- ShadySpace, on 10/26/2009, -1/+35So? I can fall off my couch and get up eventually.
- inactive, on 10/26/2009, -1/+15Robots are getting even better... oh god... But wait, it's okay, we have the captcha technology.
- palehorse864, on 10/26/2009, -0/+13We need Will Smith to run after it.
- WriterSD, on 10/26/2009, -0/+13Skynet comment in 3...2...
- nlight23, on 10/26/2009, -0/+12Aww he has a cast on his foot during the last seconds.
- wards16, on 10/26/2009, -0/+12***** awesome. I love me some biomimetics.
- yoshi8710, on 10/26/2009, -0/+7He doesn't. That's some one else's job.
- AMD64MM, on 10/26/2009, -0/+6"I’m equally impressed by the upwards scramble at 1:56. Can you imagine running at a 6 foot wall and just popping over it?" Uh, it kind of just smashed itself against the "wall" until it made it over. Still cool, but it's not like it just popped right over that obstacle.
- rusty0101, on 10/26/2009, -0/+5But beyond telling people where it is, it doesn't make much of an effort at moving.
- immatellyouwhat, on 10/26/2009, -0/+4Minority Report anyone?
- techfuture33, on 10/26/2009, -1/+5Can't believe that thing was still working after falling off the building.
- borez, on 10/26/2009, -0/+4I wonder if anybody had ever measured the G-force of an accelerating cockroach, I mean those little ***** can really move.
- sacramentalist, on 10/26/2009, -1/+5I, for one, welcome out parkourbot overlords
- fmorel90, on 10/26/2009, -0/+3Actually, this reminds me more of the Replicators. They scuttled around everywhere and were pretty resilient (except when shot at....then they always fell apart completely).
- adsaenz, on 10/26/2009, -1/+4What I wouldn't give for some DIY instructions.
- localzuk, on 10/26/2009, -0/+3These things have a lot of potential for earthquake survivor finding, military scouting, police riot scouting etc...
Very cool. - DulcetTone, on 10/27/2009, -0/+328m? I know of a robot that can fall off a 31m building, but that's another story.
- diggydougie, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3OK. Now put some intelligence in it and get rid of the tether.
- groo68, on 10/26/2009, -0/+3How else do you get to the kitchen?
- jordanmuela, on 10/26/2009, -0/+2Hello overlords
- rusty0101, on 10/26/2009, -1/+3I suspect the largest use of this variety of robot is going to be for remote sensors for the military. It would be trivial to put a microphone and low power (milli-watt level) transmitter on one of these and send it ahead of your position to gather advanced information. It gets more complicated if you want visual, but you can do a lot with a couple of ultrasonic transducers and several mikes that can pick up the reflections, then feed that data back to a backpack pc that converts it into usable information.
- anteyekon4myst, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2Falling 28 meters or stepping into a 1mm puddle where it fries...what's most likely.
- MatchStick, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2This thing isn't actually a robot, its a remote-control insect thingy.
- BillyB, on 10/26/2009, -0/+2Robot cockroaches. Horrifying.
- IamZed, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2I'd still step on it.
- DaviDTC, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2Will it still work for a week after you cut off its head?
- liquisoft, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2In 50 years I'm going to be telling people how I remember when these were first being tested...right as one scurries in with a bomb strapped to it. Skynet, and such.
- Myztry, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2Speech synthesis is getting good too. The narrator almost sounds human.
- swizzcheez, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2Dash + RepRap = Synthetic cockroach overloads.
- Ghostwo, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2My first thought was that it would drive my cat nuts. It's like a zipzap with legs.
- ynotVStony, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2This is not a robot!! Its a remote controlled device that can run fast, turn and fall on the floor. Its very well constructed but robots are supposed to have a degree of intelligence..
- zmigliozzi, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1I like its simplicity.
- MusicMagi, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Anybody that has any information on getting into the fields of robotics or AI, please contact me
- harrisbradley, on 10/26/2009, -0/+1So mythbusters was wrong
- rusty0101, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Not trivial, but doable for the acoustic feedback to useful information.
Trivial would be a mic and a transmitter. Making sure it gets to a useful location? Not so much. - aboundingrhythm, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1I just don't understand what you're trying to say. Something being Trivial means that its unimportant, or doesn't matter.
So are you saying its of little value to put a microphone/transmitter on one of these things because it would be difficult to get them in useful locations? Or are you saying it would be EASY to put a microphone/transmitter on one, but it'd be hard to direct it to a useful location? - saltmiser, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Well seeing as how they're made out of cardboard, I think some gasoline and a match will take care of these buggers *puts cig out in one's eye*
- aboundingrhythm, on 10/26/2009, -1/+1trivial?
- piieerrrree, on 10/26/2009, -1/+1I couldn't stop giggling
- shumbora, on 10/26/2009, -1/+1optimus prime is a robot this thing looks like it crawled out of the amazon jungle
- KooperG, on 10/26/2009, -3/+1this is old news.... the thing's been around for months...
- daytona81, on 10/26/2009, -3/+1this is dumb, people with this kind of knowledge do things more important than make crawling cardboard.
- slashdotordigg, on 10/26/2009, -4/+1I want to see these as big as a hummer. imagine a dozen of these as big as a hummer, dropped from sky invading those iraq bastards' caves.</nerdgasm>
- MacBandit, on 10/26/2009, -5/+1So it can fall 28 meters and still work big freaking deal. The black box on an airliner can fall 10,000 meters and still work.
- iwashere2, on 10/26/2009, -6/+1Did he die?
