- capyoda, on 10/28/2009, -13/+349in the future, when we eventually have reasonable rate plans like europe/asia, i'm going to tell my kid a story about how we used to bend over and get it from behind by the telecommunication companies.
"does that mean you're homosexual daddy?"
"yes son. yes it does. that's why your mom left me. cuz at&t screwed me over hard." - vtbarrera, on 10/28/2009, -5/+195The 300 hour standby for the iPhone 3GS is such a joke.
- mcwattersm, on 10/28/2009, -21/+176Why? You obviously aren't going to be taking professional pictures, you are going to be taking drunken pictures with your friends which will come out bad regardless. I doubt you will see a noticeable different between 3 and 5 megapixel.
- DrDragun, on 10/28/2009, -6/+123Jesus, data plans are a crock of *****. $3000 cost of ownership over 2 years? I'll stick to my laptop and city/cafe wifi, tyvm.
- casspa, on 10/28/2009, -18/+122Droid FTW!!!!!!
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 10/28/2009, -0/+96How did QWERTY keyboard not make the list? 2 out 3 of these have one and it's a major factor for a lot of consumers. How about non-proprietary cabling? Maybe a little less flashy then a keyboard, but I would say it factors into decision making. Screen size is another factor, also unmentioned. Neat to see the Droid compared to the comp. but it would be nice if it was more... neutral... in the comparisons.
- YourMomsAnAnon, on 10/28/2009, -7/+79So, you're saying that your wife left you because someone ***** her better?
- RoroCo, on 10/28/2009, -6/+69Stop jerking off on your phone then.
- capyoda, on 10/28/2009, -2/+64yes.
- sdipaola, on 10/28/2009, -5/+67They needed to mention size of screen which is a plus for the droid - for me bigger screen - better web browsing
Driod: 3.7-inch (480×854), 16:9 aspect ratio, touchscreen
iPhone: 3.5 inch(480 x 320), 3:2 aspect ratio, touchscreen
pre: - small - BillyB, on 10/28/2009, -6/+66Who can put a 720p video camera in theirs first? That's my challenge to these manufacturers.
- mcwattersm, on 10/29/2009, -3/+61"The number is higher so it must be much better!"
- RoroCo, on 10/28/2009, -9/+665.0 megapixel with a flash is what is key for me. I somehow always seem to need to take pictures indoor with my camera phone and outdoors with my real camera.
- BubblesTheChimp, on 10/28/2009, -2/+57Jitterbug FTW!
- phatboyslim, on 10/28/2009, -4/+58Buried as inaccurate:
Pre does not require Simply Everything plan, can be purchased with "Everything Data" plan for $69.99, this reduces cost of the Pre by $720.
Pre is listed at $99 (not $199) - http://www.amazon.com/Palm-Pre-100-Phone-Sprint/dp ... . This reduces Pre overall cost by $100.
Pre cost should be listed as: $1,539 for 24 mos., not $2,359. - Szacque, on 10/28/2009, -11/+60I'm on Verizon with no real way of changing carriers (right now, anyway). I'm actually looking forward to the Droid because, and let's be honest here, Verizon has the worst lineup of phones out of all major carriers. I've been waiting for a smartphone from Verizon for a pretty good while now -- almost went with the Blackberry Storm at one point but heard a lot of bad things about it. Is the Android the iPhone? No. Not at all. Is it cool enough to warrant a purchase? Sure, why not. I'll give it a try.
I still want a damn iPhone at some point, though. - coasterswim, on 10/28/2009, -1/+43Exactly. Maybe that number assumes you turn every feature off? Because with them on, 30 hours sounds more plausible.
- Shawn4168, on 10/28/2009, -1/+41The Pre is not expandable. Droid's 16 GB storage actually comes in the form of a 16GB MicroSD card that's included with the phone. So technically, you could upgrade to 32GB and beyond on the Droid when those cards become available.
- TehProphet, on 10/28/2009, -3/+39$3,000 over 2 years.. wtf? thats half of what I'm paying for my first car (interest and warranty included).. ***** that, I will stick with the $50/month cricket or boost mobile even if the phones do suck.
- ep53, on 10/28/2009, -1/+31^^^^^ Dugg for honesty!
- MScrip, on 10/28/2009, -0/+30>> "I thought the iPhone 3Gs had 32 GB storage?"
They are comparing the 16GB version for the $199 phone price.
Yes... the iPhone does have a 32GB version. - sageerrant, on 10/28/2009, -1/+30Doesn't matter. Who can include a 720p video camera that doesn't produce terrible (high-res) footage?
- krisrm, on 10/28/2009, -0/+29Wow, that's a massive screen and resolution... I did not know the Droid had such an awesome screen, and you're right, they should definitely not have overlooked that.
- cuevas4711, on 10/28/2009, -5/+33Nice, with the new Droid you spend the same amount but with better coverage. (Which phone is better will always be debated)
- eclaires, on 10/28/2009, -39/+665.0 megapixel is a big sell for me, but I'm still not ready to dump my iphone
- DaveMN, on 10/28/2009, -0/+25I'll consider a smartphone when I can get an unlimited plan for $49.99.
- c010rb1indusa, on 10/28/2009, -4/+27How come I can get an unlimited voice, text and data on boost mobile for $50 a month which operates off of Sprint's network but ATT, Spring, and Verizon unlimited plans are 100 bucks or more?
- DiggRage, on 10/28/2009, -0/+23It should be noted you can get Sprint's "Everything Data - with Any Mobile, Anytime" with unlimited data and 450 minutes a month "non-mobile calls" for $69.99.
It is really important to note, for many, that this means if you rarely make voice calls to non-mobile phones, you will have a hard time using those 450 minutes a month. In other words, you only use minutes if you are calling a non-mobile phone between 7am and 7pm.
Everything else, data, text, etc, is unlimited. This is significantly cheaper than what is shown on this website, and is why I am not motivated to leave my Sprint yet. I have a Palm Pre and will wait to see what Android phones Sprint picks up in the next few months due to this.
Therefore, you should subtract $20*24 = $480 from the chart on this website, making the TCO for "average use" for Sprint/Palm Pre over two years more like $1879, without even subtracting some taxes. That's just about $500 a year cheaper than the other phones/carriers shown on the chart. - Shawn4168, on 10/28/2009, -8/+28It seems high, but keep in mind it's not just the data plan, voice/texting is included as a part of that price too. So subtract out whatever you already spend on your cell phone plan over a 2 year period to determine the real cost of ownership.
For example, with Verizon, they're assuming you're already spending $80/month on voice/messaging (which, honestly seems pretty high, drop to 450 minutes and you're already saving $20/month), you're just adding the $29.99/month smartphone plan. - mikalveli, on 10/28/2009, -1/+21damn redtube mobile site.
- TodoInTX, on 10/28/2009, -1/+20You're only homosexual if you liked it.
- UrineEngineer, on 10/29/2009, -0/+18Cool, cool, that'll be $600.
- gankige, on 10/28/2009, -4/+22The droid looks pretty nice, and it's a pretty enticing switch from my G1 and T-Mobile plan... But I think I'll just wait til the next Android phone with a hard keyboard gets released on T-Mobile.
After all, in less than a year you'll be able to get all three of these phones for half the price. - costumemaker, on 10/28/2009, -1/+18Feel free to keep using equipment because it's made by apple. It doesn't make it superior, it just makes it apple.
I need multitasking. I use my pre for sysad work. I like to have email open at the same time I run ssh and a ts client.
I have nothing against the iphone, it just doesn't work for my needs. - ChileanGoD, on 10/28/2009, -0/+17150$ a month for a fking phone?... no thanks.
- r0bi, on 10/29/2009, -0/+17My old 2MP Nikon Coolpix takes better pictures than 3MP camera phones, so higher megapixels != better picture.
- gbarger, on 10/29/2009, -0/+17The sensor is already beyond 720p. 720 is only 1280x720 or about 1mp. The reason it's more difficult to set up the camera to record that is because of the rate it needs to be able to save the data to memory, not the size of the CCD/CMOS sensor.
- MScrip, on 10/28/2009, -2/+18Mmmmm... 720p in a sensor the size of the head of a pin.
- Joest23, on 10/28/2009, -0/+15Well, it's MUCH faster, runs Android 2.0 and is only $20 more. It is really large and heavy, so it depends on what you need. If you're a power user that cares less about size and weight, the Droid is a dream.
- costumemaker, on 10/28/2009, -0/+15The only complaint I have with your graphic is it makes it sound as if the droid has 16gb built in AND an extra memory slot. Correct me please if I am wrong, but doesnt it just come with a 16 gb card for the slot? I may be misinformed.
- cuevas4711, on 10/28/2009, -0/+15Every preview/review I have read has said that they have not restricted anything on the Droid series.
- TheHerk, on 10/29/2009, -0/+14All about the optics.
- GlitchEnzo, on 10/28/2009, -1/+15He never said anything about believing the other numbers.
- RegalBegal, on 10/28/2009, -4/+18That's great! But will I be able to identify with hip marketing to tout my individuality with the Droid? I mean, if I can't show off beer drinking apps and have it out CONSTANTLY updating facebook so someone will notice me, do I really want to buy it? Is there an app for THAT?!
- lilrabbit129, on 10/28/2009, -0/+14I just did it. Worked just fine.
- UNC81, on 10/29/2009, -5/+19Not looking like a douche with an iPhone FTW!
- BungDiddy, on 10/28/2009, -3/+16so you'll end up with grainy 5 megapixel pictures. i've never seen a cell phone that took good pictures. i doubt Droid is any different.
- Braxo, on 10/28/2009, -4/+17I thought the iPhone 3Gs had 32 GB storage?
Is the Pre or Droid expandable with memory cards? - Vintersemestre, on 10/28/2009, -3/+16Yes, and wait til the android market is a bit older. It's only going to get huge.
I'm quite content with my HTC Magic. - bringitontimx, on 10/28/2009, -4/+17The Droid does.
