#1-Color, White is a fine color, yes I would prefer black but lets be honest here, I didnt buy a 360 to stare at the unit itself.
#2-No killer games? I beg to differ. Kameo is an amazing game thats looked over but almost everyone. Condemned is good fun, PGR3 is racing bliss, and Perfect Dark Zero is good in single player and great in multi. There are more games worth owning but ill keep it short
#3-I gotta agree MS is killing on the price of controlers but you do get what you pay for in most case's, the control is quality and the recharge kit is nicely priced considering its longenvity and quick charge times.
#4-20 gigs isnt all that big, but since you can stream your audio and video from a PC over your LAN is that really a big deal? No its not, its a good size for downloading game content, demos and trailers via XBL and bigger ones are coming. Plus you can hook externals up to it via USB if you want to.
#5-I didnt buy a console to use a keyboard and mouse, in fact it would be pretty much impossible to use one while relaxing in my love sac. If i wanna game with a table/desk ill use my pc
#6-No built in wifi does suck ill agree there, and I dont know why they charge so much for the adapter but the good news is any wireless receiver that plugs in via USB works just fine. I got one for $35
#7-Not enough USB ports? 3 isnt enough? Its a game console not a pc, and USB hubs work just fine with it too, stick one behind the console if your so worried but the 3 on the console allow me to plug in my ipod, psp and camera just fine all at the same time.
#8-No HDMI or DVI is a small problem when you consider its just a cable and one will be out in not to long a time. The 360 doesnt need a special port for it, it will plug into the video output in the back of the console like everything else.
#9-No built in card read? please tell me this guy is kidding, listen bud its a game console with some extras, its not a all in one super media center.
#10-I got two, whats your problem? Didnt even pre-order.
It sounds like this guy is just making excuses because he couldnt buy one, yea it sucks but you will get one so who cares, 95% of the reasons listed in this article as just plain stupid. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It is the author's opinion, his opinion why he doesn't like the Xbox 360. These aren't 10 reasons why I or we shouldn't get an Xbox 360... Like others have said, only very few are valid points but many aren't.
Seriously, the console is white - that is a reason why I shouldn't get an Xbox 360? It has no 'killer launch titles' - that is a reason why I shouldn't get an Xbox 360? Like I said, this is what the author dislikes about the Xbox 360, not reasons why we shouldn't purchase the console. - ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Do I own the ONLY 360 that doesn't over heat?
- timmyt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The writer of the article included a lot of good points, but he left out some other important factors; the heating & sensetivity concerns with the console itself.
Most of those reasons is why I won't be wasting to purchase the 360. All Microsoft did was rush production to get the 360 out to the public in time for the holiday season to make money.
At least Sony had the guts and brains to continue to develop the PS3, dispite the late release date. The PS3 will most likely experience little problems compared to the 360. - mavranos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Weak. Only one valid reason- you can't get one.
- gklitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"20GB is too small"??? 20GB is enough if iyou are going to use the Xbox 360 as a gaming console. If you want more space then stream content.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"In response...I like the colors too, but cmon...some of your points are a little ridiculous. 20 gigs in not nearly enough today."
Maybe 20 gigs isnt enough for a PC but for a console it should be plenty for quite a while, bigger drives will come out when they are needed but considering on the 1st Xbox I had about 150 songs, 400+ save games a ton of downloaded content and I still never cracked the 50,000/50,000 blocks in the dash I would say we got plenty of room, after all that drive was only 8 gigs and only 3 of them were available to the user. You people are just looking for a reason to bitch, its that simple.
Bad graphics? Try playing PD0, Kameo, or PGR3 on a high definition tv and tell me about bad graphics, they beat anything on PC today.
Overheating? Maybe if you dont give your console some room to breathe, hell even the PS2 and Xbox overheat without proper ventilation. Mine hasnt overheated and its currently been running for 4 days without being shut off. - MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This article is pointless.
This guy's fanboyism shouldn't be any more noted just because he happens to work for Cnet.
You don't like the 360? Don't get it. One less ***** I have to encounter on Xbox Live. - starman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Moron. No digg.
- RootDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow, the XBOX fanboys came out in force today...
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's funny, usually competition is an advantage to the consumer, but I think in this case the highly competitive console market is actually harming the quality and value of products released by MS/Sony/Nintendo.
It seems that a lot of those points brought up in the article are there because of Microsoft's cost cutting. And the only reason why they're cost cutting is because the need to stay compeitive with their rivals. - geek_xyu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"The 360 works as advertised." -mindtrigger
Did microsoft advertise a system that damages discs. Over heating power supplys almost as large as the core system. Incompatable xbox games such as the brand new prince of persia. I can't wait to play all of the best titles that will lock up mid game. - guitarjunky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't trust anybody's opinion on a console when they can't tell the difference between white and beige :P
- mntpng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why are XBOX fanboys here busy defending it like they are an extension to Microsoft marketing department? Shouldn't they be glued to their XBOX 360 playing it? If XBOX 360 so great, how can they tear themself away from it? Are they that bored with it already?
- siralphred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wtf? its a console not a super computer, talking about not enough usb ports, why would you want to use a mouse and a keyboard on your xbox360?, ingrates like him will never be satisfied, sounds more like sony paid him to diss the xbox360
- quentinp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reason #11, Just got a new graphics card for half the price :)
- pmwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah...misleading title. It's just 10 things the guy wants to whine about...not 10 reasons not to buy.
Besides, I can't think of ANY system that you couldn't list a bunch of gripes/suggestions/improvements for. It doesn't make that system unworthy of a purchase.
No digg. - mattw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well now that I know the color looks retarded I'm not going to get one! Hell, I guess I won't be able to buy any next-gen console for that matter... What I really like about this article is how it saw straight thru all the hype.
- jasonjday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a terrible article.
You don’t like the color? That’s not a valid reason. I didn’t like the look of the GameCube, but I am not going to bash the console based on the look of the box. That is just silly.
No killer games… have you even played a 360?
Accessories cost a small fortune for every game system. Get used to it… it ain’t gonna change.
The hard drive is plenty big enough… what are you planning on doing with this thing? You can stream your music from your PC. I think you are just looking for reasons to cry now.
No keyboard or mouse support. Last time I checked this wasn’t a PC, but I am sure if there is a demand for one (and money to be made) someone (like Logitech) would love to sell you one.
No Wi-Fi… at first I was upset about this but then I realized that I don’t need it and really everyone I know wouldn’t need wireless. We all have networks ran to our TV’s for our original Xbox.
USB ports… how many do you flippin’ need? What are you running this thing to do? Trying to take over the world with your HD and USB ports on your 360.
No HDMI or DVI… you answered this for yourself: “Not that HDMI or DVI is going to make a huge difference” Its saves on the cost of the system.
Why do you need a card reader? You can get to your photos on your PC! Did you even read the documentation with the Xbox?
Limited supply… guess what it was like that with PS2 and it will be like that with PS3 and the Revolution. That is the way supply and demand works.
Just come out and say it man... you hate Microsoft. It's ok to come out and say it. Just don't try to make stuff up to try to make yourself feel better. - brianmuse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the most flames I have ever seen in one place....haha
"NO DIGG... NO DIGG...LAME!!...NO DIGG...NO DIGG..."
apparently some people are getting a little too offended... - Mark_H, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Maybe 20 gigs isnt enough for a PC but for a console it should be plenty for quite a while"
What if Microsoft put a 300GB drive into every 360 (which they could do for under a hundred bucks a console)? Developers could use the hard drive to do whatever they want and know there's enough space, patches and expansion packs could be released for download onto the drive, or whatever else.
Two game expansions could take up all of the space on a 20 GB hard drive, though.
I think that a big HDD could be an important thing in a console if the console makers made it one. Having core consoles without an HDD, as well as maxing at 20GB, seems like an undeniable mistake to me. - mc_hambone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This article IS NOT ABOUT 10 reasons you shouldn't get an Xbox 360 - it lists 10 things that the author dislikes about it. He never states that these reasons are enough to dissuade someone from buying it (he himself gave it an 8.4/10 rating)! I'm really beginning to hate how some Digg submitters give an article a title that misleads people to think that an article is about something that it's not. RTFA!
- brianmuse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In response...I like the colors too, but cmon...some of your points are a little ridiculous. 20 gigs in not nearly enough today. Also, you got two and didn't preorder? congratulations, but that doesn't change the fact that for most people, THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND and it doesn't change the fact that this was a microsoft publicity stunt. lame if you ask me.

[QUOTE]
Despite the strong debut of its Xbox 360 in the US, Microsoft Corp is likely to struggle to displace well-entrenched incumbents in the Japanese video-game console market when it launches the Xbox 360 here at the weekend, analysts said.
'Unless we achieve meaningful success here, we cannot say we are a winner in the next-generation console battle,' Maruyama, head of the Xbox division at the Japanese unit of Microsoft, told a news conference.
But analysts are doubtful about Microsoft's chances.
'No one -- consumers or software makers -- has been talking about the Xbox 360 lately, although we only have a couple of days before the release,' Tokai Tokyo Research Center analyst Nobuyuki Kawamata said.
'Given also the fact that basic functions of Xbox 360 are inferior to Sony's next-generation machine, and that there are not many newly-developed titles ready for the Japanese launch, Xbox 360 is not likely to become a must-buy console here in Japan,' Kawamata said.
Hirotoshi Murakami, an analyst at Mitsubishi UFJ Securities, also believes the Xbox 360's prospects here are gloomy.
'We had previously thought that Xbox 360 could gain a major share of the Japanese market by taking some market share from front-runner Sony Computer,' Murakami said. 'But we now think that such a prospect may not be realized, given the limited attractiveness of its titles and its lukewarm functions.'
'Given declining enthusiasm for the Xbox 360 by Japanese players and software makers, it would be almost impossible for Microsoft to overtake Sony or even Nintendo,' said Shinko Securities analyst Yuichi Kobayashi.

So eat it Microsoft fan boys. - pbwill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This article is worthless. I wont be diggin it. Why is everyone forgetting that the 360 is a gaming machine. I am tired of journalist and pessimist trying to put a game console in the same catergory as a PC. It's not a pc. Sony seems to be confused by that as well. With there it takes out your trash to, PS3. Thast's why it's going to cost you an arm an a leg to buy one. People a complaining about a 400 dollar 3 core machine that wont be seen in every day PC's for quite some time. No launch of any console has been great. They all limp around for the first year or so. How did we forget the terrible PS2 launch. I sure loved that fireworks simulator.
Im happy with my 360. The ease of use through the interface is somewhat worth the machine alone especially if you have a Xbox Live account. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2#14. Most of the time you hear anything about the 360, its about the graphics, not the games, and good graphics should never be the primary reason for buying a console. This happened once before, just about the time of the PS1 generation of consoles. Anyone remember the 3D0? Interesting how 360 looks almost like 3D0.
- skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those 10 reasons could be used for the launch of any game console. No digg.
- AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2People dugg this?
- lotus22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2and I still want one....
- unclejesse0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Get the Revolution!
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People talk about Microsoft building BLOATWARE with Windows, and then they come and create a trim game console with options (to keep the initial price down) instead of forcing these features upon you... and what do they get? More grief. It's more of the anti-MS wagon - and everyone is hopping on board.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Heck, it's already missing a very important one... no Hard Drive."
Haha!
Important??? Neither Sony nor Nintendo are stupid enough to include a huge and fixed cost component in their consoles.
The Core/Premium 360 split exists because Microsoft was stupid enough to both include a harddrive and convince a large number of xbox fanboys that is was sort of advanced and essential feature of the xbox.
And now the idiots up in Redmond are paying the price for their dimwitted hardware design. If they didn't include the expensive harddrive in the Dreamcast 360 all the little xbox fanboys you see sitting outside in the cold hoping to get their sad little hands on a 360 would have abandoned the console. And lets not even go in to what a mess the first xbox's harddrive has made backwards compatibility.
The harddrive version of the 360 is going away the second Microsoft feels they have locked in the few million diehard xbox fans. Making it a requirement for all games to run without the harddrive should be all one needs to know about the future of the expensive harddrive version of the 360... - joebus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lol. This is a horrible article, as for myself im not a Xbox360 fan, and im always looking at articles that will make it look horrible, but this is just a sad attempt that even i find pathetic. Usually really pathetic things give me a laugh but he is just being picky. The wrong color for the console? Come on give me a break
++Lame no digg - FitFinlay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"#9. No built-in card reader"
Who Cares! - jcatignas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Eh. 10 lame reasons.
- aussiehuw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sounds like this guy from Cnet wants a PC, not a console. No digg.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No digg.
It reads like a propaganda piece funded by Sony. - Jorriss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is this guy bitter or what? Waaaaa! I pre-ordered my 360 in July and I haven't got it! Waaaaa! I write for C-Net I should have one! Waaaa! Baby.
- Seiryu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Point, Counterpoint, Counter-counterpoint... or something like that.
#1: I admit that the color should not be a big issue, and far from the top 10 problems. It would be nice to have a choice beyond the faceplates, but when you think about it Gamecube is only in 5 colors, of which only 3 are available to consumers, and PS2 only has 2 colors, of which only one is available in the US.
#2: While the launch titles are not bad, but there were no real "Killer Apps". Perfect Dark Zero was the biggest headliner they had, but they would have been much better off to have something from a big name franchise such as Halo 3, Dead or Alive 4, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, or even Final Fantasy XI. There were more people buying the system to have the system than there were people buying the system to play one specific game on the launch lineup.
#3: You pay for quality, I get that, but the quality of things like the wireless controllers has not improved enough from the current wireless controllers (I use Logitech wireless on my PS2 and Xbox) to justify a higher price. $19.95 for a solid piece of snap on plastic is rather pricey and $99.95 for a mere 20 GB hard drive is obscene, but since no third party hard drive can be used, you have to have the official Microsoft one, they know they can get away with it and are taking advantage of the consumers with price gouging.
#4: While 20 GB may be "enough", when has enough ever really been enough in the consumer market? You can get hard drives for PCs as large as 500 GB on a single drive, and smaller drives are dirt cheap now a days, averaging less than $1 per GB at most sizes. 20 GB is satisfactory for most users, but they could and should have done better on this point.
#5: Keyboard and mouse support for in-game is not a big concern to me, nor should it be to anyone else seeing as it is a console. People that want to play games with a keyboard and mouse can just get PC versions, which generally have better graphics most of the time anyway. Granted, some games are console only, but that is a sacrifice people will have to make. The author of the article saying "(World of Warcraft 360, anyone?)" is somewhat wishful thinking on their part and does show some ignorance/being uninformed, as Blizzard has officially stated that they have no plans to port WoW to any console, ever, and with Final Fantasy XI confirmed for the 360, it is highly unlikely they would have two competing MMORPGs on the 360.
#6: Leaving out WiFi on the console, and charging a high amount for the adapter is a dirty trick on the part of Microsoft, but I personally have no problem with it since, due to issues with latency and other various problems brought on by WiFi, wireless internet is bad for gaming and can make for some nasty lag at times.
#7: There could be more USB ports on the console, and there was really no reason for Microsoft not to implement more of them. With the quantity of USB devices that exist today, and the 360s compatibility with them, 3 may not be enough for some users, and while a hub is an option it shouldn't be necessary. The comment "Its a game console not a pc" is misplaces considering the 360 is being marketed as a "Media Center Solution", meaning that it should be able to function as a gaming console, as well as a low end media center PC.
#8: "it’s just a cable", with that comment I am going to venture a guess that you don't have a TV that can support HDMI or DVI. For anyone with an HDTV that does support either, it is a big issue. With all the hype and emphasis on High-Definition next-gen gaming component video out is not good enough on a HDTV that can do better. While it is possible that there could be a cable made later on, there is also the chance that Microsoft didn't consider that, and therefore the port on the system would not be capable of giving either HDMI or DVI signal out.
#9: I don't know if it was ever rumored or reported that there would be a card reader on the 360, but it would have been wise to include one. To expect one with no word about it first is somewhat absurd, but if the PS3 truly does have a card reader, then this is a place that Microsoft is going to lose out to the competition. Again you have said "it’s a game console with some extras, it’s not an all in one super media center.", but that is the point, it's not just a game console anymore, this is the next generation of gaming, and it is all about multi-function. The more they can fit into the box, the better.
#10: I am surprised a store was willing to sell more than one 360 to a walk in customer, you must have been lucky. The questions raised by that statement would have to be, are they Core bundles or Premium, and how long did you wait in line the morning of 11/22? It was possible to get them without a pre-order on launch day, but ever since then it has been nearly impossible, I would be willing to put forth a challenge to anyone to find a store that has them in stock and would sell you one right this minute.
In short, this articles reasons not to buy one are rather thin, but they can't be fully dismissed as nonsense either. The author had some good points, all be it they may not have been conveyed in the best way possible. I know I have no plans to buy a 360 in the near future, I am going to wait for the PS3 launch and possible the revolution as well, depending on its status at that time. - GunZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a funny article cuz its all true and it makes so many Xbox owners mad.
If you just glance at the author, he almost looks like Ray Romano...omg. - wylddog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i dugg it before i thought about it.
wish i had an undigg button - theLimit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That list is fanboy crap. My short list: it's expensive, it has only three decent games, I can't find one. Waiting until next xmas will solve all of those problems.
- Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its simple - the 360 is not (yet) worth its cost in terms of how much entertainment you get out of it for the money you pay.
Once you get more entertainment value out of it than the cost you pay for it, it becomes 'worth' it. - CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I bought the wired controller...hooked it up to my pc and bam I got my xbox 360, and it does not overheat. I was playing Quake 4 last night, and it looks far better on my pc than it does on the 360."
Why don't you fully ditch the inferior hardware and trade that controller for a keyboard and mouse? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, what a surprise! The main theme of why you shouldn't get an XBOX 360 is the price of all the accessories?!? Come on! This is standard procedure for console releases! XBOX 360 was certainly not the first and won't be the last in this gambit. One way or another, you're going to pay for those accessories, whether they come in the box or you have to pay separately for them. Whine, whine, whine.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2A simple English translation of this "article":
I dont like Microsoft, and I've got to trash whatever they do no matter how stupid it sounds. I just cant let Microsoft win!!!
How much you want to bet this guy will find any "flaws" with the PS3? - philmunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sometimes I wonder how worth it is adding my 2 cents to the $5 that are already posted but here is my point.
Obviously very few of you have heard the phrase "killer app". It refers to an application so good a large percentage of the populous will by the platform souly for said app. Whether you would buy a console for any given app is irrelevant. That said, it doesn't really suffice as an excuse to tell people not to buy a console, essentially telling them that they won't like what games they can get.
In essence Microsoft want to build a high-end gaming PC for the price of a console which is going to be difficult at the best of times, most problems with the console are related to this point. - longman2g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think a huge reason why no one can get one of the 360's is because everyone who bought one just wanted to resell it on ebay. how many tens of thousands of them have been sold on there? rediculous
- dkleehammer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Price shouldn't be a problem. Compare the price for the original xbox, add the price for a 20 GB hard drive, add the price for wireless controller and a new headset. You would've already spent over that $100 markup over the 360 console (not premium).
This guy is just upset that he doesn't have one at home. So far, many reviewers are saying the same crap, this is the fourth time I've read the same top 10 and only 2 are decent enough points. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does it have USB? I'm assuming it does, since it's a pc/media player/stereo/gaming/can opener/everything. So it should support any USB card reader out of the box. Does it? My guess is no.

What is Digg?
