- gaspero1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Believe it or not, Toys-R-Us seems to keep the price of their products in their system for years, without updating them if they discontinue a product but still have it in their inventory. I worked for Toys-R-Us in 1992. We were remodeling the store at night. We tore the shelving unit apart where the action figures were displayed and found an original Luke Skywalker action figure in the box and in perfect condition caught in the framework of the display. We carefully removed the package from the framework to discover it had a price tag of $1.98. This caused a brawl over who actually saw the box first. The manager used his seniority to claim the Skywalker, and purchased it for $1.98 plus tax, which is what the computer system rang the skywalker up as... regular price. At the time, a mint Skywalker was worth $70 in an unopened box, according to a star wars fanatic that we worked with.
- dewey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now I miss my virtua, and it's huge game library of like, 5 games total. The thing hurt your eyes so much, but it seemed so futuristic. Not to mention Nights Into Dreams on the saturn.
- tripletrouble42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sony Playstation: "3-D graphics...3-D realism!"

- RAT-Man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bah. It's for Canada. Most of those SNES games were $69.99 in America when they came out.
- Cyrealm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah, memories.
- aznchaosfryk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW!! THOSE WERE THE DAYS... At that time is was like WOW!! it was sooo worth it! now its like.... uh... wow.... its like thinking about buying a video card.
- Jarrod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Love the Sega Genesis "Garfield: Caught in the Act" game for 89.99!

- Choppy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice!
- jamsea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Half Life 2 is still 70-80 bucks over here in Canada... I love how the sega gennesis came with coloumns, that game was so freaking awesome, it was the only one I could play with my mom :P I totally remember games costing that much, I only had like 6 games for my Sega, and most of them were second hand ones (heck my sega was even second hand). I really hope Sega will put some of their games up on the Revolution when it comes out, it'd be soooo awesome to play some of the old games I used to have again.
- dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hehe, stupid kid with his virtual boy. whats he looking at in that thing anyway? hardcore pr0n? gotta be with the size of those eyes
- RichMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0199.99 for a Virtual Boy, bah, that isn't worth it. I got mine at Toys R Us for $19.99 (of course, that was when it was out for a while and didn't sell well). It came with Mario Tennis, but I also bought Wario Land and Teleroboxer (for $4 each) and an AC adapter (around $7, AC adapter is a must since it takes 6 AA batteries to run and it's only 1-2hours worth of gameplay till they're drained)
I should probably go on eBay or something and get some more games for it. - PurpmaN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0to the guy who said half life 2 is still 70-80 bucks canadian, where are you looking, i work beside an EB and they have it for 49.99 CDN... and i remember going NUTS for that nomad, but i never got one :(
- digicanmon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey those prices are way too high even in Canadian dollars. That's like 30 dollars more than what a new game(PS2 & Xbox) costs now in Canada.
- thadesiest1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dont understand why the nomad wasn't a hit. I mean it was a handheld whose games were the same as the console so you could take your favorite console games with you anywhere. I would've bought it back then if i had the money.
- NailToTheX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Need to get some older ones on the go... like the atari with the faux wood paneling
nahhhwwwah that's what I'm talking about
i recall the old machine in the 79 Sears xmas catalog going for 600 or 700 bucks.... possibly more
i need to go hunting for old catalog stuff now... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like Canada.
- TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oooh its Canadian dollars...makes so much more sense now
- fuzzboxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bah, Canadian. Quit making it out to be more than it is, digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i got my nomad at a EB new for $60
- MaxPowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You tards... Even if it is Canadian dollars thats still freakin expensive, I remember paying 80 dollars each for Nickelodeon Guts and MKIII. I was 8 back then and my mom helped me buy them ;)
- lintmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's a site for converting to American dollars:
http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/rates/exchform.html
For example, the SNES Doom for $94.99 Canadian was "only" $70.49 American. Still a lot, but that's really quite a difference. - motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0America = 11th province
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looking back--the sega saturn launched in 1995 for $399. the sony playstation was $299 and launched months later. i remember seeing the sega saturn in a video game magazine while sitting in a doctor's office. that doctor's office kicked ass. i mean, come on, video game magazines in a doctor's office! anyway, i nearly ***** my pants! i remember seeing the kinds of games it had. they looked incredible. in december 1995 my older brother received a sony playstation and two games along with it--tekken and madden. tekken was the greatest game i had ever played; and madden looked SO freakin' real! one of my friends had a nintendo 64. i pitied her. who wants to play mario all day? while she was playing mario, i was playing metal gear solid at my friend's house (a game that pulled you right in with it's impeccable graphics and superb storyline). sure, the n64 was only $199, but the games cost a fortune compared to the playstation.
step by step, we've seen consoles and their games get better and better. however, while the price of games has fallen, the price of game SYSTEMS has risen. in 1989 an NES cost $199. in 1991 an SNES cost the same. in 1995 a sony playstion cost $299--a considerable amount more. however, here is when we saw the price of games fall. nearly half a decade later, a ps2 cost the same as a ps1. one year later, i'd say, this is when things went sour. micro$oft released their xbox for the same price as a ps2. however, it had much better hardware, the ability to connect to the internet, and last, but not least, a HARD DRIVE. it was revolutionary! it changed the console world. it caused micro$oft to lose BILLIONS. even though people were buying this console, micro$oft was losing money. the console was just too good, as in, it was too good, therefore it was too expensive to produce.
with the next generation xbox 360, we'll see another increase in the cost of console systems. however, nothing has really changed. we're still playing games off dvds. however, this time it's HD-DVD! *pfft* if you're gonna give me a reason as to why the xbox 360 is going to cost $399, it better not be fact that it has a tri-core processor, or gddr ram, or a meager 20gb hdd. i can live without the processor and ram, and a 20gb hdd does not cost that much nowadays. most games won't take advantage of the processor, anyway. the ram is a nice touch, but i could still live with plain ole' ddr (as long as there's enough). the playstation is a bit better. at least it has blu-ray. however, it still has all this new-age technology in it, including a cell processor and xdr/gddr ram. console manufacturers are just trying to out-do one another, and they're passing the cost onto customers. they're basically turning their machines into PCs! all we need, all we WANT, is something to play cheap console games on.
(by the way, for anybody who was wondering, the atari jaguar only had 32-bit graphics/sound. there were 64-bit processors, but they only managed the system. tom and jerry were the two 32-bit graphics processors) - generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that Earthbound box looks like a mock up unless Canada didn't get the players guide. Earthbound shipped in a huge box in the US.
