it's ready". Sure, some game fanboys are going to whine and moan about how they've been waiting forever, but when your game is still being played enthusiastically by tens of thousands of gamers around the world a decade after its release, you'll be happy you waited a couple months.
- damndj, on 07/18/2008, -2/+1actually that would be id Software
- damndj, on 07/18/2008, -2/+1actually that would be id Software
- maxsunset, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Most developers would love to have the luxury of time that Blizzard and other such companies have, but they live in the real world, with real economics dictating how long they can keep their real doors open and real employees fed.
- LilBoyLuver, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1If a company does have the luxury of time, they should use it.
- dzw120, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3Amen to that. Take a note from Blizzard and release a game "when it's ready". Sure, some game fanboys are going to whine and moan about how they've been waiting forever, but when your game is still being played enthusiastically by tens of thousands of gamers around the world a decade after its release, you'll be happy you waited a couple months.
- Import98, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Little Big Planet didn't disappoint. I knew once I played the demo I didn't like Too Human.
- TheKitchenSinkX, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1:D
*Exactly* what I was expecting/hoped for. I'm hugely hyped about Spore and LittleBigPlanet. I'm excited to the max for them...but for Killzone 2 and Too Human, ever since day one I haven't given a flying rat's ass about them. They're just more shooters. MAG sounds cool though. - Jenadae, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7Lemme be the first to stand up for Too Human. I'm not sure what everyone was hoping for in this game, they never buffed it up to be more then a hack and slash with vast customization which is EXACTLY what the demo proved it to be. The use of the right analog stick at first was very awkward to me as i was so used to using it strictly for camera movement, but i soon found it to be the only way the game would work. The camera does need a touch up which could easily be fixed with using RB and LB to move it rather then RB to just snap it behind you.
The story was weak but i really had zero interest in it in the first place. I just hope the multiplayer mode is well done. Overall Id give this demo an 7.8 as a overall package but a 9 in what i was expecting from it. - Obsession88, on 07/18/2008, -0/+10Since when did PM turn in to a gamer Magazine??
- maxsunset, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Kinda shows you how wide spread this gaming "fad" is, huh?
- HumanRecalled, on 07/18/2008, -10/+4Killzone 2 is been played out ! First back in 2005 at E3 when Sony swore up and down the footage we were seeing was not pre-rendered and that it was in fact real time ! 2005 more of the same BS ...2006 some new footage shows up yet looks familiar yet drastically different that the first video - we are also told this is real time game play and the game was tweaked !
2007 !
2008 this game look nice but is a far stretch from what it was told to us !! As Sony admitted it wasn't real time game play and that it was pre-rendered
Lied Real time game play !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko9xC6TMdiw
Once again Newer video 2007 said real time game play !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lRAPncF5qw&feature ...
Sony was hyoing this back in 205/06 cause they were hyping PS3 power and saying all games woudl be in real time !!
Really cause i have yet to see a game that was pre rendered on the PS3 ..Remember the cell processor so called capabilities ? and could create games in real time ? so much for 40 times more power !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVXmj0lJzoI 1:58 in they say about the real time ***** !!!!! It's all ***** pre-rendered !
Don't believe the Sony Hype machine !! I did and that's why i now have sold my machine !! Cause i don't care about Blu Ray and i don't care for waiting for 1 decent title every 2 yrs or longer
!!! Just to be able to use my Ps3
BULL ***** UNSUBSTANTIATED HYPE !
Digg me down but its's true- damndj, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2tl;dr, dugg down anyway
- HumanRecalled, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2like i said i don't give a ***** , that swhat i want to be dugg down either way people see the truth !
There no yearly reward system on Digg for most dugg submissions or most dugg down! So get the ***** over yourselves!!!
- HumanRecalled, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2like i said i don't give a ***** , that swhat i want to be dugg down either way people see the truth !
- shinythingy, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1It seems i have travelled back in time to 2006
- damndj, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2tl;dr, dugg down anyway
- VVCephei, on 07/18/2008, -4/+2The article was a little bias toward Ps3, I'll give them that. Every ps3 title shown was highly reccomended, yet too human had absolutely NO Pros in the article, I (personally) Have played too human demo, to me, it is Fantastic, Sure, there are it's bad points (voice acting and character animation truly sucks, can be a bit limited as to where you can go) However it has it's good points too. Like all games.
Besides, Who the ***** is 'Popularmechanics' and what do they know about gaming? They stated that they played 'Too Human' 2 years ago? Which would be roughly July 2006... Where-as the 360 was released November 22nd... So basically, they played Too human 9 months after the 360 was released?... Did I miss something? How did they have a Too human version out at that time? And how the ***** did "popularmechanics" get their hands on it?- rationalist, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2For crimes against Grammar, we hereby sentence you to hang by your participle until gerund. Wild horses will then split your lifeless infinitives four sheets to the wind.
Mai teh Lored Half merci an you're sole.- VVCephei, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0Stop trying to be funny.
- rationalist, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2For crimes against Grammar, we hereby sentence you to hang by your participle until gerund. Wild horses will then split your lifeless infinitives four sheets to the wind.
- exomni, on 07/18/2008, -2/+1Too Human? Really? I don't remember that ever being the main focus, or even a big focus, of any E3. I don't remember anyone actually expecting it to be good, or really hyping it at all seriously. Sony has banked on LBP and Killzone 2, and Spore has been considered a huge killer IP for years now. But Too Human? It sounds to me like whoever wrote this article was just trying to fit Microsoft in there somewhere so they could sound balanced.
I think HOME would have been a better choice, but like I said, I think Popular Mechanics was trying hard to be superficially "balanced" and not make just a list full of Sony IPs. - Soup4Brains, on 07/18/2008, -0/+14Stop calling it the "E3 expo." That's like saying "ATM machine."
- rationalist, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Department.
- roxya, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4It's like calling PHP "PHP Hypertext Processor". Oh, wait...
- danmarek, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Best acronym ever. When I was first learning about PHP, I thought the whole double acronym was a joke.
- atomicmonkey, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Those reviews were some of the most obtuse ones I've ever read.
- Darkswarm, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4The title is completely incorrect. For example, LittleBigPlanet, in the article, was praised and did not bring disappointment. I think the article was trying to be objective where the submitter is a stupid fanboy. Therefore, buried as inaccurate.
- iruel, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4I enjoyed the demo of Too Human. The graphics were lacking, but i think it delivered in the loot collection aspect. I am curious to see how the play styles of the different classes differ. Hopefully there will be some tuning between now and its release. But I remain optimistic.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0There are so many releases onto the market that it's hardly surprising that the manufacturers over-play the features. It's then up to fellow gamers to give critical feedback to their friends- that way the hype can be cut through.

- thebza451, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1it's cool to hate on denis dyack and too human... jump on the bandwagon before it's too late sheep!
- Scops86, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0I hate to admit it, but I've really been wanting Too Human to fail. Silicon Knights really did wrong by Epic, and that lawsuit is still tying up the latter's resources (money and personnel). It was a slap in the face to the guys that work there.
I know that poor sales will probably just make SK redouble their efforts to get some kind of compensation out of Epic, and it will also blow away any chance the company will get to a Eternal Darkness sequel, but I'd rather that than see another Too Human project poison everything it touches. - neocitron, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I'm actually not interested in Spore at all after toying with the creature creator.
