- Matthews255, on 06/22/2009, -0/+33UAV's are flown with the 360 controllers these days! Its beacuse they are easy to use and have decent pc interfacing.
- Peleus, on 06/22/2009, -0/+28Hmm, there is a Secret Achievement in there somewhere.
- hydroplane, on 06/22/2009, -0/+26Press the B button to operate the chainsaw bayonet.
- KrisStrong, on 06/22/2009, -0/+23Shall we play a game?
- DarkProd, on 06/22/2009, -0/+20R for machine guns, L for rockets?
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -2/+20Even my little brother (8) can drive that vehicle!
He kicks ass with those XBox stickers!! - HeadInJarMan, on 06/22/2009, -0/+17As long as it doesn't require precise d-pad movements they should be fine.
- s4g4n, on 06/22/2009, -1/+18World War 3 will be fought with Xbox controllers, the russians will be using the Wii mote.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 06/22/2009, -0/+17and I am 100% for it.
- Nightlurker, on 06/22/2009, -1/+15Oh great, you just started world war 3...
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -0/+14So our UAV really is online?
- DillingerSmooth, on 06/22/2009, -1/+14up up down down left right left right b a select start 30!!!
- mrdeadhead, on 06/22/2009, -0/+11it's actually probably because it's got a USB connection and plenty of drivers exist for it, it's the most easily found gamepad that can be quickly connected to a PC, and it was wired for a reason.
now if it were cool it would be bluetooth...
and the six-axis would make it do a barrel roll - raviu90, on 06/22/2009, -5/+15Your move Sony.
- icefox0724, on 06/22/2009, -1/+11If he used a mouse and keyboard he'd PwN harder.
- kentifer, on 06/22/2009, -0/+105.8 GHz does not mean a stronger signal. a higher dB means a stronger signal.
Also, did you notice how the controller was corded? It may be hooked up to a computer that connects with the vehicle through a military specific frequency. - fsufanizzle, on 06/22/2009, -1/+10Controlling the Mako in real life, yet you still control it with an Xbox 360 controller. Intriguing....
- thegamingguy, on 06/22/2009, -5/+13They are using these controllers more and more. I saw an interview where they said that M$, Nintendo, and Sony spend way more money on the research of handheld controllers and that they would use their technology rather than compete. Most soldiers pick the 360 controller over the joystick if given the choice too.
- snak3st, on 06/22/2009, -1/+9Planting claymore!
- phosphor112, on 06/22/2009, -0/+8Lmao, want to try to do those directions using that awesome D-Pad?
- zombiecarlin, on 06/22/2009, -2/+9"I will too. I mentioned its because it is an ergonomic controller with a 2.4GHz signal."
Ohhhhh, goooood for you!
So good you posted your ***** opinion 3 times! - alpha19, on 06/22/2009, -0/+7You think they are using the Xbox controller because of it's 2.4GHz wireless transceiver? Watch the video again and you'll see the cable connected to the control, which runs to the backpack of the person. That backpack will have a radio tranceiver that communicates with the onboard radio. The controllers radio has nothing to do with this.
- rhoonah, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6Or maybe it will be heralded as a truly great idea when it runs over an IED and we don't have a single US casualty.
Moron. - bigteebo, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6That and new recruits are already pre-trained in Xbox 360 controller use.
- Shuk, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6Next up is a Natal combat simulator?
- jeremymccurdy, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6Damn I feel sorry for the Russians. Especially when they screw up their waggle commands and kill friendlies.
- georgetds, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Self-Defense_Fo ...
- johnwiz, on 06/22/2009, -1/+6i want one
- jeremymccurdy, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Looks like this one has better physics though.
- 2bluesc, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Now that'd be a cool project to work on for a job!
- CalcProgrammer1, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Not really that special, for our university's robotics team we programmed a Wiimote driver (drive using Nunchuk, drive using D-pad, drive using accelerometers), an Xbox 360 driver (drive GTA4 style with triggers for throttle and joystick for turning), a generic USB joystick driver that just uses a stick, and a R/C driver for a longer-range radio control system. It's really easy to do since all of these controllers have readily-available drivers.
- utahband, on 06/22/2009, -2/+6Needs more guns...
- VitaminCrack, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Now if they made one compatible with a Wiimote, I'd be impressed.
- jeremymccurdy, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4He just won World War 3.
- s4g4n, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Iran
- georgetds, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4That would be a sight to see, some poor sap in combats waving his arms around like an idiot, being laughed at by enemy troops only to have their laughter turn to terror as they realize that the arm waving is controlling the giant mech emerging from the trees behind him.
- jeremymccurdy, on 06/22/2009, -1/+5War technology that will keep people from direct conflict and save lives.
- sjbdallas, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3Bluetooth? You mean so the guy can walk right behind the vehicle so he's always within 15 feet?
- AmazingSteve, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3Wow, I wonder who it is flying Japan's F-15's then genius.
http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2007/11/26/21 ... - CalcProgrammer1, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3It's a wired Xbox 360 controller...that will never happen unless it's connected to a laptop.
- Hardataq, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3Who gets the Virtual Boy?
- VyRuZ, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3Just let it go.
- ulcards2033, on 06/22/2009, -1/+4WTF is playstation thumb?
- iFrix, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Especially if the tank can shoot people! Because you can't really aim with a controller.
You can disagree, but you'd be wrong. - PDubNYC, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3oh STFU. seriously
- lcmatt, on 06/22/2009, -1/+3Quite a few armed forces around the world use the 360 controller to control UAV's and other vehicles. The controller is much easier to use than a mouse or joystick, plus you don't get playstation thumbs after 20 mins.
- NCocca, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2So they saved money by using an already existing controller... you're point?
- AmazingSteve, on 06/22/2009, -2/+4But what about Suxasses controllers and teh Blue-Rayz?!
- rhoonah, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2not necesarilly. Many defense contractors spend money on R&D with a hope that the government will purchase the product. I work in the defense and this is the case with a lot of companies.
