- ham_scares_me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Say bye-bye to battery life.
- jinster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This looks pretty dope.
- hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FYI if anyone doesnt know what a pass me is, it is a hardware hack that lets you run the GBA cart code on poth screens, it goes inside the ds game slot and connects to a ds game, getting the signed images from it. they look alot alike. Google Dark Fader and you will find his blog, he wrote the software for the passme and Nautrim42 implimented it.
- Sharky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm a PSP owner, and I don't own a DS, but I do have to say, that is pretty kickin' rad. It's so slick, and really cool.
- AprilEthereal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is definately an excellent idea, I'd hope that with Nintendo's outlook on games and moving forward into the next generation that they would somehow begin to incorporate such devices as these. And if not, this takes the cake on completely blowing the PSP's ass out of the water.
- samfrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1have you played a ds lite you psp newb?
- a22e, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is great! I wonder what it will retail for in USD?
- japanlover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I already have my DS hacked with a new firmware and i have a 1gig SD card for it...
So i really hav eno need for this...
But for those who don't want to flash there DS this is nice i guess.......... - xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They have this already but its sold in China then ported to US or at least the second video player I have, the Movie Advance for the DS kinda sucks, anime is fine on it but there damn converter blows I hope this one is cool.
http://www.m3adapter.com/main.htm - pinac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01gb play yan with support for mp4/xvid is going to win because there's a ton more content available. battery life is awesome on the play yan as well.
add in support for ds, sp and micro and i think it's a no brainer. - hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have a feeling it will, because of the way it is designed, but if not there will be a passme lite
- hollywoodone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0shoulda made it flash
- antipro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This should open the door for a lot of Homebrew games and emulators
Digg++ - Shaner84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is going to rock! I was going to buy a PSP but with 4gb I dont need to.
- --alex--, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wouldn't think it uses the passme, but it would more likely be a card with the code which accesses the HDD.
Anyway, this looks like its worth buying. - TheDarkTipper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually it costs $153.56
- macattacks10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It has a DS card that it uses, which I would assume you normally launch, and hte GBA is like an extension that the card accesses for content.
- serpentor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What is the likelihood that PassMe's and flashcarts will still work with the upcoming DS Lite? You'd think the Big N would be clamping down pretty hard on the vulnerabilities in the original DS.
- vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone have a link for the PSP version?
- cheztir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really doubt it uses Passme. More likely the "Uber Special DS Cartridge" just accesses the GBA slot for it's content, since that would seem the most logical. And for about 250USD i could go buy an M3 Perfect and stick a 4Gb CF card (not microdrive) CF and play with that and have the media and my games.
- dtrinh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The PSP one can't run homebrew well ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not being flash makes this very poor..
- dirtridr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This looks sweet! Good thing I kept my DS!
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0M3 (SD or CF) is way better than this. Thats all I have to say about that really. I can already tell you as being on the NDS scene that the M3 is probably the best thing you can get if you are interested into expanding your DS capabilities. It already does music, videos, photos, homebre apps, and GBA/DS roms.
Also to clear up a few points
1) do not count on a webbrowser anytime soon unless an official developer makes it because the homebrew scene really just got their hands on the DS wifi library
2) the whole PassMe thing...it is the security bypass and Nintendo is aware of it and did put in a fix for many of the recent DS models (thus making the PassMe2 come about). The DS Lite will no doubt have even more fixes
3) if you want to get the DS to have expanded functionality, you must look at either one of these packages
a) M3 CF/SD verison, 1 PassKey2, 1 DS Game (for said PassKey2), and either a CF or SD card depending on M3 model. That should run you about $130'ish plus the card (about $50 for 1 gigabyte)
b) G6 4GB edition. This is the same as the M3 but is just a GBA cart and not a media reader, so it has all the same functionality and space as that PSP HDD and is ballpark same price
c) Play Yan Micro and SD card. Get it off Lik-Sang and enjoy Nintendo's offical media player.
and thats all I have to say about that - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice. Doesn't look as daft as the PSP 4GB drive either.
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't like datel gear... but still, just to know it's available is pretty cool.
- eigh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks great and all but if it really is a HD then thats gonna take away alot of battery life, and even though it says it can run executable code im still skeptical as to how well it runs homebrew. i would get it but i really want to be able to run my HelloDS.
ill prolly just have to go with a passme2 and a 3gb CF card or something. - NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0225 dollars? Yeah, right. If this was for, say, $100, I might consider it.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Sharky - You get points from me for saying something nice about the "other" system. In fact, this whole thread has been remarkably free of fanboys.
The more I look at it, the more I find I really want a DS. And out of curiosity, how long until someone gets sued for "pirating" movies to their DS? This is a great example of a case where the DMCA screws over the honest guys. - Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweeeet, now i can take my pirated gear everywhere!!!
- hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the DS has been a nice surprise. i got it as soon as it launched played, then put it down for the psp, after the raw power of the psp didnt amuse me anymore i went for the fun gameplay of the ds, plus linux. this is rather great day for ds owners. now if we could trade in our ds for a nice discount on the lite :)
PS> props to Shark - Majin_Raditz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty cool but I wish it was more than 4GB.
- Mullinsmcd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0$225 is what I got after converting it from British Pounds. Thats like the price of a DS and a half ITSELF! If it was easier to rent DS games (Blockbuster is no longer renting DS in my area) there would be no question because that would pay for itself in emuing the whole DS library. Maybe theres an underground ROM swapping network that i dunno about.
But still, its not worth the price yet. Make it less then what I paid for the system then ill think about it.
Also, if anyone knows any good DS hacks im ready and willing to get the most out of my machine. please post if you have any suggestions - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This doesn't use the PassMe. Products from Datel can run natively on consoles.
- CptnObvious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As soon as this comes out and DSLinux will work on it I am going to buy it (assuming its not that expensive). It would also kick ass if it works with USB-OTG so I can hook it to my iAudio X5L incase I ever run out of space.
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0forget to mention, the G6 would need the PassKey2 and game. The Play Yan wouldnt because its Nintendo made
- Brutis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg for neat add-on, but sucks for $225, maybe 100
- EasY_TargeT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great, but only for music? i dont think it has the same functional abilities as the PSP one had
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0executable code.
how long til someone makes a loder for it so that way i can boot roms?
how long til i get online play AND a webbrowser
thats waht i RELE want
a ***** web browser...... jeez - eigh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=246&products_id=8731&
says they will sell it for 180$ - untoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0as far as video goes will i have to reincode or will this play my divx/xvid/mp4/mpg?
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this would be sweat if the screans on the ds werent of such low quality... Hopefully the upcoming revision to the DS gives us some pretty screens to drool over.... then i'd buy this, but for now i'll stick with the psp.
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I want the PSP one. :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This sucks. If I wanted this junk I would have an iPod or PSP.
- gamersedge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0lets face it, this is fricken sweet. BUT, the other stuff that lets you cheat is not cool. i dont get WTF the point of cheating in nintendogs is. although i do cheat the sims 2 alot...
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Wow, that's great... wait, I don't care.
