- kylesellers, on 08/09/2008, -6/+59And yet the industry has not been shattered? Why must Gamesradar try to be so sensational?
- Adiddy, on 08/09/2008, -8/+58So, In summary: Microsoft steals a lot, and Nintendo gets robbed a lot.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -3/+41Halo WAS the Xbox. It almost single-handedly sold the console.
I think it should be in the top 3. - dylio, on 08/09/2008, -2/+31Battletoads for the Wii and 360 is already out, Gamestop just refuses to sell it to me.
- insanekoz, on 08/09/2008, -2/+19Did you even read the article?
- toughluck2, on 08/09/2008, -3/+16The article says nothing about the industry shattering, it just says, "Here's a big upset (FFXIII on 360), and here are some historical upsets that may be of interest to you. To answer your last question, probably because Digg users like sensationalism.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -2/+14Halo was originally planned for a simultaneous pc and mac release, it was never mac exclusive.
this link is from 1999 after the announcement of it at macworld.

- wontstoptalking, on 08/09/2008, -1/+10And actually, in the case of Halo, it was Industry Shattering. Halo was the Mac's big chance at gaming. Think about it. It became the biggest videogame of all time (yeah, I ignore GTA 4, since it was available on both consoles. Halo was the most sold for the 360. Deal with it). If Halo made it to the Mac, we might all be playing Half Life on our Macs right now.
Who knows. - chaosblade77, on 08/09/2008, -0/+8Like? More like attracted to it in the same way a moth is attracted to a bug zapper.
- Vodd9, on 08/09/2008, -0/+8Yet manages to be the best selling console of this generation while at the same time making more profit per units than the Xbox or PS3.
- dty2010, on 08/09/2008, -0/+7I think you've seen The Dark Knight too many times.
- nobelief, on 08/09/2008, -0/+6I guess it's good for gamers then that they turned a video to a game
/sarcasm if you didn't get that you retard - Lorddias, on 08/09/2008, -0/+6What? Squaresoft said clearly that the reason they created FF7 for the PSX was because it used CD-ROM software, and that the N64 cartridges couldn't hold nearly as much data. If FF7 was three 700 MB disks long, imagine how many 32 MB cartridges it'd have to be.
- christof53, on 08/09/2008, -0/+6I still long for the day when Shenmue III comes out.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -1/+6After getting my PS3 (waiting on Force Unleashed), I seem to have stumbled into this war - making friends (and enemies) by declaring my platform.
Having the PS3 I've been buying all these old PS2 games that are rather fun with a controller like - God Of War, Metal Gear Solid I-III (aye I-II were also PC), Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII, etc.. Its been fun to play good quality/well written games at cheap used prices.
Still, the 360 owners seem to get all affronted when I say I own a PS3. Nothing personal, I just like Vanilla and you digg Chocolate. - LordoftheLoo, on 08/09/2008, -0/+4The Rare deal would of been much bigger if their best members didnt leave to go on and form Free Radical Design (the guys that do the time splitters series)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Radical_Design - wontstoptalking, on 08/09/2008, -4/+8SOMEBODY HELP ME I HAVE THE SONGS FROM DR. HORRIBLE STUCK IN MY HEAD HELP!
- Ymeg, on 08/09/2008, -0/+4So, it's called business?
I'm sorry, but everything does not need to be regulated. - NinjaBull, on 08/09/2008, -2/+6Article title: 10 industry-shattering stolen exclusives
- dylio, on 08/10/2008, -0/+49 was vastly underrated/unappreciated.
- nakile, on 08/09/2008, -0/+4But what if they did the cut scenes in real time and not using FMV?
- zplus, on 08/09/2008, -0/+4you're not alone
- MechaFalcon, on 08/09/2008, -1/+5I don't think Rare really qualifies to be on this list. Sure, it was a big deal when the sale first happened (sale, not theft), but once everyone saw what Rare put out for MS, nobody really gave a ***** anymore. Grabbed by the Ghoulies? Come on.
- zplus, on 08/09/2008, -1/+5some crappy choices, but it was still an enjoyable read. dugg
- colincornaby, on 08/09/2008, -2/+6Sure, but it was being written entirely on the Mac, and sure would have made the Mac a lot more relevant in the gaming market. Steve Jobs put a lot of push into Halo.
Instead, Microsoft bought out Halo, the Mac version shipped many years later (the last version to ship), and Steve Jobs gave up on games again.
All and all a disaster for Mac gaming. - MacHarborGuy, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3actually, the reasons for Half Life not being on the Mac were due to networking issues between the PC and Mac versions, and Valve decided not to release a half-assed version of the game. The networking issues were due to Valve being so hooked on using Microsoft technologies rather than in-house tech or open sourced tech, hence why a company like ID Software was able to put their games on Windows, Mac and Linux and Valve just doesn't. Same goes for Blizzard. It will be a cold day in hell before Blizzard releases a game for Windows and not for the Mac as well (and on the same disc).
- toughluck2, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3@NinjaBull: Yes, but if you read it, you'll see that while it may be a somewhat sensational headline, the hyperbole is referring to the shock, excitement, and outrage caused by the phenomenon of "exclusives," not the industry actually falling apart. If I said that my mind was blown by something I saw, I wouldn't literally mean that a gust of wind blew my brain cells into oblivion. And headlines are written like this, as I said, because people like it. "10 stolen exclusives" wouldn't be very effective. Tis all I'm saying. There is a culture of sensationalism on the Internet, news, etc. People like it. But the text of this article, I don't think, is "sensationalized." It just has a snappy headline, which is fairly normal.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3I wouldn't say we'd all be playing on Macs. I would say though that there would probably be another percent or two of market share for Apple and a lot more possibilities for them.
- Typhoon2009, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3Jeeze... 1999.
- nobody98, on 08/09/2008, -1/+4Most people like a bit of sensationalism. Digg me down if you wish but you know it's true.
- LethalGeek, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3The article's author pretty much agreed with you. It seemed like a big deal, until Rare started making games that just didn't match their titles on the N64. At the time though (I was a Nintendo FanBoy(TM)) people were very very unhappy.
- Anthop, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3So.... keeping track of score (not counting the "console/handheld number or where Sega screws itself):
Apple: 1 stolen from, 0 stolen.
Sega: 1 stolen from, 2 stolen.
Sony: 2 stolen from, 2 stolen.
Nintendo: 5 stolen from, 0 stolen.
Microsoft: 0 stolen from, 5 stolen.
Conclusion: Microsoft is pirate and poor Nintendo loses its lunch money every other week. - IAmTheGuy, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3While Ace Combat may be exceptional, I don't think it's enough to sell consoles the way everything else on the list did.
- Schmapdi, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3I don't think they get robbed alot, it was just - for the 12-15 year period of Nes -> N64, they were the only person really to "rob" from.
- MacHarborGuy, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3Nakile: if Square did that the game would definitely have been more consistent. PSX version has a mix of full sized characters and mini characters (both in game and in the pre-rendered cutscenes).
- crazycarlmar, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3It is pretty retarded of you to say that Halo was better than any other PC game. Halo was just another generic shooter, only popular because it revolutionized the FPS genre on consoles. If it was released on computers (especially on Mac's) no one would've gave a *****.
- 3uster, on 08/10/2008, -2/+4god i hope that never happens, worst of the series. If anything they should remake 8 or 9.
- ragingflamerboy, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Wow, you're so powerful.
- exomni, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Another name for this article: Microsoft gets a lot of games.
- Kanten, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2Yes and what did Microsoft do for Shenmue? They pretty much killed it. Thanks Bill.
- iruber1337, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Do you recall the cut scenes from Mortal Kombat - Subzero Mythology? Yeah it was better off on PSX.
- otros, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1You have to consider that the game that finally went to the xbox was vastly different that the one for the mac. It's just as likely that the mac one would not change "videogame history" as Halo did on the xbox.
- Sconathon, on 08/10/2008, -1/+2This is very offensive. They labeled Nero as the PS3 fan and Dante as the 360 fan. Think about it.
- DavidGX, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Yes.
- EliColburn, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1For me the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty multi-platform (PS2 & Xbox) deal shattered my idea of Konami, owning a PS2 at the time. Now I have a 360, though, and also I couldn't care less what any company does. It really doesn't matter.
- Cebo, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Yep, I still remember the announcement, it was always supposed to come out on PC also.
Way then it looked very promising. Too bad it had to be castrated like that to fit onto consoles.
But the game I miss from Bungie is Myth. Damn, I want a sequel, and a proper one this time. - inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1only fanboys seem to acknowlodge this so called console war
me, i can afford both, so... - Schmapdi, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1It was still notable at the time, though yeah, by that time Rare had pretty much crapped out. Even their last Nintendo-based effort Starfox Adventures, was very mediocre.
- Schmapdi, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Yeah, that was when Square went from making games to making movies that had games built around them.
They could have easily made a cartridge version minus the theatrics. -
