- sandman979, on 12/13/2008, -3/+27Holy ***** no ATRAC3? hehehe
- badqat, on 12/13/2008, -2/+23So, why can't Sony put this into a SE phone?
Or better yet, why doesn't Sony put this into a SE phone? - erasermcfleafly, on 12/13/2008, -3/+17People still use walkmans?
- Superpoo, on 12/13/2008, -0/+13Walkman is a brand, not a device
- elitedw, on 12/13/2008, -2/+13You had me at "Drag and Drop".
- OutlawAdidas, on 12/13/2008, -3/+13I'm stickin with vinyl.
- iOsiris, on 12/13/2008, -1/+9Hey Sony, why don't you put a ***** 3.5mm headphone jack instead of your RETARDED PROPRIETARY CONVERTER ***** into your Walkman phones?
- usingpond, on 12/13/2008, -3/+11Wow, only two years too late.
- whazup911, on 12/13/2008, -4/+12Kinda like Apple?
- MattBD, on 12/13/2008, -0/+7Walkman is just a brand name nowadays. I've had a Walkman portable CD player and a Walkman HD MP3 player. You could say the same thing about the iPod Touch, Nano and Shuffle because originally iPods were HD-based and now more and more of them use flash memory.
- MacParrot, on 12/13/2008, -0/+7I heard it was 95.12311%. Obviously you're exagerating
- skate3214, on 12/13/2008, -1/+8.....This one runs on a battery too.....
- Revovisionary, on 12/13/2008, -0/+5But will I'll be able to listen to my audiobooks from audible.com on it? If I can do that and there is no hidden DRM then I'll buy one.
- shimmi147, on 12/13/2008, -2/+7i endorse this question
- pigfister, on 12/13/2008, -3/+7probably 10x what it's worth after they are made by foxconn in the sweatshops and at least twice the cost of the same model by another manufacturer!
- JigoroKano, on 12/13/2008, -1/+5Oh it's a great player, but good luck with that SonicStage *****. I couldn't even get it to run on my computer last time I tried.
The device is too crippled to ever take off. - TheWittyMan, on 12/13/2008, -9/+13I'm sure about 95.12312% of the people here have not even listened to Sony's MP3 Walkman. In terms of sound quality it completely blows the iPod out of the water. There's no question about it.
And I've owned three iPods before my Walkman...but I will never go back. The sound quality is simply too good, which is worth nearly any price in my book.
Also, first digg comment! - scratend0788, on 12/13/2008, -2/+6mirror?
- sfacets, on 12/13/2008, -3/+6I'm never again going to buy a Sony product. DRM-riddled, expensive, and bad customer care.
- ibeetle, on 12/13/2008, -2/+5Sony has always made the most beautiful and incredible hardware; second only to Apple in design in recent years.
It is the out of focus business practices, and software that ***** things up. - inactive, on 12/12/2008, -10/+13I want one! I wonder what the price points will be?
- WiseWeasel, on 12/13/2008, -3/+6Looks like a nice hardware design mock-up and impressive specs, but we'll have to wait and see if Sony's tendencies to not play nice with interoperability/format support, and to totally suck at complex interface design can be overcome before passing judgment (not to mention the ability to actually produce such a beast for an affordable price before the decade is up). Would be sweet if it were running something like LiMo or Android...
- roebeet, on 12/13/2008, -0/+3I can't read it right now, either - but I assume they mean the ability to add songs by simply dragging a file onto the player in whatever file manager tool you use (no software requirement). iPod's / Zune's don't allow that - you need to use their software to add songs.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -1/+4If this thing won't be a phone I don't want it.
- Wrangler76, on 12/13/2008, -0/+3They have not been tied to SonicStage outside of Japan for a few years now.
- dentarthurdent1, on 12/13/2008, -0/+3incorrect - might have been true 4 years ago, but they have always played mp3s.
- cthellis, on 12/13/2008, -0/+3Welcome to Digg. Enjoy your stay.
- ahoyhoy, on 12/13/2008, -0/+3That was sick. When's your first album coming out?
- GregoryHarbin, on 12/13/2008, -0/+3Now that I might purchase.
- pigfister, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2FM in the UK is soon to be turned off in favour of DAB, well so the government can sell off the radio spectrum.
- frsrblch, on 12/13/2008, -1/+3Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I have a 3 year old Walkman, and though it still works as well as ever the software for it is horrible. The thing has zero drag-and-drop functionality, and music on the device can't be copied back to the device. It's just a pain to copy music onto the damn thing.
I had a Creative MP3 player to play around with 2 years ago, and the level of usability just put Sony to shame. - scarwars, on 12/13/2008, -1/+3'mine runs on bio-neural gel-packs
- Schmich, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2Says the one who was bothered writing a comment.
- foxracer08, on 12/13/2008, -3/+5im super excited for this except that i know that it will cost a ton
- DatoeDakari, on 12/13/2008, -2/+4"This will be the most advanced music, video and photo Walkman music player ever released by Sony to date"
No, really? I assumed they were going to start coming out with previous versions of their players, cuz ya know, going backward in technology always sells.
Someone give Mr. MacManus the award for the 'most obvious statement of the year' - roebeet, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2Why is TheWittyMan being dugg down? He's correct that the Sony MP3 Walkman has excellent SQ - arguably better than the current line of iPod's out there. This is assuming you are using the headphone jack on the iPod's and not the line-out with an external amp.
- timedalkat, on 12/13/2008, -4/+6Don't give these proprietary ***** bitches any more of your money. They make Microsoft look kind. DRM-douchebags. Root-kit retards.

Have a great day :) - scarwars, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1hmm.. well it works on my Samsung p2 and an old SanDisk..
(no bundled software installed, just using Directory Opus) - cthellis, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1How can you perform a mass suicide all by yourself? Or were you referring to the matter you are comprised of, rather than number of people? ;-)
- JuanBSU, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1Ooh! More features than the iPhone!?
- cthellis, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1While MD's UI was lackluster and got obnoxious when you put more songs on it, the players themselves were built quite ruggedly and had some AMAZING power management. (I still have no idea how my friend's would last more than a month of in-car playing on a single AA.)
The XMB and other recent design shows that Sony is better at that now, and since players like this are firmware-updatable anyway, bugs or issues are addressable, so it's not THAT much to be worried about...
The main questions will be "what's the price?" and "is there ANY conceivable reason to get this over an iPod Touch?" - Jerk, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1Couldn't they have rendered it in something other than MS Paint?
- vizeroth, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1I can't stand Sony, but nothing you said means jack to me when I'm looking for a music player. If I were looking for a stand-alone music player, all I'd really want is the ability to send files to it via WiFi as just a networked storage device so I wouldn't have to worry about what OS and software is installed on the computers in my home.
Music Store? Nope, got music.
Software? Nope, want to listen to music.
Web browser? Nope, want to listen to music.
OS X Support? How about just acting like a hard drive when you connect it to a computer instead of requiring some stupid software to connect to it? Of course, Sony's probably just as guilty of doing this crap as Apple.
Or I can just keep using my phone to listen to music and transfer files to the microSD card through the computer's slot or over the USB port. - cthellis, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1Unless you have a micro fusion generator in that thing, ALL your players are running on batteries. Batteries!
- cj485, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1i spit fire.
- BrendanSheehan, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1It's a device that has changed and evolved, Sony is the brand.
Corolla / Toyota
iPod / Apple - mithrasinvictus, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1Just don't try to drag it back out again.
- cthellis, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1It's safe to say that since they'll be putting their own browser on the thing (look at the PSP and PS3 for reference), won't have a software store for apps and games (nor would they tie this to the PSP's capabilities), it will be a lot worse.
They're catching up by offering a slick media player, but then the interest in those devices is already moving elsewhere, so they have to get in front of THAT, not kinda-sorta catch up to 2007. - syntaxgs, on 12/13/2008, -1/+2I Would CrtainlyLike a Mirror Too.
