WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2007 (THQ) - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Not everybody has 1000 bucks to go spend on video games. In fact, most people don't...
- nklnch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Army of Two isn't 360 exclusive either. That has been officially announced for both PS3 and 360. Was that ever supposed to be 360 exclusive?
- adamchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16cause sony would make plans to meet with me, then not show.
- tenken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Good call there. I forgot about those titles because I was just going by the IGN list, which is an unorganized mess. Post will be updated at some point. I wouldn't hold my breath about DMC 4 exclusivity though-- Capcom is treating the 360 very well and there's even rumor that Namco will jump ship as well--
- nklnch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13360 also has Crackdown and Alan Wake and Forza for 2007. All great looking exclusives. Gears is an '06 exclusive
- adamchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Well digg did start as a technology website. This is in the technology section. Xbox360 is a nice piece of hardware. Maybe "fanboy orgy" should be changed to "singing of praise". So far, in next gen console war, microsoft has done one of the better jobs of promising and delivering. PLAYSTATION 3 . . . not so much.
- NecroSexy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10If the Wii flops online, then I'd give the edge to the XB in '07.
- adamchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Korexz has a good point. Especially when he backs it up with so many hard facts.
- CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Gears of War
Bioshock
Mass Effect
Halo 3
...nuff said - snoox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14so any old blogger who rips on the PS3 gets front page on Digg now??
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"Are there any other genres on the 360?"
Bioshock and Halo are the only FPSs on that list. The rest are third-person, and Mass Effect is an RPG. - adamchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14lets not ignore the facts here. sony promised amazing things with the PLAYSTATION 3 and didn't deliver.
- chapium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I see more articles about wii than xbox. If anything its an orgy of various fanboy orgies.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Crackdown demo is gonna be on XBL in a few weeks. I believe it's a multiplayer demo.
- nklnch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"L.A Niore is not an exclusive.......The official site says it is for NEXT-Gen systems......360/ps3"
From an interview (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=54626)
"Brendan McNamara: The project is wholly funded by Sony Computer Entertainment America. We have a long-term exclusive arrangement with SCEA."
That sounds pretty exclusive to me. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Um, BlackKnight, nobody cares about your computer.
- zachgc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@Korexz
What are you talking about? Mass Effect is an RPG, as is Too Human which I don't think anyone else has mentioned yet.
Edit: Stonedonkey beat me to it. - psikorsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's true that in terms of quality titles the 360 looks to win hands down, but the vast majority of my friends are casual gamers who are blindly loyal to the Playstation brand. Their libraries consist of Tekken, Tony Hawks, Need For Speed, Pro Evo or Madden and maybe GTA. This makes me think that PS3, therefore, could enjoy undeserved success.
- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6How can you tell the difference between a fanboy (thinks a system is better and know snearly nothing about the system and other systems and possibly not even own the system they praise) and some logical person that critically examines the consoles and found one to be the best for them because it had more pros than cons over the rest and find it to be the best for many others as well?
- LittleDanzig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Most likely, the 360 will continue to be the industry leader in third-party titles simply because the hardware is easier for developers to work with -- it's been around longer, its nuts and bolts are based on proven and familiar technology, and most studios have been developing 360 games for close to three years now. So, if your rationale for which system will come out on top is merely the quantity of 'big releases', you are completely correct.
However, I tend to think (and hope) that the DS and Wii have opened a lot of people's minds to the concept that true innovation in gaming isn't going to come by recasting the same old FPS titles with updated graphics and a couple new weapons. I think that the average 'mercenary gamer' (that is to say -- those who don't swear allegiance to one particular company or, for that matter, genre of game) is at a point now where he or she has been introduced to a new paradigm, where the focus is placed on new and exciting and more immersive ways of controlling and interacting with the game rather than the endless rehashing of familiar themes with better and better graphics and faster frame rates.
As an expatriate of the video gaming industry, I witnessed frequently how much emphasis is put on the aesthetics of games as opposed to how much fun they might be to play. I think the average gamer out there is still going to enjoy a fresh idea far more than yet another "run around and kill stuff with guns" affair, regardless of whether fluid cloth dynamics or some new groundbreaking AI scheme is introduced. Like it or not, while the 360's lineup is certainly more robust than its competitors, the vast majority of the titles still just seem to be another round of endless updates of the same game we've all been playing since Castle Wolfenstein 3d.
I'm hoping, and this might be colored too much with my own opinions here, that the short-term success of the Wii has opened up the buying public's eyes to the fact that video games are still an evolving form of entertainment. It seems to me that the general thrust behind both the PS3 and the X360 was to "improve upon an already solid concept" rather than to pursue any sort of true innovation -- which is functional, yes -- but I like to think that at this point most people would require a little more than a hardware upgrade (regardless of how major) to justify spending half a grand on what is, ultimately, a toy.
So, ultimately, the tale remains untold, but my money's on the fact that the Wii / DS phenomenon will have opened the gaming market a little bit to what I refer to as "open-blinds" gamers -- the types of folks who enjoy gaming but maybe have grown to associate it with a certain type of nihilistic hermit that has sort of defined how gamers are viewed by mainstream culture. Yes, plenty of 360's and PS3's will sell regardless, but to a niche market at best, and I see the Wii in general as being far more of the type of iPod-like accessory that a married man could buy with his family's blessings, as opposed to the PS3 or X360, which I believe many people still associate with twelve year olds swearing with each other over voice chat while playing shoot-everything-that-moves type of titles. Ultimately, I think public perception will be the make-or-break for consoles as gaming moves into its more "mature" and "adjusted" phase -- and the Wii, which is marketing itself fully as a family product holds the edge here in my eyes when compared to the marketing strategies of Microsoft and Sony, which both seem to still be targeting the 'alienated teenager' market -- an interesting strategy considering the cost of the item itself.
Damn, that was a whole lot of rambling. - Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Bioshock and Halo 3 are both FPSes, but they're really not alike. People should try to pigeon-hole games like that.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've got a Wii and a 360... and I've gotta half-agree with you... Firstly, it's foolish to call all pre-Wii games "button mashers". Secondly, 360 has a ton of really fun games to play, the silly myth that "only Wii games are fun" is just ridiculous. That being said, I absolutely hate aiming using control sticks, and I really wish it were somehow possible to use my Wiimote in Gear of War... A system that's got games and graphics like the 360, but controls like the Wii, is what I'm really looking forward to... But I'm guessing I won't be seeing it until Nintendo's next console...
- Shamrock13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I love the Digg.com effect.
Anyway, I am happy to call myself an Xbox 360 owner. I wouldn't want it any other way. :p - TheGrizah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Since Alan Wake and Bioshock are both still PC games. I'm getting them for my PC and I still see no huge reason to get a 360. I like Gears of War, and Too Human still has its promises to keep. And if Resident Evil 5 ends up being kick ass enough...I might get a 360.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6My point-zero-two dollars (not point-zero-two cents):
As a college student, I have to say that the 360 is nice because it is (slightly) cheaper, has a larger library of games, and XBL has the advantage over PSN. On the other hand, the Wii is a solid choice for games that can incorporate drinking, as well as interactivity that draws in non-gamers (i.e., girly girls that don't normally get into video games). - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Looking forward to Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed in 2007; beyond that..not much to see.
- interrogate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Just a bunch of button mashing? So I suppose there were no exclusive games before the Wii, right? Video games must have sucked so much before Nintendo saved us all!
- CrimsonBlur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree, unfortunately I really can't afford to buy a PS3 at any point in the foreseeable future. I know a ton of people in that position that didn't really have a problem saving up for a 360. A couple hundred extra dollars can really make the difference between something you have to save up for and something you just can't afford to buy (or aren't willing to make the sacrifices to buy it). I'm pretty sure at some point I will buy a Wii because it's so much cheaper, too bad the controllers are so damn expensive!
- DeathSun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, the article was a LOT more even-handed and fair then what I was expecting.
...of course, compared to some of the comments left on Digg, "Mein Kampf" would even seem even-handed. - FlakPyro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5yep pretty much if you post "sony sux 360 rulez" or something along that line you get at least 10+ diggs it seems, post something positive about sony and its -10 no matter what..funny if the entire gaming population was the same as digg.com PS3s wouldn't be wanted by anyone..the console hasn't even been out 3 months yet alone 6 months..let alone a year and (digg) people have already past judgment..kinda sad really
- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Bioshock, like Deus Ex and System Shock, are FPS/RPG hybrids, just thought you should know.
- FlakPyro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I plan to use the PC and PS3 as my main sources of gaming goodness, if you got a good PC why bother with a 360 since all the good 360 games find their was to PC if not at the same time later on down the road. That leaves me with PS3 as my console of choice, wii personally just does not interest me. I already expect to get dugg down for having a non pro wii opinion.
- somekids, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6The X360 does have nice graphics (and for a good cost), but what's up with all the FPSes. The Xbox controller is just plain uncomfortable for those type of games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yes, it asked a questioned and i answered it based on obvious signs that the wii is more successful at the moment. your point?
- Lobut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3*sigh* ... the article wasn't about bashing the ps3.
If you consider pointing out flaws to be bashing then you're not mch better than the ones you criticize. - yohan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22007 is year of the PC for sure. Vista/DX10 FTW.
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The Wii is the perfect console to play while drunk. Endless amounts of laughter! :P
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I'll be picking up FFXIII for 360 right after Dawkins drives me to Church on Sunday.
- kxprison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From Korexz blog, "Sony will close their video game operations by January 1, 2008."
You're either retarded, or Ms. Cleo, (or both!). - adamchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@FlakPyro
(granted this ebay sales isnt the deciding factor on who won the console wars but) go to ebay and do a search for wii (systems only) and PS3( also systems only). My search has about thirty Wiis with at least seven bids on them. Out of the top thirty PS3 auctions there are only about seven that have a single bid.
That tells me that the at least some of the gaming population IS like digg. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Ignignokt01:
Don't forget the $1000 is just for the two consoles, let alone overpriced accessories and $60 games o_O - BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Or it could be the majority of people that visit Digg (12 year olds aside) find the 360 to be better...
- zeeeg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'd like to believe that Alan Wake and Bioshock will be great on the PC but past experience has taught me that when a game is on the 360 and PC, it was almost assuredly developed with the 360 in mind and the PC version will be a quick port with many problems.
- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well Half-life 2 didn't do so good going to the xbox...
I found the GTA series alot better on the PC, as well as the Max Payne series, Hitman series, Splinter Cell series, Thief series (well 3), Doom, Armed and Dangerous, and so on and so forth.
Only game that was worse on the PC (Due to horrible porting by Gearbox and causing much too steep system reqs) was Halo, though it did look better, you needed too good of a computer for good framerate. - FlakPyro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5seems that way..
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So far Xbox 360 is looking to be the strongest one.
- uberlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wii has already screwed up with online play, and that's a major factor. But we've already seen that it doesn't make a huge difference in sales.
Over 3 million in one month? I mean, sure it was the X-mas season, but that number proves how well the wii is and will be doing.
I'm not saying I don't want great online, but the wii is so far ahead, it's 3 million steps forward and one step back with the whole online scenario. - Korexz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, here you need some proof?
http://www.korexz.com/2006/12/31/where-is-all-the-proof-that-there-are-ps3s-sitting-on-store-shelves/
EVERY 5 MINUTES they were announcing that there were PS3s for sale.
I was talking to my girlfriend and stated "No one wants the PS3, because it is in fact a piece of *****"
One passerby agreed with me whole heartedly... He was sold on the idea early on, but then saw the price and lack of content.
Face it SonyFanboys, you are scared... and rightfully so! - kxprison, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why is this guy getting dugg down for pointing out/correcting the inaccuracies in the subpar blog? I swear, Digg is going to h3ll when people get dugg down for pointing out the truth. There was not even a negative tone in his post, and he was just pointing out that there are more exclusive titles than the blog mentioned, (just like the Xbox 360 will have a lot of exclusives). This fanboyism crap has to stop now, because bloggers basically have Zero credibility due to garbage stories like this.
