- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -15/+102What was the point of adding the "over a PS3" to this article? Why not make a list that has "10 reasons to buy a Wii" on it instead of comparing it to a system which only similarity is that it also plays games. When will you learn that the people who want to buy a Wii will buy a Wii, the people who want to buy a PS3 will buy a PS3, and the people who want to buy both will buy both? They may not buy one or the other on launch day, but they will buy the system(s) that has the games they want on it, regardless of what ill-informed lists they read.
The Wii was designed for one niche group, the PS3 was designed for another. Beyond them both having the capabilities to play games, they are very different and have different intended demographics. You won't be able to convince a person who saves money for a Ferrari to instead buy a cheaper but dependable Honda with cool electronic trinkets, and vice versa. They both may be cars (and therefore have the ability to drive), but they are designed for different consumers. Some people may want both, but no one is going to change their mind by reading a list that says "10 reasons to buy this instead of this" when the products are completely different. I'm sure someone can come up with a list of 10 reasons to buy a PS3 over a Wii and would be just as pointless. - chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31I can't believe they used the "Same games with better graphics" argument and it wasn't against Nintendo. This phrase epitomizes the Nintendo brand!
The same games appear on each Nintendo System with better graphics. In fact, usually the best games for each Nintendo system are the same games: a Mario platformer, Metroid, Zelda, Mario Cart, Star Fox, and the combination of all of them: Super Smash Brothers. Each generation has the same games with the same gameplay (sometimes with minor variants) and better graphics than the last. Although, the gameplay on the newest iterations of these series might change on the Wii because of the Wii-mote, but Nintendo made it's fortune using the "same games with better graphics". No other system milks it's franchises as much as Nintendo does.
Now don't get me wrong, I love my Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc games. The only reason I bought any of Nintendo's previous consoles was to play these games. Therefore, it could be said the only reason I bought a Nintendo console was because it had the "same games but with better graphics". And it's the same reason I will buy both a Wii (for the aforementioned games) and a PS3 (for Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, etc.). - chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28@latova
If that's true, a better article would be "10 reasons to buy a [insert console here] this holiday season, instead of waiting a few months/years when the prices drop and they have better games".
Instead, they write an article which preaches to the Wii choir. I doubt any non-Wii fan is going to read this article and have it persuade them to buy one over the other. As I said, the people will buy the system they want.
If they want to convince anyone of buying one or the other, they should convince the parents. If it were up to the parents, all the kids would get Wii just because few parents would pay $600 for a "toy". I had trouble convincing my parents to buy me a NES when it was $100. - ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31There was really no need for the "over a PS3" in this title.
- bashar129, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20 some errors:
"Dragon Ball Z: BT2 (Next-Gen exclusive)" umm, no it isn't. It's coming out for PS2 tomorrow.
and I don't understand #7 "Same games with Prettier Graphics on PS3:...it’s simply more of the same with prettier graphics for the holiday season."
How is the fact that the PS3 has the same games (Madden, three NBA games, Tiger Woods, Genji etc.)with prettier graphics a reason to buy the Wii? - negativenancy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18"Top 10 Reasons to get a Orange over an Apple this Holiday Season."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16If you truly felt the Wii was superior and was definitel;y going to crush the PS3, you wouldn't feel the need to write silly artciles like this, or to submit them, or digg them etc.
Same old *****. Come up with whatever your product has the advantage, and claim that they are hte most importnat. Then IGNORE the areas where the competition is clearly better.
Also gotta love that one of hte reasons is exclusive games. Yeah, so if you LIKE those games, great. Just hope you don't like the games that go with the PS3 and not the Wii.
In other words...who gives a *****! Like whatever ***** console you like and stop telling others what to buy! You sound like ***** idiots! And you sound like you have no faith in the system since you need to actively campaign for it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16this is ***** retarded :
How in the hell did this make the first page on digg?
get this biased ***** out of here - se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16THis article goes to show just how blurred the fanboys that own these wii sites are...
"Wii will have 62 games ready for 2006: While 30 of them may be downloadable classics, the PS3 will only have 23 games in total for the holiday season.""
Okay, if your doing that, the wii has 60 games, and the ps3 has, what, like 12,000 games?
ps1 emu, anyone? - jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'm sure there are 10 reasons to buy a ps3, or 360, or psp, or ds, or ps2.... or even all of them
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"7. Same games with Prettier Graphics on PS3: There is another Madden, three NBA games, Tiger Woods, Genji etc. While some of the games will utilize Sixaxis technology, it’s simply more of the same with prettier graphics for the holiday season."
I fail to see how that helps the Wii... (^_~) - tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Why are you hating on people who buy the PS3? Don't be mad because they like Sony and can afford it. Its not like its that overpriced anyways. Look at hardcore PC gamers who spend 400 hundred dollars on a graphics card alone and not to mention the ones that buy two for SLI.
- Kindrik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah. It's actually kind of annoying. And this is coming from a Wii fan.
If a PS3 article does come up, its usually something negative.
What do people get out of in being fanboys? It doesn't help any one and you just wind up being hated by others. - chimaera2005, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12This wasn't written by a fanboy at all... Very objective! Kudos.
- Zoxy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Skywake
Sure the Blu ray is used for movies, but it will also be used as a storage media so that developers will be able to create larger more expansive games. A lot of people are only thinking of the blu ray from the movie aspect and don't consider it being used for games (unlike the 360 and its HD add-on) - matts0344, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Has anyone else noticed a ton of Nintendo/Wii dick sucking on Digg for the past year? If you like Wii and hate PS3 and Sony fine, but geez guys.
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13without reading the article I can tell you the number 1 reason:
because you'll actually be ABLE to get a Wii this holiday season. - chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Thinking more on the subject, Nintendo has already done this once and if it wasn't for the "same games with better graphics" I wouldn't have bought their last "innovative game console": the DS. The DS has wonderful and innovative capabilities like a touchscreen, dual screens, and a built in mic. But only one game I own (Brain Age) uses these features for a new game experience. Every other game I own is actually a sequel but with better graphics: New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart, Castlevania DoS, Advance Wars DS, Mario & Luigi, Animal Crossing, and soon Castlevania PoR and FFIII.
Some may use the stylus and mic occasionally, but mostly I play them all just like I did the previous versions, only this time with a second screen that shows menus/maps/supplemental info.
Hopefully the Wii won't be too different. There will be some games that really use the Wii-mote in original ways, but most of the traditional staples of Nintendo (see above) will play the same as the original games, but with added mini-games (fishing!) that utilize the new options. - Kindrik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Ok.... other than #2 that added nothing to this.
- kafitz22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There's no way in hell Nintendo's going to have nearly close to the same amount of titles from all those systems at launch that what the PS3 has to offer from it's previous systems even if not all games are playable.
Also, I never said that the Wii didn't have backwards compatibility with the Gamecube, just that I think the PS3's launch library will be larger.
I'm no Sony fanboy, I am just sick of the borderline to complete misinformation that's been going around. - redmaxx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@se1zure
Why is it that everyone forgets that the Wii will also have backwards compatibility with GameCube games? You complain that it is unfair not to include the PS3's backward compatibility, but then you forget the Wii's backwards compatibility. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Ok, let;s add Gamecube - PS2 still wins about 1500 to 200.
- jwasko, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9All good points, walkingdogs, but in further reply to ZenMojo:
"3. Wii will have 62 games ready for 2006: While 30 of them may be downloadable classics, the PS3 will only have 23 games in total for the holiday season. - Um...if you can count 30 "downloadable classics" the PS3 can count several thousand "downloadable and purchasable from your local used gaming store classics." Backwards compatible, you douche. -1
And
"5. If you love old-school: The Wii will have 30 classics from Zelda, F-Zero, Mario 64, Sonic, Gunstar Heroes, Bomberman, Bonk’s Adventure and more. PS3 is expected to have two downloadable titles. - and backwards compatibility for a couple thousand games. -1"
The Wii is backwards compatible as well. You can debate about the quality of GCN games but...that's about 50 games that I already own that I can play on the Wii, as well as many more that I would purchase from my "local used gaming store" if I had the money. Baten Kaitos Origins comes to mind.
"10. Revolutionary Control Scheme. - PS3's got that. +0"
I'd almost forgotten how hilarious it is to hear the SIXAXIS be called "revolutionary."
Thanks for the laughs, ZenMojo...but seriously, I almost died from lack of oxygen, so don't do it anymore. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow. Lame. It's funny how the top five are essentially the same thing. Also they could have left out the part about the PS3.
Seriously, this kid took every Wii post on Digg - true or not - and conglomerated them into one big jumbo mess of fanboy crap.
Also for some reason he states that the PS3 library is "The same old thing with prettier graphics" only basing this off of the release titles. - HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i'll give you 11 reasons:
$250>$5-600 - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Right, so now I'm supposed to start listening to the opinion of some guy that doesn't know any thing more than I do ? No, thanks.
Burried -- this is crappy spam for some's opinions as a blog post. - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41. More Third-Party Exclusives
Oh yah, you bet! The controller insures that lots of games for Wii, wont be on other consoles.
2. The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess on launch day
Another great reason... and I'm sure its the only reason some people need... This game should sell 1 to 1 per Wii, at launch.
3. Wii will have 62 games ready for 2006
I don't know the numbers, but I know it will have the best selection of launch titles coming out this winter, and that should continue after, based on how well DS is doing.
4. Wii has a variety of games available for 2006 for practically everyone
Variety is another strong point... Nintendo releases plenty of games for the hardcore, and a LOT of games for new and non-gamers.
5. If you love old-school
VC will be a great plus for a lot of people, all those old consoles, even ones that are not Nintendo's... Plus there will be some new games made just for VC.
6. Price and Supply
Yup, Nintendo's done a great job with this, and the fact that they have the cheapest console, puts it Automatically as Number 1 under a LOT of xmas trees.
7. Same games with Prettier Graphics on PS3
thats a horrible reason... XD
8. The Perfect Video Game Gift
yup, as i said before, cheap means lots of gift sales.
9. Small, Quiet, more Portable, Power Efficient and Fast Loading Times
Yup fast loading times is a HUGE plus, for people like me anyway. I hate the increasing loading times on other consoles, and handhelds... its rediculious... they care so much about power, they probably will never do anything to lower load times... and thats sad...
Meanwhile Wii is fast, faster than gamecube, and thats awesome. As for those other parts, yes its power efficient, yes its small and quiet... and it doesn't overheat! Its also got an Amazing disc drive, smooth loading, the disc comes out far enough to grab easilly by the hole (unlike PS3), and it loads minidiscs, which is a first for slotloading drives.
10. Revolutionary Control Scheme
Thats a given, that new controller WILL change the controlls on ALL of the future consoles. It brings us closer to the game, pushing a button is fine, but when u make a motion, (even one thats not 1:1) that motion makes your brain more INTO the game.
I'm sure we'll see pointing and motion, in 5 years, on all the consoles. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm buying a PS3 for the sole reason of MGS4 and Gran Turismo HD, I guess it's okay to be a Nintendo fan but if you like other games it's lame.
I have yet to see a reason for me to buy a Wii, and I only bought a GameCube for Metal Gear Solid the Twin Snakes.
It's different for everyone, I can think of 10 reasons to get a PS3 over a Wii, but what difference does it make? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Here are my views on those ten reasons:
1. Tony Hawk's Project 8 > Downhill jam lol
2. Only those who like Zelda, what about those who don't care?
3. Very irrelevant, that really means maybe 2 more games in reality
4. I thought Hardcore was better? Another irrevlant statement
5. That won't stop me from getting my old console out, I can enjoy all new games
6. For a heavily strippe down console, of course it's less expensive
7. What is wrong with better graphics? That's like saying getting laid with an ugly huer versus a hot chick.
8. The perfect gift is a different thing for everyone, I know my parents don't play games.
9. Quiet operation? I usually play with my surround sound system so that doesn't matter anyway.
10. An entire year from now, knowing kids with ADD get bored quick, are you sure the whole motion sensing will still have its charm? - Suits, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4***** the story, the Vs crap, who's better and why. Is the Wii going to have Metal Gear, the next Final Fantasy game? No. Is the PS3 going to have ReadSteel, Mario, Zelda and so on, likewise with Xbox360? Am I going to see Halo3 on the Wii? No. The answer is simple. You're eventually going to own barrow and or rent them all. Everyone wins. Only the fanboi's/fanboy's/fantards/fangirls lose. game over.
- SpaceDreamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3great. a fanboy article. just what I wanted NOT to read.
- 98acura, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Enough about the wii!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yeah...try inviting a waomn back to your place to play Nintendo. See how many accept the offer.
- jwasko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Everyone, I'm sorry for this, but I can't resist:
"Hey, baby, wanna come back to my place and play with my Wii?"
*slap*
As a side note...how DOES Wii = male genitalia? Wii = wee I can understand, but... - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Not sure why you're getting dugg down for this. This is basically the reason I'm not considering a PS3 right now as well, and I'm sure many others are in the same boat.
- Eleo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm not sold on either console. The Wii has potentially interesting gameplay but it has just-barely-not-lastgen graphics. The PS3 is of course expensive and I have my doubts that it will be popular in the long run. Having been burned by the Saturn, Dreamcast, and Gamecube, I am very wary over which console I will purchase next. (The Gamecube didn't completely fail, but it's still very much so second-rate to PS2 and X-Box.) Right now I want to go buy a 360, but what if the PS3 or Wii obliterate it? I mean the Dreamcast had a head start on the PS2 but ultimately failed. So who knows...
I will wait another 6 months to a year before I buy anything. - tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree with you. If I had the money I would buy both systems but I currently don't. But in a few months I will get a Wii and I will get a PS3 in about 2 years when Sony brings the price down a little.
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"
I'd almost forgotten how hilarious it is to hear the SIXAXIS be called "revolutionary."
Thanks for the laughs, ZenMojo...but seriously, I almost died from lack of oxygen, so don't do it anymore."
if you are going to reply to the mans arguments, please make valid arguments yourself.
You claim teh sixaxis is not revolutionary, but have you used it? Revolutionary compared to WHAT? the wiimote? perhaps not *as* revolutionary, but the ps3 certainly makes up for that in other areas. The sixaxis is, infact, revolutionary in that it differs from it's previous generation, it may not be complete motion sensing, but no everyone wants or needs that. Just like not everyone wants or needs bluray, . I for one, want bluray, and full motion sensing. Si I
So I guess I will ge t both of these consoles. I already own a 360, which is basically my excuse to play halo 3 , and gears of war, war. - chimaera2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2First of all, it would be Metal Gear Solid XIX not XVIIII, and secondly it's an UNDERpriced BLU-RAY player.
- scallon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Is it just me, or does the article feel like it was written by a thirteen year old?
- martinj88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"roll over characters and position them in a real-time strategy game,"
Thats a genre which would fit the Wii perfectly, yet I haven't heard of ANY RTS for the Wii - Blue_Eon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Um, when they say the same games just with better graphics, they are talking about how you'll be playing the same old FPS, Sports, and thug life and rap music games that have proliferated the market over the past five years. There's nothing innovative or fresh about them...just a graphical upgrade.
And it's true...the PS3 offers nothing new above the PS2 other than "shinier" graphics. The SIX AXIS? Well, that was done on PCs years ago.
I will never understand why people keep complaining about the graphics of the Wii. WHY ARE YOU SO OBSESSED WITH GRAPHICS, AMERICA? Does it really matter? As someone who grew up with the Atari, I look at graphics nowadays and think,"These are fine." The next gen graphics look like crap. They're either way too plastic looking or way to "glowy"...you know with that heavenly glow everywhere?
You give me this gen's graphics with a whole new approach to gaming or you give me the same type of games that we've had for the past five years just with "shinier" graphics, and I'll take the former every time.
When you base your entire console buying on whether or not a game looks better...well, that's just shallow. What's wrong with what we have now? And please define "bad" graphics. Oh wait...I guess bad graphics means no HD or graphics that are stylized with bright colors or not uber realistic and dark.
We must live in such a shallow society if people will downplay a console because there's less power and where people would rather have the same dull games over and over again just with slight improvements.
I'm not trying to impune on anyone, but it seems most of America plays games for entirely different reasons than what they should. You don't play games because they look nice...you play games to escape from the world and to have fun. The Wii looks fun so I don't understand the Wii hatred. I'm sure the PS3 will have some fun games, but I just don't understand why people even debate consoles.
Buy what you want and be done with it...don't worry about what everyone else buys. This is the internet anyway...do you really think you're going to change someone's mind? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My question is, the ps2 wouldnt play vcd's and alot of dvds that i burned, that my dvd player would, will i have the same trouble with blueray?
- ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, you can actually buy it in stores (before Xmas).
- asdfff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For the price of a Wii, 1 extra controller (to properly enjoy the pack-in), plus ONLY Zelda, you can get a PS2 and the THIRTEEN BEST GAMES EVER MADE FOR THE PS2.
- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6If the guy who wrote the article knew how much you guys would nitpick at the title, I'm sure he would have put some more time into thinking up a better one.
- twesterm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think what a lot of people are missing on the whole PS3 and Wii debate are numbers. The PS3 is going to have, what, 500-800k units at launch and *plans* to have several million by launch (which I'm sure is another target)? Do any of you know how many units sold it takes to make a last-gen console game successful?
800,000 - 1,000,000
The people paying attention should notice something. If the PS3 only has 800k units out, the only way a game can be considered successful is if everyone buys a copy of any given game, otherwise, the game is a failure. Sure, there will be more systems later, but we all know we have short attention spans are.
Even with something as Resistance: Fall of Man, it's still going to fail. By the time March rolls around, it will already have had a price drop and no longer be making money.
So why is this troubling? Because if a developer knows that everyone has to buy the game in order to make money (be successful), then you are more likely going to fail. That's the real reason not to buy a PS3 is because it's going to lose a lot of 3rd party support and mainly 3rd party exclusive support. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5If you're poor and have to beg your parents to buy a video game system, get a Wii. If you have a job and extra cash, get a PS3.
- Microtosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Picking a console based on specs is pretty stupid (well the PS3 and xbox360 also function as next-gen media players). The Wii might not be compatible with your 17 foot polymorphic WHUXGA TV with built in cup holders, but hell, it plays Zelda, Mario, Red Steel, and etc. .
What I'm saying is, if Zelda's your cup of tea(gin) then get a Wii, If you think Halo is the *****(everyone does, even the perfunctory Microsoft haters) get an xbox360, and if you love(d) Gods of War(not much of a Sony guy, but this game kicked ass) then get your BLeU-Ray playing space-heater of doom(aka the mutha F(_)kin PS3)
As for me, I couldn't fathom feeling safe without a brand new krisp copy of Zelda(and Mario) in my hands. Put aside your racist console thoughts for a moment, if these two splendiphorous games were under Microsoft or Sony I would go for there console.
I care MUCH more about the games then if the console can be added to my collection of not so used built in DVD(BLeU-Ray,HD-DVD) functionality but require dongle attachment player, or if it can cook my breakfast with afternoon massage(of what I hear the xbox360 can cook up a nasty batch of eggs). If your getting the PS3/xbox360 not because of the games, but just to make your self feel better than everyone else because you have a small penis thing, then whatever.
But keep in mind, with my purchase of the Wii, not only do I get to play Zelda(and Mario), I also have a reasonable explanation for whacking a friend, or family member(take your pick) in the face (not because I have a Wii, but because some/most of the games require gesticulation of arms and/or body).
Hitting people is wrong, but so funny
Note: I am the original poster of this on both sites, just re-posted here for reference - Kindrik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I was never a big Metal Gear fan and lost intrest in Final Fantasy after my original PS. The reason I'm getting a Wii is The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy. And Red Steel looks pretty good so far.
