- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/11/2007, -3/+39How about a price cut and 65nm chips
- Step1Mark, on 10/11/2007, -5/+29thanks K Rock... Keep us posted on that ok K Rock?
Bye K Rock - loganhid, on 10/11/2007, -20/+40They should have also cancelled their E3 conference.
- akshay626, on 10/11/2007, -26/+43Couldn't afford it? Or maybe they realized they had nothing interesting to show.
- apoc06, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13the xbox360 isnt going anywhere, but you have to admit that 12 million fundamentally flawed consoles does count as a 'total ***** up'.
they better be around for a while. i dont want my $399 to be wasted and who else will keep nintendo and sony in check? - aapala, on 10/11/2007, -8/+17yeah, well the DC never sold more than a few million consoles, despite the fact that it was only &200 (and $100 near the end of its life).
360 already has over 10 million out there, so unless they totally ***** up (by say, canceling Halo 3), it'll be around for quite some time. - OhFrak, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14The whole Xbox project is now up to around 7 billion in losses for Microsoft.
Around 5 billion for the first Xbox.
A billion or two for the first two years of the 360.
And another billion just for the warranty extension.
The entire product line has a design defect that Microsoft has yet to show can be fixed. That is 9 to 10 million 360s out there that are going to continue to die over and over again. I can't imagine how Microsoft as a company can justify continuing on with console hardware. - kyrre, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12Sega sold 10.6 million Dreamcast consoles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamcast
That would be about the same as number of shipped xbox 360s. - compujunkie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9...hell yes, that's what I'm talking about. Cooler chips and you wouldn't need that stupid 3-year ring-of-death warranty!
- Sornos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I'm disappointed here. The E3 showing was of purely games coming out this Christmas season (with a few exceptions), and there are a lot of good games (I know a lot of fanboys will disagree, but a good game is a good game regardless of system) coming out soon. However, there were little to no announcements of future projects. That disappointed me at E3. I was hoping X07 would be the big release timing for Microsoft. Damn. Maybe TGS?
- adam84a, on 10/11/2007, -8/+15Oh crap, I did it again . . . I sabotaged another console that I loved by being an early adopter. First the Dreamcast, now the 360 . . . these recent events seem very familiar . . . let's hope they know what they're doing.
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10I could see how this decision was made.. They're thinking we've already seen all they have to offer for now, so why waste the money on showing reruns?
- Matteos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Well they have to pay for the warranty extension somehow.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Way to post a year old article from before Blu-ray even launched.
1.)Porn will be on both formats
2.)It's irrelevant anyway. This isn't the era of VHS...people get the bulk of the porn from the Internet. - Coda2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6One suggestion:
"I mean, you see Blu-Ray stuff all over the place..." is probably not the best way to counter an argument that HD-DVD is struggling. - kris33, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Porn is available on both platforms right now.
- AzDraon, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9I can't say I was ever terribly excited about any of them in the past. E3 maybe smaller from now on, but I still feel that they are the place to make big announcements. Either E3 or TGS.
- HolyChimp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Because people pay for porn...
- DAVIBE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5it comes to my amazement, how Xbox fanboys still love to defend their defective console. I mean wtf??!?!?! PS-fanboys, I can kind of understand, who praise their system at least they have some leverage because they've been playing on it for 15+years. but Xbox fanboys what are they so hyped about? they've been litteraly screwed on every Xbox system. And yet they still love Xboxs. whatever happen to getting out of abusive relationshop..lol..
- staticneuron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I am a bigger PS3 fan but I would not want to miss out on some good exclusive that MS has built up for their xbox line. I want halo 3, ninja gaiden 2 and fable 2. They messed up but I don't want them to exit gaming. I was saddened when sega left and I will almost be just as sad if MS leaves.
- HolyChimp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Why spend millions on an event that does the same thing as posting it to a blog?
- apoc06, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4didnt they retract that and announce that the ps3 version of madden will indeed run at 60fps? supposedly there was a mixup when they only meant that NCAA08 will only run at 30fps on the ps3. both versions of madden will be 60fps.
http://216.239.51.104/search?q=cache:OfSdnRaNfjAJ:gamers-creed.com/Consoles/PS3/23.html+kendall+boyd+fps&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=us&client=firefox-a - tatltat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4"E" For All? hehe..
- FreedomReign, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Leipzig, Tokyo Game Show, GDC, E3, all of those events get way more coverage than X0*, and they don't cost MS a dime for the venue, or on invites to the media, nor do they have to worry about security for all those shutterbugs, snapping pictures of Halo 3 beta.
Or am I the only one who remembers the piss poor videos on youtube last year? - jacksons98, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Microsoft isn't in the business to lose money dude. At some point they have to make a profit or they cut it altogether. That's business. Stock holders and investors care about one thing and that is: "how much more are we making than last year."
- Cipherr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Im interested into what in the hell is REALLY going on at Microsoft. This stuff is supposed to all be coincidence? Nothing but 07 Games shown at E3, Followed by the news story of the guy selling 6m in MS gaming stock out of nowhere which looks suspicious as hell, then you have Moore leaving. then X07 is cancelled.
I just wonder if there is something coming that they are bracing for, maybe they are going to issue a recall for those millions of 360's for a free replacement with a newly manufactured one in addition to offering that 3 year warranty so everyone everywhere is happy? Not saying they would do that, it would be bad for them, but Im just saying it almost looks like the early signs of an oncoming storm. Lets hope its just a coincidence of bad stuff happening. - Heartlandjr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Follow in the footsteps of Sega M$! LoL.
- apoc06, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3sony paid for the battery portion of dell, ibm and apple repair problems, and took the full brunt of the negative PR. the other apple issues seemed minor in comparison to that [at least in the public's eyes]. also, apple has had several generations of producing laptops with only "reasonable" defect rates. they've earned their reputation moreso than the xbox360, which is still very new in the eyes of the public. the xbox division is under the gun. between the xbox360's issues and the not too well received zune i still dont think they are going anywhere, but they will need to turn a profit pretty soon or things will not always run the same way for MS' games and entertainment dept.
im not an apple zealot, and i own an xbox360, but you have to admit that comparing their defect issues will have MS losing every time. 12 million admittedly flawed consoles, and thats just potential RRoD defect issues. - smergs, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Disclaimer - I own a xbox 360
I didn't know what X07 was anyway. Is it really that big of a deal? I thought the games shown for the 360 at E3 looked great. E3 was toned down this year from years past. I wasn't expecting any huge announcements from Microsoft at E3. I'm sure there will be announcements at TGS this year about other new stuff coming. So what if Peter Moore left and now this X07 thing not happening. I still love my 360. I don't think this is that big of a deal.
For the fanboys out there, I don't think it's going to make that big of a deal in the so called console wars either. I think from what we've seen so far, things are going to continue about the way they have been. - thepotatoman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Resident Evil 5 is 08 or beyond...
- Sirocco, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5No one wants to admit it, but he has a point to make. Xbox has been anything but a financial success and if they continue to do things the same way they will never post a consistent profit. Whether the 360 is a great machine or not is irrelevant. Eventually major shareholders will start asking why money continues to pour down the drain and the program will come to a close.
Don't confuse popularity for profitability. - staticneuron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, none of the companies announced any of the games scheduled for 2008. Maybe because to many eyes were watching E3 and would have lead to negativity over an unfinished product. I was hoping on seeing stuff at X07 that I "did not " know what was coming out. This E3 was dissapointing because they didn't show that many new IPs or games we already haven't seen news about.
- formulathree, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5
There's a reason for all of the bad news. The Xbox 360 will be discontinued as Microsoft is leaving the Videogame business. People are leaving the company, the division is bleeding money and class action lawsuits will eventually lead to a recall for the worst built console in the history of videogames.
Sucks to be an Xbox 360 owner, but then you deserve it. - DAVIBE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1its more like 13years and going...
(ps1 launched in 1994)
but still long... - SergeantRamRod, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Did anybody notice that the Sony fanboys are going through the comments, burying all comments that talk good about the 360 or at least defend it.
I for one love my XBOX 360 and Killzone 2 will NOT be a Halo killer, just like the first Killzone wasn't. Killzone looked pretty, but played like crap. - FreedomReign, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Too Expensive, and virtually invisible to fans. The event to be held in Korea, Canada, and the US is cancelled. This seems like a good move by MS. They had it in Toronto last year, and no one showed up.
Waste of energy. The Halo 3 launch can now pickup all that extra Marketing money they were going to flush down the drain. - themacx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1xbox 1080 on the horizon.. new chip same power HDMI and blu ray new design to allow build in HD...
- NYC10004, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It's simple. With the ability to preview things over LIVE and E3 already gone. it doesn't make sense to stage another event.
Not rocket science. - jacksons98, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4With the hardware issues, Peter Moore leaving, and the overall poor showing at E3; Xbox really needs all the exposure it can get. Why wouldn't they do this?? I'm no Xbox fan, but I don't think Microsoft could try any harder to kill the X360 the way they are going.
- NYC10004, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Not anymore, On-line changes the dynamic for just about everything. There's no reason for many of us to show up in person to these things, when we can just get it over the net in nothing but our underwear.
- FreedomReign, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Screwed how?
- jordanlund, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Speaking for myself, I have a launch Xbox that still works fine. I have a launch 360 that still works fine and a pile of great games to play on both that you'll never see on the PS3 or Wii.
- rowlodge, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5did'nt know there was an XO7 anyway...(?),maybe why
- jordanlund, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1This show is usually in September or October so there's no reason for having one this year. Everyone would already be playing Halo 3 or GTA by the time the show rolls around. It's not necessary this year.
- disciple83, on 10/11/2007, -9/+8Is HD-DVD dead? I mean, you see Blu-Ray stuff all over the place, but that is because Sony loves tossing cash in marketing for hype, look at the "PS3 Pricecut".
As far as defect repairs, look at Apple's laptop troubles, and they are still thriving, and continuing this mindless push that Macs are "simply better." Peter Moore is a man who is into video games, plain and simple. Just because he is leaving Microsoft doesn't mean it's over by a long shot. Go play in traffic or something. - mashw, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Apart from spelling cancelled wrong, this guy is right, don't bury him, do whatever the opposite of burying is.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2lol yeah because reading little boxes of text on the interface really compares to a large event such as E3, TGS, GD or X0_
- 3leggedHorse, on 10/11/2007, -13/+8360 is a ***** lame duck.
- GotMoobs, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Does anyone realize that a billion dollars to microsoft is nothing? if you look at the numbers for microsoft, they make cash 1 billion dollars a month, over the year, 12 billion dollars, do u know how much sony makes a year cash? 1 billion dollars. They can easily afford it. On top of that, All the games they have coming out this year, and next aka halo 3, ace combat 6, cod4, etc next year they got .... fable 2, they got halo wars, they got fall out 3 etc. so i really dont see where they are gonna fail anytime soon.
thank you and good bye - xXShadowstormXx, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4***** fanboy. GTFO.
