- RoroCo, on 10/28/2009, -5/+110Verizon is my hot crazy ex girlfriend. Every time I am ready to dump the crazy bitch, she buys some new lacy outfit and I end up coming back to her...
You know I love you baby.... - Rojs, on 10/28/2009, -7/+74My iPhone just died this week. Goodbye AT&T and your crappy network!!!!
- AWBoy666, on 10/28/2009, -6/+72$199 means this is worth cancelling my crappy AT&T service. Verizon here I come!
- tonmil, on 10/28/2009, -2/+60Free Google Maps (turn-by-turn) Navigation is a killer app on the Droid.
- DanteDefiance, on 10/28/2009, -2/+49OK I know people said this about the Palm Pre, G1, HTC Hero, and Xenu knows how many other phones, but Droid legitimately looks it could be better than the iPhone.
The hardware is sweet and Android 2.0 is bitching. If Verizon doesn't cripple this baby I'll leave AT&T as soon possible! - ralphthemagi, on 10/28/2009, -3/+45What are you talking about? This will be the first decent phone that Verizon has EVER had. They usually sell you old, crippled ***** in a box.
- DanteDefiance, on 10/28/2009, -3/+39I'm pretty sure this time, this IS the Droid I'm looking for.
- lantza, on 10/28/2009, -5/+33Try using your thumbs instead of your forehead.
- hawksfan03, on 10/28/2009, -6/+27brb, gotta go clean up my pants
- MWeather, on 10/28/2009, -2/+23I think Verizon and Apple are the only ones who care whether this dislodges the iPhone. The rest of us only care about which phone is better.
- JoeF8577, on 10/28/2009, -2/+20I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
- Robozilla, on 10/28/2009, -0/+18This may in fact be the best phone ever made. Period. Yes you can still argue that the iPhone has more apps, but Android is catching up fast, and in terms of hardware the Droid kicks the iPhones ass.
- DanteDefiance, on 10/28/2009, -0/+17For one it's on a network with better coverage. That aside, Android is a much more open platform and allows for things not possible on the iPhone. Android 2.0 is totally customizable, you can multitask, download emulators, and that's just the beginning!
- DanteDefiance, on 10/28/2009, -1/+18Good news everyone!
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/28/motorola-droid- ... - o0FlipZ0o, on 10/28/2009, -0/+16Patiently waiting for a GSM version so I can buy it unlocked to work in Canada.......
COME ON MOTOROLA! - swollentiki, on 10/28/2009, -0/+16Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie!!!! I'm getting one as soon as it comes out. Finally a good phone from Verizon!!
- AmazingAndrex, on 10/28/2009, -0/+133.7" WVGA screen, to start. And, well, the hardware keyboard. The internals are roughly the same as the iPhone 3GS (ARM Cortex A8 CPU + PowerVR GPU).
- reiggin, on 10/28/2009, -3/+16Yes, but you're forgetting that the Pre was on Sprint... a distant third in market share with nearly half the subscribers of either AT&T or Verizon. No one cares about Sprint and no one's going to leave either AT&T or Verizon for a Sprint phone, unless it can sort your laundry, do your dishes, and verbally berate your spouse for you.
Verizon, on the other hand, has a phone that rivals the iPhone at least, if not trounces it. Being a true competitor to AT&T (solid network, half decent customer service, and 5 times the 3G coverage [based on their own claims]), Verizon may just do what others haven't been able to do thus far and put a real dent in Apple's iPhone sales. At least here in the US. - vtnerd, on 10/28/2009, -0/+11Have you missed the iDon't commercial?
- LeftsideChaos, on 10/28/2009, -2/+13Does it come with the red robotic eye?
- Drizzit, on 10/28/2009, -0/+10For those who are asking, Verizon did not mess with the UI. You can customize it to the way you want it. It also comes with the Amazon store built in, so you can purchase your music straight from Amazon. Not sure if that was a Android app or a verizon exclusive thing though. I just relish the fact that I can ditch my iPhone and iTunes in one pass. Hopefully a songbird connector is not far behind.
- chazuk, on 10/28/2009, -6/+15Hurry to Europe please.
- BookaShade, on 10/28/2009, -0/+8awwww has your company loyalty been smashed?
poor thing.
Verizon has over 4X more coverage then AT&T just because you're one of those yuppy idiots that will buy anything made by Apple cause it's shiny doesn't mean the rest of the world will follow. - diguptruth77, on 10/28/2009, -0/+8It has a headphone jack...god I wish my G1 had that! So simple, so brutally missing...
- LordStandley, on 10/28/2009, -1/+9Aw, that's what I'm doing wrong.
- end3rthe3rd, on 10/28/2009, -0/+7Gotta stay in the loop man. I've been around with a busted Verizon phone for a month waiting for this to come out. There have been mumer and pics released for months on forums about this Google phone.
- SpiderTeets, on 10/28/2009, -0/+7only a good marketing campaign will ensure that it overcomes the iphone
a better processor wouldnt have hurt either, but it'll do. - protogenxl, on 10/28/2009, -8/+15This is not the DROID you are looking for.
- Solkre, on 10/28/2009, -0/+6Yes.
- Tbone0n74, on 10/28/2009, -1/+7Is the guy in the video an actual Droid? There were several lifeless qualities about him that point this out.
- lantza, on 10/28/2009, -0/+6Just because something doesn't have rounded corners and hi-gloss plastic doesn't mean it can't look good.
- JumboJ3t, on 10/28/2009, -0/+6Actually pretty jealous of the features and the reliable network. This will certainly spur competition.
/iPhone owner - gluckh, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5So I can finally have a nice phone without having to deal with a bunch of C U Next Tuesdays(apple, HTC, T-mobile, ATT)???
- mustache, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5If I was worried about my kids texting me into another mortgage, I sure as hell wouldn't let them have access to iTunes and the App store. At least you can get an unlimited texting plan for 20 bucks a month. I think I spent $20 in the App store just yesterday.
- DanteDefiance, on 10/28/2009, -1/+6@Lightstab
True, but I hated the Palm Pre's hardware. The little tic-tac buttons killed it for me. - UNC81, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5HTC Droid Eris @ $99? That what you're looking for? Launching 11/6 along with the Droid.
- FredFredrickson, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5Again? This is the second time today!
- theOster, on 10/28/2009, -6/+11i say we call this one the jeebus phone.
- Jmaster5590, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4well it doesnt love you
- jcaino, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4I'm looking forward to this - should have one in my hands in the next few days!!
- SpiderTeets, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4i agree that the iphone has continued success due to its platform.
this is what other companies need to learn, to build a platform, not strictly a device.
now the droid most certainly seems competitive with/better than the iphone, but they need to build on that to make it successful in the long run.
now android is a good starting point to form a solid line of handsets but they need standards and developers to ensure longevity. - vitriolix, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4That is the Droid's ever watching eye.
- ZenFountain, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4Verizon's smart phone packages are just as outrageous, $120 / month for 900 minutes with unlimited text, $100 w/o unlimited text. As with AT&T you must buy a smart phone data package to get the phone. The coverage is way better than AT&T and Sprint but I wouldn't go running to Verizon with open arms, they all hose customers with a deluge of packages and add ons. That's where the money is these days...
- SpiderTeets, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4a) its because of iphone hacks that the 3rd party market even took off
b) it is because of the continued iphone platform that the iphone is still successful
verizon will market the S out of this phone, whereas sprint did NOT.
more marketing = more customers = more devs = more apps
and devs are the reason the iphone has 80 000 applications, so you better believe that open platform is important.
+ if you think that apps are the all leading judgement (which...you shouldnt) then you should read about this little thing google is releasing for 2.0 that will destroy the gps business. - steveo72990, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4So will this be CDMA or GSM (Quad-band)? I live in the U.S. but travel to the Netherlands every summer where I have a pay-as-you-go phone. I was going to switch to AT&T just so I could unlock and use it over there. My Verizon contract is up in february, the million dollar question; will I be able to use this overseas, on GSM networks?
- Drizzit, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4Like Vitriolix said it's a Google Phone. Other motorola phones feature their BLUR version of Android which is Moto's version of it. The "Droid" is stock Android.
It has Wifi, Bluetooth etc.. there's no "Brew" on the phone so there's no reason to lock it down. Access to the App store from Google is where you get your android apps and the other locations of android software.
Has 16Gb built in memory, can take another 16g microSD for a total of 32gb.. usb mini port.
hello go to www.droiddoes.com it's got a larger list of features.
For what it's worth, BGR is not the only person who's touched the device :) - apathy9, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Does Android have full wireless Exchange email and calendar syncing yet?
- vitriolix, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3If it says "with Google" on the back then its a stock google Android OS. Ie, the carriers cannot mess it up at all.
- TimidTurtleTodd, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Has anyone found any videos of the music player in action?
- MCGrunge1, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Gizmodo said you can preorder on the droiddoes.com website. I'm new-every-two eligible, and I can't for the life of me figure out where to preorder. Does anyone know?
