- LetsGoToClass, on 11/13/2009, -0/+34Yet they still haven't invented a way for me to find out if the girl I'm having cybersex with is really a dude. COME ON FUTURE
- myleech1, on 11/13/2009, -1/+24Isn't it a bit too early to be announcing the best inventions of 2009? There's still one and a half months (~12.5%) of the year left. Trying to be first to market?

50. The World's Fastest (Steam-Powered) Car - SuicideMouse, on 11/13/2009, -1/+20Click "View All".
- CaviMike, on 11/13/2009, -0/+19If it doesn't exist yet, it's not a ***** invention, it's just an idea.
Can't believe I'm about to bury a Time article.
Buried. - theaceoface, on 11/13/2009, -1/+18As time has gone by, Time has appeared to me as less and less reputable... This list sorta furthers this perception of mine

How is a cloud an invention? - Wrangler76, on 11/13/2009, -3/+14Natal is one of the best inventions of 2009? They also decided to call kids these days the "Xbox generation" in the description for the School of One invention. I wonder how much money Microsoft gave to Time.
- the8thbit, on 11/14/2009, -0/+11Natal is more important than a vaccination for AIDS, everyone knows that.
- publiclurker, on 11/13/2009, -0/+10I'm sure they can get store credit if they saved the receipt.

The World's Fastest (Steam-Powered) Car - walrusryan, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7I don't know if anyone read the worst inventions... but I thought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was awesome!
- xXSheepyXx, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7Mercury - where the sun pushes surface temperatures to 800°F (426°C).
The Mercury Probe - Covered in an insulating ceramic skin, it will endure temperatures of 700°F (370°C)
That's a bit of a margin isnt it? - MaxterICC, on 11/13/2009, -2/+8A much as I love the Ares rocket, I wouldn't call it an invention. It's about as much an invention as a new civic compared with the civics of the 80s.
Not to take away from the sick-nastiness of the Ares project though... that thing is incredible. - theaceoface, on 11/13/2009, -1/+7Your on to something there... Time even devoted a cover to the Xbox and has done several articles on it, all of which seem overly glowing. Don't get me wrong, I like the 360, but my hunch is something is going on there.
- drunkenkite, on 11/13/2009, -0/+6Do the xray specs let me see through womens clothing? If so then NUMBER 1!
- FLCProductions, on 11/13/2009, -1/+6A 10 Million dollar light bulb? That would suck if it was defective.
- bated321, on 11/13/2009, -2/+7It is called capitalism. Your country is founded on it. Get used to it.
- diblasio, on 11/13/2009, -0/+5I can't believe they left out the slanket.... :(
- browntiger, on 11/13/2009, -1/+5The AIDS vaccine number 5? Really? Even tho it doesn't even work!?
- xXSheepyXx, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3"The finest moments occur when the bureaucrats give the designers a clean sheet of drafting paper and let them dream."
Kind of sum's it all up. - giyad, on 11/13/2009, -2/+5god invented it
/s - ZenBane, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3Apparently the person still hasn't discovered scaling images while retaining a 1:1 aspect ratio.
- raptorlightning, on 11/13/2009, -1/+3Anyone else notice that none of these are actually inventions, just old ***** that has been built upon?
I think the US has stopped being creative and actually inventing things. This list tends to prove it. - benroy, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2The cyborg beetle was one of the scariest ***** things i've ever heard of.
- Sail3, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2It won't be at the surface.
- xyqxyq, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2The article says the $10 million figure comes from the value of a cash award and federal purchasing agreements from possibly winning the "L prize." Development could have cost much more.
- nmerouze, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2If you tweet with your mind you must be careful to not thinking of tweeting while peeing... oh no everybody do that already. Nevermind.
- brsox2445, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2In my comm class last year i did a speech on the top 10 inventions, from the Time list, and i thought it was a good list. I dont see as many things that stand out to me on this list though. But i do see some good stuff. But vertical farming sounds very cool.
- sierrabravo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2"personal carbon footprint?" sure it became "popular" this year, but you never said anybody invented it - DIBS! You owe me a Coke.
- Rockkybox, on 11/14/2009, -1/+3Yeah and hell, why not have lions roaming the streets, got to keep the population down. How about we get the christians to start wearing condoms/allowing abortions first?
- MrAwesomeMan, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1When did a cloud become an invention?
- morrislevy, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1This was MY story, I submitted this initially, and someone stole it, probably buried mine for your version of it. Go fall in a ditch and die. Signed, -- Not Happy.
- bobbykernels, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1Wow, I'd hate to be one of the poor folks in the "placebo group" for the AIDS vaccine.

- steviesteveo, on 11/14/2009, -1/+2I think all light bulbs suck if they're defective regardless of price
- Jimbo282, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1YouTube Funk an invention?? This list is terrible and the top 10 is just ridiculous
- antdude, on 11/13/2009, -1/+2Is it me or is http://digg.com/gadgets/The_50_Best_Inventions_of_ ... broken?
- Rockkybox, on 11/14/2009, -1/+2What about if your mum caught AIDS? (Frankly she should take more precautions if shes sleeping around like that) would you still be happy to see her martyed even if there was a cure? How about reducing population by allowing euthinasia under specific circumstances, and educating people about family planning; rather than just letting people die in the prime of their life?
- doomestic, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1How exactly could an LCD screen on a camera "display" 3D pictures without glasses?!
- rif42, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1"#13 The Solar Shingle"
Wonderful but hardly new to the world. BIPV - Building-integrated photovoltaics used as roof has existed for a couple of years. E.g. here a company from Schweiz:
http://www.3-s.ch/
Also companies in Germany and Britain makes similar roof tile-panels. Roof integrated panels are more expensive than just a classic roof, but certainly less expensive than normal roof + solar PV panels. - rif42, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1"#27 The Universal Unicycle"
Nice, here is another electric UniCycle made in 2008.
http://enicycle.com/images.html
These nimble vehicles make a Segway look clumsy like a SUV in comparison. - Torturor, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1A robo-penguin sounds ***** useful
- Wubsy, on 11/14/2009, -1/+2You forgot the /s.
- loaded123, on 11/14/2009, -1/+2That's pretty much the cost to develop it. That isn't the actual cost of the light bulb once it's ready for the public.
- rif42, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1http://gizmodo.com/5057832/philips-3d-autostereosc ...
Philips demonstrated these kind of screens in 2008 at exhibitions like IFA in Berlin DE and at IBC in Amsterdan NL, but now have put development on hold. 3D with glasses are now in vogue again. Perhaps in some years time the TV/screen industry will reinvent the no glasses 3D. - nosecohn, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1FTA: "...if history teaches us anything, it's that the space program's grimmest chapters... unfold when policy planners lean too hard on engineers. The finest moments occur when the bureaucrats give the designers a clean sheet of drafting paper and let them dream."
So true. -
