- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5wow, and for the price of an 8GB, you could buy 2 PSP's, a 1GB card, and a lap dance.
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38GB! Nice...I cannot imagine how much they will cost. I guess I will hold on to my 1GB for a while.
- scooterbaga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It figures. I wonder how long Sony sat on these so they could sell the smaller ones.
- tmcdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I bought a sony 5mp camera when they were cutting prices on them and the memory sticks a few years ago.. but it seems more likely they are stalling certain technologies to make more money off the consumer... if they keep this kind of tactic up $1000 for an 8gb memory stick is CRAAAZZZYYY! They will simply price themselves right out of the market and people will STOP buying their cameras! Personally, I can't see a reason to get an 8gb memory stick, but hey, that's no reason to keep them costing sky-high prices.
At the end of 2003, I got a 5mp camera for $299 and soon after a sandisk 2gb memory stick for $79.. they are 1/3 less now, but a good deal at the time. I held out small hope that sandisk would keep sony competitive, little did I know it was a scam to keep sony selling what technology they had left to throw on the market, they don't even innovate, as most of their NEW product development is OUTSOURCED these days. Not even the PS3 will help them.. my next camera electronics WILL NOT BE A SONY! - wookiekiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those'll cost more than the psp itself.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well time to sell the farm and shot the horse down, this is gonna gost some dough.
- EmmEff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nothing like sticking a $500 memory card in a $200 device... PSP users will be banging down Sony's doors to buy these up. NOT.
- TheRealPod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bet you have to update the firmware for the 8GB model.
- Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sony's memory sticks are already overpriced compared to SD... I cringe at how much an 8GB memory stick will cost.
- JustKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01 80GB laptop drive $109
1 external enclosure $ 15 - bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0err: cost
- DaShiZNiT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was under the impression that the PSP uses FAT16, although you can reformat it under windows to get the full 8GB (FAT32), the PSP still cannot USE anything over four!?!?
I read this a while back while checking into upgrading the 4GB drive found in datel's HDD.
Could be wrong and it wouldnt be the first time ;) - app13pi3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm so glad that there is finally an alternative to that 4GB HDD; I took a look at it and it was really large compared to the PSP. I'm not sure if I can scrap together enough money for the 4GB, but I sure hope I can.
and for those of you who're saying that you can fit 3 full length movies on your 1 GB stick- what encoding are you using? I use PSP Video 9 and it only shrinks my movie files to around 600MB. Is there another program out there with better compression? - MadG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe the 8GB version will be like the old 256MB memory stick of the very first memory stick generation. It was actually 2x 128MB (because 128MB was the max) and you had to switch between each partition manually. So maybe the 8 GB one will actually be 2x 4GB. Probably not, but still a possibility.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The 4GB limit is due to firmware limitations. So basically Sony will release the next PSP firmware update that will allow the PSP to use 4GB+ Memory Sticks, and hopefully some cool new features.
- dannycohen62, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The only bad thing is that theyll porbably cost $200-300
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...and they will cost $400-$800 each.
If it will be affordable, great. But I'm fine with my 1g stick. Room for 3 movies and tons of SNES and Genesis emulation. - p3lEr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1nice.....
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wouldn't mind 8 GB in my K750i
- lilrocker1391, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i mean i thought the 250$ for just the psp was alot and the go spending like 400$ for a memory stick ill pass il just get a 2gb
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yes! 8GB will hold 8-12 good PSP games... or one GTA game. :
- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW the cost is going to be VERY high...however.........................................................................dugg
- BBad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Prices will go down of maybe they offer a deal if you sign up with their connect service which is said to now be trying to take on Itunes directly by offering movies(in psp format), music, and PSP (demo) games. So if Sony doesn't mess this up they'll have a great service with an awesome platform, but only time will tell......... oh yeah and PRICE. All they need to do is come out with the right price point and ....... success.
- jetblac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With 1gb's hovering at $55 and 2gb's around $100
I think it is safe to assume the 4gb's to hit $220
if you get it on sale from dell (you'll have to wait a couple of months for delivery) you can probably get it for $180
considering their price points for the 1gb and the 2gb at that same $180 - GrayFox130, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It can't cost that much since it's new technology taking the place of old technology and most likely the 1 GB will go down to $60 or so (just like computer parts). the 4 GB must be about $125. so the price isn't going to be outrageous. get what i mean?
- Burns, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0psp maxes at 4
- Ryne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0A guy sent me the movie Primer (rather short movie) at 150 MB.
- GuyNextDoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0While DUO used to cost significantly more than any other flash memory equivalent, prices have dropped dramatically enough in recent months to make it more competitive than it used to be. I believe this was probably due to the high demand from PSP users for a cheaper memory product. Hopefully, this pricing scheme will continue with the release of these cards. While I'm sure they won't be cheap, neither is a 4 or 8 GB CF card, and 2 GB SD cards still cost close to a 100 dollars!
- kevin_qnn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0^app
psp video express is pretty nice too - CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I used PSP Video 9 too. You just have to play with the encoding. I forget the specs I used, but there are ways to get it down. Remember, it's a small screen with 2Channel sound. No reason to get fancy with the video or sound. The movies I had were getting down to 300-350MB and looked fine on the screen. Wouldn't want to play them on anything else, but on the PSP they looked great.
- RichMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I like the Pro Duo sticks, because just about all Sony stuff have a slot for them. My PSP uses them, my camera (Sony Cybershot L1) uses them, and my dad's 42" Sony WEGA uses them (though I haven't done more than simply browsing my memorystick on it, it supposely lets me slideshow my images and plays a single mp3 as the background music)
- sirmasterboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They do offer a 4GB hardrive / double capasity battery that fits into the existing battery slot. u can find it for 150-200bucks.
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've got it!! The 4GB memory Stick Pro duo won't cost a THING!! Check out the Google ad at the top here, it's says "FREE 4GB Memory Stick..." !! SCORE!! Thanks Google!! :
- JayRod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0B&H photo has the regular 4GB memory stick pro for $849. And I think the smaller duo memory sticks cost more. So you can just imagine what the cost of the 8GB would be.
- CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What is the need for this? With my 1GB stick, I can easily fit 3 full length movies. I guess if you wanted to use the PSP as an iPod, but... that's what my iPod is for.
- willtippin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The PSP cannot recognize more than 4gb of data I think, thats why the 4GB HDD is only 4GB.
- monkeymagik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0awesome... 8gb of music on my phone
- Spencer10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why even bother when they will sell it for 100 bucks a gig... it's not worth it.
- willizm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Has anyone gotten GTA to even run using loaders yet.
- Truegod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0too bad the PSP only supports 4GBs of memory.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They won't costs as much as you guys think. The 1gb and the 2gb will go down in price, and the new ones will be somewhat cost friendly. My predictions: 1gb = $75, 2gb = $125, 4gb = $200, 8gb = $300
- cheztir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0one question comes to mind. Why? Why Memory Stick? I have one thing that can even take the thing and i NEVER use it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Sony's proprietary memory is just another reason to avoid their products completely.
