starting at $300.
I'll risk it with my "choppy, buffeted air". - samard2002, on 10/17/2009, -8/+147If he's such a genius, why is he releasing a fan in the late Fall?
- protogenxl, on 10/17/2009, -2/+119"I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows."
-Bart Simpson - solarwind24, on 10/17/2009, -16/+104Wow. You guys are ridiculous. This is really sad. The guy makes something, and markets it and the second it's announced, it's attacked. Sure, he says the fan has no blades. For all of our purposes, yes, the fan has no blades. The point he's trying to make with that statement is that the fan does not work like a conventional fan. It's not like the guy is trying to convert us into christianity or anything... He's just designing and marketing a product. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It doesn't make you look smart or cool because you've figured out that the fan ACTUALLY has a "blade".
- Klowner, on 10/17/2009, -0/+83But talking into it doesn't make a neat wharble voice :(
- Ockniel, on 10/17/2009, -2/+76If you make one big enough, could it suck a person through it and catapult them some amount of distance?
- yocouchdigga, on 10/17/2009, -1/+68Why did I picture Vince..."Look at this fan! You followin' me, camera guy? Look at it, it's choppy, it's got dust on it, you can't dry your dog with it... it's not working. That's why you need my new Dyson Bladeless, it's made by a knighted guy, you know knighted guys make good stuff." ?
- KibblesnBitts, on 10/17/2009, -9/+68Ah, the bad guy from Die Hard with a Vengance made a bladeless fan, who knew?
- vibr8, on 10/17/2009, -11/+66news flash - not everywhere is in america
- Coufu, on 10/17/2009, -5/+56I like how he tries to talk crap about fans with blades to make his product look better. Rough uncomfortable bladey fan anyone?
- tovarish22, on 10/17/2009, -6/+38"It's MegaMaid...she's gone from suck to blow!"
- StigNordas, on 10/16/2009, -7/+39That's pretty rad. I just came across one of his 'air blade' hand dryers at the airport last week, so awesome.
- Archcoder, on 10/17/2009, -8/+34The blades didn't go away, they simply shrank and moved to the base of the unit.
- kostka, on 10/17/2009, -32/+58The fan has blades. It's in no way a "bladeless fan" just because you can't see them.
If you believe this guy then YES magic really is real and magicians and procure rabbits from a hat on a ***** whim. - DaviDTC, on 10/17/2009, -0/+25954.5 cubic foot/minute

"It uses "Air Multiplier" technology to push 119 gallons of smooth air out every second." - freeridstylee, on 10/17/2009, -4/+29How does an impeller differ from a blade?
- iheartbakon, on 10/17/2009, -0/+23"I find your lack of blade disturbing."
- miket, on 10/17/2009, -2/+24europe has winter too...

- brownsound00, on 10/17/2009, -1/+22IIII AAAMMM IRROOOOON MAAAAAAN
- GorfTron, on 10/17/2009, -2/+23This will deny an entire generation the pleasure of Darth Vader voices in the fan.
- samard2002, on 10/17/2009, -2/+22Hint: in the video he says he is targeting the UK and America for the product.
- andyp7, on 10/17/2009, -8/+28There are an awful lot of hateful comments here, jealous people?
If apple made this product they would sell it for double and people would be lapping it up. - mabsark, on 10/17/2009, -0/+20You owe me 4 new fingertips, you evil bastard.
- TheTyPod, on 10/17/2009, -1/+21LUUUUUUUKKKEEEEEE –––– I AMMMMM YOOOOUR FATHERRRRRRRRRRR.
- commenter01, on 10/17/2009, -3/+22Besides the fact that it's misleading to say that it "multiplies" the airflow. If it were, we'd be looking at a machine that violates the laws of thermodynamics. What it's really doing is trading off high pressure/low mass for low pressure/high mass airflow.
Oh and btw... those little holes in its intake are gonna get so covered with dust... - stilesja, on 10/17/2009, -2/+21Because its not powerful enough to keep you cool in the summer?
- h0v3rb1k3s, on 10/17/2009, -0/+18Good question. Just a blade in a different place.
- Smiley09, on 10/17/2009, -0/+17Entirely safe eh? Sounds like a challenge.
- sanman, on 10/17/2009, -3/+20can he make a quiet CPU fan or power supply fan for computers?
or will we just go with ion-wind for that stuff?
could this thing be useful for propulsion applications - or is it just limited to low velocity air?
Could you somehow make a helicopter or hovercraft that works on this concept?
Could Tom Clancy write a techno-thriller novel around this?
The Hunt for the SlowNews October... - EngineerDIVO, on 10/17/2009, -1/+18Being that it's a small turbine inside the base moving air, I imagine it will be much louder at high speeds, sounding like a Dustbuster (in fact that's exactly what it sounds like in the video when he turns it to high). I'd much rather have a larger traditional fan moving at slower RPMs. Much quieter that way.
- xenuxenuts, on 10/17/2009, -0/+16It would be far safer to engage in that activity with dyson's fan than a regular fan.
- jcostom, on 10/17/2009, -0/+15Not to rag on your mom, but if it's clogging, she's doing it wrong. We've had a Dyson for about 4 years now, and it's been a fantastic vac. It's a DC-7 we got at Costco.
It sucks, but like in the way you want to for a vacuum. - Eric-tile, on 10/17/2009, -3/+18"It's sucking my will to live!"
- mlvassallo, on 10/17/2009, -1/+15If you watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPM3AQjimEU
They show it actually working... and it is awful loud! - OfoarHeffinsake, on 10/17/2009, -0/+14Patrick Swayze made a documentary about bouncers. It's called "Roadhouse" and it will teach you everything you need to know about the glorious life of a bouncer. Did you know that a bouncer is incapable of being hurt by pain? It's true! You also get to be best friends with Sam Elliot, and you gain the magical ability to literally tear the throats out of people who suggest they might prison-rape you.
I tell ya, being a bouncer is pretty sweet. - CaviMike, on 10/17/2009, -0/+14I was hoping they'd give some demonstration of just how powerful it is, at least point it at his hair or something.
- mcprogrammer, on 10/17/2009, -0/+13That's not exactly true (about jet engines). The blades in a jet engine aren't for propulsion, they just feed air into the combustion chamber. The combustion is what gives thrust.
Turbofans (most jets) do have large propellers in the front that are driven by the jet engine and provide thrust though, so if those are what you are referring too, you are partially correct. The tube is essential though; without it, you wouldn't have a prop plane with lots of blades, you would have a jet engine that doesn't work. - valis, on 10/17/2009, -4/+17It's interesting that you can make a good (and commonly stated) point while missing the point altogether.
- stilesja, on 10/17/2009, -1/+13Yeah, they get all clogged up on my dyson vacuum too...
- inactive, on 10/17/2009, -0/+12I hope for your sake you don't plan on pursuing any career where you need to recognize people. Not even as a bouncer. The guy looks NOTHING like Jeremy Irons.
- DanAtkinson, on 10/17/2009, -0/+12Yes, wake me when it reaches $50. Then I might be interested. Until then, this is just something for people with too much money and too little sense.
- themastersb, on 10/17/2009, -0/+11You might be able to get some A/C at that price.
- mlvassallo, on 10/17/2009, -1/+12The fantastic one with blades that I have in my bedroom that I got from Target for $19.99.
- Scaryclouds, on 10/17/2009, -0/+11Or maybe 2 easy payments and 1 difficult payment?
I miss you Mitch Hedberg :( - ThanatosST, on 10/17/2009, -1/+11Yes.
If you want them to survive it, then that's a bit more difficult. - protogenxl, on 10/17/2009, -0/+10Screaming Yellow Honkers

- eadint, on 10/17/2009, -0/+9Turbines and impellers do not work the same way as fan blades, this is why squirrel cage motors and turbines are used for cooling and power generation. not to mention the cool factor.
- nospinhere, on 10/17/2009, -0/+8no, ***** you, Dyson rules *****!
