- gsthomas606, on 02/05/2009, -3/+77"Key to Johnson's success was carefully planned use of the game's Star Power points multiplier and months of strenuous practice, which included the destruction of "about 80 plastic Guitar Hero controllers."
"When you’re hitting that many notes and playing that fast, it just terrorizes the controller," Johnson's father remarked."
Who buys their child 80 Guitar Hero controllers? Have we entered the day where parents are living vicariously through their children's video game success? - victimofkratina, on 02/06/2009, -3/+41sigh...read the article *****
"Danny, who plays piano, guitar, drums, saxophone and oboe in real life, said his Guitar Hero prowess made it easier to complete complicated sequences on an actual guitar.
“Oh, there’s no question Guitar Hero helps,” he said. “Like when you go from Guitar Hero to doing real quick hammer-ons on a real guitar, it’s actually pretty easy.” - briguymaine, on 02/06/2009, -1/+35I'm a parent of two girls and it's fun to watch them try new things, it's even more fun to watch them stick with something and see them progressively get better. It must be a blast for that Dad to see his kid become the very best. I would be proud of my kids no matter how trivial the activity might seem to people because it's important to the kid and good practice for real life, sticking with something. And he's 14, that's great, if he was 25 and quit his job to "train" it would be sad.

- preppypoof, on 02/06/2009, -2/+16i don't know how they say that he has the record. chris chike got over 987k on this song months ago, and somebody else got slightly higher than that a few months later. it's all over youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5GpRJItqjw

He plays real guitar as well. - J0hnnyBlaze, on 02/06/2009, -5/+15but can he play acoustically?
- mattyboy555, on 02/06/2009, -0/+10According to red octane website, a standard guitar controller cost $59.99
multiply that by 80 guitars = 4800$ worth of controllers.

- delriomusic, on 02/06/2009, -1/+9I guess it's time to put away the real music equipment and pick up guitar hero, maybe then I'll get a deal! Nice going man, don't spend all the endorsement money on hookers and blow!!!

- mikbunn, on 02/06/2009, -0/+6He has an endorsement, so they probably bought a good deal of the controllers. The Wired article is wrong about the record-breaker getting him an endorsement - he already had it for a webcast he stars in.
This was submitted from the NY Times yesterday. - Stormwern, on 02/06/2009, -1/+6" a point that should illustrate the growing popularity (or, perhaps, perceived novelty) of competitive gaming."
E-sports will never hit big in the west until promoters stop focusing on the newest hottest game and start focusing on games that actually make good sports. - logantn, on 02/06/2009, -1/+6eMg? Endorsement deal?
Tell me I'm not the only gamer on digg. - Mo0eY, on 02/06/2009, -0/+5You have to be in front of a panel of judges from whichever world record company is doing it (supposedly Guiness World Book of Records). Chike pulled off 880k last time or something, and this kid outdid that official score giving him the world record.
- MasterGrief, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4too late

- Cheesecrunch, on 02/06/2009, -1/+4The organization that "wasted" the time and money, is a gaming organization, not a music one. So if they didn't spend the money on this event and child, then the money would of gone somewhere else, perhaps to finding the best Laura Croft look alike, or something even worse. The chances of eMazingGaming.com using the same money to find a "killer local band" are zero. That money never would of gone to anything such a finding a real band. It was a video game event, not a music one. Maybe you should create your own organization to discover local talent?
