There are plenty of player anticipating the next expansion. As long as Chapter 2 improves on Guild Wars, I think the sales will be great. I'm not sure what you mean by no players. 1,000,000 copies of Guild Wars were sold in just 5-6 months.
While I don't understand why ArenaNet would give away $100,000 in prizes, I doubt it's because of sales. I think it's more about what the ArenaNet founders invisioned for their game. Yet, even with the potential of huge sums of money, there have been plenty of cynical responses to this tournament. I'm not sure why. This is a good thing for gamers. - Slapula, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this has actually got me thinking of playing GW again. I dropped GW a few months ago to play WoW, but it got boring fast and crashed like crazy. Anyway, money sounds like a better endgame reward than simply adding more stuff.

That's why ArenaNet is busy working on expansions. I found PvP too frustrating. I didn't understand why one would want to fight against thousands of guilds. Yet, now that there's money involved. It does get very interesting.
Think of Chess. I like the game, but I wouldn't have much fun playing against grand masters. That's the trouble with Guild Wars PvP. You could very quickly be facing the best in the world. That can make for a frustrating experience. Yet, with $100,000 in prizes... there is serious motivation to get better. It's certainly something interesting to talk about. Entertainment is the bottom line. For the $80 I spend on my Guild Wars collectors edition, I certainly feel I got my money's worth out of it... and I'm still playing today! Heh... don't know if my guild is going to want to participate in the tournament though. It is a lot of money. - macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pfff what a joke. why dont they spend those 100,000 dollars and make a better freaking game. what a joke of a game too
