- Ajajadude, on 12/25/2008, -4/+70Why do these articles insist on claiming Sony doesn't tell people they can upgrade their HDD in the PS3? It's in the dammed instruction manual!
- mickstephenson, on 12/26/2008, -9/+4843 - If you have COD 4, don't buy COD 5, it's just a waste of money.
- mohsenxp, on 12/26/2008, -0/+23He said COD5 and you knew he meant world at war.
Maybe that's why? - mrwoo, on 12/25/2008, -6/+25People who write those articles don't read instruction manuals! They are too good for that.
- SuperMonkeyKing, on 12/26/2008, -0/+18There was never an official wired controller for PS3.
- synergye, on 12/26/2008, -3/+19Do I even need to explain the irony here?
- GamingBob, on 12/25/2008, -14/+30I had no idea the PS3 had wifi.
- mickstephenson, on 12/26/2008, -2/+15Why would I want to say World at War, or Double-u A Double-u, when I can say 5 and pretty much everyone would unambiguously know what I mean?
- AndrewMoyer, on 12/26/2008, -0/+11Yeah, they also make it easily accessible and simple to switch, with end-user disk utilities built into XMB for formatting.
- freehunter, on 12/26/2008, -3/+13Your mom is practically a dinosaur, but I still got her for christmas.
- mohsenxp, on 12/26/2008, -1/+11Yup they fully approve it.
It doesn't void your warranty like other consoles. - haentz, on 12/26/2008, -1/+10"So far, at least, PS3 games aren't being region coded." That I knew... But I'm still amazed that Sony allows this...
- Jeremyz0r, on 12/26/2008, -0/+8America and Japan are in the same region now too. So even if it's done, we can still import.
- samkityoung, on 12/26/2008, -0/+7I like to play video games. That is all I know.
- ricopicouk, on 12/26/2008, -0/+7I had the same problems, you will find that if you click the sub section of each topic, it will open another screen with those tips.
Its just silly the way they have formated it, - 10 tips for x360, 7 more tips for x360.. (why not just 17!!) - forcedfx, on 12/26/2008, -2/+8I have to disagree withy them on that one. At first I wasn't impressed but now that I've played WaW, I like it better than COD4. Having larger maps and less powerful grenades is nice.
- madpuppy, on 12/26/2008, -2/+8no, there was a 20 gig PS3 with no WiFi, it was a stripped down launch model that was sold at the same time as the 60 gig. here are a few links showing the specs of the 20 gig model.

http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=30342 - simoncallesen, on 12/26/2008, -0/+5Word of advice on the upgrade-hdd-thingy. Stay clear of 7,200rpm drives and stick to the 5,400rpm ones. The faster models generate quite a bit more heat than their younger siblings, and they really aren't that much faster.
That being said, get out there and upgrade. With storage being so cheap there really isn't any reason for not doing so. I put a 320gb WD Scorpio in there, and, although I'll probably never use that much space, being able to select "Download" on anything I want - is awesome. - Elranzer, on 12/26/2008, -2/+7The 20gb model came without the chrome trim, WiFi or memory card readers. Sony never released an official WiFi adapter for the 20gb model, as they pretty much did not care about that SKU. It had the hardware PS2 compatibility, though.
Now, all the low end models (40gb) have WiFi and the chrome trim, but missing the memory card slots and now don't have PS2 compatibility. - crashingechelon, on 12/26/2008, -1/+6I don't know if it's still like this but I'm pretty sure it is. If you buy an Xbox360 Elite it comes with an HDMI cable and the adapter for optical audio so you don't have to pay extra for it. Also you don't have to buy a branded HDMI cable, any HDMI cable will work fine. You can make the same complaint against the PS3 but the only difference it has the optical built into the system. So buy an Elite, it'll look nicer next to your PS3 than a white Pro system.
Cables based on system:
Xbox360 Arcade - Composite Cables
Xbox360 Pro - Composite and Component Cables
Xbox360 Elite - Composite, Component, and HDMI Cables
PS3 - Composite Cables
Now you tell me who rips you off with cables by making you pay extra. - DragonForce4, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4less powerful grenades?
play campaign on veteran and you will hate me for telling you to - DarkShroud, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4If you want games don't buy Macs.
- alchemist27, on 12/26/2008, -1/+5..multiples of 5 suck...it's all about 2 these days
- DarkShroud, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4Watching Hulu in on PS3 is pretty cool. The same goes for SouthParkStudios.com and other flash video sites. And if the PS3 browser ever gets moonlight then it will be able to do Netflix native without the PlayOn software.
- 2Bnor2B, on 12/26/2008, -0/+4'42' is the answer to the ultimate question of "Life, the Universe and Everything."
- maximatron, on 12/26/2008, -0/+4Not reading my e-mails on the Wii to get that constant blue glow is a "tip" Nintendo does not tell me ?
- bilbravo, on 12/26/2008, -0/+4You have to plug the PSP into the PS3 with the USB cable to register it.
- volacide, on 12/27/2008, -1/+5Define "quite a bit more heat," heat problems have more to do with the particular HDD than the actual speed, the best thing to do is just know the details about what HDD you are buying and how they do when it comes to heat and the like.
- volacide, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4Bah, the PS3 not coming with HDMI cables doesn't mean *****. HDMI cables are not expensive, not like quality WiFi adapters tend to be and you get that integrated with the PS3 among other things.
6$ for a 15 foot HDMI cable off monoprice.com, if you're buying cables anywhere else you're going to pay too much. - bilbravo, on 12/26/2008, -0/+3No. The trophies (obviously) are tired to a PSN ID and therefore the save files for games supporting trophies are tied to a PSN ID as well. Downloading PS3 game saves is not really possible for newer, trophy supporting games.
Note: That may not be entirely true, but that's how I understand it after reading some release about the Burnout: Paradise trophy update. It was supposed to be retro-active and give you trophies for things that were already completed but the dev team determined it wouldn't be possible. - themangeraaad, on 12/26/2008, -0/+3For wifi access on your xbox via laptop, the article says to bridge the connections (but in order to use internet on the laptop again you have to remove the bridge).
Instead of bridging the connections, select only your wireless connection and enable internet connection sharing (and enable "allow other machines to access internet through this machine" or whatever it is if they are seperate options). Select your ethernet port to share the connection with (should give you a dropdown menu. If you dont get a drop down just accept changes and then go back in a 2nd time, sometimes XP just provides a text box to type in) This gives you internet both on your laptop and your xbox. I don't know if you have to restart your computer before it will work, but I have been using this method to share my internet for years, I always leave my laptop on so I have constant live access, and still get internet on my lappy.
(You may have to disable simple networking or whatever it is. I know this works in XP but I don't know about Vista, I never tried sharing from my Vista machine but there may be a way, just look for internet connection sharing) - tomato1324, on 12/26/2008, -2/+5you're blind. or bad at math.
- Herochan, on 12/26/2008, -1/+3"We've put together a mini bible of our most popular tips and tricks that'll help you squeeze every ounce of functionality out of your console...If you're downloading something from the Wii shop, [and Mario's animation is wearing red and white], you can make him chuck fireballs with the A button."
OMG THAT IS SO HELPFUL.
I am unimpressed. :| - madpuppy, on 12/26/2008, -4/+6thanks, I couldn't remember if it was the 20 gig PS3 or the 360 core system.
- SuperMonkeyKing, on 12/26/2008, -2/+4Probably
- DarkShroud, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2@mud, because the PS3 has no official wired controllers. You were thinking of the 360 "core" model.
- mobislink, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2I assume the video chat for the PS3 will work while using a blue tooth headset. Can any one confirm this. Will it work with no headset at all with the sound coming from the TV speakers?
Make free video phone calls
You will need a USB headset (like the one you use for PS2 Socom) and an EyeToy camera. Plug in both via USB then go to your Friends menu. Choose a friend you've signed up earlier and press Triangle. Choose Start New Chat and type a message. Something like 'Videochat?' should do the trick. Now, providing they're in front of their powered-up PS3 (perhaps you could text them to tell them to be in position?) then they'll see your message and be given the option to accept your videochat.
Now, provided they too have a camera and headset, two windows will open, one showing you (so you can make sure you're looking your best), the other displaying your mate. Best of all you can hit Triangle again and invite more people to join your chat - up to a maximum of six. And the cost? Not a bean above your usual broadband connection charges. - ArmedRebel, on 12/26/2008, -5/+7"Microsoft's continued refusal to add a web browser to the 360 is infuriating, "
What? Web browsers on consoles are 100% gimmick, nothing else. - DarkShroud, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2The PS3 has many configurations for people to connect it to their HDTVs and/or receivers. Sony was damned if they do and damned if they didn't.
And let me tell you this. I didn't care much about the PS3 not having an HDMI cable over the 360 not having HDMI at all. The Elite was announced just after I could no longer return or exchange my 360. That pissed me off far more than having to buy a cheap cable. - FENWAYFREAK, on 12/26/2008, -1/+2Bill is right about the 2nd part as well, trophies aren't retroactive so people can't get them with game saves.
- mohsenxp, on 12/26/2008, -1/+2Yeah I prefer the single player on COD4 but the online on COD5 has won me over.
- crashingechelon, on 12/26/2008, -1/+2Since you can download game saves for the PS3 I wonder if you can do trophy boosting that way.
- Elranzer, on 12/26/2008, -1/+2That only applies to Blu-Ray movies, which have only three regions (as opposed to DVD's 7 or 8 regions). PS3 games themselves can be locked to a specific country, not just to the three movie regions.
- dustinjr1993, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1why the ***** would i want the wii blue light on anyways? it always pissed me off when im trying to sleep and my god dam wii is flashing cus ***** mario kart wii is telling me some tournament is going on at 12 at night!
- bilbravo, on 12/26/2008, -1/+2But you're paying extra for the Elite version. It may be cheaper than buying the adapters, but it's still silly.
- JonLatane, on 12/26/2008, -1/+2If you have a Mac, this becomes mind-numbingly easy.
1) Connect your Ethernet cable from Xbox to Mac OR Mac to LAN (if you want to share your ethernet connection with a Wii or PS3 via wireless).
2) In Internet Sharing (in System Preferences), select to share your Ethernet connection via Airport or your Airport connection via Ethernet.
3) Play your damn games. If you're connecting to your Mac wirelessly, the wireless network name will be the name of your Mac by default. - nevelfee, on 12/26/2008, -0/+1I like how you can download the same game to different ps3s.
TFM tells you gow to change the HDD though (which I found pretty useful as it allows me to use my PS3 as a linux box). Guess these guys feel too good to read it. - inactive, on 12/26/2008, -1/+2The reason Wii is cool is because it fits a niche that isn't filled by the more hardcore gaming rigs in the 360 and the PS3.
Christmas eve dinner hanging out with my dad and step mom over at their good friends house. After dinner they break out with the Wii on the big screen and we were all having a blast bowling and playing baseball and golf. That's something you can do on the Wii you'd probably never do on the other machines, play with the older generation and a good time had by all. -
