- racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+44Why is this submitted to digg every month???
- merdiesel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34I wonder if Destructoid dropped down after there little ***** up on here a couple months back.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+27people still use fileplanet?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23CheatCC.com is number 7, who the hell visits them?!!!
- mirzmaster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19GameTrailers 4tw! Nobody does HD video like they do. :)
- vaguilera, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Because is a monthly list! HA!
- dragonDC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14actually i think they're referring to an article that said they were systematically digging up their own articles. so no matter what they put on their site it would make it to the front page of digg.
- aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Yeah I was shocked to see it still Existed, it was the toilet of the internet gaming sites back in 99
But I guess a lot of these statistic trackers only come from people who willingly install what is nothing more than spyware on their internet explorer toolbars, (right next to their AOL, Yahoo, MSN, and Bonzai Buddy toolbars) So it sort of makes sense.
Checking it out: goddamn, the site got worse, I guess 1990's grade HTML + Flash ads + flash pop ups will do that to a site. (Note: No I'm not a dumbass, I'm running adblock and flashblock, I just wanted to see it in it's unfiltered glory) Heh, flash ads for a free designer Gucci handbag on a gaming site. Now thats targeted. - Tikkimann, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Actually, when I saw this list a few months back, it was at position # 22, so Destructoid's gone up it seems...in spite of our spite.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I remember the old days of file planets stupid queue and bandwith limits
- CerMakAlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Damn Kotaku, Lord knows they get 90 percent of their hits from their eye-grabbing headlines that end up being complete BS.
- atomicpoet, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Destructoid are the emo kids of the gaming world: smug, hipper-than-thou, but always whining about how they're misunderstood.
- loneraven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I agree, and gamespots website is horribly cluttered and hard to navigate at times.
- navitatl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6What was the *****-up? I must not have been present for it
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I dont go to the site itself much, but I love Gamespots audio podcast The Hotspot.
- aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5And it wouldnt let you use download resuming tools, and then your dial up would crap out halfway through a huge 15 megabyte rainbow six mod you were downloading all night.
Ah yes, I remember those days fondly... (I think thats why I still never ever go to the site) - Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It doesn't include Flash games, it's listing websites that post news, reviews and media related to games for the PC or a console, not a web browser.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6GameSpot sucks ***** now. They've been declining for the last few years, and now especially that they changed their rating system so that there are only 0.5 pt increments. IGN isn't much better - they tend to grossly overrate games.
I don't know where to look anymore when it comes to video gaming - EGM sucks now too. - skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Omg! It's all one page! Dugg!
- kingdox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I think it's awesome that G4 isn't on that list.
- sethosayher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I've been on Gamefaqs since...forever. Good to see it at number 3.
- doshindude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I remember fileplanet's retarded "game music" vault. Back when I had dial-up I actually put up with waiting for advertisement pages to download one file at a time. Now I have much better ways. Fileplanet is stuck in the Web 1.0 era.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Old days?
- quamb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Agreed. Editors succumbing to the hype-machine $$.
Was there a "professional" review anywhere that said "Yeah, Bioshock has some good ideas, but aint that fun." or "Halo 2 single player is pretty damn dissapointing" etc etc? Where are these non-hyped reviews to give us the heads up before we fork out the dough? - atomicpoet, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7And what better way of gaining popularity than by reporting on others' popularity?
- Ceeman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3alexa is such crap for rankings. Might as well do google fight to rank them.
- arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wow, I'm surprised Gamershell isn't on that list. That site is almost always one of the top 10 results on Google when searching for games.
- GodIsntReal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Pretty good list but i think GS and GFaqs should be moved up one and IGN down 2 spots.
- vinnythekidd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I like how GamePr's tagline is "Where Gamers Come First" when they're actually 16th...
Also I was surprised to see Gametrailers so low. I love that site. - Konrad9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What, no HBO?
- terrya64, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Gamespot is and will be # 1 to me. IGN has all sorts of crap, comics tv, movies dvd ect...
- Harbinger67, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I completely agree about IGN. They're one of my most hated sites, simply because it's so painfully obvious that it views its users as nothing but cash cows. Ever use their message boards? They now have a bot that posts links to stories on the main IGN page and subpages, just to try to get more traffic. Oh, and spamming is against the ToS for everyone else :|
- Vodka2389, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Ign also has movies and stuff, so it's not really fair. I think Gamespot is #1 overall for games.
- DoctorEvil, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4never heard of cheatcc.com either.
- NWVG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How about ShackNews? I looked up their Alexa ranking (About 11,000) and they have nearly 160,000 visitors according to Compete, which means they should be on the list.
- LightPhoenix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Right, so where's the real list? All of those massive conglomerates only exist to "sell" gaming just like Nintendo Power used to sell Nintendo. When they get some actual video gaming sites up there (aside from GameFaqs - no brainer, even if they were bought out), I'll be impressed.
- McTendo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You may not like Destructoid but Hudson apparently does. Destructoid is the first gaming blog ever to have their mascot appear in a video game. (Bomberman Live)
- smek2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nice to see IGN on spot #1 on that list. Those ***** selling out to publishers, their website is almost breaking from the weight of advertising, the use a gazillion useless javascripts and routinely selling whole articels to the airforce or the army. Yep, the army and the air-force "sponsor" certain videogame articles. Nothing wrong with that, know your target group, get 'em young... Oh, and the way they present their content (ie the one paragraph "updates", the hands-on-pre-previews and the daily screenshots) reminding me of a TGP pornsite.
- Thorpe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I've always preferred GameSpot. Lots of free live events coverage. Can even watch the E3 press conferences live and free every year.
- Comanche, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I am an IGN Gamespot guy. If 1up would design their site a bit better, I would visit them alot more then I do. Although The 1up show (their vid podcast) is quite enjoyable.
- Synn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm surprised Gametrailers wasn't higher on the list.
- Perfectsound, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The Wiire?
- Jenovaside, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i use the top 3 religouly, but other then that , no. digg will give me all the obscure news that is not on ign or gamespot, so i don't need to look at 22 others. gamefaq means never buy a guide, useful for that one spot you get really stuck. And file planet is beyond abysmal, im suprised it manages that much trafic.
- shelbygt33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I visit n4g now and the, and all I can say is that it is just a huge group of ps3 fans high-fiving themselves after making jokes about the 360. Very, very lame site.
Completely overrun with fanboys. - LTSVN, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4IGN is by far my favorite.
- Archcoder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2People still use CheatCC.com? Didn't they get sued for trying to copyright cheat codes or something stupid a few years back?
- zehrila, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Almost none of these sites are Mom/Pop sites, i really like http://gamefaqs.com and http://gamecheats.eu tho
- Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4That's an interesting opinion, especially considering that IGN seems to be one of the few sites that doesn't give games like Bioshock or Halo 3 an automatic 10 via hype. I'd like to see a more standardised review method on a site though, with a breakdown of each point awarded and the criteria that got it that award, instead of just "Gameplay", "Sound", etc.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, these statistical figures, which are not in any way derived from someone's personal opinion, are obviously nothing but "BS". *roll eyes*
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What a crap list, no Peny Aracade. Shame internet shame.
