- wolfing, on 11/12/2009, -2/+157computer mouse? what are they smoking? What will people use instead... touch screens? pfft! try using them for more than an hour and you'll need to apply Ben-Gay on your shoulders. And how about games? I'm sorry, the mouse still has a long life ahead.
- wolfing, on 11/12/2009, -0/+82Which is not better, just more convenient for a laptop.
- nahsrocketeer75, on 11/12/2009, -0/+78Fax machines will outlive the cockroaches.
- Shitokki, on 11/12/2009, -0/+66Yeah, they said the same thing about many of the same things 10 years ago. Computer mouse - not going anywhere. Will there be more alternatives - Yes.
DVDs will still be around for a good while. Faxes will continue to be needed as well. I thought they would be gone by now, but I still find I need to use mine for some people. It's 13 years old now. I can, however, see the analogue tv being obsolete. That's happening anyway, right now, as we speak. The government and tv manufacturers help force that move. - Tbags, on 11/13/2009, -0/+61Wow, the writer of this article sure seemed like he worked hard. Probably spent ALL lunch break writing it!
- meruru, on 11/12/2009, -0/+46The mobile phone charger? So batteries in the future will last forever?
- droplister, on 11/12/2009, -1/+43Bring back the typewriter!
- NinjaBear, on 11/13/2009, -0/+39PC LOAD LETTER?! What that ***** does that mean?!!
- Frozenfuryblade, on 11/13/2009, -0/+39I hate the trackpad, I click sometimes when I don't mean too, and it's a bitch to play any game on one.
- FelixDrylock, on 11/13/2009, -0/+35this article sucks
- Frozenfuryblade, on 11/13/2009, -0/+31I believe they might be referring to the new non-wired charge pads that are coming out. Those look nifty, but buying a special case for each extra device? Pass.
- Shitokki, on 11/12/2009, -0/+26I thought the same thing when scanners and e-mail were so common years ago and I still have to fax crap and not just to old geezers at the local book store. I've had to fax stuff to major banks and state government agencies. I hate it because I have to lug it out the closet and plug it in and all that crap. So, I'll probably keep it around for another few years.
- kawaiirobo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+24Damn blog spamming, instead of submitting a blog post describing an article, just post the the damn article.
- Greatmatt, on 11/12/2009, -0/+23If I'm not mistaken, you still have to plug the pad into the wall, and have a special cover or something on your phone. Regardless, it's still a phone charger, is still required, and thus will still be around for a long time.
- Truedirt, on 11/12/2009, -0/+20Wherever you do, don't touch my remote.
- Osirus1156, on 11/12/2009, -3/+22I hate fax machines. I mean I know its only 1990 and E-mail is new but come on.
- Kershek, on 11/13/2009, -3/+22I use my new Macbook Wheel.
- MacBookForMe, on 11/12/2009, -2/+20I still dream about those old fashioned file cabinets...
- Cyberdactyl, on 11/13/2009, -0/+17Hehe. . .comparing a track pad to a hi res mouse, at least in the gaming world. . . is like comparing pacman's movement to the moves in Mirror's Edge.
- DAC1138, on 11/13/2009, -3/+20The VHS still isn't gone, and people are saying the DVD is on its way out? Sheesh. People are still using their VCR and tapes to record their shows.
- coloradowild, on 11/12/2009, -0/+16I believe they are developing wireless chargers now. You can place your phone on a mat and it will charge up your phone.
- sloppychris, on 11/13/2009, -0/+16Especially since the blog doesn't even bother linking to the actual article.
- Khast, on 11/13/2009, -1/+15Landlines going away? I don't think the US has to worry that much with our ***** mobile coverage.
DVDs going away? They probably will, but with the advance of new technology a lot of people realize that the companies are trying to lock down how you can use YOUR purchased media. DVD will probably stay around until the media companies forcefully stop production like they did for the VHS in favor of the DRM capabilities.... - MpVpRb, on 11/13/2009, -1/+15Predictions are hard...especially about the future.
Another nonsense article, designed to get easy page views.
I want to read stuff from REAL visionaries, not dimwit marketoids with an agenda. - identityxcrysis, on 11/13/2009, -0/+13So basically, it's an article informing us that technology is advancing and is going to soon make current technology obsolete.
I had no idea. I thought this was it. No more advancements. I figured we'd be using the same iPods, and HDTVs and DVDs 800 years from now... - throwdini, on 11/13/2009, -0/+12Fax machines will not be going anywhere anytime soon. Most businesses take quite a while to catch up with technology. Most businesses are also risk adverse--why change what works.
- piieerrrree, on 11/13/2009, -0/+11Buried as lame, though I should've buried it as inaccurate.
- MacBookForMe, on 11/12/2009, -2/+13I was using laptop trackpad for a few years, but I am quite lucky that I am back to that old fashioned mouse, again
- Blinker1315, on 11/12/2009, -3/+14I haven't used the fax machine in my office for a month. The young people who work for me (under 25) don't even know how to use it. It was a revelation at the end of the 80s, but it's done.
- sloppychris, on 11/13/2009, -0/+11Inductive chargers must be what they're referring to. I don't see how those are different enough from regular chargers to be worth mentioning.
- sfcaptainrob, on 11/13/2009, -0/+11Really the mouse? So are we all going to be controlling PCs with our minds in the next year or two? And don't give me that track pad BS, I'll keep my mouse.
- AaronCo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+10Fax machines allow you to transmit a legally binding agreement in a matter of seconds. You can't do that via email.
DVDs are still a lot cheaper and blu-ray, and you can't play blu ray movies at 1080p on non-HDCP devices. DVDs have a lot of life left.
And landlines are still a requirement in business.
Just because you don't use a device doesn't mean it's useless for everyone. - Rwshilling, on 11/13/2009, -1/+11In 2015:
Iko 'Jitz' Fujitsu: McFLY, READ MY FAX!
Marty McFly: No! Please! No! I cannot be fired, I'm fired! Oh! - mecole21, on 11/13/2009, -0/+9worst article ever...
- jbmcb, on 11/13/2009, -0/+9The problem with laptop trackpads is not all of them work very well, and unless you use one first you can't really tell if it will work for you or not. Then, if you get one you don't like, you're screwed, as it's bolted into your laptop.
Also, trackpads suck for doing any kind of graphics work, anything requiring any kind of precision, and games. - peestandingup, on 11/13/2009, -0/+9These & other wonderfully insightful articles are brought to you by the writers of "No *****" magazine.
- kap77, on 11/13/2009, -0/+8PC mouse is the undisputed king of precision and speed for gaming, It is not going anywhere. On the same tangent, the keyboard is not in any danger either as typing on a touch screen is no match for a real keyboard with tactile response. Think about texting on an iPhone compared to texting on a full keyboard phone, the iPhone can't provide a comparable experience.
- UselessTrivia, on 11/13/2009, -0/+8Stupid McFly! Those boards don't work on water...unless you got POWA!!
- blindmelon1, on 11/13/2009, -1/+9BRING BACK FUTURAMA!!!
- jv2k, on 11/13/2009, -0/+8Burried the article for the mouse and charger comment.
There isn't even a trend to suggest the mouse is on it's way out and smart phones have terrible battery lives which would should lead to an increase in sales. - AmyVernon, on 11/12/2009, -4/+12I totally prefer it to a mouse. But will it completely replace it? Probably not.
- sfcaptainrob, on 11/13/2009, -0/+8So only six more years until flying cars and hover boards? Sweet.
- muzzy, on 11/13/2009, -1/+9What a horrible article. Poor writing and very inaccurate.
Sure, some of these technologies are very outdated and will be phased out sooner or later, but "about to bit the dust" is really pushing it.
DVD players aren't going anywhere, and it certainly won't be Blu-ray replacing them. Streaming content eventually will, but it's a long way off... gotta wait until the majority of people have a 5Mbps+ connection.
The list completely lost credibility to me when it claimed that the Wii was going to bite the dust because of Natal. No bias there, right?
Buried. - sfcaptainrob, on 11/13/2009, -0/+8I actually don't know anyone using a VCR on a regular basis anymore.
- copypastry, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7I use electrodes embedded in my brain.
- Hivetyrant, on 11/13/2009, -1/+8That comment made my day.
"No, not again. I... why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to God, one of these days, I just kick this piece of ***** out the window." - alliebabaoopcat, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7Show a little more love for the Wii. Shilling for Microsoft? Project Natal is still vaporware. Don't forget their Ipod killer, their Google killer, their Playstation killer, etc.
- Cyberdactyl, on 11/13/2009, -0/+6The fax WILL die. But yes, it may take 4-6 more years.
- antifolderr, on 11/13/2009, -0/+6This article is retarded. Believe it or not, only a small percent of us feel the need to upgrade our technology every 6 months, none the less afford it.
For one, DVDs aren't going anywhere. Sure, I watch the majority of my movies via internet these days too, but I've managed to amass quite the collection, and let's face it, you can't beat the quality of the movie if you just get of your lazy ass and buy it.
And the mouse? Touchscreen PC's can blow me. annoying as hell if you ask me.
Buried. This article is far to optimistic and speaks for about 1 % of us, me not included. I enjoy living in the normal world. - lurcherman, on 11/12/2009, -1/+7Transmitted energy? It's a big leap from microwaves, hope you're right because if it's the precursor to large scale energy transmission who knows what we could power with it; aeroplanes perhaps.
