- harikaried, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A quick search shows probably 400k units in the first month in the US.

"40,000 units appeared on eBay during the initial month of release, which would mean that 10% of the total supply was resold."
"North American sales totaled 326,000 units in November" - davidv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never said the controller isn't innovative, but the hardware has been around for a while now, it would be more surprising if they didn't have a large numbers of units at launch.
In fact just the numbers speak for how well in supply the wii hardware is, 360 had ~400k and ps3 will have ~400k, but the wii will have 10 times as many units at launch. What do you think, Nintendo just happens to be that much more efficient at making products? - tonictaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish this was an official press release but I have my doubts as to the validity of this article.
That being said, this would be an awesome feat if Nintendo manages to have this many Wiis at launch. This would make Nov. 19 a much easier day for many folks waiting in lines. - tonictaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't believe they've recycled old gamecube parts as IBM has been working on the chip for the Wii for several years. They did use similar structuring to the Gamecube so that it would be easier for them to develop for and easy to build upon. Nintendo is playing this smarter than PS3 or Xbox because they have made a great system while saving money on resources because they have created an upgrade (PC processors go through this all the time with little complaint from consumers) of their previous systems processors.
This many units is an awesome feat because they are making the consumer happy by having easier access to the system for the consumer and putting a positive image on their console directly compared to the PS3's limited launch, which will be hard to find and very expensive. - Easty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Didn't the 360 ship with 1.5m units in America, and there were shortages?
Or was it worldwide? I'm confused. - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1davidv is right. Didn't you guys see the motion sensor controller they put out for gamecube?
/sarcasm - davidv, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Why would it be amazing? It's basically GC hardware.
