- G-RaZoR, on 11/06/2009, -0/+16It's like we took a ride on a time machine.
- capyoda, on 11/06/2009, -0/+11another upcoming Droid: HTC H.G. Wells
- MrScotchBoy, on 11/06/2009, -0/+10can haz do over?! :P
- deathguppie, on 11/06/2009, -0/+7Putting a lower priced "droid" phone in their line up is a great move for Verizon, and an even better move for Android. Being able to use the same apps no matter what phone you have. Top of the line or bottom is of great interest to anyone who uses their phone for anything more than just talking to their mother.
- zephc, on 11/06/2009, -1/+8Product name/brand dilution? Consumer confusion?
- msaleem, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5Can't believe they are launching it the same day as the droid.
- wealer, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5Bye-bye ol' blackberry!
- xelloss, on 11/06/2009, -1/+6AT&T in my area is like paying for 80 bucks a month for an iPod touch.
- malex, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5There's an app for that!
- xxmjumpman23xx, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4If you have the money get the droid. Real keyboard, faster processor, bigger screen, 5mp camera with flash, more memory, android 2.0, etc.
- McBadass, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4Sold.
- Nephersir7, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3"If you have the money get the droid"
Considering how much a mandatory data plan costs (+$2000), anyone able to afford a $99 subsidized smartphone is able to afford a $199 subsidized smartphone - palmer, on 11/06/2009, -2/+5Thanks for that rundown of your dilemma. Are you doing OK otherwise? Did that rash clear up?
- palmer, on 11/06/2009, -1/+4We will sit breathless and preoccupied until we hear from you.
- Ravatar, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3Verizon is going to be naming all their Android phones "Droid" I heard.
- jarofclay, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2Eris will probably get an upgrade to 2.0 soon. HTC announced they would be upgrading the Hero (Sprint sister phone to Eris) to 2.0 later, but no release date. HTC likes to tweak Android quite a bit before they release stuff. So far everything they add to it has a very polished look.
You can expect to see 2.0 on the Eris, but it could be a few months. - altgeeky1, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2>None of them compare to the iPhone. I don't even to have to see it to know they aren't going to beat Steve Jobs.
iPhone has a lot of weaknesses - lack of upgradability, and a closed platform (you can't easily distribute your own apps). All you need to make a superior product is to address those 2 issues, and have a slick UI.
As Apple fans always say, "market share" is irrelevant, so long as your chosen platform does what you need it to better than anything else.
- McBadass, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2Which one should I get???
- thediggpigg, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2Its nice to see an honest smart phone review that doesn't try and make every smart phone ever made after the iPhone an "iPhone Killer".
- KrazyGamerHead, on 11/06/2009, -1/+3Should be interesting to see how this phone holds up in comparison to the Palm Pre, iPhone, etc... I don't know too much about it, but then again I don't think too much was said about it. I have to admit the "iDon't" commercial Verizon did at least got a me a little intrigued.
- RedShoulder, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2I recently bought the iPhone 3GS (and jailbroke it)... Not bad, but not happy so much...
Android is the future. - kjones555, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Holy crap! Deja Vu!
- malex, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1"To the Prettiest One"?
- 818digg, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1I'll have to get my hands on one in the next week or so and see how it is.
- zephyear, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1well i was gonna get the env touch but since this is the same price
really do want a physical keyboard though, can't afford the motorola droid right now though - ArcOfSpades, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1http://xkcd.com/656/
- sillyelf74, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Well the price is right for sure, and I like that it's an all touch phone (not interested in the Motorola Droid because it has a physical keyboard). But why is it running android 1.5? Would it kill them to upgrade to v2.0?
- gwhenning, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Isn't 2.0 required to use the turn by turn GPS? Maybe it's in the licensing so the cheaper phones don't cannibalize the more expensive phones. (ie, features are cut on purpose like the old 486 vs 486 sx)
- palmer, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1I can't believe whoever owns that trademark isn't suing the other. Or that someone failed to secure it.
- jkaechler, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1dude, ease off the apple kool-aid. I actually like my windows mobile phone as much as you love your iphone, but i'm not slammin the droid before i get some face time with one. The market will decide if the droid(s) can catch up with the iphone, and its way to early to decide it now.
- toolboxnj, on 11/06/2009, -1/+2Why name the two phones the same thing?
- mastaphoo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Great Scott, I knew 89 mph wouldn't work right.
- altgeeky1, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Now I know for sure that you're being facetious.
- eldridgea, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Although I've heard the Sense UI has multi-touch where the Droid definitely doesn't.
Also, it's getting the update to 2.0, no word on when though.
I could be wrong about the multi-touch? Anyone know?
Apparently the Eris is a Verizon-ified Hero, so they should be the same. - McBadass, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1I read on that it does not have multi touch stock, but might be able to upgrade with a software update.
http://skattertech.com/2009/11/motorola-droid-veri ... - McBadass, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Nephersir7, I am correct in assuming that both phones have the same data plan cost/subsidization?
- dmazzoni, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1The minimum voice plan is $40/month, so on a 2 year contract that's more like $1680. Probably more than half of customers will either add more minutes or unlimited text messaging, which easily puts it over $2000.
- xxmjumpman23xx, on 11/06/2009, -1/+2The data plan is $30 a month for each of them. On a 2 year contract thats $720, not "+2000."
- TodoInTX, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Collect them all! Trade 'em with your friends!
- Jaime2000, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1They must've turned on the LHC again.
- thefox84, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Judging by the reviews, I would take this phone over the Motorola Droid.
- sillyelf74, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Do we know if Verizon has to approve the update or does HTC just push it out to the phone?
- themastersb, on 11/06/2009, -1/+1I'll be sold on whichever one I can actually buy. I wasn't allowed to buy an iPhone apparently because they are apparently only given with a "plan".
- IKORKYI, on 11/06/2009, -1/+1you're a moron.
- BerateBirthers, on 11/06/2009, -1/+0Why do you an open platform? The Apple store have everything you could want (unless you're the sick puppy who wants to practice shaking babies). And, why would you need to upgrade it? It's the perfect piece of engineering machinery.
Who do you trust, Steve Jobs and his brilliant Apple engineers or some random internet boob? - appleKKK, on 11/06/2009, -5/+1which is cooler?....a fully operating freezer, or one thats turned off?
- BerateBirthers, on 11/06/2009, -9/+1None of them compare to the iPhone. I don't even to have to see it to know they aren't going to beat Steve Jobs.
- HotLeper, on 11/06/2009, -14/+5Get the iphone instead. You'll be much happier.
