- iPlunder, on 11/09/2009, -2/+221Jesus, verizon just sent a huge "***** you" to AT&T's 3G map lawsuit.
- kevin52094, on 11/08/2009, -3/+157Why isn't Verizon advertising the Droid like crazy now it is out. Those teaser ads where you didn't even see the phone were nice to build up hype, but now they need commercials that actually show the phone and what it can do.
- AWBoy666, on 11/08/2009, -10/+108Hilarious. Soo accurate to my experience with my 3GS too. Switched to a Droid and it's absolute best feature is that I have yet to ever lose my signal or have connection problems.
- HunterKiller, on 11/09/2009, -3/+79Here's my personal take on AT&T versus Verizon --
I live in the Northeast; NYC/NJ area to be exact. My personal phone is Verizon, and my work phone is AT&T. Normally, I would call my wife while driving back home from work with my Verizon phone. One day I forgot my phone at home, so I used the AT&T phone to call her up. Driving on I78 West from Jersey City to 24West (My route home), my call with her dropped at least 5 times. I never had any problems with my Verizon phone on this route. Being that I work close to NYC, and being in a highly populated suburb, AT&T's service is unacceptable. - mynameisteejay, on 11/09/2009, -7/+77AT&T sucks. Not the iPhone.
- wonnk13, on 11/08/2009, -9/+77i haven't had any problems with AT&T in the northeast, but it's a great commercial nonetheless
- brohammer5, on 11/08/2009, -1/+62If they're going to do a modern Island of Misfit Toys, the Virtual Boy has to be in there somewhere.
- wilf_brim, on 11/09/2009, -0/+56AT&T is really pissed at the ads with the 3G coverage maps, but the truth hurts. In many parts of the country the iPhone is crippled due to lousy coverage. And in places where there is good coverage the network is overloaded. AT&T was riding a wave for 2 years: it was only a matter of time before Verizon finally got decent phones. Now that they do they are in a crapload of trouble.
- reiggin, on 11/09/2009, -1/+33The Misfit Toy ad clearly doesn't attack the iPhone. In fact, I'd say Verizon was very intentional in that ad to direct the criticism away from the iPhone itself and towards the AT&T network (indicating that the network is all that made it a "misfit").
- MacHarborGuy, on 11/09/2009, -6/+37spoken like a true fanboy
- masterkenobi, on 11/09/2009, -0/+27Highest populated areas? I can point you to plenty of pissed off AT&T/iPhone users in the NYC area.
- masterkenobi, on 11/09/2009, -4/+31madwh is probably basing his opinions on the articles he read about the Droid on Apple websites, and the 3GS in his pocket.
As an iPhone developer and a new owner of the Droid, I would say:
Droid > iPhone 3GS
Verizon > AT&T - jrm125, on 11/09/2009, -0/+25Live in Boston. Minimum 3 calls dropped per day on 3G.
***** you AT&T - TGZRyo, on 11/09/2009, -1/+24LOL. Its been a long time since I literally LOL'd when I said LOL.
I have AT&T and had Verizon just before I switched. I must say there have been two days in the past two months that AT&T 3G has been down all day. I call AT&T and they act like its my phone or they try to say EDGE is just as good at 3G. WTF? I ask the guy I work with who has an iPhone and it says EDGE. Gawd.
The icing on the cake is that AT&T told me not all towers around here are 3G. Although AT&Ts online map shows my house in 3G, but according to a Rep the closet tower is NOT 3G. So I think the map Verizon has is actually wrong. It should show less 3G. - Diggnabbit, on 11/09/2009, -1/+21Michigan is in the north east?
- zizzybaloobah, on 11/09/2009, -0/+20Verizon has followed through on their promises to open up their devices - my Droid has no VCast, no VZ Navigator, and the UI has no VZW branding whatsoever. I can transfer files via Bluetooth, designate any song or sound on the phone as a ring tone, even an MP3 I purchased (and downloaded) directly from Amazon. The browser worked great, YouTube as well, and Pandora streamed beautifully. I haven't tried tethering yet, but its also a feature I'm not really planning on using.
And best part is I never lost a signal all weekend, despite traveling to mid-PA and back to Baltimore. I could never do the same w/my Sprint or AT&T phones. - jeffmon, on 11/09/2009, -2/+20Hypocrite.
- SpyderTaco, on 11/09/2009, -7/+23Great commercial. It's fun watching corporations take stabs at each other. What's really rewarding is that Verizon are the good guys and for once they are not the ones getting stabbed.
- Paal, on 11/09/2009, -0/+16if they keep getting happy iPhone -> Droid switchers like me, they won't have to pay another cent in advertising
it was an adjustment getting used to the Droid at first... having an operable phone has been almost too much to take! - filovirus, on 11/09/2009, -0/+16Verizon is great. They give me a prostate exam every month....without the courtesy of a reach around.
- MacHarborGuy, on 11/09/2009, -0/+15don't forget about the TOWER OF POWER (Genesis on top of a SegaCD with the 32X sitting on top of the pile)
- dagamer34, on 11/09/2009, -2/+17Dude, they don't cripple phones anymore. Get caught up with the times!
- jv2k, on 11/09/2009, -1/+15Michigan is not considered the north east. North east is NY, Massachusetts, Jersey, etc.
Michigan is closer to midwest. The center states like Texas and colorado are considered western ones and then the far west is the west coast. - johnwayne1, on 11/09/2009, -3/+17***** AT&T and their ***** service. Verizon gets the iphone next year and there will be a mass exodus the likes of which haven't been seen since Moses.
- MacHarborGuy, on 11/09/2009, -0/+13so replace Virtual Boy with PSP-Go
- HotLeper, on 11/09/2009, -6/+17Verizon has good coverage but I can't get pass their control issues (crippling phones) and narcissism (overly aggressive branding).
- Silentgeno, on 11/09/2009, -0/+11Actually they are just trying to keep folks from signing up for 2 years to get a cheaper rate on a smartphone then turning around and canceling, paying the fee and still getting the phone cheaper than buying it outright.
- dagamer34, on 11/09/2009, -3/+14That's not Verizon doing it, it's Google. Notice how neither the T-Mobile G1 or the myTouch 3G have multi-touch support in browsers or maps, even though it's clear that source code was written to support such features. Ask Apple about why they have their hands up their asses on the issue.
- HunterKiller, on 11/09/2009, -0/+11I have a few co workers that have iPhones too (I work in the Newport/Jersey City area). They can never get calls out while in the building, and also their calls drop frequently when we go out to lunch. Being so close to Manhattan, you would think that AT&T's service would be better than that.
- masterkenobi, on 11/09/2009, -3/+13Even if they kept the termination fee the same, I would wonder how many people would actually drop the Droid for AT&T/iPhone.
Apple fanboys who have never tried the Droid before, go ahead and digg me down. - DeadFox1, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10did you watch? the ads?
- staticfire, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10@reiggin I have been stuck on my dads verizon family plan for the last 7 years and every time i got a cool new phone i discovered that whatever made it cool verizon decided to disable.
so i've never liked verizon very much.
verizon has been nickel and dimming people forever, always trying to squeeze every last penny for things many other networks were giving away for free. like blue tooth, ring tones, ect.
also some of their fees use to be outrageous compared to other networks and minutes use to be ridiculous as well. - jack2454, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10that happened to me when i called your wife too. so ya AT&T sucks.
- KibblesnBitts, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10***** YOU DAWRPHIN
- Zindrix, on 11/09/2009, -5/+14So what does the iPhone do that the Droid doesn't do equally or better? Oh, that's right, it helps you look trendy at Starbucks while it sits next to your Macbook.
- JMaj, on 11/09/2009, -3/+113GS != Droid
Droid != 3GS - picoarthur, on 11/09/2009, -1/+9***** AT&T!
- codyman, on 11/09/2009, -0/+8sometimes it's the simple things that count in a high tech device.... like having it actually do what it's supposed to do when you need it
Instead AT&T isn't upgrading their networks fast and instead just tells you to keep sending in the checks - Silentgeno, on 11/09/2009, -1/+9By attack you mean talk about how cool it is and how it shouldn't be on the island for misfit toys?
- TheLoneWolf071, on 11/09/2009, -1/+9Nice to see a company calling out AT&T like this.
- armor, on 11/09/2009, -0/+7I just saw a new one talking about the google navigation app.
- HouseofEl, on 11/09/2009, -3/+10Funny because I have 11 people that say your 10 people are full of *****. Whaddya think of them apples?
You only have one opinion my friend. Those other 10 have to speak for themselves. Otherwise it's pointless to bring them up as some sort of proof that HunterKiller is wrong about his opinion and experience. - krymson, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6so bad no one even wants to bring it up.
- reiggin, on 11/09/2009, -8/+14Yeah. Good guys who have until just recently done nothing but given the finger to their customers by crippling features like Bluetooth, installing their own crappy OS on every phone, and withholding all the best new phones from their network. Yeah, good guys indeed. A new set of good phones doesn't cover up the sins of their past.
- ohreilly, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6What is it with Apple fanboys getting all cranky when you touch a nerve? Idiot indeed.
- petro62, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6Maybe I am hearing the commercial wrong, but do they say Verizon has 5x times the 3g coverage of AT&T? If so those maps look horribly differently. AT&T's map looks like it covers all of 5% of the map while Verizon seems to cover 80-90%. Not that it matters. I know AT&T's coverage sucks, but still.
On a side note I was just in Green Bay for work and could barely get an EDGE signal. - geodebug, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6The Droid phone is "digg-certified" trendy. Because I really care what my fellow anonymous diggers think.
- smashingmonkey, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5Yes, yes, you are very provincial.
- motivatedguy, on 11/09/2009, -4/+9Too bad Verizon has to charge $300 if you want to break your contract. Great way to keep your costumers from bailing for AT&T and the iPhone...
- proverbs17, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5ahhhh.... Nothing like sitting back and watching the big boys play!!!!! I really love these commercials (well, the GOOD ones anyway. The first Droid commercial was stupid!). I also like the Mac vs Windows ads. MS needs to step up their game and bring out some decent ads to counter.
The bottom line is that competition lowers prices and drives innovation. Look how long we had to suffer with IE until Firefox came along. Now we have a plethora of browsers to choose from.
It's all good..... -
